  • Here I go in to detail why I chose Spendor Audio as a brand for my demonstration room.
    They have a fantastic range of speakers with 3 different lines that will suit different listeners preferences.
    Hear my thoughts and as always I refuse to be biased or create hype.

    I love the Spendors! I can't wait for my D7.2s to arrive this week. I just ordered them from my local dealer, Audio Forum, in Berlin. I auditioned them together with a NAD M10 against similarly priced models with even pricier amplifiers and equipment from Monitor Audio, PMC, Sonus Faber, Audium, JMR Abcisse, B&W, and the Linn 140, and they played in a different league. Even my wife was so impressed that she considered paying for them, ignoring the "boring" design and lack of a high-gloss finish. The D7.2s blew us away after the first 20 seconds of playing difficult orchestral pieces from Rachmaninoff and Lou Reed. The level of detail, crisp bass, and overall smooth transition between mid and high and the clear separation of instruments, airiness and soundstage gave us goosebumps.

    I bought a Classic Sp 1\2 …yes i have found my Nirvana.
    They are so neutral, musically, the medium are really excellent and the low frequency are controlled.
    I drive them with a Rotel Michi x3 and i’am very …happy 😊

    Sir , I am so much respectfully thankful for this overview , as I have spent for two days listening Spendor , A4x D7 online . It’s a special sound they do not push for I would call a “space” scene , stage like even BW, Neat, dynaaudio doing , Snedor channels the sound as it should be as if on every channel in studio recorded with no other space echoes sounds …it’s an amazing , as if you listen every instrument in the song on every remote speaker placed as the musician got it.
    There is only question that I become stuck between A4, D7, and PMC 5.23, 5.26. Ad they are relatively aimed at the same idea of straight sound channel stream . Maybe I would still try Neat Motive SX2.
    I would like I am sure to buy one if these.
    Please , kindly help me how to better structure the test procedure to single out the right one for my ears.
    I listen to ELP, Doors, King Crimson, JCSS, Jethro Tull , Credence , Classical Music .
    I am almost sure the Spendor are just my final station of pure happiness .

    Excellent video, we need more of these brand overview videos on TH-cam. Question regarding the Classics, you mention that they would suit jazz well but I wonder what type of jazz you are refering to? It is an extremely broad genre spanning from easy listening smooth jazz to dissonant free jazz, I'd imagine it's more the former than the latter? I am an avid hard bop and modal listener and would think the D series is more suited, however it would be good to hear your opinion on this as I haven't had a chance to listen to Spendor in person yet.

    Very informative video. I'm looking at buying some Spendors. I listen to the likes of The Beatles, Bob Marley and some harder rock stuff. I enjoy vocals and currently being annoyed with sibilance with B&W. Which Spendor line would be best for me?

    • @BelieveHiFi
      @BelieveHiFi  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      hmmmm Well they all are going to be a little less upward tilted than most B&W..
      The classic does do vocal delivery very well but the A line or D line will be better for the harder rock. D line if you got the electronics to match and the A line if you have a more budget oriented setup

    Nice to see some more attention to this brand. Which of the Spendor speakers do you like the most? I would personally be very much interested in how their Classic line of speakers compares to the Harbeth speakers you have experienced earlier on in your journey and covered on your channel. In particular the P3ESR vs the Classic 4/5 and the 30.1 vs the Classic 3/2. I read the Harbeths are slightly more neutral and have a bit more resolution in the mid range, but pretty close overall. Also I understand the Harbeths are generally easier to match / less picky on the source equipment.

    • @BelieveHiFi
      @BelieveHiFi  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Umm its a tough one to be honest. I feel the Classic are more neutral and the P3ESR 40th anniversary is a closer comparison. Here its a tough call.
      The spendor is more agile and sounds MUCH larger and has more dynamic ability and punch.
      I would say the harbeths sound a bit more "magical" in the mid range and in particular with vocals.
      I will have a review of the Classic range soon not sure which speaker from the range I will review first.

      @EvenKeel the problem is my room is better suited to the size of this speaker. If I had a larger room I would go for the classic 100 for sure. Better low end, sense of scale and everything else BUT signature wise its very consistent throughout the range

  • @steverees1936

    Hi there, just discovered your channel and love it. I have been thinking about getting a pair of Spendor's for my room but not sure which model out of the D range would suit my room size. It is 16 foot by 11 foot 3" wide and I can only pull the speakers out from the wall by 60cm measuring from the front of the speaker. This is because of the furniture in my room. Listening distance is 3mtrs from the speakers. My music tastes would be hard rock, electronic, acoustic and jazz mainly, with some easy listening thrown in. I love deep punchy bass but not overblown with lovely detailed chesty mids and a sweet non harsh treble. Instead of floorstanders, would standmounts with subs be the better choice to control the bass? What's your thoughts?

    Hi, after some advice, have had a pair of A7 spendors, looking at upgrading my amplifier ( currently have a parasound halo intergrated )
    What amplifier in your experience works well with them.
    Thanks, Andrew

    • @BelieveHiFi
      @BelieveHiFi  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Andrew,
      I have particularly chosen Hegel as my amplifier pairing choice. If your budget can stretch the H390 will really be an excellent match. Otherwise Lavardin matched up VERY well (But you need an external DAC). I also liked the Devialet with my D7 but not sure if the A7 is SAM compatible.
      Overall Hegel for the price of an all-in-one offers a great partner. Plenty of guts which provide great fullness and control but also the inbuilt DAC is surprisingly very good!
      It really depends on the budget and the other equipment in the chain

      I own the Parasound Halo P6 Preamplifier. It's a good amp. I've enjoyed using it and listening to it. However, a short time ago I replaced it with a Bryston BP26 preamplifier and the difference in sound quality was staggering. As regards a power amp I currently use a vintage Carver but have set my sights on the Parasound JC 5. It's an expensive amp but phenomenal. Believe HiFi suggests the Hegel H390 integrated amp. A great sounding amp but, like the Parasound JC 5, rather expensive. There's a price to pay for anything that is good, I suppose.

    Remember hearing my first pair of S100's back in the mid 90s. Had the owner of this shop not recommended them, I probably would have just walked past. Gee, big box with 3 drivers. They are not LS3/5a's, yet have that degree of 'magic' in the midrange and now beyond that just had me sit and listen to music, not sounds as is so easy when you get too into high end. Now, flip ahead 25 years and tomorrow auditioning a pair and unless they are totally messed up, will be buying a pair of used ones. Lost everything in my divorce so slowly getting back to music. Can hardly wait for tomorrow.

Too many people knew I was getting them, so couldn't call in. Rig ht now have them elevated about 8" as the old speakers are on their dies as stands for now. Using a Marantz SR6014, so now the current the S100s want. Believe they are from 1995 as that is what the original owner said. Sent several hours listening to choir, some organ music and a tiny bit of Motorhead. Now to find a bit more current rich amp to really let them sing.

      @BelieveHiFi sproper stands do make a huge difference with classics. I'm not sure about the A and D lines. I think they use a different style of cabinet . I know that after experimenting with different kinds of supports my 3/1 stand mounts really benefitted from an open frame support the most- more bass and they seem to open up considerably.
