I don't generally comment on your videos because I watch videos like yours to get alternative views, sometimes more informed ones, and I promise this comment isn't here to shit on your video. There's no real point in leaving a comment if I don't like your take, you get that enough. It's not gonna stop me from watching this video, or the next video, etc. So why am I leaving a comment---well, two things: 1. I loved this movie for many of the reasons you disliked it, and I will likely still love this movie for many of those reasons. Since I've seen the movie, I've watched maybe 5 or 6 different channels essentially write better films, including yours, I'm not saying this is a good movie. My biggest gripe with how it goes as it was constructed is that I think both characters should have died at the end. To resurrect Wolverine for "one more movie" so you can make the film doesn't sit well with me when the little character that the story built up to was fucked over when they tried to make Wade make the sacrifice and not Logan. Nevermind the fact that they eventually pulled the "Well there's two incredible healing factors so no one dies" bullcrap. I could have said it was a necessary film if both this version of Wolverine and Deadpool died in that movie. But I'm not gonna be sad and ashamed that I did like the cameos. I would love to see a slightly better version of Channing Tatum's Gambit, because I saw enough in there that with a serious movie and more time to prep, I think he could crush it. 2. What made me wanna write this comment was how right you were about the story. I knew the story was bad...I recognized the re-hashed Logan story beats, I missed Deadpool's original cast, etc. I just didn't understand how bad the movie was. So when I say I hated your video, it was for the right reasons, because it's going to change how I enjoy this movie going forward. I really DO think you are whipping a dead horse with a video like this, but the sad truth is that you're doing it because you have to. You put RDJ as Doom showing up in a clip, and I think we both know that's a grenade waiting to go off, because they can't have RDJ as Doom in a Multiverse Saga and not have Iron Man come back so they can look at each other and be like "Huh...": Which is gonna be the "Well of course they don't give a fuck about Logan, because they're willing to destroy their own character work." Anyway. I don't like this video, but I do like your insight. Keep up the incredible work as always, and I'll do my best to see your thoughts and not my feelings when videos like this happen. It takes a lot of brass to make this video shortly after all of Deadpool and Wolverine's Success, and I hope you can keep that confidence on your videos going forward. Keep being you, :).
I don’t think it’s possible for me to disagree with you more. You hate the plot, you hate the characters, you hate the cameos, you hate the storyline, you hate the jokes, you seem to hate every second of the movie. Every point you make in this video I can instantly think of 7 reasons why you’re objectively wrong, and your morbidly verbose sentences trying to convince everyone that watches this video that they should also hate every decision this movie made is just so forced. This movie did nothing to deserve this kind of response from you people.

This criticism is fundamentally misguided because you think that this film is not self-aware and that Wade Wilson‘s entire motivation throughout the movie was to be an avenger instead of actually looking at the underlying reason as to why. He wanted to matter and he wanted to feel a sense of heroism that comes along with protecting something you love.

He didn't lose Vanessa because he was rejected as an Avenger. He was losing Vanessa and tried to fix it by becoming an avenger. Huge oversight from the video if you ask me
I don't think either of those interpretations are correct. He wanted to be an avenger and was rejected, and then due to the rejection he started settling for less and stopped fighting for things more important than himself, and it was only then that Vanessa left him, because he started not being the man that she loved.

The entire Deadpool/Wolverine movie is a meta narrative about the corporate executives not willing to give Reynolds or the Deadpool IP a chance. How he went behind their backs to make this movie happen. And how the corporate meddling and mergers kills projects before they ever get a chance. The TVA is Disney and now that Deadpool is successful they want to scrap the history of the FOX movies. The movies that paved the way for the MCU to eventually exist. And this movie is Reynolds homage to all the films before and to the actors in them. Deadpool doesn't want to abandon his "friends". There's so much movie history going on in the meta story. Wesley and Ryan's feud from the set of Blade, "I don't like you", "Well you never did". His time on that movie is what got him into Deadpool comics and wanted him to play Deadpool in the first place. And him bringing him on to the movie is there reconciliation. And a thank you for helping me get to where I am. So they have him look at the camera and say point blank to the Disney executives currently replacing Blade "there will ever only be one Blade". They took advantage of Deadpool's fourth wall breaking to tell a history of the studio drama and take some shots at their bosses. And that's so Deadpool.
Exactly. People tend to forget that. Deadpool makes fun of everything, so yeah there's going to be jokes about it. I didn't want this to just be a typical MCU movie, I wanted it to feel like a Deadpool movie, which it very much did.
exactly i don't get what hi top was saying cause the movie was great and tied the line between being the mouse and saying fuck you to the mouse and not just having wade join the mcu but rather choose to stay in his universe and ignore the mcu
Also HiTop says that Disney thinks that Fox and Sony and everyone had to sacrifice themselves in order for the mcu to exist so it diminishes their existence. But literally Deadpool saved his universe's timeline and even had the TVA (Disney) bring his friends (Fox Marvel characters) who helped him, when they died in the void. Disney understands and respects the importance all of the other studios and creators who worked on Marvel films. Hell I'm surprised that HiTop didn't acknowledge Feige as he's been a producer since X-Men 1in 2000, he's been constantly the one to fight for his directors and production staff and also the one to push for more comic book inclusion to the projects. Hell Feige even told Jackman not to come back since he thought Logan was that perfect of an ending for him.
Surprised you didn't mention Channing Tatum's Gambit as I was reading ur comment, as that's a classic example of the "corporate meddling and mergers kills projects before they ever get a chance" you mentioned.
In the comics, Wade was a fan boy, he idelized Captain Ametica and the other Avengers and didn't care about any of the X-Men accept Wolverine, that's why he does in this movie, the reason we didn't see that in previous movies was because they couldn't use Cap or the Avengers because they were owned by Disney and not Fox, also Wolverine's cowl wasn't CGI it was practical
Yeah, that’s my problem with HiTop’s take. This was in a lot of ways the most Deadpool movie, because they got to let Wade out of the bubble and just play. It was great, actually
The driving force of Deadpool and Wolverine isn't that he got rejected by the Avengers. Its that he got rejected by Vanessa. In spite DP 1 and 2 he never actually grew out of his more lighthearted and nonchalant nature that may have created a wedge between them. When it's all said and done, outside of a life or death scenario, I can imagine Wade isn't a very reliable partner when it comes to real word problems. Like say getting a job. Deadpool 1 is about saving the woman he loves. Deadpool 2 is about forgiving himself for not being able to do it a second time. Deadpool 3 is his full transformation into a superhero by challenging the idea of what a superhero is anyway. Or more accurately, challenging what corporations ideas of a superhero is. Traveling through a wasteland of forgotten IP's, most of which died due to the Disney Fox merger and mishandling of projects. Overall giving these heroes a chance to prove they are just that. Deadpool 3 is about saving the world, but more importantly cementing Wade's place. He found a family of outsiders, but in this film his job is to protect that family of outsiders. He could've stayed in the MCU universe, been known as one of them. Yet, he didn't. He went back to the Fox timeline, because just like him, Gambit, Elektra and Blade his world maybe also deserves to be a second chance. The subtext is really moving. It's a conversation about superhero movies and allowing them to embrace what they are without corporate restriction while under corporate restriction and making fun of that fact as well.
I'll be honest. The Vanessa rejection was completely, in my opinion at least, inconsequential and felt insanely selfish for her character. Wade has spent two movies either saving her or literally changing the timeline for her. And then movie 3, after so much sacrifice on his part, just shows her to have dumped him "because he wasn't reliable". The fact that Zeb Wells is on the writing team makes me 100% sure that it was his idea to have Vanessa hook up with someone else from her work and that just puts a foul taste in my mouth after how he butchered the Amazing Spider-Man. It was an unnecessary plotline that could have been substituted with Wade still trying for Vanessa, but without the unnecessary breakup. Just show that she's tired of Wade's antics and change nothing else.
Yeah, I’ve been watching way too many cynical “review channels”, and it’s been affecting my own viewpoint on entertainment as a whole in a very unhealthy way. This whole video feels like an overblown rant with too many nitpickings on the negatives and not even trying to shine the spotlight light on the positives.
100% he is blowing every critique out of the water, the movie even points out how the multiverse cameos are flawed and they need to stop but he just ignores this. Idk why he was expecting The Dark Knight level of sophisticated writing from a Deadpool movie.

That scene where Wolverine called Deadpool a complete utter joke was my favorite in the film. The film needed more of THAT. More of the HEART. It hurt, and you could tell it hurt Wade even with the mask on, but it was something he needed to hear.
Deadpool 1 and 2 both had heart which is why they work. This movie almost had it but focused on the “tried to be an avenger” thing too much. Obviously failing to be an avenger wasn’t the reason Wade and Vanessa split up. The brief scene of him not opening up to Vanessa shows the real reason, but they really should have focused more on that and not constantly bringing up the avenger thing, which doesn’t even work as a scapegoat for the reason they broke up.
It was a great scene, but I'm more partial to the one where Logan is recounting his mistakes to Laura, and when Laura finishes his thought he says "I need to say it." I choked up in the theater, I wasn't expecting a moment that felt so real and cut so deep.
@@gigaatom I disagree. That whole avengers thing ends when paradox basically tells him that he can give him what he wants at the cost of his universe. He's given the choice to be an avenger but turns it down immediately

I agree with a few things for sure, but this does seem a bit baity given its timing. Decent review overall that I mainly disagree with. For the action comedy genre, this movie is one of the all time best, if not the best, along with the original Deadpool. 8/10 final decision. Yes, I wanted a more serious and meaningful Logan appearance, but we may have that yet for a variant of Wolverine. I'm not adverse to an Old Man Logan scifi show just based on the quality of the designs from that appearance in the movie. It would have to be done with a huge budget and '97 level writing though. Just because Logan 2017 was so damn good, doesn't mean Jackman's Logans don't have anywhere to go. Hell, i'd watch his Logan in pretty much anything, but god damn I want a shameless action movie Wolverine v. Hulk after that brown and tan cameo... with the mask from 2013. That mask was perfect, and could do without the CGI eyes, and maybe just some white/red lenses that can be retracted when not in battle or broken for dramatic effect. I thought the mask looked good though, especially alongside DP's mask. I would've maybe tapered the ears though, or given them some exposition as audio enhancers or something lol. The joke did ease the transition though. The masked Wolvy wouldn't feel out of place in the MCU if the eyes were better done.

Acting like the driving force for the movie is deadpool being rejected from the Avengers is disingenuous, deadpool didn't "regress." The whole reason he tried to join the avengers was because he wanted to make vanessa proud and do something with his life, he constantly tries to help people like russel and feels connections to those like vanessa because they are similar to him or he wants to help them from becoming something like him, he has never been comfortable in his own skin even before he was scarred, this movie is him trying to finally feel some sort of strength and meaning in himself, to be someone his loved ones can be proud of, this is the whole reason for the scene where Cassandra made vanessa say "you dont f**king matter" that is a genuine fear of his because his whole life he has been a f*ck up, you can only be content with yourself being a way or a misfit for so long before you want to do something of meaning, and acting like he just accepted the mcu even tho, he directly dissed them and basically told them to f themselves when he REFUSED THE OFFER TO DEFEND HIS UNIVERSE AND LOVED ONES is crazy and just dishonest to act otherwise. I enjoyed this film for the DP & Wolverine dynamic. Both were just way too good. I was never gonna watch for the cameos but they were actually decent too. Gambit my 🐐 Also just a note: Wade is a huge Cap fan in the comics so I liked his fanboyism there.
“I fight for what’s right, and sometimes you gotta fight dirty” is the entire ethos of Captain America, he’s also hot. Of course Wade is gonna be a Cap fanboy lmao.
Deadpool being a massive fan of Captain America is literally taken straight from the comics. Iirc he was the only character Deadpool was reluctant to kill in Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe.
@johnosorno3349 that's the point bro, Steve knew the consequences, he knew he'd be branded a war criminal for defending his best friend BUT it was the right thing to do.
Sorry that you didn’t get much out of the movie. Personally I really loved this film’s passion for what came before and it’s willingness to use the MCU as an excuse to bring the fragmented history of marvel movies together in one film to send the characters out with a bang instead of focusing on what’s happening in the sacred timeline. I liked that this movie told a story about two characters full of regrets who ultimately come to understand that they have nothing to prove to anyone and that being the person you want to be is always something you can work towards. I liked that this movie mocks the industry that it’s a part of, that the villains serve as metaphors for the corporate overlords that approved this movie because they knew it would make a profit. I get the sense that Disney probably didn’t care that their names would be dragged through the mud because it would make a lot of money and yeah that’s pretty depressing but that doesn’t take away from the movie’s messages in my eyes. Yes Wolverine’s story is very similar to that of Logan’s and yes Cassandra’s story should have been more fleshed out. There’s flaws to this movie that are worth pointing out. But the movie’s sentimentality and love didn’t go unfelt for me. And it was hella fun which I feel like all of the Deadpool movies have always prioritized. This movie isn’t Logan, I didn’t expect it to be that good and I didn’t need it to be that good. Deadpool & Wolverine though is a great meta-comedy with a solid self improvement narrative. Whether the MCU as a whole can continue to improve like this movie’s protagonists has yet to be seen but this movie certainly did everything that it was trying to do quite well in my eyes. Maybe this was an overlong ramble response that nobody would read but hey I’m gonna express my thoughts regardless. TLDR: I disagree with your opinion on the movie I liked and you didn’t. Oh well.
There’s flaws to this movie that are worth pointing out. But the movies sentimentality and love didn’t go unfelt for me. Love this SO much!! Just for even the fact how much Ryan and Hugh love there characters. And I’m so glad that Channing Tatum got even the smallest of chance to be this character (that like Ryan with Deadpool, has really championed for) to finally play Gambit and see it come to life. And even if the care wasn’t given in the love letter to past MCU, it resonated very much so in a deeper way with the audience.
@@christinagardner692 I loved getting to see Gambit too. He’s one of my favorite Marvel characters ever and getting to finally see the character portrayed in a more comic loyal fashion was such a welcome surprise for me. Channing Tatum did a great job bringing the character to life. I was also really happy to see Laura return and show how she was able to grow because of Logan’s sacrifice. In general I’m just really happy that Deadpool & Wolverine gives the Fox X-Men universe a real sendoff instead of letting us awkwardly end with New Mutants.
Exactly my thoughts. The movie wasn’t perfect but fuck man I enjoyed it so much and you can feel the passion between Levy, Reynolds, and Jackman. I love this movie
11:15 I'm sorry but I absolutely do not agree with this, did he not join the Avengers out of desperation to prove himself to Vanessa? He was doing nothing in his life after the events of Deadpool 2, he was not proud of Deadpool, (in fact in the final act he says "This is the only time I've felt proud wearing this costume") and he felt like the only way to actually DO something is to join the Avengers so he can prove himself to his loved ones. When the only chance (that he thought he had) to prove himself, to fully show how much he loved his family fails, OF COURSE you would go through an existential crisis. Wade Wilson was not himself when he was selling cars and we can see that when he was staring at his costume, when he was captured by the Paradox, he felt so happy to join the MCU was because he would get another chance to join the Avengers, to prove himself, to make them, and himself proud. Plus, didn't Deadpool go out on a journey to try to fix his timeline because of his LOVE for the family he has now? Paradox were going to erase them, they wouldn't exist, Wade's meaning of life wouldn't exist anymore, hence why he tried to find a Wolverine to try to "fix" his universe's anchor being. He is even willing to sacrifice his own life because of this family, how is this anywhere close to not be driven by love? Edit: Hello Alex/HiTop, I've been watching most of your Marvel videos lately but really, in almost EVERY single one, you talk about how human they should be or they have to be, but have you ever just watch a movie for its sake rather than trying to find the human element while watching the film? - You enjoyed TASM because of how human it showed Peter Parker - You enjoyed TFATWS because of how human it showed Sam & Bucky - You didn't enjoy NWH because Peter somehow didn't show a human element, compassion and empathy to the villains - You enjoyed Deadpool 1 & 2 because of how human Wade Wilson was shown to be. So what if DP&W didn't give us enough human elements for Wade? We already had 2 movies exploring and finishing his character arc, we know that he is driven by love, and this film perfectly shows that, what if it's not trying to be entirely human anymore? I love your video essays, in fact I enjoyed your TASM video essay so much I used one of your lines in one of my assignments :P But please stop asking for more human elements when they have already given us enough.
I only agree with the final paragraph. He had a team. That found family. He saved a kid and a world while working to sacrifice himself. There very easily could have been other threats for him to deal with. Him going to the Avengers just spits in the face of those last 2 movies. Where he is going to a soulless organization to jam with people facing threats completely separate to him.
I totally see your point, my problem is that he already was WHOLE and knew what Deadpool as a hero looks like. He ended the last film with a found family where he felt at peace. This one chooses to ignore that growth he already went through. Which I get works for the meta narrative, but being depressed and feeling worthless after all the genuine growth he experienced, felt very lazy to me. I’m not saying Cable, or Russel needed to be in the movie, I’m saying that Wade at the end of DP2 had his purpose, and his family after spending that film going through an existential crisis without Vanessa. He found a reason to live (and stop, literally, trying to off himself). To undo that, felt very off, to me at least.
@@HiTopFilms Hey Alex, appreciate the reply. I agree with the point where you said he ended the last film with him finding peace with his loved ones. But what about himself? @@sparkist95 Then the film should have shown us his emptiness. The “human element” that is talked about is really getting us to care about the character’s motivations and feel for the character. It’s great that you felt that connection and care for the character, but that’s not because d&w got you to do that, it’s because you came into the movie caring about him. It’s pretty clear when you discuss the whole “well his life moves on beyond the movie so the motivation for d&w” still makes sense. In my opinion, the problem with the entire review as a whole is you have been looking way too deep into the movie's elements that was never the focus to begin with. It wasn't about the lore or the connection with past or future marvel films, it was just about the fun and chemistry of Deadpool and Wolverine. Deadpool's content has always been about nods and references and this was no different. In actuality this was a breath of fresh air in comparison to the garbage that has been fed to us for the past decade. The formula of this film was not of a Disney MCU film but of a 20th century fox film. It knew what it was and did good at doing just that and ultimately that's what matters to the audience hence why it is so successful.
That's dumb. Movies should be made to be focused on. If you treat movies like that then you're not even understanding the code idea of film. There are super hero films like that. Like Logan, the spider verses, and The dark knight. Why should this one be different? You should hold movies and yourself to a higher standard.
@tasm1827 Why should movies all have to be treated the same then? Why can't some just be fun and enjoyable summer popcorn flicks? Why do they always have to have a deeper meaning? Idk why you want to gatekeep films like that.

From every interview I’ve seen, it seems pretty clear that they were given absolute free rein on everything except active drug use. It’s not impossible to believe that these awesome comedians actually enjoy celebrating Marvel comics and all its adaptations.
From what I"ve heard, it was mostly Ryan Reynolds. Deadpool 3 was dead the moment Disney bought Fox. There was no way Iger and Feige were going to allow an R rated Marvel movie. It wasn"t until Bob Chapeck became CEO. Then Ryan pitched the movie to him. Chapeck was the one responsible for greenlight the movie. Not Iger. Feige tried to talk Hugh out of making the film. Iger and Feige didn"t want the movie to be made.
I believe it. Hugh is such a presence, that it could effect plans for the X-Men, but given Disney utter fumbling of pretty much everything since 2017 (and much much before that tbh) it's a good thing. Anything that throws a wrench in Disney's plan and allows an organic bit of artistry, good or bad, is much better to me. If Deadpool and Wolverine was allowed to be what we all wanted it to be then the movie would've had a $700M budget. It delivered 100% as a great action comedy. The only criticism I agree with is not getting more X-Men variants as they would've had a huge impact compared to Elektra and Gambit, though I enjoyed those as well. It's hard though given the age of the actors and the business side. I think Levy, Jackman and Reynolds did very well all things considered. It's a Deadpool movie, not the Sistine Chapel.
I've also read that the film would never have been made without Hugh Jackman. Both Reynolds and Levy were really struggling to come up with a good enough concept and were ready to shelf it until Jackman gave them the call saying he wanted to return. I understand what Alex is saying with the constant cameos sort of ruining the immersion, but what separates these cameos from the likes of The Flash or Doctor Strange: MoM is that they all came from a place of love and appreciation for what came before it as opposed to an exec's idea of what'll get the most applause. Hell, they even let Channing Tatum finally play Gambit after over a decade of development hell amounting to nothing up to this point!
@@drlca6601 agreed. I would've loved to see James Marsden back so he could actually do something. Since, they gave him nothing to do in those movies. I would've loved to see David Hasselhoff as Nick Fury. Yep, that tv pilot was made by Fox. It would've been cool to see him. Not sure why they got Henry Cavil to play a Wolverine variant. To me, that's as pointless as John Krasinski as Mr. Fantastic in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Because he was not going to play him moving forward. They got Pedro Pascal. I think the same will be for Henry. I could be wrong. If they wanted Wolverine variants, they could've gotten Russell Crowe and Dougray Scott. That would've made more sense. Russell was offered the role. He was the one that recomended Hugh. And we know Dougray was originally cast as Wolverine. Taylor Kitsch would've made more sense as Gambit. Is like Nick Cage in The Flash. It makes sense only to the people that know the story. And not sure why Wesley Snipes is in it. Those weren't Fox movies. Those were made by New Line. Don't get me wrong, I love those movies. I love Wesley Snipes. I was happy to see him back. But not sure why he was in it. Ben Affleck would've made more sense. Maybe he said no.
Always remember that hugh jackman called marvel to come back not the other way around because he wanted to have fun with his best friends and he thought they could create the same magic other buddy cop movies had like 48 hours and lethal weapon hell even Kevin feige didn’t want hugh to come back because he didn’t want to ruin his ending in Logan

I have to note that at 12:57 he says “we love Captain America so Wade must as well” and, while I understand this wasn’t the point of his argument, Wade canonically is a super fan of Cap in the comics and other media. It’s an understated but touching part of his character.
It’s funny because people say it’s not what guys like HiTop are reviewing it for, but I bet if it happened to have a much better story with fewer plot holes and better pacing everyone would be PRAISING it for such. Not saying, “That’s kind of weird for a film like this to focus on that.” It’s double speak. You choose one when it’s convenient.
@@midnighthymnthat’s not accurate at all, when you go into a heartfelt action comedy expecting Shawshank redemption you are going to be disappointed It has nothing to do with “what’s convenient”
Not expecting a million plot holes, bad pacing, rushed scenes and lackluster villain does not equate to expecting a Shawshank Redemption level movie. This is what I’m talking about. We are lowering the quality of movies overtime by expecting less and less with each outing. Supply and demand.
@@midnighthymn a billion plot holes is an exaggeration Bad pacing? Subjective Rushed scenes? Subjective Lacklustre villain? She’s fine, she did her role and was decently threatening You guys keep pretending as if you are asking for the bare minimum but the films immense popularity implies it was funny, action packed and heartfelt If you are asking for too much from a MCU movie then you’ll be criticised for it, and demanding too much is one of the reasons why the MCU is where it is now We wanted more cameos!!more action!!! More and more, and we’ve seen the result of that.
I really enjoy your videos and I can't wait to see Jason but I disagree with some of the points you are saying and the fact that the multiverse killed this movie. This felt like a love letter to FOX and it was fricken hilarious with some heart to it. Especially with the sacrifice scene with the Madonna music sounding very emotional like it was a very moving scene. It's not great though because it has issues with the writing and the villain was weak as hell but I feel like nothing was disrespected and it was a really good movie. Great video though
So basically u liked a couple scnes and the music. Not a rewatchable film. A film needs to create it's own moments not be an accolade to past projects.
@@Luke101 ? So because im saying the film is fundamentally flawed (lacks an interesting plot and character motivation) which makes it less rewatcable im saying u shoudlnt watch it. huh? U can't just put your favourite characters in a suit and call it a day. The tone, context, and actual character motivation makes these characters who they are. I just can't see how on a third onwards rewatch u could get anything out of it. An omage and a loose narrative is'nt going to give anything real after the excitment wears off. Also the movie is lowkey bland and dull, it's not visually creative at all, and the action is limited and uncreative. If a movie is going to be a 'turn your brain off' it should atleast stick to it.
He said Deadpool plays by his owns rule and takes care of the people around him, which is what he did in Deadpool 3 he went to another universe without authorization to find another wolverine to save his family, like wtf do you mean it’s not the same
I dont get why people act like we've had a thousand multiverse movie in the last few years. Since Endgame, Marvel has released 11 movies. Only 3 of those have had anything to do with the multiverse, including Deadpool and Wolverine. And those multiverse movies have been the best if the bunch. With Spiderman NWH becoming the highest grossing non avengers mcu film, and D&W on its way to become to become the highest grosiung R rated film.
Thank youuuuuuuuuu. Even the shows that do Multiverse shenanigans are usually praised like Loki and What If. Actually, those are the ONLY 2 shows that feature the Multiverse. What else? Spiderverse? Do people not like those movies? I think they're using the Multiverse as a catch-all, "I'm tired of watching Marvel movies in general" phrase.
Because it’s popping up in more than just Marvel projects, and is used in very uninteresting ways most of the time(not in everything, but it’s everywhere). To some people, it’s getting old to see the concept as a possible cop out to bad ideas, killing a sense of stakes or danger, and nostalgia baiting.
NWH handled multiverse by making cameos as part of stories. Only MOM was bad bcoz they focused less on crazy side of multiverse. Loki was great. What If had great episodes too
bro it's not about the quantity of multiverse projects, it's really about the quality. MCU and even the (dead) DCEU TRIED TO GO MULTIVERSAL and they ARE SO BAD. Now, take a deep breath and remember, we're going to have more movies like that, because it's phase 5,6? Hell no I don't want to see all that, if they just have the same boring shit
I like the anamorphic look and the scene where Logan roasts Wayde, everything else feels like a random movie I’d play in the background while getting my Bully Maguire on with my boyfriend.
Damn dude, that's the exact same thing I thought when Levy was announced! "That's the safest pick for a director ever" Anyways, was intrigued to see your video since I saw your review on Letterboxd because I agree with a lot of the points you make! And hope you're doing well Alex!
Deadpool wanting to join a superteam to prove himself, partnering up with a grumpy hero and ultimately clumsily did some good are THE quintessential Deadpool story beats. This film feels like a Deadpool comic comes to life and it's amazing. It is truly written by someone who loves Deadpool, I loved it.
Ik it’s not relevant since it’s a Deadpool and Wolverine movie, but it would’ve been nice to see “Failure” Wolverine and Deadpool’s Colossus interact. It could be a good emotional scene. Seeing a fellow X-men consolidating Logan with his usual yapping, talking about his comic accurate suit, and stuff
I liked this movie but he’s 100% correct. This movie has no plot and barely meets the criteria for characters it’s just an excuse for jokes and action scenes But the jokes and action were fantastic so who cares. I had a great time Definitely would have preferred actual plot and characters but it did what it needed to
i don’t understand the hate for this video man - i don’t agree with everything in this video but another persons opinion is not a personal attack on me and my enjoyment of the movie. call me crazy 🤷♂️

That metaphor is beautiful.
First time I ACTUALLY disagree with HiTop Films I thought this film had a lot of heart, and didn’t ram the multiverse done our throats it was perfectly paced out

I think there’s a wedge between film fans, and comic book fans. As a comic book fan, I absolutely adored this movie. Finally seeing Hugh Jackman as the Wolverine that I’ve always read and dreamt about was more than enough to make this one of my favorite MCU films. The homages to classic X-Men covers, to that beautiful mask, comic book fans finally got to see the real Wolverine in live-action for the very first time. Not even just him, but Gambit as well! We got to see a true adaptation of Gambit! The comedic lines were a bit out of character, but Channing’s passion and execution was great none the less! Now, I apologize that movie did not live up to the standard you prefer in film making. There is a serious trade off with film quality for comic book accuracy. However, I personally prefer this trade off. (For this movie in particular) If you’re getting Marvel money, you gotta make Marvel moves! I think Deadpool & Wolverine delivers that in spades.
I think too many people were going in expecting marvel Schindler's list or something, and forgot all about it being originally from comic books. They forget that Deadpool is comedic, and I guess people were expecting a very serious movie I got everything I was expecting out of it and then it was very much something you could have read in a comic book/graphic novel. It had action, metaphors, humor.
There's a point in the comics where wolverine regenerates from a single drop of blood. There was nothing even close to that level of creativity. It was disappointing as a comic book fan and a film fan. Just slop around
In a deadpool movie….. deadpool was the worst character in it. He literally annoyed me. Without jackman there would NO emotion (and there are already just a very few)
The way I saw the movie was Disney giving the Fox era a proper send off, basically was a memorial service for Fox. Thats why the cameos were there, it was a sign of respect.
No, it was using the properties we've all known and liked to attract us to the theater. Otherwise it would be the exact same movie as the last 2, there's virtually no plot
This has got to be one of the most cynical reviews for this movie I’ve seen, while I thought it was better than 2 but not as good as 1 I do think it largely stands on its own and only references the MCU when it needs to, I mean jeez you literally showed the reveal of RDJ as Doctor Doom yet didn’t reference it at all in your script and that’s the problem I have with you Alex is that you critique elements of a film without understanding HOW and WHY they were implemented in the first place, also the whole thing of legacy characters saying their catchphrase is literally the point it’s called a callback reference but of course your cynical thinking makes you think it’s ‘creatively bankrupt’, usually I agree with the majority of your perspectives such as your opinion on Homecoming and Far From Home but with this film nah I completely disagree with you on it
Not only that, but he also decided to praise a movie that did the same thing as this movie because it's his favorite movie (Raimi spidey trilogy) Deadpool and wolverine elaborated on the message of the second one (spiderman 2 did the same thing)
I wasn't in favor of them bringing Jackman's Wolverine back after "Logan" either, and they definitely should have gotten more out of his character. But for the Deadpool series, his appearance makes some sense, considering Deadpool has been obsessed with him since the first movie.
What more could they have gotten out of his character? Y’all say shit like this but never actually have any points to make. Just open ended criticism for criticism’s sake.
@@MrMgkman13 I didn't write a movie review, just my opinion. They say it's the worst Wolverine of all but never explain it. It's just our Logan with a slightly different backstory but they don't have a single idea that adds anything to the character. It's nostalgia bait nothing more.
They didn't even bring him in Feige even told him not to come back. Jackman was the one who was like no, I want this, and he also wanted to wear the suit(s).
@SuperJumper40 they explain it as him getting gassed and the x men being killed afterwards he began killing bad and good guys turning the world against the x men and mutants more so than the ones already killing them.
I couldn't disagree more. This was full of heart, respect for everyone, every film and character that brought us here. Wade also jokes that Johnny was killing the budget so another reason he was gone almost as quickly as Sabertooth. I think you get it but I wish you could feel it too.
I love you but same guy who defended multiverse of madness just because Sam Raimi made it. Pretty much all of your criticisms of Deadpool apply to that as well. If not even more. Multiverse of madness was a hollow piece of garbage.
I felt like something was off during the entire movie and everyone else on the planet is telling me that I can't expect more from these movies. Not just superhero movies, but any movie whatsoever and it makes me mad that so many people are so used to heartless empty movies that when they see some real passion and emotion they call it "Cringe". In the digital age, everything is an algorithm jumping on trends instead of a human telling a story. It makes me sad, it makes me lonely, and it's why I just write my own stories that few people will ever see or relate to, because if I put it in someone else's hands it'll become a game of telephone, where the end product is so bastardized from it's intention that the agreed upon narrative is the antithesis of my idea.
My biggest gripe is that DP3 undoes DP2. He literally saves a kid that she told him to save via a vision from beyond and then time travels to save her while becoming the man she knew he could become… And then we begin DP3 with her dumping him again… For the same reason?? I literally sat there in the theater and thought, “Wait, after all this time and the joking promos about not knowing what to write, they decided to just redo DP2?? How fucking lazy are they???” And then they didn’t really even do it any better.
@@MrMgkman13It’s only a good mindset to have if you’re the ones making the movies cause that fills your pockets. Not such a good mindset for the consumers who put money into it and have to subjugate themselves to mediocre or average content.

At what point does cameos stop being cameos and start being supportive roles? We’ve always classified cameos as a short or so fast if you’ll blink you’ll miss it type of thing. They aren’t cameos anymore if they play a significant role for the film. Cameos are short and their roles weren’t.
Ngl this mf gives me a f!cking migraine every time he makes a comic book movie review. Always the same sh!t about not being “human” or “emotional”. Like bro not every f!cking comic book movie needs to be a soap opera or dramatic masterpiece to be watchable or fun to experience. Sometimes people don’t wanna go to a theater and watch superheroes to criticize why they don’t have an arc or a storyline that’s worthy of being praised for its “emotional depth”. The worst part about all this is that the movie was marketed and clearly presented as a comedy duo movie about Deadpool traveling the multiverse with Logan. And yet, bro went out of his way to make an entire 34 minute video about why it should’ve been something it wasn’t even trying to be. I’m in the same boat. His videos have become grating, & his cynicism is overkill. There is a time and a place to critique the current Hollywood system, and it comes down to using a film that represents that argument sufficiently. IMO Deadpool & Wolverine is a silver lining for the Marvel franchise for the current moment
DP 1 and 2 were so good I knew the third one wouldn't be able to compate, but I have no idea how they could fuck this movie up so badly Having rewatched it a second time made it so much worse

I used to watch you all the time dude, but this is not it. Deadpool is a fanboy of the Avengers in the movie because Deadpool is a fanboy of the Avengers in the comics. Deadpool LOVES Captain America, Cap was Wades childhood hero, since long before he was ever Deadpool.
@@flackjacket3dits yeah, I like the comics. Not just the Deadpool ones, but Marvel in general. The film was bad TO YOU. The person who thinks Shazam is "The Perfect DC Film" (made by the same studio that did it in way worse direction) talks about how Deadpool and Wolverine are bad and have nothing behind them (although it is especially noticeable in the last scenes) bad because "superhero movies were better before". Go and rewatch those movies that hooked you so much in the past that's ok, we are very happy for you, but what is the point of this video? So that people can once again see how bad everything is now and that's it? Yes, everyone knows perfectly well what state the MCU and Hollywood is in now, but this movie clearly doesn't deserve the kind of arguments you give in the video. Your arguments are just your trauma about what you experienced in the movie and you want it to change, but this video won't change that. You paid money for it anyway.
The Avengers rejection was literally just a cute aside moment. It literally had nothing to do with Wade’s relationship with Vanessa. The flashback clearly implies that Wade is too busy being Deadpool and he isn’t in her life as much as he should. Perhaps they want to start a family and yes I do wish that was explored more, but the rejection from the avengers is not what that drives that story. Wade hangs up the costume because he wants to properly settle down with her, it’s about the most human conflict a superhero could have and yet Alex fools himself into thinking that The Avengers rejection has everything to do with it? Why? He’s literally pursuing a job because he wants to be stable and not out on superhero adventures all the time. It’s literally the perfect progression from Deadpool 2, he saw how Being a superhero could hurt Vanessa in that movie, she literally died. So why wouldn’t it make sense that he’s now trying to hang up the costume and living a calmer life? How do you misunderstand the point of a conflict this much?
I'm just going to recommend the Deadpool/Spider-Man series where Wade has to kill Peter Parker but his respect and love for Spider-Man stops him. He doesn't know they are the same person.
24:05 couldn't agree more, they did Johnny Storm so dirty in this movie. And it makes deadpool kinda unlikeable for getting Johnny killed (i don't care what people say, it's still DP's fault despite johnny saying "you can quote me") and getting Nicepool killed and then taking his guns and dog.
It’s a version of the character that’s never been beloved, that has no plans to ever be used again. The only reason anyone talks about those F4 movies anymore is because one of the actors went on to be an actually successful Super Hero so now people think that’s just hilarious for some reason.
@@jamesduffy7549 Deadpool never behaved that way in the first two movies. He only killed evil people and genuinely cared about saving innocents. Yes there was the X-Force incident in the second movie, but at least their deaths were the results of genuine accidents and Deapool was rooting for them to succeed. In D&W in genuinely felt like he was trying to get Johnny and Nicepool killed for the sake of it and that wasn't cool.
@marcusholder6508 exactly, and while his methods may have been morally grey like hunting Francis and killing loads of people it wasn't random evil it was him doing what he believed to be necessary. Getting Johnny killed for no reason and murdering nicepool for his guns is just evil, which anti hero's aren't, or atleast don't belive they are/could make an argument they are not

It's more, some people are okay with watching a movie and laughing along and sticking along with the action and forgetting about it in three days, and that's okay. But people looking for more than that in a franchise that, in its past two movies, offered much more than that, can also express their disappointment with this movie not meeting expectations.
Wade has always been an avengers AND an X-men reject. if you ever understood his character, nobody wants wade around because his nature hurts every relationship close to him, and he's always searching for that love.

Hi Alex, I wanted to start by expressing my sympathy for the amount of hate and rage you’ve received. I agree with many of the points you’ve made. Additionally, I wanted to highlight that, despite Shawn Levy and Ryan giving this movie a different tone and rhythm, I think it was well executed. For me, Logan remains one of my favorite movies ever, and it didn't ruin anything for me. That movie stands strong on its own. People shouldn’t feel obligated to see Deadpool and Wolverine and expect a direct sequel to that storyline. I did have a few criticisms, such as how they used Vanessa and the original crew, and I found the reasoning behind Wade’s sudden depression after trying to join the Avengers a bit off-character. However, I still enjoyed the movie a lot. In my opinion, Shawn deserves recognition for managing to balance so many elements with an excellent pace and tone. Yes, the film has flaws and could have maintained the tone and ideas of the previous movies, but ultimately, I view this R-rated series as a saga that offers different tones and interpretations of what Deadpool can be.
oh thank god for this review- it really feels like only you and schafrillas had any grasp on the movie that was similar to mine. its honestly baffling when i see people say that 'well deadpool movies are just about the silly meta jokes and deadpool being deadpool!' as if the first two films didnt have a strong emotonal core and supporting characters. like...did you all just forget? were you...not enjoying the films because of the story they were telling? that was just us three? okay.
I completely agree with you. I feel like this movie lacked a lot of the sincerity and the heart the previous two Deadpool films had. I also found it very weird that Laura was chilling with a wolverine that isn't her dad at the end of the film.
I feel like with every Marvel movie that comes out I get depressed because of the soullessness and corporate greed you can feel behind it and then I see nothing but people loving it because it's "fun". The issue is it's a funny movie with like barely any depth in any of its characters, unless, y'know, you watched the dozens of movies that came before it. There's no reason to care about anyone or anything that's happening because the movie doesn't really give me any reason to. Isn't that kind of the entire point of watching movie?
You put RDJ as Doom showing up in a clip, and I think we both know that's a grenade waiting to go off, because they can't have RDJ as Doom in a Multiverse Saga and not have Iron Man come back so they can look at each other and be like "Huh...": Which is gonna be the "Well of course they don't give a fuck about Logan, because they're willing to destroy their own character work."
Anyway.
There's so much movie
history going on in the meta
story. Wesley and Ryan's feud from the set of Blade, "I don't like you", "Well you never did".
His time on that movie is what got him into Deadpool comics and wanted him to play
Deadpool in the first place. And him bringing him on to the movie is there
reconciliation. And a thank you for helping me get to where I am.
So they have him look at the camera and say point blank to the Disney executives
currently replacing Blade "there will ever only be one Blade".
They took advantage of
Deadpool's fourth wall
breaking to tell a history of the studio drama and take some shots at their bosses.
And that's so Deadpool.
Exactly. People tend to forget that.
Deadpool makes fun of everything, so yeah there's going to be jokes about it.
I didn't want this to just be a typical MCU movie, I wanted it to feel like a Deadpool movie, which it very much did.
Precisely this, i also left a similar comment on that vein but You explained it better than i did
exactly i don't get what hi top was saying cause the movie was great and tied the line between being the mouse and saying fuck you to the mouse and not just having wade join the mcu but rather choose to stay in his universe and ignore the mcu

We got the "Captain... Deadpool" line on the first one, that was pretty clever to not outright mention it.
Yes. He should do his research before making videos. LOL.
actually wade always wanted to be an x-man too.
Yeah, that’s my problem with HiTop’s take. This was in a lot of ways the most Deadpool movie, because they got to let Wade out of the bubble and just play. It was great, actually
Is it fine to contradict and shit on the previous films to make that happen?
It's a conversation about superhero movies and allowing them to embrace what they are without corporate restriction while under corporate restriction and making fun of that fact as well.
i couldn’t have put it better myself
This is the most coherent and accurate rebuttal I’ve seen to HiTop’s video. Hope he sees this as well because I agree with you completely.
Not gunna read that, make a video

- You enjoyed TASM because of how human it showed Peter Parker
- You enjoyed TFATWS because of how human it showed Sam & Bucky
- You didn't enjoy NWH because Peter somehow didn't show a human element, compassion and empathy to the villains
- You enjoyed Deadpool 1 & 2 because of how human Wade Wilson was shown to be.
So what if DP&W didn't give us enough human elements for Wade? We already had 2 movies exploring and finishing his character arc, we know that he is driven by love, and this film perfectly shows that, what if it's not trying to be entirely human anymore? It's like putting an egg on a frying pan but complaining that it doesn't taste like a carrot. I love your video essays, in fact I enjoyed your TASM video essay so much I used one of your lines in one of my assignments :P
But please stop asking for more human elements when they have already given us enough.

I don't think the relationship would just be "they live happily ever after, Vanessa and Wade gets married, and Wade continues being deadpool" After finding peace with his loved ones, "Deadpool", a persona he created because of love, have no need to exist anymore. But what about Wade Wilson? He still exists and he will exist for a long time, and with his set of abilities, mainly being annoying with a mouth and being a merc, it doesn't really help with him trying to settle for a civilian life, does it? On the outside, he is really just an annoying person with a completely scarred face, even the X-Men wouldn't accept him as a part of their team. Peter got him into selling cars, we can see that Wade is not proud of that, but does he have a choice? I don't think his character arc regressed, but it is a matter of his own personality and who he is that got him into this corner.

That’s not really shown in the movie, we just see Deadpool being a car salesperson and saying that there was no reason to continue. It’s disconcerting to someone who isn’t trying to extrapolate from movies, just watching them for what they are.
It was a pretty great comedy, but they could've done more with the story
And better with the villain like the villain was really weak in terms of writing and motivations
@@CometStar100Imo I like the villain in this movie idk why but second viewing she one of my favs in this franchise but that just me.
Why do people judge movies like they’re all supposed to be the Shawshank redemption? Not every movie needs to be a slow story teller. Some are just popcorn movies, you go in and have a good time. Stop acting like any old blocker buster movies are amazing stories. Movies are supposed to be fun.

@@FutbolPicks Wanting an actual plot and decent writing isn't asking for academy awards. Glad you enjoyed two hours of fan service and cameos, some, including me, wanted more.

Films that actually leave a lasting impression after you leave the theater.
Kevin Feige didn’t have any hands over this film. This film was in hands with Ryan, Shawn, and the writers. In case you were going in this route.
Feige had as much of a hand put in this movie as og X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner, so there's that.

That's true. People have no idea for how long she's been around.
From every interview I’ve seen, it seems pretty clear that they were given absolute free rein on everything except active drug use. It’s not impossible to believe that these awesome comedians actually enjoy celebrating Marvel comics and all its adaptations.
Feige was totally in charge of this film and had to greenlight everything in it, this idea that Ryan Reynolds could defy Feige and Disney is moronic
That's what the Mouse wants people to think
Where did you hear that?

Name of series? I'd like to read it
@@ekwensu8797 Spider-Man/Deadpool
I feel like this channel has just become "bad move le good and good movie le bad" I still love you tho
People will read this and be like but mmm akshylually hes an anti hero so 🤓🤓🤓
As if doing random acts of pointless evil is a well written anti hero
Agree he should’ve been in the movie longer he’s definitely more beloved than Elektra
@marcusholder6508 exactly, and while his methods may have been morally grey like hunting Francis and killing loads of people it wasn't random evil it was him doing what he believed to be necessary. Getting Johnny killed for no reason and murdering nicepool for his guns is just evil, which anti hero's aren't, or atleast don't belive they are/could make an argument they are not
Incredibly spot on. Hope you're doing well!
There was three different fight scenes where no one in the scene could die. I just was sitting there thinking, "What are the stakes here? Why should I care about this?"
Welcome to superhero mocies, no stakes is a comm9n occurance here
great video. The fact that people are labeling this movie a 'love letter' makes me wonder if they value the mere presence of a character more than the way they're written
they have since infinity war
I enjoyed this movie but I feel it’s gonna age horribly. Felt like No Way home. It was a great theater experience with a ton of people.
And that is the key. A short term high from junk food vs long term satisfaction from a balanced meal. A film like Logan is an example of the latter.
@@midnighthymnmovies dont need to be crammed into a box of what they SHOULD be. This movie was exactly what it was supposed to be. It’s a buddy Deadpool/Wolverine movie and that’s exactly what we got
Like spiderverse too
@@Luke101 Your point is hypocritical; you're saying "only *I* can say what movies should be!" Of course, this might not be the point you're intending to make, but it's what you've written.
Some of us think movies should actually be art pieces that have an interesting story and don't exist to just put butts in seats and make a load of money in the box office by being as safe as possible.
I could follow that statement up with And other people are braindead", but that's a cynical take that doesn't add anything to the conversation. It's more, some people are okay with watching a movie and laughing along and sticking along with the action and forgetting about it in three days, and that's okay. But people looking for more than that in a franchise that, in its past two movies, offered much more than that, can also express their disappointment with this movie not meeting expectations.
There’s nothing wrong with that though.
Wade has always been an avengers AND an X-men reject. if you ever understood his character, nobody wants wade around because his nature hurts every relationship close to him, and he's always searching for that love.
I only like the scene where the TVA knock on Wades door, hes throwing jokes and being sexual but hes literally saying "yall are gonna die", its really intimidating and we need more of that kind of wade and less "im a 40 year old 12 year old" wade
Hit me like a truck, excellent work as always man.
It was a fun, nostalgia trip, but that's about it. The fact that this might be the only semblance of a follow-up for Laura, after Logan's ending, is a crime though; and it's not worth it.
There was never going to be a follow up to Laura’s story. At least here you see her again and she gets a happier ending.
@@MrMgkman13 why do I care about a happy ending when it feels like fan-fic that isn't worthy of the character or story?
And to say there was never going to be a sequel to a beloved franchise... You clearly haven't been paying attention. Haha
@@Keyatzin get over yourself lmao. She gives plenty of emotional weight to the film. Says she got to grow up because of what Logan did for her. And she gets to be reunited with a similar version of him. The movie leaves it open ended for them to return and everyone loves Dafne. I almost guarantee we’ll see her back as Laura in a major way
@@Luke101 how about all the rest of the kids? Her entire family that she grew up with...? They are forgotten for the convenience of the meta narrative. Why did Laura even get pruned from their timeline, to end up in the Fox-CU void? No one knows.
The Logan that fought and died for her is gone, so here's a replacement..? Lol. If that's an acceptable level of narrative and payoff for you, more power to you. Enjoy the future of movies continuing the trend of nostalgia bait, meaningless cameos, and constantly winking at the audience. This ain't nothing more than content.
I don’t understand the ppl that keep saying “DP&W has an awful story”.
Like if there is one character where the story shouldn’t matter, it’s Deadpool lmao.
We aren’t going exactly for the great story, we are going for the action and comedy.
And THAT delivered in my opinion.

I disagree with your video if im being honest. I disagreed with your No Way Home video too. But i respect your opinion. Try to next time have a balance between the bad u talk about and the good u talk about. You didnt talk much about Tom Holland and William Dafoe's amazing acting scenes for No Way Home. Thats what i feel is missing from your reviews. They feel more like a rant when they shouid be balanced. But then again its your opinion.
With him on this one. Had no idea what anyone was talking about in this being so good and heartfelt. It’s the most smoggy corporate dog shit I’ve seen in a while. I was so excited for this one, but holy hell man. Saying it’s bad is a complete understatement.
You should probably never buy a movie ticket to a superhero ever again. What you felt when watching the raimi trilogies can’t be replicated. Just watch the oldies again

Hi Alex,
I wanted to start by expressing my sympathy for the amount of hate and rage you’ve received.
Yes, the film has flaws and could have maintained the tone and ideas of the previous movies, but ultimately, I view this R-rated series as a saga that offers different tones and interpretations of what Deadpool can be.
oh thank god for this review- it really feels like only you and schafrillas had any grasp on the movie that was similar to mine. its honestly baffling when i see people say that 'well deadpool movies are just about the silly meta jokes and deadpool being deadpool!' as if the first two films didnt have a strong emotonal core and supporting characters. like...did you all just forget? were you...not enjoying the films because of the story they were telling? that was just us three? okay.
Then afterwards go check out Collin's response to this review
The first two deadpool movies felt like a comedy about super heroes, the recent one feels like a superhero film trying to be funny
"Just shut your brain off", "what did you expect, The Dark Knight?". But then I see Hitop explain perfectly why I felt the way I did or rather the way I didn't feel anything while watching it. And ofcourse, people respond to the video of a guy's opinion on a movie with hate and anger.
Don't ask questions, just consume product and then get excited for next product
Maybe people like things that you don't?
@@liamtolias8138 of course people can like what they like my frustration lies in Alex getting dislikes and hate for having a different opinion and making good points imo.
@@viceng7153 100% agree. This video pretty much perfectly sums up my thoughts about the movie. I don't understand the whole argument about how there's nothing wrong with just making a funny movie and how it doesn't need to be a soap opera. That's not the issue here. To care about the characters and the plot surrounding it? Without that you're just left with jokes and nostalgia. It's no longer a movie at that point it's just a slideshow.
