Definitely this was amazing to watch!!!! He brought his vhs 📼 copy of under the table and drumming!!!!!😂😂🔥 I’ve watched that video many times as well wishing I could get my hihat syncopation to sound 1/10th as good as the man himself. I’m not a big fan of Dave Matthews band music, but Carters drumming is something I respect highly
Loved the vid. So cool Carter was talking about the guys that inspired me early on too. Watching Buddy Rich on Johnny Carson as a kid, banging on moms pots and pans to seeing George Duke and Return to Forever live in NJ, blow me away in the 70’s. He didn’t mention Mr. Cobham tho...?
Ran into Carter on the road a couple of weeks ago; immediately recognized him in a lobby as he was walking out. I thought I’d missed my chance to say hi, then 3 minutes later he was walking back towards me I said “ Hey Cater Man!” He wheels around, almost taken aback that a fan recognized him. He was so gracious and warm and gave me a few minutes to talk about shows I’d been to and how I’d started listening when i was drumming at like 12 years old. Easily my favorite and most iconic musician and I’m so thankful for the chance to visit with him and that he was so generous with a fan.
The thing about Carter, he doesn't try to mindlessly be the "fastest" or "most technical". He compliments the music. He is fast, and incredibly technical. But he is most importantly MUSICAL.
As a straight up fanboy, I could not IMAGINE what went through your head that morning when you woke up like...‘Holy s#%t. I’m about to interview Carter Beauford today’ 😐 We should all have the experience one day of nerding out in front of our heroes, man. Cool stuff! 🏆
Now we just Carter to stop by the drumeo studio and jam a bit. Maybe even throw the dude himself in there as a surprise to him and continue this epic conversation

Carter is an incredible musician, and I guess that everyone that came to this video knows it. What I wish to highlight is that a great interview depends a lot on the interviewer and his/her knowledge on the interviewee. And you nailed it Harry Miree. Well done.
I love revisiting this video every few weeks. Still incredibly happy Harry got to do this - the insight Carter provides here is amazing. Carter's got that happy energy that many of the best drummers from the modern era have - Hawkings, Fishman, etc.
The sheer joy on your face, getting to hang with your idol, and shoot the shit with him is only matched by how humble he is and how much he truly appreciates the kind words you pass on. THIS, is what it's about. Thanks for the vid!
Yes, is surreal hearing Carter talking about other people with such reverence... If one didn't know who he is or what he had achieved, one would think he is a random drummer of the bunch, from an unknown band. The guy is always smiling and it comes naturally to him. Is a joy just to watch him talking or drumming because of his personality.
I've never been more than a passing admirer of Carter, and I've always loved his playing in the context of DMB; but DUDE his joyous energy is so infectious. I spent the whole 14 minute interview grinning ear to ear. Watching you two cats just go back and forth, seeing you in awe of your greatest hero, it was just awesome dude. I hope many blessings follow you in your drumming career.
He has the most beautiful happy energy that would make anyone smile..even if he wasn't a drummer..but thank God he is and we get to listen to his talent
I graduated in 2019 with a degree in percussion performance because of a video of Carter Beauford someone showed me as a 6th grader that inspired me to try to be as expressive as he was on the instrument. I just got done with my first semester of graduate school and my aspirations are to get a doctoral degree in music before the end of this next decade. Thanks for the sick interview Harry. #gnarlybanner
Wow. I am always blown away by Carter anytime I see an interview. Not only is he one of the greatest drummers to ever play but this guy is a great human being. Thank you Carter!
#dude. I’m 65 years old and a big Carter (and Harry) fan! I still practice and I’m always trying to break down Carter licks. Loved this interview! #gnarlybanner.
loo nacy it’s because of their fan base. I’m a huge fan and have been for 25 years. Around 99/2000 their shows became saturated with 16 year old alcoholics who were wasted before showtime.
Most people that don't like Dave are the people who have never seen a show or taken the time to listen. My first show was in Antioch '01 when I was 17. I thought that Dave was a goofball and the only reason I went was bc I wanted to go on a road trip with my friends. The atmosphere at the show was electric, the people were cool, and the air smelled really good. I've been to 50 shows since then and have even took my kids to their first show at Blossom last year. It's ok to not like a band. But when it's a band with genuine talent and humble band members, it's hard to understand why.
Carter is obviously a phenomenal drummer and both Leroi and his replacement are awesome saxophonists, dave is my all time favorite guitarist(I can play almost all of his songs) he's not the most technically advanced, but I love his style so much. On their own they're a good, but collectively, the music they make just never gets old, it mixes together so well. My all time favorite band, there's no one like them
My favorite band of all time ! Now 62 yrs. old feel the same. One thing that sucks at concerts is ALL THE DRUNK UNDERAGE KIDS TALKING ON THEIR CELL PHONES! Ughh so annoying. Anyone who says they don’t like the band has never seen them live! AWESOME BAND!❤️
I have been a DMB/Carter fan since 1994 and started playing in 1996. I even named my son Carter. Carter's playing is the main reason I go see DMB, his smile and joy are contagious. #gnarlybanner #dude I woud call he sequel to Under The Table and Drumming - "The Best of Drums Around". #drumtomorrow
This video legit makes me happy for you. I can’t even imagine how amazing u feel during this interview. Good for u man!! (I still want a pair of dude sticks)
never heard of this legend before watching harry and now im a HUGE FAN of the Dave Mathews band and Carter thank you harry for introducing me to both the Dave Mathews band and CARTER BEAUFORD! #dude
For CB beginners: play '#41' and 'You Never Know' on repeat for 1-2 years before graduating to the rest of Carter's/DMB's incredibly tasty catalog of thrills and "fills" (pun intended on the latter 😉).
This is EPIC. I was a bouncer at the New Daisy Theater in Memphis when Under The Table broke out. Back when they were doing 2 sets. I stood next to the stage and if a bomb had gone off in the audience I wouldnt have heard it. I was in a trance and immersed in greatness of this new band and Carter who I still swear has 3 arms because no human could connect with an instrument like that (RIP Neil Peart) that I'd ever witnessed live before. Got some signed swag later and he was such a down to Earth cat. Loved it. Been a proud fanboy ever since. Great interview man. Just made my day.
^This!!^ LoVEd watching/sharing your interview🥰 After a show in Scranton, PA 2009, an equipment truck driver gifted me w/ a drum head Carter played that night. I brought it to countless shows, across the 🇺🇸 ... Finally, after a jazz show in Reading, PA (2017) - I met Carter Beauford. He listened to my story SO patiently, autographed the drum head & pointed me out during the post show meet & greet and took a treasured picture w/ me‼️ ❤️ Carter is beyond gracious & humble. Thank you forever, Carter!!!
Harry, that was awesome and I am so happy for you to have had that moment with Carter! Excellent, insightful, thoughtful and well articulated questions dude.
I remember watching Carter as a child and being inspired to start a band. Just a kid from Ohio but still playing drums with 4-5 different bands to this day. Thanks for the inspiration, Mr. Beauford! Ive seen you live many times at Blossom and it’s always a dream come true. #dude #gnarlybanner #drumtomorrow #cats
# dude I’m a high school kid and started listening to Dave Matthews band about two years ago. I had always loved the drums and wanted to play but it wasn’t until I heard Carter Dudford play that I finally decided on making the leap, getting a kit, and started to learn this wonderful instrument thank you Carter
Predrag Tolmachev GO FOR IT!! “Take what you can from your dreams and make them as real as anything” You will find all the inspiration you need when you keep your mind and heart open ❤️ good luck to you
If you’ve just started listening to dmb then I’d begin at Remember Two Things. I love Carter but he’s regressed a little with his playing lately. It’s a lot more flash and bang these days instead of tight and intricate like he used to play. Long live the man!!!
#gnarlybanner - I saw DMB play Folsom field back in the 00’s. That night Carters nephew/cousin in law was my room mate went backstage and was able to get the drum sticks that carter played with. Carter signed them and wrote to the room mates see you next time. They are now framed above my Guitars. Carter is also my sons favorite drummer. Each day we aspire to practice and be our best selves not only with our music but how we approach the world and interact with others. Carter not only gives the same Vibe but reminds us that with a dream anything is possible. I want that gnarly item to go next to the sticks to keep telling the story of true inspiration can come from anywhere and from anyone. Carter is by far the best drummer ever. I am blessed to get to listen to it and see his bubble gum blowing smile and laughter on stage in a world field with so much hate. Cheers to you cats And Thanks for sharing the video.
This must have been a Dream come True to interview Carter. I have played Drums and Percussion for about 40 years and I have decided at almost 50 I want to make a run at becoming one of The Greats. I wake up by 4 every morning to get my lessons and practice in. I have to get up that early because I have to care for my Uncle who is a really good guy that has lived his life with epilepsy. Also a couple of years ago my Mom was diagnosed with Parkinson's and I was able to buy the house next door so I am able to look after them because she honestly is the Sweetest person I have ever known. I play multiple instruments but my Absolute Passion is Drumming and I try to pass that Love onto my Drum and Percussion Students. I really did enjoy this video and if I may suggest a title for the sequel; STEP TWO: BECOMING A SAMURAI DRUMMER... #DUDE #GNARLYBANNER #DRUMTOMORROW
I've been drumming since around 1965. Mr. Beauford is one of the few who still confounds me. He is one of the best, for sure, and seems like a really cool guy, to boot.
Dude, 💯.., Carter gave away his secret. Not only that, but you got Carter drumming to my FAVORITE Dave song. I don't have an idea for the next title, but THANK YOU for making this video and confirming what I believed all this time. Truly Thank You, J
i love you harry, don’t scare me like that again, you’re a huge inspiration for me. You keep me motivated to get better at drums. You motivated me to keep going.
The whole interview was Harry in complete awe of Carter. And Carter giving credit for almost all of his success to people who inspired him. Great to see 2 great drummers/musicians show such respect to their inspirations. Great interview!
I'm so happy you got to interview Carter. I found your channel 5 years ago when you uploaded 5 tips for Drumming like Carter Beuford. I haven't drummed in years, and mostly play guitar/produce on our channel. But I do write drums for us still, and Carter is my all time fav drummer. (You wouldn't think listening to the music we make) But for real... What a legend. You're a real dude Harry. Also, if ever in AZ, come by our studio, let's collab. Put you in a vid with us!
#gnarlybanner This interview/video was so awesome and down to earth, just as I always would believe Carter the type of person to be! I would always see this banner at our local music store hanging on the wall and Carter’s huge contagious smile would always light up my heart knowing that a good guy is being a great leader in music! Carter has been such a huge influence for me and my playing. I have always loved how his spirit sang in the songs that he played on the drums, never the same thing and just the right feel for the moment. This is what I have always aspired do when I played…and to share a moment in time with a listener and hopefully leave a smile with them, just as Carter has always done for me. I thank you Carter for infecting me early in life with the desire to share music and understand that it can and should be something fun and beautiful! Thanks Harry for this great interview and sharing your passion of drumming and music!! All the best friends and I wish you all the best in 2020…happy drumming to all!!
I legit teared a bit seeing those UTTAD VHS tapes! I used to watch those every day after school and one day my mom got mad at me and broke my tapes. She later bought the DVD version because she felt horrible (we all make mistakes) but I always missed those VHS tapes. Thanks for this video, it brought me back to being a kid again.
Aspirations: After a brief gig years ago drumming in a rock band in Nashville while going to grad school, I now aspire, as a father of three in his mid thirties, to show my kids the joy I get when behind the drum kit and hopefully one day be able to return to playing out live. #gnarlybanner
I played in great bands in college, took time off, all the family stuff, now at 46 I play in a great band, and we do shows all the time. Do it!!! I love the drums more than ever, and man is it great to go on stage again... We are like college kids; with WAY more money for gear.
He's a technical genius on the drums. He may not be the best drummer of all time but his unique flavor and style and ability to play himself into the music while still having it sound synchronized and fluid in the songs he takes the Cake on creative drumming, his beats never sound out of place or 'off-beat', he's basically the entire reason you go see Dave live. You're in for a treat Everytime because he's back there driving every moment and it's so amazing. Buddy Rich is so amazing, and makes sense why he's quoted him here, that's always my first pick for influential all time badass drummer.
Two amazing drummer dudes hanging together talking my language! Loved the “What Would You Say” breakdown segment! That was so friggin cool! Carter is my hero! Keep it real gentlemen. That is all...Oh yes and #dude. Oh and this too: “For the Love of drumming” for #drumtomorrow
I think the true #dude greats of drums and well...anything...exude humbleness! I see that in both of you #cats! I have been playing drums for 30 years, but I have learned the most over the last few years watching great tutorials. I would love to see the sequel and I think #drumtomorrow is a great name and it would be a really next level drumming tutorial! I think my biggest aspirations would be able to breathe new life into some of the same things that I play on a consistent basis like Carter and that #gnarlybanner would be a great reminder to help me with that! Cheers to meeting more heros!
I'm no musician at all but I love DMB and the way Carter plays is so interesting to me. I wish I had the knowledge to understand why his way if playing captures my ear. Awesome interview and a sequel would be amazing! Thanks for sharing.
So glad you got to meet Carter and express your admiration in person!! You bring such a joy and sense of wonder to how you share your love for the drums. You were beaming throughout this interview so much that I got to see how I myself would feel talking to Carter! The Evolution of the WWYS fill was sooo cool to hear. And Drum Tomorrow is perfect!
Let's make this a series: "raddest drumming duderino gets to interview his drumming heroes and have the chillest conversations. Dude." I'm not even a drummer, but the drumming and the vibe in these videos are so chill and I LOVE IT. Glad to have a new video 🤓!
Glad to see you are back man. #dude. #gnarlybanner. I want to keep getting better at drums and play on a record someday as well as another concert stage and have that be a part of my legacy as a musician.
Thank you Harry. Carter is the ultimate. Really happy for you to have this experience. You earned it dude. Now for my aspirations on the drums since it would mean the world to me to have such a #gnarlybanner ... I am left handed and was taught to play closed handed by a very closed minded (albeit phenomenal drummer) instructor. I too was lucky to be gifted Carter’s UTTADrumming as a teen and have been open hand since. My aspiration for the drums is to nail down three Carter tunes in You Never Know, #41, Captain from Chicago Caravan (where Carter creams the fill to lift the band out of a bit of a funk, well except Timmy who was slaying it from the start). Why learn these songs in particular? Well... my father and mother have been my biggest fans since I was just a child (kind enough that they even let me have the drum set let alone gifting my first set to me and the lessons and the UTTADrumming and not to mention allowing that I play day or night). Incredible parents really. And to top it off, I got into Carter/DMB thru my dad and mom whom bought the album after seeing them open for Big Head Todd early 90s. (I was born in 89, I’m 30 yrs old.) I feared adding this but my parents both each had illness in the last several years and tho they are doing fairly super well now, #dude thanks for asking, it’s been my mission of late to learn those most challenging licks for them and share it with them in the next year. So I’ll play that #drumtomorrow and every day after as well. Well, I’m sure you can appreciate the story regardless of any super sweet Carter memorabilia. Love you dude and here’s to Carter making another drum instructional. Health and happiness, Ryan
Just glorious love and respect. It's so common for the interviewer to just ask questions and not respond to the answers, but Harry, as expected, is asking the questions and responding with the things we all want to say back. Big love and respect, dudes!
Carter's presence on stage is quintessential #dude. The joy and energy he conveys to his band-mates and audience inspires me to do the same in my drumming, although that @gnarlybanner might inspire me too. In honor of Carter never playing the same lick twice, #drumtomorrow should be published with as many different names as possible.
I bet Carter went and saw the movie “Cats” and thought it was gonna be about some dudes just chilling.
P-diddy21 Lololololololol.
AHHHHHH!! :D. Knock out comment right there! haha.
Brooo that killed me
...so dumb.
I had read there was so much pussy in that movie. Man, I was disappointed when I watched it.
I'm honestly just so happy for Harry that this happened.

My thoughts exactly!! Dream come true!!
I bet it was one of his best days.

I like how he talks about the cats who gave him time and how awesome that was. You know he’s just passing along that great tradition of good vibes
And just like that, he's back.
Praise the drum gods for his return. TH-cam without regular Harry videos is a sad panda.

Well done man! You climbed the Everest of Drumming interviews. You must be pumped!
And you climed it with grace, awe and dudeness.
Dude!!
List of people allowed to wear hat backwards:
- kids under 25 years old...
- professional NBA players...
-Dudes...
-Tony Hawk...
- Carter!!
Tony Hawk? Only when he was under 25.
Chad smith
@@AnodyneHipsterInfluencer Tony Hawk is allowed to do anything
I’m gonna fight you on this. 23 tops
Immediately thought of Chad Smith a.k.a. Will Farrell as well...
Dudes, I still cant believe I just watched this!!!
“What would you play?” Under the Table and Drumming Vol. 2
I've been drumming since around 1965. Mr. Beauford is one of the few who still confounds me. He is one of the best, for sure, and seems like a really cool guy, to boot.
The dude is alive, dude!?
Damn! Hanging with Buddy Rich, Miles Davis and Vic Firth. The best ambidextrous drummer ever. Oh, and the Dude is also smoking. Thanks Harry!
Carter seems like a wonderful human being and his speed and dexterity is second to none. From Africa, much love to both of you
Dude, 💯.., Carter gave away his secret.
Not only that, but you got Carter drumming to my FAVORITE Dave song.
I don't have an idea for the next title, but THANK YOU for making this video and confirming what I believed all this time.
Truly Thank You,
J
i love you harry, don’t scare me like that again, you’re a huge inspiration for me. You keep me motivated to get better at drums. You motivated me to keep going.
I wish I was just 1/10 as cool as Carter, man. Not even talking about his talent
The whole interview was Harry in complete awe of Carter. And Carter giving credit for almost all of his success to people who inspired him. Great to see 2 great drummers/musicians show such respect to their inspirations. Great interview!
Beautiful!!!😎🤘🙏
I'm so happy you got to interview Carter. I found your channel 5 years ago when you uploaded 5 tips for Drumming like Carter Beuford. I haven't drummed in years, and mostly play guitar/produce on our channel. But I do write drums for us still, and Carter is my all time fav drummer. (You wouldn't think listening to the music we make) But for real... What a legend. You're a real dude Harry.
Also, if ever in AZ, come by our studio, let's collab. Put you in a vid with us!
Two of the best.
Dude I don’t even play drums but love your videos and Carter. Dude. You met him. Duuuuude.
I agree. Carter is one of the greatest drummers of his time. Genius at his best!
The energy in this video is so wholesome and respectful. Carter seemed genuinely touched by your enthusiasm.
Every time I think "What ever happened to that Harry guy?" there's some awesome video pops up. Thanks Harry!
Carter is one of the reasons I started playing. He has a natural just flow to literally everything he plays. I could listen to him all day
"Drum Tomorrow" pretty much describes my practice regime...
Undeniably one of the funkiest drummers - he's so musical - thanks for this intimate interview. It's cool to hear his perspective.
HES ALIVE
My same reaction!
Holy moly, my two favorite dudes!
I'm literally screaming when TH-cam recommended this to me. the Dude is baaaaaack!
I love how Carter always has a smile on his face. Such positive energy. Thank you for sharing this video. #dude #PEACELOVEMUSIC
Glad to got to meet your idle man, great interview. Glad to see Carter is smiling in and out of interviews
Great interview with what seems like just a generous, peaceful soul. Great job.
So humble for a legend. Great video.
I'm no musician at all but I love DMB and the way Carter plays is so interesting to me. I wish I had the knowledge to understand why his way if playing captures my ear. Awesome interview and a sequel would be amazing! Thanks for sharing.
Carter the inspiration
Carter's commitment to the audience is fantastic. Always wanting to give them a unique, little bit of him each show. Great video #dude
the absolute best!!!!!! Seeing my 2 favorite drummers chat!
Even his roll on the cowbell at the end was fucking litty. Dope.
I want to learn to play with such a precise and unique feel that I don’t sound like anyone except myself!! #gnarlybanner
What an awesome interview , a true legend on the skins. Thank you, that just made my day, week, month, maybe year?
Let's make this a series: "raddest drumming duderino gets to interview his drumming heroes and have the chillest conversations. Dude."
I'm not even a drummer, but the drumming and the vibe in these videos are so chill and I LOVE IT. Glad to have a new video 🤓!
Glad to see you are back man. #dude. #gnarlybanner. I want to keep getting better at drums and play on a record someday as well as another concert stage and have that be a part of my legacy as a musician.
Or since it’s a sequel, “Under the Table and STILL Drumming”
this rollercoaster of emotions with you coming back #dude
Health and happiness,
Ryan
Just glorious love and respect. It's so common for the interviewer to just ask questions and not respond to the answers, but Harry, as expected, is asking the questions and responding with the things we all want to say back. Big love and respect, dudes!
Your passion is such an inspiration that everyone should look to if they ever feel any doubt in their abilities #dude.
Carter was a huge influence on me since the 90s what a great honor to meet him.. Def one of the best to ever play..
Dude.... this is hands down my favorite carter interview. You lucky bastard!!
