A genuinely nice guy who plays and communicates extremely well. And he's clearly dedicated. Can't imagine anyone giving this guy a bad reference. This is the blueprint for a rewarding career.
Love this concept and this dude so much. So often people hear “serve the song” and think it means “play as little as possible,” when the song can be served just as much from your creativity as your restraint. The point is that whatever you’re playing works together with the rest of the music, and that you never lose that sense of groove.
Absolutely. Couldn't have said it better! The funny thing is, we know he is extremely influenced by the great Carter Beauford. And although Carter is also one of my heroes and favorite drummers, I think he is an example of overplaying much of the time. I have seriously seen Dave Matthews band probably about 35 times live over the last 25 years. And I'm always confused when he goes on these extremely impressive, but highly distracting chop sessions. I remember once at the end of "Ants marching", he played 32nd note "hertas" for like 24 bars. That literally killed the groove and the mood of the music and no matter how impressive the drumming was, it was awful to listen to. I think Harry strikes the perfect balance of flash and substance.
@@robertduley5446 He has a whole video about his kit and switching to open handed. And he doesn't take himself seriously, which makes him fun to watch.
this was terrific. Harry has so much natural fun and personality that comes through in his playing. I've been a fan of his since I saw his 'Dude What if I don't want to play the cajon' video. This is probably up there in my favorite Drumeo vids with the Randy Cooke rock drumming video. Fantastic, entertaining, and very useful.
Dude, this is one of my favorite Drumeo episodes. Harry's great. Love the in-the-trenches, meat-and-potatoes, working-class drummer approach-and not apologizing for it. Solid base chops and a "I'm here to support the music/band/singer, not showcase my skills" attitude will get you the call every time.

Dear Dude, I’ve followed you enough to confirm that you have, without question, earned the right to leave behind any notion of “Imposter Syndrome”. You are the real deal, so thanks for sharing a piece of your musical journey!
DUDE, you are such a great drummer. Your facial expressions and energy are just icing on the cake. Anybody who puts you on the payroll is getting everything they are paying for. Don't change and don't ever stop DUDE!
This dude is a national treasure. Like one of his idols, Carter B, he plays a lot of notes, but always in support of the song, making it better. Never loses the groove/pulse during any of it.
I really love the balance of personality with straight solid playing, expression, and groove. Imposture syndrome nothin'....when I hear this type of music I want to hear this type of drumming. New fan cause the playing is so expressive and solid.
I'm in absolute awe, how this DUDE just absolutely KILLS it on the drums, with stupefyingly simple beats played to "standard mainstream" radio-pop-songs, that sound like they're from the early 2000s. This is absolutely inspiring to see how you can get a fantastic sound just by focussing on laying down a SOLID GROOVE

This dude is not just an incredible drummer, but damn, personality is off the charts! I can only say, this "Dude" is gonna be untouchable! I actually met him! Congrats Harry!
Wow I love how he's using a double kick as his main pedal and and extension for his hi-hat to play open handed. I was just wondering if this would work the other day and now it's confirmed! So sick
Abe laboriel Jr drummer for Paul McCartney is the first person I ever seen set they're drum kit up like that don't know who actually did it first I'm just saying Abe was the first person I ever seen do it.
Brian Randolph it’s weird, Paul’s played with a drummer who was left handed drummer with a right handed kit and a right handed drummer with a left handed kit, kinda weird
I even have the rack Tom 1 at front right, rack Tom 2 at front left, then floor Tom 1 at my right and floor Tom 2 at my left similarly to his kit. This helps me to keep the open hands sticking, snare L, Tom1R, Tom2L, Tom3R, then either land on snareL or Tom4L. Try to figure every drum fill you hear in pop music with this setting and I found it better for me.
He uses a remote hi hat with the pedal nuzzled up really close to the main pedal. Since he’s righty, he uses a lefty pedal but the slave is his main kick. I dig it a lot.

"The sticking doesn't really matter on this one." My thoughts EXACTLY every time someone is trying to dumb down super advanced chops to beginners level. Like, sticking matters if you are practicing rudiments for the sake of improving your technique but don't expect bands and artist to write it out for you if you need to learn a set. And right and left hand sounds exactly the same.
Leotardoification sticking doesn't matter on that fill since you end with 3 triplets on the kick and have plenty of time for beat 4 and ultimately beat 1 of the following bar. Sticking certainly matters to make fills flow and not choke halfway or just before the downbeat.
One of the best drummers going. Even though he openly mocks musicianship, dynamics, and phrasing in other videos, he is one of the best current players at delivering those things. That's why his drumming is special! Great nuances, variety of sounds, timbres and effects, while playing great, creative rhythmic beats that never interfere with the melody and just get you grooving! YES!!! I'm so happy to see Harry's love for Carter Beauford integrate itself into so many different genres, and ultimately, success for himself. I like his drum set up. He's a right handed drummer but has his hi hat on the right even though it's operated by his left foot. This means his arms aren't crossed given him greater freedom around the kit.
I play open-handed when I feel it suits the song. No need to cross arms, even with traditional kit arrangement. All it takes is dedication to balance your left hand terchnique. See Carter Beaufort of Dave Matthews Band for example of mastery.
I have mine set up the same way with the lefty double pedal, but my hi-hat is in the middle like Danny Carey's. I pushed my bass drum left and forward so there are no toms over it. They all sound so much better.
Harry's honesty about his shortcomings makes me feel so much better about my own shortcomings. And helps me not feel embarrassed for not using rudiments in my playing. Singles for days!

Dude short sells himself. He is a very talented drummer and it was very inspiring to see him perform.
This guy has such a stoner goofball energy, I love it. No wonder he gets work. Seems very easy to work with.

@@dontfallyoumighthurtyourse4694 I meant with the stoner goofball energy comment, I found the energy a bit subjective
Harry is the reason I got into drums! He's the man. Love his DMB covers. Open hand for life!
