As soon as he cancelled the sale to you saying he had agreed to sell it to someone else for more money, I would have walked away. That said a lot about what type of person you were dealing with.

@@Bob-ts2tu He is not really restoring them, that is a lot more work and probably not worth it for him. He is getting them running and selling them again I am sure.
They probably usually break pretty soon if they are ridden, depending on the shape they are in when he gets them. Restoring is the most investment. But getting a old bike 100% mechanically sound takes more time, money and attention to detail also. He does the minimum, (gets it running good), and probably sells them for a fair price, (or he would not be able to sell them.). This kid needs to get an engineering degree, (I know the type). He would get good at it and he would get a lot of satisfaction with his own mind, and that is a beautiful thing. :)

i think he was making a joke because a couple of videos ago. He had one that the piston was gone. Ended up finding it shredded in bottom of engine,

Its addictive watching you strip these projects down & rebuilding them & you do it so easily thats some serious skills you've got
Theres alot better channels out there that dont do it half ass an do actual full rebuilds of these legendary bikes this guy slaps the cheapest parts possible at them to get them running and throws them on market place i live like 30 mins from him
You should start calling these people out by name so hopefully others will see the name and avoid getting ripped off also.

If there was nothing to do the video wouldn’t be half as interesting. I don’t think this is a guy that has trouble learning. Looks at how many things he can turn his hand to.

@@USMichigunPrepper He is a better dirt bike mechanic then I am which is why I am impressed with him I probably owned at least 50 or more mostly two strokes but water in oil is ALWAYS a bad thing .Thats a common knowledge with any engine mechanic

94 CR125R was a great bike. This one looks in pretty clean original condition and I think still a good deal …….you won’t lose money if you sell it after rebuilding I bet ! Very sought after bike for vintage racing and collectors

I have learned that if you cant start it AND ride it, then buy it at a price you wont be disappointed at when you have to tear it all down to fix it.
I would call the seller back and tell them, sometimes they will give money back out of guilt/fear. Not always but can't hurt to try.

That's a good point. Sometimes it's scarier, but at least they are usually more upfront if you know where they live.
I just like watching the repairs. Not into any supposed seller drama. If the bikes weren’t a mess, there obviously wouldn’t be anything to show.

It is a total sham that previous owners lie about the condition or history of a bike.
Your right in saying that you need to check out the condition of the machine. Compression, Brakes, Gas Tank & verify the Title Year with the Serial Number.

I appreciate your honesty. A 5-10 min quick look at oil, air filter, radiator, gas tank, shifting gears and kick starting it is mandatory. They took advantage of you here, but we often learn more from our mistakes than successes. You’re also a gentleman for not ripping the seller a new orifice for lying to you. I’ll keep watching your awesome vids.
He does it for content. The short list you just came up with is being purposely ignored. Joe’s the stupidest mechanic or the best content maker. He’s definitely not a bad mechanic.

Who ever gets it after your done will have a new one more or less ! You just breeze right threw these with hardly a problem thanks for your efforts they help so many .
Hobby machinist here, always use Propane heat for every (interference fit) tight fit. I see way to many YT jockeys pounding or pulling without their friend. All bearings and seals are going to need replacing, keep receipts if reselling. I see very little RUST inside the engine. A Good Thing! Vinny is a cool dog. His sniffer would have told you.
Love to see that you put serious effort into your work, so sad to see that guy rip you off selling a great bike that was ruined by abuse and neglect. Hope you are feeling better joe, and wish you the best of luck with the Cr125!
Ol' Joe loves his dirt bikes. Good looking little cycle. I've ridden a CR500 and loved it. The story behind the bike, my Grandma only road to church down the block on Sundays and Ash Wednesdays. Closing in on 500k subs, do we each get a project?

I got to say you will have a really nice CR 125 when your done. I thought it was my first bike at first but mine was a 92 CR 125. You have alot more patience than I do. Good video cant wait for the next one on this bike.

Love watching these videos, not just for your knowledge but your always positive attitude. If that happened to me, that seller would have been on BLAST after cussing at the engine seeing the damage.
I agree, really good bike channel. No crazy opening music, self serving look at me openings, just getting into the nuts and bolts. As for wearing gloves, learned my lesson, I have contact dermatitis on my hands, wear gloves. I also respect how the prior owner is not trashed in his videos.
This is one of the most real to life TH-cam videos out there. This shit happens to a bunch of people
One thing to think about is that those year models are amazing bikes and frames, and sell for waaaay more than you would think now.

Great video, takes me back (1978) to when the smell of oil in the morning was a job. Retired now and love your channel, you are a good diagnostic mechanic. Cheers bro!

You can use a radiator tube for temporary fix for the carb to the Reed tube
As much as i hate to see you get cheated these tear down videos are what i love to see. Makes great content and am sure im not the only one who thinks so. I doubt he had a buyer for 1500 tho.

Joe I think every seller in Wisconsin knows you are the only buyer.
That cylinder plating Honda started using in 1988 (Nikisil), is awesome stuff. If you never get any detonation, or seize the engine, that plating lasted (on my 250), 6 sets of piston/rings, (6 years riding/racing every summer.), and it was getting worn a bit, but still in spec and usable. I even sucked in a bunch of sand the first week after I bought it new, (I assumed the air filter was oiled, and it wasn't.), and that sand did not hurt the plating at all.
This is my new favorite TH-cam show to watch. I love this guy. He’s awesome.

Love your channel, really impressed with your mechanical skill set, you seem like such a likable, hardworking person. I like a previous persons idea of creating a buyer checklist of what to check when your going to look at these bikes, that may prevent missing things when your checking them out for the first time at the sellers location. This old Cr is definitely a cool bike, but with that said not sure what the resale is after you get it running correctly. If the end game is to make a profit with the resale of all these bikes your rebuild, then buying them at a much lower initial price has to be your #1 focus. What a fantastic looking bike! Great job love your videos but not the first time that I think to myself why don’t you make a small checklist when buying a bike, small things that you can check but do not miss because every time you’re there if you have it listed I bet it will help :)
Simple but very important things can be easily forgotten when doing a deal and that can work in your favour or against!

You would like take people at their word but more and more it's not the case. In my experience, people that agree to a price and then increase afterwards are mostly shady. I would have had to pass. Hell yeah Joe that bike looks great for being a 1994. I wish I could still ride with out changing gears. I have drop foot on my left side so I can’t move my foot up and down to switch gears. On my Harley my dad gave me has a rocker shifter
I've seen a video of someone using a heatgun on faded plastics, and it looked like new after. If you have an old piece that's not usable, you could try it and see if it works for you. I did a garden chair with great results.👍

I think not necessarily since there are also weirdo buyers out there. Who'll be mad at a seller no matter what. Even if a seller paid them $1,500 to take the bike. They'll still be mad and vindictive about something.
I meet publicly because I’ve had “buyers” come back and try to break into my shop. Learned my lesson
