Today's adventure - (we believe) is Utah's most shocking and unbelievable Rock Art, up close and personal! These petroglyphs are BY FAR the best, Curtis has ever seen. And he has seen and compared a lot of Native American ruins, and these ones are " pretty crazy". :)
This Historical Landmark is in Uintah Country, Utah - AKA, Dry Fork Canyon.
We met the landowner a few years back, and she took us around the property and told us many interesting stories about growing up here on her ranch. You could spend many hours here exploring because the characters you will see, all have a story to tell. They will give you chills , for sure!
One trail is under a mile long, with some steep and rocky parts but nothing to serious. Most of the Ancient Ruins represent the Fremont culture, anywhere from 1 A.D. - 1200 A.D. Some of the most impressive petroglyphs are 9ft tall and 200 high on sandstone cliffs. They were clearly documenting for a very long time, and you will leave there with a lot of unanswered questions.
Ironically - Curtis ran into the property owner again( for a second time) and had the pleasure of speaking with her. She showed him around and let him explore "the PIT house" and view some of her Relics... Luckily he didn't get STUCK going down in the pit house - almost though lol..
Afterward, Curtis wraps up his time at the McConkie Ranch (which some say is haunted ) to head out and find camp for the night . It's hard to believe you're winter camping in Utah - in February, when it's warm outside. Not the same as Arizona, but still nice for where he was. Now it's starting to get dark, so time to do an another amazing time lapse, get a campfire going and make dinner.
His final destination is a short travel on Bonanza Highway. Taking you on a backcountry trail to Fantasy Canyon. This nature trip is so breath-taking and will also leave you to speculate, and become speechless. It's absolutely incredible. Discovered by a paleontologist in 1909 (allegedly)- it is stunning.
Hope you enjoyed this video and even more , you hope you'll come back soon. Thanks!
Curtis and Chantel
Another fantastic video I can almost feel there spirits with those petroglyphs love it
Thanks Tracy! This place certainly has a distinct feel to it - no doubt
I'm totally amazed at these petroglyphs!! The people that saw these Head Hunters thousands of years ago and drew what they had seen on the rocks** So many of them had square heads, really?
And they were holding square heads in their hands!!!! WOW!*!*!*!*!*!*!*! So much history there to explore. I could smell the roaring fire and I'm so ready to go to the mountains camping!! Fantasy Canyon was awesome* I swear I seen faces watching you Curtis* They had eyes and a mouth and some of them looked scary! I loved the video and all the history you told us. Thanks so much for another great ride-a-long adventure!!!! Can hardly wait until next Friday!!!!!!!
Thanks for a great tour!
You're so welcome 🙏.
Wonderful video, the crisp winter scene is beautiful and thanks for a clear view of the wonderful petroglyphs. The host ranch is a gem
Thank you so much.😀 This is my favorite place for Rock Art in Utah. I had the pleasure of meeting Ms. McConkie a couple of times. She's amazing. So many stories. She was tough as nails and as sweet as sugar. Thanks for watching.
Excellent visit. You didn't tell the name of the town. Fantasy Canyon is just CRAZY CONVOLUTED!. Thanks alot;
It's one of my favorite places. You must of just missed it. Oh, well. I think I only said it once. Vernal Utah. The Basin has a lot of interesting stuff 🤔 😳 👀. Good place to explore. Thanks 👍 for hanging out.
Never knew Utah had this sort of neet stuff! I have been to Vernal a long time ago and knew Utah had dinosaurs. Awesome video Curtis!
Thanks Steve. Appreciate it
8:17 Six fingers, interesting.
Around 21:00 (before and after): A lot of water was flowing through this.
Very interesting site 🤔. There are definitely signs of a great flood in this area. Maybe from the end of the last ice age 🤔. I wish I knew for sure.
CHILL VIDEO THANK YOU

McConkie is awesome. Haven't done Fantasy canyon yet, will be doing it this year. Did you go to Moonshine Arch?
No I have not. I will look into that right now lol. Thank you Stacy. awesome - glad you're here
I had no idea there were petroglyphs like that! They're fantastic!
The only place I know of that has rock art like this . It's so amazing here.
Its all over Utah. Especially southern Utah.
@@shaynejenkins446 Definitely. I find them all over the southwest. But not headhunters. 👀
Amazing. Thanks
You are welcome 👍
Wow...what a place! I know geologists will correct me, but Fantasy Canyon looks like it's made by human hand.
I don't know what substances they will have ingested while creating it!! 😵💫👀
Those petroglyphs make me wonder too...
😆Maybe sand and glue? Like the sandcastle competitions? My favorite rock art in Utah so far. Only head hunter art I know of. The vibe in that canyon is very strong.
@@offroad801 👌👍
Thanks for taking me on this adventure!
No problem 👍
Jean is a sweetheart ♥ - that's who you talked with when you visited.
She is amazing. I've been lucky enough to meet her a couple of times. Love that place. Thanks for watching.
Sculptural rocks resemble a Yves Tanguy painting.
Hmm. I will have to find that and check it out. Thanks for watching 👀
Nice fire. You sort the gathered sticks the same way I do--I had to laugh.
Sweet. It seems to work the best. That tells me you have good campfires. 👍
Best petroglyphs around!
I will agree. My favorite!!!
very close to home i know of many more also
Nice. I love it around there. I lived in Lapoint for a few years. Great place to explore.
hey pal, you are kinda cool man XD ngl
greets from germany
Thanks 👍. Just being me. I love exploring. And being real. I would definitely enjoy exploring Germany. Thanks for watching 👀 👍
They look a lot like Egyptians.
A little bit, I guess .🤔
Stuff looks like it was made last week
The rock art 🎨 near Vernal is some of the best 👌.
🤔 i seen one missing his body.. Only the head and legs were there
at 26:07 does anyone see a face in the huge rock on the right? In my mind I see a brow, nose, cheeks, and lips!
Nice. My wife finds faces in the rocks all the time. So I'm pretty sure you did. I'll have to look again and check.
Thank you. I wish I knew what they mean
There are so many amazing pieces of rock art at the ranch. They make you think. 🤔 I love camping in that canyon. Thanks for watching 👀
Is it just me or does the image at 8:10 have 6 fingers? Interesting........
I would say yes. Looks like 6 fingers to me too.
Six digits on hands , like Goliath a philistine . Some of the people depicted are in the Egyptian style with narrow waisted and broad shoulders like Egyptian hieroglyphs depictions or similar possibly with Hebrew slaves, then a clue is paleo block Hebrew letters and word phrases. Maybe 🤔??
Your ideas are just as possible as most of the others. Anyone's guess 🤔.
@@offroad801 check the rock on mystery mountain, the decalogue Stone 🪨 , it's got Phoenician , Egyptian , some old Greek old Russian ,old Mediterranean people's over a thousand years old it's in New Mexico. The Philistines became the Phoenician and the Phoenicians were a mercenary element of the Egyptian Navy.
@@TravisMcKnight-lk7gg 👍 I will have to put it on the list. Sounds interesting 🤔. Thanks
@4:09, these are the guys who invented hula hoops.....no?
Maybe? I thought possibly they were shields 🛡. But hula hoops 🤔.
What's the difference between a pit house and a kiva?
I'm no expert. But I think they are very similar. But it sounds like the kiva is larger and used for gatherings and ceremonies. And the pit houses are where the family units would live. I think 🤔
dolls scaryest in every way,...need bigger building for museum ,ask for donations .
Old dolls are very creepy. I hope they can find a way to preserve that area. I think there are new owners now.
Did you know before all the scientists lies of the 1800s and the lies of dinosaurs, all of these bones used to be found were called dragons.
I have heard that before. 🤔Makes me wonder. Who really knows?
Do you know the word scientist was not used until 1834?
When the first Ford model T rolled off the assembly line it had a top speed of 45 mph.
"Coincidentally" the T-Rex was discovered at the same time. It had a top speed of 45mph.
I wrote a crazy place but beautiful and a little later you said the same thing I was going to delete my opinion but we got the same feeling.
I'm grateful that you guys go out into nature with me like this. I am wheelchair-bound after an accident and I have always loved nature. I take my car for a spin, but it's not the same, you know.
❤ from me 👨🦽.
I'm so glad you found us. Sounds like you're on the same brain wave as us too. I'm happy to bring you on every adventure. The great outdoors is the best place to be. I wish I could spend more time outdoors. Thank you so much for watching.
