- In central Utah there are several superb Native American rock art sites and the Rochester Panel near the small town of Emery is probably one of the most spectacular. Along with providing a virtual tour of the site, this updated video shows an aerial view of the hike and gives a hint of what some experts think of some of the rock art's meaning. I am just in awe!! I love looking at Petroglyphs/Pictographs, I could stand there for a long time just thinking about it all & wondering. I wonder what they saw & thought. But the stupid people that vandalize these amazing places, I hope they get their bad karma, it just upsets me some. To many people ruining beautiful places. Wonderful video!! If I could still hike, I could follow your directions to get there. You spent enough time on each of the petroglyphs that I actually don't have to go there in person.. They remind me
of a petroglyph wall in Oluwalu, Maui. The human like figures have the same trapezoid shape. The one with the bullet hole in the belly is like the forms in the Hawaiian petroglyph fields and they
think that those are women giving birth. The Hawaiians brought the umbilical chords of their young and buried them as family groupings (they think). That was not done at Oluwalu, but on the flat

Also the rainbow could be just that, a rainbow, to denote a safe meeting place there on that ancient penninsula in an ancient river (10,000yrs ago)…if all forms of artform was found on that wall; maybe that signifies a constant agreed upon point..it could possibly denote a “meeting place” ? Something that is known to the ancient peoples throughout the whole area? 🤷🏾 Just a guess

Amazing that this site hasn’t been vandalized more considering how accessible it is.
It's in an area seldom visited. Sadly however, places like Zion National Park, which never saw graffiti before, are now experiencing bouts due to increased tourism of "different types of people" during COVID. Let's hope they don't venture any further north.

I think that what the symbols mean is a mystery. There is decent evidence to show that this was at least used in some way to observe or measure time. I'm struggling to picture a shadow from a pole following the rainbow glyph. Still, interesting video. Thanks for sharing.

hmmpf. I must say, this is indeed possibly my favorite petroglyph of all time. And I have been exploring the canyons and deserts of Utah for over 5 decades now and have seen thousands of glyphs, and probably all the well known ones. Yet these guys completely overlooked an important aspect of this petroglyph. Across the canyon, and easily visible from the Rochester site, is a huge glyph spanning at least 100 feet long and 40 feet high or so. It consists of a series of dots laid out in a rectangular grid. I have seen other petroglyphs with this theme, but always on a small scale. If you visit, be sure to watch for those. Rochester also has been called the "African" or "Egyptian" petroglyph, as many of the animal figures remind some of hippos, lions, and crocodiles.
I live close to the Rochester panel and visit often, I've also explored the immediate area extensively and I've never seen the glyph that you mentioned that's across the canyon. Are you sure that is located at the Rochester Panel?
@@ryanmoreau4928 Check with wide angle binoculars. You will also probably see a later petroglyph with a mounted man on a horse. I also did not see the "grid" until around my third visit; Which I attributed to carelessness, but it is possible it is not easy to see unless the light is at just the right angle. The circles are reddish in color, just like the regular petroglyphs. Also these circles are higher on the canyon wall; they must have hung from ropes to make them. You may be looking too low, where you would normally expect them to be.
@@bigfoot99 that later 'petroglyph' is what people here around the swell call 'cowboy rock art', it's probably 70 years old or so, there is cowboy rock art literally everywhere around the Rochester Panel. I will be visiting this weekend, I will look for that panel, seeing how its 'at least a 100 feet long and 40 feet high' it shouldn't be hard to miss. If that is that case it will by far be the largest panel in the state. I'm skeptical though, I've been there literally hundreds of times and never seen it.

Either people just being creative or (possibly) a "Creation tale" ie Genesis-like.The suggestion of asking The Dene people for their interpretation sounds like a great idea...
Amazing work. Those rock art looks so interesting. My theory is they are made by one man or possibly a small group. This is because the style seems to not deviate much. I think they are mostly random and shouldn’t be looked in too deep for meaning. I think they are just expressing themselves through art. Free styling as they go. Finding nice rock canvas to carve on. The collage of carvings was quite marvelous to see. Kind of reminded me of an indigenous American version of renaissance paintings.
According to the nearby museum in Castle Dale, their displays indicate that it was several artists over a period of time and told different stories. Unfortunately, just like with most rock art, nobody really knows.

Look at the work of Dr Wal Thornhill and Dr David Talbot ,"Thunderbolts of the Gods." This explains many of the things that people globally were witnessing in their skies, and carving in many symbolic ways ,but the repeating patterns of some of these symbols helped these scientist to decode their meaning. This really blew my mind. Fascinating, I recommend a look at their work on you tube. Thanks for the great shots of the rock art and information on this area.

Could the rainbow etching you show at 13:42 be a canyon? And the aquiggly lines to the bottom right which are connected and lead to a spiral...maybe this is a trail or river that leads to the spiral. And the long line to the left of the canyon has circles every so often. These could be springs. If you look at a map with this Rochester panel, you can see where the springs are in a line.

Almost everywhere you find these paintings you see same elements. It is clear that it cannot be random creation.This is sort of organic technical circuit of magnetic distribution of Flux. It uses universal rules and sort of fractal elementary shapes found in magnetic and dielectric spacial geometry, specifically adapted to the chosen rock. Search for the Ferrocell device on you tube

I wound up in a wheelchair due to a30 yr old injury I couldn't get treatment for till it was too late-- had extensive spinal cord surgery and I'm trying to start walking again but I'm stuck in a Nursing home post surgery and they frown on my trying to learn to walk -- anyway I wish I could go somewhere like this and make the half mile hike-- I was originally going to hike the Appalachian trail but...30 days in a Nursing home turned into5 years and they wouldn't let me get the surgery I needed to keep using my legs. It's a long fd up story but I hope to see some of the ancient American sites that I've been hoping to see. Never trust any Nursing home if you don't have family or friends that can protect you from being kidnapped.

I see history recorded on the organ of a Mud Fossil giant, the lower one was once covered by that upper layer. You see the attachment point to the rt. Many generations on that wall.

On a 2009 trip west, we saw petroglyphs on a panel called the Newspaper Rock. It’s near Monticello, Utah.

Yup, it's now in Bears Ears National Monument and on the highway to the Needles District of Canyonlands. But nothing beats the Rochester Panel!

I do not. I would consult the knowledgeable folks at the museum in Castle Dale, Utah, which is where I learned much of the information in the video.
Whem I photo Glyhs I use a Telephoto, 55. 300 mostly. I shoot them like a Panorama, typically 3 to 4 shots with a tripod with a head that is marked in degrees is helpful. You have to get a good overlap on the shots, set the Camera and lens to manuel because light conditions change quickly. A day eith now clouds helps againdt this happening and shoot them as quick ss you can. You get a very detailed picture of the whole panel in one picture after you stich it together. Hope this helps. How did the fremont people reach to higher sections of Rochester Rock to do their art?
One can only guess. There is a painting in the museum at Castle Dale that depicts the Fremont people creating it, but it's an educated guess.
Thanks, amazingly clear video. There seems to be some vitrified and blackened rock surface on the Rochester rock, almost as if the rock melted in some places, indicating intense heat. Did lighting struck there? Overall, many of these depictions seem to represent plasma formations in the sky. Look up "Symbols of an Alien Sky", by David Talbot, and check the Thunder Bolt Project website.
Thank for commenting. Keep in mind that I'm no expert and I'm just "video-izing" what was presented to us by a few people and 2 area museums. Bottom line, nobody really knows. The people that drew the panel are long gone and it was certainly done by many different people over different periods of time. Even the Native Americans of today debate about the various tales handed down thru the generations.
Both Rochester creek and the parowan gap are near dinosaur tracks. Each glyph is at a similar distance from their relative tracks and roughly in the same direction. I wonder if anyone else to attempting to continue the work on the calendar.

The animals In the upper left corner look like a hippo being chased by a alligator; i wouldn't be suprised if the area had more precipitation in ancient times so those animals would be indicative of a savannah type setting like in africa.. if thats true than that area where the wall sits was most likely a penninsula sticking out into a deep river
There's a small kangaroo like creature too.
On the Rochester Panel, I see depictions of the "Ant People" and "Mantis Beings". The rainbow might be a doorway or portal

We have seen rock art from Aboriginals. Yes, they are very similar! But I'll bet the same is true with those cave drawings in France. People are frequently drawing animals they see.

Those panels almost look like cut stone megaliths. Sharp straight 90° angles, flat smooth surfaces. ???

On 3:50 Head of Sinbad ... looks very similar to the Staff God of Tihuanacu or images of Enki in Mesopotamia. The pillars ... or staffs of Orion ... appear to be a recurring configuration of Jupiter and Saturn wung out at Aquarius that separates zodiacal ages. Taurus in 4514 BC -- the one pictured. Aries in 2011 BC. Pisces 7 BC. Last time it happened? Beginning of the fatal Age of Aquarius -- December 21, 2022. Whatever the ancients were attempting to communicate to us thousands of years ago is relevant, even vitally important, to us.
Always when I see these ancient pictures high on the rocks , puzzles me how did they reach that high to paint those pictures, now here at 12:17 do you see those letters E and A on that dark brown rock to the right ?, that is recent , how did THEY reach that high?!! Enlarge it even to the right of that EA there is LCA !!
Yea, that's unfortunate that some carved those letters. But everything isn't that high up, 10 feet tops.

Hard to guess what the ancients wanted to tell. This "rainbow" could also be a fence, maybe around a village, or a hut. The whole thing can be a map. And these trapezoid anthropomorphic figures reminded me of mesopotamian idols. Wall-E, is it you?

I am most familiar with Navajo and Apache cultural artifacts in New Mexico. I don't like what the Mormons have done in Utah, so might never go there.
Don't let the Mormons scare you. I'm not Morman, I live in Utah, they don't bother anyone. In fact, they are responsible for keeping a pristine environment here as opposed to other sites, such as in California that have been obliterated by vandals.
Many of these images are depicted in figurines found in Turkey, Iraq, Syria etc, the Vlad9VT channel is great at pointing them out in Ur and other ancient sites , so if they saw them 3000 years ago and the puebloans saw them on our side of earth they must have been globe trotters Harlem Globe Trotters
Why don't you talk to the Dene` people? They can tell you all about the anasazi and where they are today and what the pictographs mean!!!!
If they knew, then the experts, many that are Native Americans, would know too. Whoever you talk to out there or reading in a book regarding petroglyphs, their meaning is basically a guess.

The panel looks suspiciously like a representation of the great flood story from the Hebrew Bible.
For instance: when Noah and his sons and all their wives left the ark and released the animals. Then the Creator made a covenant with Noah and sealed it with a rainbow. All nations seem to have known about these events in ancient times.

"Anasazi" has not been used for many years. It is a negative term and offensive to modern Puebloan peoples. The correct term for them is "Ancestral Puebloans."
Thanks for commenting. In my experience in the 4 corners area, Anasazi is still used very much. Before Anasazi was a "bad word", it meant, "the ancient one" or the "one that came before". But the Navajo refer to the term as "the enemy that came before". If you talk to the Hopi or Zuni, they will tell you that they were that enemy. Remember, they were there first. The Navajo came afterwards as immigrants from Canada. But they were much better negotiators with the US Gov't (i.e. Navajo Code Talkers) than the Hopi. So they get listened to more. I'm simply repeating what I learned at the Hopi Cultural Center on Second Mesa, a very worthwhile place to visit.

Yea, in my opinion, the "sticking up the pole" test could just be a coincidence, but it could be what the Natives were doing. It relates to what the Anasazi (or the people related to Chaco Canyon) were doing out at Chimney Rock National Monument, which was measuring the moon's position between two buttes.

This had nothing to do with the Navajo. Many people don't realize that the Navajo are from Canada and invaded the Hopi land around 1500, just before the Spanish arrived on the scene. The Fremont were before 1500.
