i watched every 2024 gti video on YT, still bought it because its the last year of manual. the infotainment is as easy as using your phone, nowhere near as complicated as any reviewers have complained about. the haptic steering wheel has been replaced with a wheel with buttons (the infotainment menu is a bit complicated at first but after 10 mins easy to navigate). the ride is incredibly smooth in eco mode and still forgiving while being very rigid in sport or custom (you can tune it past sport for more stiffness in the ride mode menu) the audio isnt complete garbage, but the bass gets a little distorted at very loud levels. theres a decent amount of wheel hop if you are really laying on the gas in early gears. torque steer is prevalent at high rpm accelerating out of corners, FAFO. having upgraded from a 2011 jetta 5spd this car is everything I wanted from a small car with enough juice to put a smile on your face. the exhaust pops sound nice and the turbo kicks in somewhere around 3k rpm. almost all the driver assistance options can be turned off. you can be civilized or a menace if you want with this car. If you want to drive fast maybe look into upgrading the brakes. seats are very comfy
Same here. The day I got it I set the temp to 68 and haven’t touched it since. CarPlay works flawlessly. The real genius part is the sunroof control as it’s way easier than my other cars.
I love mine so much, just over a month of ownership in. Great video, but there's something absolutely no video can convey: the feel of the little beast, I got the manual SE and I'm flipping delighted with my GTI.
I'm glad you touched on the cabin noise. Another reviewer in Ireland mentioned it. This vehicle seems to check all the boxes for me but the cabin noise is a deal breaker. I have a long commute and sometimes I just want quiet. Is the cabin noise that bad? Also how does cabin noise compare with the previous gen Golf?
It’s pretty quiet. There’s some fake pumped in noise. I was going to take mine to have it turned off, but ended up getting used to it. It’s just a computer setting that can be turned off by someone who knows how to do it
@ My husband has a Mercedes SUV with double glazing because he used to travel a lot and is sound sensitive He’s always amazed by how quiet my GTI is. Because even his special order Mercedes has a whine at the top of his SUV. So that says a lot.
@@katiecannon8186 Thanks for that feedback. Any issues with your GTI? I'm coming from mainly American and Japanese cars and they have all been great long term vehicles. How are these VW's in your opinion?
Me too, since I was in high school in the eighties. I bought a 380 se last month, plaid cloth seats. Killing the manual after ‘24 pushed me into a now or never mindset. Love it!
I have driven the new one today at a dealership. It was just as I expected, feels nearly identical to the MK8. They let me try a launch control, it's a tiny bit quicker but you'd hardly notice if you didn't know. Same top speed, still limited to 250km/h. It's absolutely not worth upgrading for those who have the MK8, but it's a bit cheaper so it might attract some MK7 owners.
Weird comment, if we're talking stateside the only material difference on '24 GTI's is the power folding mirrors. Otherwise we're just talking shuffling around options packages. The updated infotainment and new screen will be on the '25 model years, but you'll loose the option for a manual.
I feared you wouldn't be cute under the sunglasses, but you are, cool. If this was 2 doors with a VR6 and a manual transmission, I'd be in love. Best engine VW ever made; but we all have realized by now that VW doesn't care about its customers, they only care about shareholders.
We are in the generation where we are getting what we don't want, at a price that is more expensive, and also less convenient/intuitive features. gone are the days where the cars come with full size spares, handbrakes, manual transmission, intuitive functional buttons/knobs/switches, and high quality German paint, and also normal size wheels 17-18 inch wheels with reasonable sized sidewalls.
Toyota is giving us three sports cars with manuals. Subaru gives us two. VW is dropping the manual? And why can’t we get a TWO-DOOR GTI???? The four door looks boring.
@chuckcribbs3398 you can't get a 2 door because of poor sales, not worth their time. As for dropping the manual, that is a head scratcher as the take rate for the manual GTI is normally around 40% which is substantial, and for 2024 it went up to 50% because people know this is their last chance.
I own this exact car. An have owned every N car they make. You can change the cluster and customize it a bunch of was so the tach and boost are not like that. Even at its softest its still a bumpy ride at times. Close to the Kona N. i cant stand the fake nose pumped in. And you cant turn it off like you can in the N cars.
@@capitalistfreak7411 For me, there is just zero satisfaction in pressing a button for launch mode then putting your foot to the floor. It takes absolutely zero skill, anybody can do it. Boring. I prefer DRIVERS races.

why buy manual when you have gear shift on steer wheel😂. Generations are changing..
Vw has always had better drivability than most cars out there . So smooth and comfortable and really fun to drive .
So just so I understand for the 2025 models they are going back to nobs for volume, heat etc? (For Canada)

The major problem is the USA dealer network. Where are dealers willing to deal instead of gouge. $40k gti and VW will soon be bankrupt.
I just bought one. SE DCT and I love it. The Haptic stuff is ok, but I can adapt. The car rides great and feels like a luxury car. Great Review.

I’ve had mine for about one year. So far it’s been perfect.
No problems at all so far. (Knock on wood - lol)
Pro tip. Just press the shifter down again to put it into sport mode.
So many companies Ee doing away with a traditional shifter knob. No shifter knob is still a deal braker for me.

Mazda 3 turbo

Yes wait for 2025 refresh. VW fixes a lot of problems with the interior.
The answer is always yes
But then you have to worry about 1st year production model year so you’ll have to wait 2 years lol

Nine years on my 2016 with zero failures, just normal maintenance. I have been running a stage one tune for four years too.
Why does everyone emphasize the prop rod for hood? 😂
Because it had a gas strut before and it's a shame that VW cut costs and removed some quality of life features.
