I've been loving the new Rincon from Hoka. It's super cushioned, lightweight and comfortable - it's been great for all distances and workouts. Comparing to the new Clifton 6, what do you think about the new Rincon?
Ethan, just curious, have you ever put in more than 500-800 miles in any given shoe, just to see how it would hold up? Probably not a good idea to try it in the Rincon, but I've got a pair of Merrell Bare Access 4's that I've put in over 1000 miles in and they're still usable.
I have both the Clifton 6 and the Rincon. Best Clifton in many years. The Rincon is the shoe I’ve been dreaming of for those longer tempo/interval workouts. Goodbye Kinvaras!
Love the Rincon. PRs on my first run. I've noticed my legs feel fresher after longer runs. Tempo runs I can get moving faster. The wear on the sole is there but it hasn't affected my runs. Only 1 thing negative, I'm not sure if its the shoe or not, my achilles has been barking. It might be that I'm running harder/longer, which is more likely.
I also bought them on a whim after many reviewers added how wide they are for Hokas, and how pliable the upper is to accommodate your feet. There hasn't been a Hoka that fit my wider than avg. feet except for these, and the upper has indeed molded nicely to my feet after about 5 runs. Very glad I gave them a try. The exposed outsole shows wear the minute you take your first few steps in the Rincons but those small abrasions haven't changed even after 100 miles in them now.
I have had my Rincons since they came out and I have 1300 miles on them. The soles are completely gone but they still work good as minimalist barefoot shoes.
Your review was the deciding factor in my purchase of the Rincon. I put a hundred miles on them and love 'em so far. Going to buy another pair. Thanks!
Wife and I are getting into running. Have been hearing a lot of good things on this shoe. Have been trying on many different pairs of shoes on, but I have a strong feeling that this will be my 1st pair of running shoes!
(Rincon County in PR) Home to the famous Caribbean Surf Spot. Is located in the west coast of Puerto Rico. Famous for hosting The Annual Corona Beer Surfing Contest and many more. Also known for its beautiful Caribbean Sunset.
agreed most of your pros and cons. Rincon is my first HOKA. Ran ~60miles in it, love the cushion, fit is fine, but not perfect. The width is just wide enough for me, could be better if it is a little wider. Even at ~60 miles I see some pretty good worn down on the material. So I am not expecting it can last more than 200miles. With all the positives, I agreed with that I do feel my foot sinks in the center a little bit, but not a deal breaker. (I am a skinny and light guy) So I don't think it is related to the runner's size. Another con to me is the heel cup doesn't lock on my heel very well, as compared to my New Balance 1500t2, which just glues to my heel, the Rincon feels very loose on the heel. I think this is a design issue with HOKA. I also tried the carbon X at an event, the heel cup separates from my heel on every stride. I think that is because the very stiff carbon plate. So I like the shoe overall, but don't love it enough to buy another pair.
I'm kinda bummed. I bought four pairs of Clifton 1 rerelease about a half year ago, and have gone through three of them. I tend to supinate, and the EVO sole gets eaten away so quickly especially along the outer side where it's not protected by tread. I decided to save my last new pair for races only, and I have two other much more durable hokas for daily trainers for both the trails and road work.
I love these shoes. I have dubbed these shoes as my racing shoes. I tell people the shoe feels like I’m wearing socks with cushion. That’s how soft and light these shoes are.
I bought the Rincon a few months ago as my first pair of hokas and have loved them!! but at a bit under 200 miles started feeling that intense caving in of the foam in the middle and loss of life in the cushioning, so revisited this video- thank you for mentioning this issue so I know I’m not crazy 😂 Despite feeling like these need to be prematurely retired, I enjoyed them so much I’m thinking of picking up another pair
i am also a huge fan of the original Clifton. the Rincon is nice but the rocker is further forward (i think Altra wearers will love this shoe) and the shoe has less response for me...but since the C1 seems to be gone for good i will def buy another pair. thanks for the review!
This is my shoe of the year. I've ran 2 long trail races (forest roads, not super technical) and had fresh legs the whole time and set PR's for the races. I was initially concerned with wear but they have held up great so far...I have the Clifton 6 also and have been rotating them. I really like the new Clifton (lighter and wider) and I'm excited to wear these for fall and springs half marathons.
The toe box was too narrow for me as well. I loved the shoe and wanted it to break in, but it just crunches my toes together too much! Surprisingly- it was a pretty fast shoe for me. The nagging pain from the small toe box just spoiled it.
Rincon- also a popular surf spot just minutes south of Santa Barbara. Beautiful spot. I wonder if the shoe is similar to the Clayton. Can’t wait to try.
My Rincons have done over 1000 miles everything from 5k races to 15 miles. The outsoles are fine with a thin layer of Shoe goo on the soft bits and a nub on the high durability areas. The uppers are still perfect and I machine wash them every 14 days. 10/10!
Since I saw this shoe was coming out, I knew I had to get myself a pair. I liked them for rest day but also for some intervals. After using the Cavu, which midsole is a bit more hard, the Rincon felt really nice and I did not feel that narrow. Just hope they can hold for over 500km. Good review over all!
@@stefylo6881 I did try a bit on the trail and it was ok, but I would not rely if it´s too technical. Better on paved road or flat trail sections. The cushioning is great.
I tried it but had to send it back right away. The upper had too little stretch (if at all) and combined with the narrowness it was painful. My feet are not super wide but I have a larger stack height around my mid-foot.
Polite request for the Inov8 Terraultra 260! Also... I'm seeing some promotional shots of the new Skora lineup. Remember them? Although in the shots they're looking decidedly more Hoka and less Skora.
Australia surf spot? Can't find it on a map. Pretty certain that Rincón (riŋˈkōn) is from Spanish, meaning "a small secluded valley, an alcove or angular recess in a cliff". There is also a town in Puerto Rico named Rincón.
Rincon in my current rotation with NB Beacon 1 and Carbon X. Loving the Rincon, high wear, but hokas seem to last. I'm a 90+kg runner and no complaints in the midsole just yet
I tried the NB Beacon 2 having loved the first iteration. I didn't think it fit as closely as many reviewers seemed to so i returned the beacon 2 and went with the Rincon. Only at 50 miles with it so far but have been super duper happy each time i put them on. Seeing the same wear on the EVA (i'm just over 200lbs) but at that price, i'll take a shoe that does exactly what i want it to, can wear for almost any type of run, and fits my foot so well, even if it only goes for 200-250 miles.
Hi. Carl from the UK here. I've done about 70 miles in this shoe so far. It's a *good* shoe. At least as good as the Clifton 1. Like the original Clifton there is a trade-off, durability for all that cushioning at such a light weight. The sacrifice of longevity is worth it, in my view. Better to get 200-300 miles from a good shoe than 400 in a mediocre one. If they're watching, I hope Hoka actually *listen* and refrain from ruining the Rincon by adding extra weight, etc in updated versions. With all due respect to their design department, if they feel the need to justify their salaries - *JUST CREATE A NEW SHOE* Introduce new colours by all means but - if it ain't broke... ☺️
Been thinking of trying Hoka shoes. I'm used to skechers. I'm thinking of buying a shoe that lasts for a few years cause I'm a casual runner and dont do marathons at all. These might make me run more. I can never find a good inexpensive pair that ware out after a year or two of light running. I think I would splurge for this.
Huge fan of the Napali and was disappointed when they discontinued it. With that said, I got a a pair of these to try and I love them. Have a few pair of Napalis stored away that I will use to train and plan on using these for races.
I’m using both on these shoes right! I think they are a perfect compliment to one another. The Hoka is a great shoe for running long when I want cushion and the Beacon is great when I want something more responsive and quick.
The Rincon is in Southern California between Ventura and Santa Barbara. Like to see Hoka making a wider shoe for those of us who don't have a narrow foot.
I have had so many variations of Hoka's over the years and I completely agree with how the earlier versions just fit and felt right. The first two All Terrain Rascals were great then they sort of fell off the... path... (too cliche, I know) But they have redeemed themselves with the Speedgoats. Same goes with the Cliftons - early versions were better (1 & 2 great 3,4,5 not so great) I grabbed a pair of the Rincon just as they were released and really really liked them right out of the box. Overall fit and stance is perfect but totally agree with longevity and issues with too much mid-sole and not enough out-sole - a little more grip would really help and they can afford the additional weight gain. Great review as always and am looking forward to see what the Rincon 2 might morph into. And just for clarity sake, Santa Barbara has some epic trails but is also home to the best surf spot in SoCal and that is the ever popular Rincon Point.
Still not sold on this one. I've used both Bondi's and Clifton's. I find this too narrow and a bit harder with the cushioning. My favourite is still the Clifton 1 re-release.
Wow. Kinda reminds me of the old school kinvara’s. Gotta try these. Thanks for making me aware these shoes even exist and where they excel and where they don’t.
Thought I had actually found a Hoka that wasn't too narrow and that I could use! Unfortunately just as you said, DURABILITY caused me to return, 2 pair! My problem was the outsoke especially in the forefoot was completely destroyed after only 100 miles. The forefoot was completely exposed foam, and once it was exposed it wore even worse. Sent back after talking and they claimed defect, sent me a replacement pair and EXACTLY the same thing happened...all else good on the shoe though...
This shoe is awesome. I haven't seen that colour you have and I would love to get that. I ran a 1hr26min Half Mara PR in it and I had absolutely no issues (and had not broken 1hr30 prior). It's like a lighter Clifton but it will wear out quicker unfortunately, you're right on the durability. Still for what it produces most will fall in love with it as well.
@@cubadacub I'm 150 miles in and it runs like it did mile 1. The outsole foam is roughed up, but it doesn't seem to affect performance at all. I usually replace shoes ~400mi. Keep in mind, the challenger atr is a trail shoe and the rincon is exclusively a road shoe.
My personal favourite from the Hoka lineup that I have. Clifton 2 was the shoe for me, Clifton was 4 too heavy stiff and not enough cushion for ball of the foot. Then I tried Clifton 6 and Rincon on treadmill and Rincon was and is 👍🏻👌🏻⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Ethan, thanks again for another awesome review. I'm looking forward to getting a pair of the Rincons soon. So..... wondering if you'd be willing to do a show and tell of your shoe closet..... I suspect you must have a storage locker somewhere with all your shoes, both old and new (mentions he still has the OG clifton 1) :)
I just got a pair yesterday but I haven't run in them yet. I went through 6 pairs of the Napali, 3 pairs of the Clifton 3 and 2 pairs of the Clifton 1, so this better serve as a worthy replacement.
I’m really happy with this shoe. Super comfortable! I only have about 50 miles on mine, but I’ve worn them for tempo runs and long runs and they have been awesome for both. I’m concerned about the durability as well, but only time and miles will tell.
8.5oz isn't super light these days, but it's a step in the right direction for Hoka. I think their "racing" shoes aren't much under 8oz while many other companies offer sub 6oz. Too bad they couldn't add a bit more outsole coverage for durability on the Rincon, I'd be tempted to buy it if they did.
i bought these shoes from the Hoka website and got them delivered today. I must say, after running a 10k in them my calfs were on fire! the shoe is light and cushioned but i prefer the Clifton 6s by far.
Why you have not reviewed any of UA HOVR line. I was skeptical of UA making a decent running shoe at first but after trying the HOVR line more than a year ago, I switched and still like them very much. Give them a go.
Good review, i am like you size 11 , what is your weight ? I also rotate 2 to 4 pairs when I like a certain model . Making sure to know exactly how many miles are on them .
So the bigger question for the Ginger is, the Rincon or a re-release of the Clifton 1? If you could only have one of the two for the rest of your life, which is it brother?
Does this fit similar to the Speedgoat Evo? Not bought a Hoka road shoe but big fan of the Speedgoat Evo and want a good tempo road shoe and this looks like it fits the bill.
Signed up for my very first marathon. Would these be a good choice? I’m a neutral runner and a solid middle of the pack half marathon runner. Advice is greatly appreciated (only been running in Brooks Ghost 11 & Pegasus 34s)
hey Ginger Runner, great review. I have a question. I'm a heavy person, 97 kg, and I use a stability shoe now. I'm a neutural runner. Do you think the Rincon is a hsoe for the more heavy runner, like me? or would you suggest an other Hoka shoe? thnx for all the great reviews.
Did anyone start to develop an injury with this shoe? I bought a pair and started developing ITBS on my right side after about 3 or 4 runs in them. Not sure if it is the shoe (the way my foot lands/might putting extra stress on one side) or if it just an overuse injury? Haven't been able to run in them as much as I have wanted to buy they have been great for walking. Really great shoe! However, be prepared how much wear will be on the shoe after a handful of runs.
I've had this midsole collapse issue on the Bondi 6 although I am 62kg. Are the Bondi 6 and the Rincon comparable in that regard? I am hoping the Rincon to be less subject to this problem. Thanks for your answers ;)
OMFG OMFG OMFG THIS IS ETHAN NEWBERRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHAAAAAAT!!!!!!! I THOUGHT HE REMOVED HIMSELF FROM TH-cam AND I'M SO CONFUSED BUT SO DAMN EXCITED TO SEE HIM AGAIN!!!! I miss your old videos and wish I could watch them still. Especially the bug song and the volcano song, those were on repeat for so long.)
I tried it and got worry about how narrow it was since I still use my Napali and love them. They did feel amazing. Hopefully one day we can see a Napali 2
i'm from Indonesia, i just want to ask if i fit with this rincon or clifton 6. i had a wide toe and my shoes was nike pegasus 35 size 11 US/ 45 UE. it is ok to buy this rincon or clifton 6 same size as my nike? or do i must try the wide version of clifton or rincon? honestly i prefer / like the clifton 6 :). thanks for info later
I have wider than avg. feet and these are the first Hokas that have a toebox I can live with. The platform is quite wide (broader than the GRR7, which are the most similar shoes to the Rincon) and the upper expands quite a bit after 2-3 runs. Now, at about 100miles in they are very comfortable. Many reviewers noted that the fit got much better after a couple runs.
Arch support is not as high as Clifton. I don’t have high arches and always found the Clifton to bother me out of the box. Rincon was perfect for arch support out of the box.
@@ThomasTiotto Definitely running smaller. I usually go by JPN sizes since they use length in cm. I have both the GRR7 and Rincons in 28.5cm which translates to a EU44 for the Skechers, and 44 2/3 for the Rincons. Funnily enough, they're both US10.5. The Rincons offer just a tad less wiggle room, especially when you consider the option to take out the 2mm drop insole of the Skechers, freeing up more space, and converting them to a less squishy 4mm trainer.

Is it the same shoe at 1:15? Color seems more blue or is it just how the light makes it look green everywhere else on the video?
Love your reviews!
Love the Rincon. PRs on my first run. I've noticed my legs feel fresher after longer runs. Tempo runs I can get moving faster. The wear on the sole is there but it hasn't affected my runs. @@cubadacub to each their own, I suppose. I don't see this shoe making it that far, but I do see it performing very well through 300-400 miles.
Finally gave the ppl what they want! Shoe of the year!!
Yes!!!!! I do love running in both Hoka One One Rincon and Clifton 6!!!!! Definitely my go-to running shoes. Thank you for sharing👍😊🏃
I hated the obtrusive arch support in the Clifton 6, Is the Rincon the same?
I just got a pair yesterday but I haven't run in them yet. I went through 6 pairs of the Napali, 3 pairs of the Clifton 3 and 2 pairs of the Clifton 1, so this better serve as a worthy replacement.
I’m really happy with this shoe. Super comfortable! I only have about 50 miles on mine, but I’ve worn them for tempo runs and long runs and they have been awesome for both. I’m concerned about the durability as well, but only time and miles will tell.
Hey! How about the durability of the Rincon? The upper still good? My Hoka Challenger atr5´s upper ripped after 500km :-(
8.5oz isn't super light these days, but it's a step in the right direction for Hoka. I think their "racing" shoes aren't much under 8oz while many other companies offer sub 6oz. Too bad they couldn't add a bit more outsole coverage for durability on the Rincon, I'd be tempted to buy it if they did.
rincon is in Puerto Rico
i bought these shoes from the Hoka website and got them delivered today. I must say, after running a 10k in them my calfs were on fire! the shoe is light and cushioned but i prefer the Clifton 6s by far.
Puerto Rico Surf spot! Please check the Hoka website for the description.
Just got this shoe this week. Has overtaken the NB Beacon as my favorite.
In Spanish Rincon means "corner". 😉
Why you have not reviewed any of UA HOVR line. I was skeptical of UA making a decent running shoe at first but after trying the HOVR line more than a year ago, I switched and still like them very much. Give them a go.
Rincon is also a famous surf spot in California near Santa Barbara !!!
Good review, i am like you size 11 , what is your weight ? I also rotate 2 to 4 pairs when I like a certain model . Making sure to know exactly how many miles are on them .
Great review. Great shoe. Rincon’s a surf spot in Cali though my friend. 😎
Rincon is my surname and you pronounce it very well.
Got the Rincon and love them to bits.
Love this shoe so far and also the Clifton 6! I think this will be my marathon shoe
Never mind the Rincon. (might get a pair) which are the wider, the evo speedgoat or the evo mafate 2
YAAAASSSS 😩🙌
Just bought a pair with your discount for $86.00, can’t wait to lace up.👍🏽👟👟👟👟👟👟👟
Been waiting on this review! Thanks. Eyeballing this shoe for marathon shoe.
The insole is very thin. I hope they put a thicker one in the next version.
Awesome vid man!! Really well put together! So informative.
If you think hokas run narrow please try some of their non-narrow shoes like the Bondi!!
Which shoe, this or the new balance fuelcell rebel??
I CLICKED TO CHECK OUT ANOTHER REVIEW OF THE HOKA'S AND THEN REALIZED IT'S FREAKING ETHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(Edit: context: idk if anyone else remembers Ethan's freaking hilarious videos from years and years ago. But holy crap I am so freaking stoked to see Ethan again and it's so weird to see him reviewing running shoes and doing running channel things lol wut. ETHAN! YOU'RE THE MAN! I miss your old videos and wish I could watch them still. Especially the bug song and the volcano song, those were on repeat for so long.)
Will this shoe work for an amateur who runs 4-5 times per week for 3 miles? Not a pro so I’m not sure if it’s too much or just right, thank you.
Hey GR, what's better for running a half-marathon (11 min pace) Rincon or Carbon X?
OMG, I might have finally found my first pair of Hokas!😍🤩😍🤩😍🥳🥳🥳
How durable is the shoe? Can I get 350-400 miles before replacing?
Rincon vs Napali? Is Rincon wider up front? Seem close to the same shoe. Hoping soooo......
Gotta try Rincon
Actually, the name is based on Rincon, Puerto Rico
When I saw this shoe announced, I was so excited. Seems to fit the realm of the Clifton one In terms of weight and feel
Thanks Ginger im going to give em a try.
Are they any good for treadmill/indoor use?
I've waited so long for this one!
Might buy these for the treadmill days to save on wear n tear....
In your opinion Carbon X vs Rincon, which will be your choice?
I tried it and got worry about how narrow it was since I still use my Napali and love them. They did feel amazing. Hopefully one day we can see a Napali 2
They just need to keep making the Napali and not change a thing. Luckily I just found a pair on eBay.
Rincon is just south of Santa Barbara, CA! Sorry, not Aussie :(
No, the one referred to by the shoe Company is located in Puerto Rico, as stated in their website.
hey guys, how about durability of the Rincons? I ran 600km in my HOKA Challenger ATR5 and already have massive holes in the shoe´s upper!! ...
i'm from Indonesia, i just want to ask if i fit with this rincon or clifton 6. i had a wide toe and my shoes was nike pegasus 35 size 11 US/ 45 UE. it is ok to buy this rincon or clifton 6 same size as my nike? or do i must try the wide version of clifton or rincon? honestly i prefer / like the clifton 6 :). thanks for info later
Too narrow for me and if I went up a size, it would have been too long. A bit disappointing as I was looking forward to this shoe.
What's the arch support like in the Rincon? Tried the Clifton 6 but that arch support was PAINFUL 😬
Arch support is not as high as Clifton. I don’t have high arches and always found the Clifton to bother me out of the box. Rincon was perfect for arch support out of the box.
@@phl0w666 How do they fit compared to the GRR7? Same size?
@@ThomasTiotto Definitely running smaller. I usually go by JPN sizes since they use length in cm. I have both the GRR7 and Rincons in 28.5cm which translates to a EU44 for the Skechers, and 44 2/3 for the Rincons. Funnily enough, they're both US10.5. The Rincons offer just a tad less wiggle room, especially when you consider the option to take out the 2mm drop insole of the Skechers, freeing up more space, and converting them to a less squishy 4mm trainer.
How is the fit compared to the Clifton?
I need a touch more arch support or else my left ankle starts killing me. How are the arches in these?
