That's not a vampire fish, that's a lamprey. Vampire fish are small transparent mfs. Lamprey are scavengers.
Isn’t the Lamprey technically a living fossil
Also the whole "vampire fish will swim into your urethra" is a fucking myth from like the early 2000s. It's literally impossible.
Yeah, sea lampreys can latch onto humans, they just can’t drink our blood. They mostly drink fish blood.
The vampire dish is a condru fish and will do these if you look up vampire fish you get a picture of a lamprey so do not say thing like this a condru can and will swim up a man’s urethra or a woman’s uterus

The "Vampire fish" shown is actually a lamprey, which is harmless to humans. Lamprey don't even live within the Amazon, they live throughout North america where they use their strange mouths to latch on to other fish and suck their blood. Vampire fish are an actual fish species found in the Amazon, however, they are not a species of catfish and do not mutilate your reproductive organ. The species of fish he describes here, the Candiru, is a small species of catfish that lives in the Amazon and is RUMORED to swim up the male reproductive organ, they are also called the Toothpick fish or Vampire fish, however, the previously mentioned Vampire fish is an entirely different species than the Candiru.
Thank u I’ve been trying to explain this to every one else and. It’s not. Rumored it’s true
It’s good people have been quick to point out this blatant misinformation
@@musiew683 Thank you!
Thank you! I'm very annoyed by the misinformation in this video concerning the candiru.
I was more concerned when he said TEN FISH
Btw the Vampire Fish is more or less bull. There’s only been one alleged attack, and it does NOT look like a Lamprey.
Like I said the vampire fish in not a lamprey it just pulls up a pic of a lamprey and a condru is a real fish that will swim up your body parts 😊
@@Skeez810 who tf are u?
And also, yes it’s a real fish, NO it will not swim up your body parts, unless you are eating something upside down
@@ASlickNamedPimpbackWhat are you talking about? They never said I wasn’t a real fish. And the Candiru does swim up your urethra.
@@ASlickNamedPimpbackits a candiru and they look nothing like lamprey
@@RuhRohRaggy8 I was just affirming that while its a real fish, it does not swim up urethras. The only case with any backing is shaky, at best.

Worth mentioning that the Vampire fish/Candiru section is incorrect. Candiru are indeed catfish and have spines, but they don't look like eels or have concentric circles of teeth. The photograph in the section is actually of a lamprey, which does have these features, but lampreys are much larger, don't attack prey in this way, and don't have backwards-facing spines. Instead, they latch on to the outside of their prey - usually larger fish - and use their teeth to bore into their victim's flesh.
"Why don't you ever leave Europe?"
"Hahaha no thanks. I like being healthy."
no bullshit, no intro, straight to the point. amazing
The first parasite is bs though. The imahes shown are those of a lamprey who is harmless, the actual parasite is named candiru.
but no sign up and no credit card, 4/10 would not recommend.
the vampire fish one is bs though. the fish hes talking about is actually called a candiru, and the pictures shown are lampreys. its physically impossible for a candiru to do that and even if it did itd die within a minute of being inside of you.
super creepy, extremely interesting evolutionwise.
Biologist (entomologist/arachnologist) here, and sorry.. I really don't want to be mean, I actually really like your videos, but I just can't help but correct some points.
Already the first one, the author mixed up things dramatically. The unfamously known fish attracted by the ammonium in pee and capable of entering your urethra are Candiru. Small species of catfish. Also this actually happens extremely rarely and the specimens doing so a very small.
The images (and sketch) though show Lamprey's. These are way bigger (120 cm (47 in) and not(edit: "real fish" but) "jawless fish". It is again very rare, but possible, that they attach to humans. They are not attracted by ammonium.
Both animals may be called "Vampire fish" in the vernacular, hence the obvious confusion.
And I'm not wanting to be mean, but IF you are putting out this content (which can be very interesting), it might be a good idea to make a detailed fact check. The more so when dealing with somewhat lurid themes. And I'm aware that does not necessarily come natural to non-professionals, but the scientific names really can help to avoid confusion.
You did that even in this video, so you can do it.
Sandflies, and once more, vernaclar name referring to several pretty distinct families/species.
"Fun" fact about the sandflies aka Phlebotomidae=Leishmania parasites vector, foreign soldiers in the Iraquian war actually were badly surprised be these little critters. They simply had been completely ignorant of their existance and the issues they could cause on the troups (in contrary to the native opponents of course). The military had to adapt and find a solution to protect the soldiers.
Phlebotomes are actually very bad fliers, so about 1/2 meter nets around the bases did the job quite well. Also why bites occur mostly on the feet and lower legs.
Toxoplasma is a protozoan of microscopic size. I might be a little nitpicking here, put choosing a worm as image could be misleading.
That aside, extremely fascinating parasite that, just as you said, without any other issue, can have an influence on your risk taking behavious. Studies have found that the percentage of people carrying the parasite is higher in those engaging in extreme sports relative to the average population.
Toxoplasma btw does the same to mice. They get bolder, less fearful and are more prone tapproach cats instead of avoiding them. Which of course benefits the parasite, which wants to end up in the cat's body.
and also botflys aren't really deadly unless they're in a really unfortunate spot.

Apparently gongylonema pulchrum infections are incredibly rare, only 50 worldwide infections since 1850 and some case studies have shown the worms infesting the mouth rather than the throat is more common but both do happen. I wouldn't worry about it though, so no need to lose sleep tonight

Honestly bot flies would be my first choice of parasite if I was to get one, mostly cuz the larvae are prone to bacterial infections so they secrete a natural antibiotic keeping the wound clean. They also mature after a couple months leaving you with almost no damage other than needing therapy.

Not pork tapeworm, i oftenly eat cooked pork and never get sick of the worm.
Cooking food kills any tape worms. That’s also one of the massive reasons we cook food
Yeah.
I'm never cooking pork below well-done.
Imagine you can just tell the loa loa "hey, you in my eye, scootch a little, I can't see" and the worm be like "my bad bro" and move aside so it won't interfere with your eyesight
Would you find any of these in California San Diego maybe or LA
Of course I come across this while procrastinating studying for my Parasitology class. Lots of bangers here, Trypanosoma brucei would've been a great addition too
For those not seeing the pattern, stagnant water is a breeding ground for all insects and infections, like mosquitos
If you see stagnant water from say a bucket or your dogs water bowl, pour it out every day and either turn it over or wash and refill it
And obviously don’t drink from puddles

Quick question, I thought botfly laid eggs only on wounds etc. but... it seems it can be anywhere? Also, I had one on the top of my head once when I was a kid, and my boyfriend did also. It's not rare at all here. It was a horrible throbbing pain, but it resolves quite quickly.
oh..yea no i’ll off my shelf.
Paralysis ticks hurt like hell. I live on the north coast of NSW Australia and been host to many of those little bastards.. it's like a little itch and as soon as you scratch it's like a red hot blunt nail Going through you but through your whole body.. and that's before they engorge themselves and release the really nasty venom.. I've never had one get to that point but just the initial bit and it's a miserable experience.
The fact my legs are itching right now
You got the vampire fish part wrong. What you were trying to show was the candiru.
These deadliest parasites are a stark reminder of the hidden dangers lurking in nature, from the excruciating pain of vampire fish attacking in Amazon waters to the terrifying reality of brain-eating amoebas in stagnant ponds.
