Thanks so much for this video! I live in Australia and am currently trying to understand WeChat, partly because we get a lot of Chinese tourists at my work who use the app, but mainly for my own business. It's crazy how much you can do through this app! I had no idea haha

This is a disgusting APP! I have a Chinese friend studying in Europe, she told me she was speaking on the Chinese WeChat app about human rights in China, some silly point that there are no human rights in China because the government is blocking them from flying back due to Coronavirus or some silly point like that. The police turned up at her parents home in China threatening them and said that her daughter has to stop speaking like that. So WeChat is sending data of its users in Europe to the police in China which then they use to threaten their families in China. China makes me SICK!

I am British and for about 7 years I have been using QQ to keep in touch with Chinese friends- it has some good features like Q Zone but everyone asks me if I have a WeChat account- I am now buying my first Smartphone in order to download it (On a laptop it seems to be very slow and take up a lot of space) as I am going back to China in a fortnight. I am not very technically-savvy so I hope it is easy to use.

I've had WeChat for like a month and already I have had my account blocked three times for no reason. It is nearly impossible to unblock it without having a person in your contacts do it for you.
Hope u understand that WeChat is taking care of some of the banking functions and it has HIGHHHHHH level of security.
Wechat has high level of security . If you'll add someone be careful (limit it) just based on my experienced . If you don't know the person whose gonna talk to you and add you be careful again- they might report your acc. if they find you boring based from my experienced 😧. Stop changing password frequently or even log out your account. If someone unfriend you then just click add friend ( JUST ONCE) because if you do it twice your account will be block and the reason is harassment. Same situation like you 😧

Man the closest thing to we chat here in the US, is Facebook messenger. But I hate Facebook and barely use it. I wish we had another company come in to do this.

Pretty much all the things she mentioned is regularly used, ordering food is not so regular, but I do use in Macca's and KFC, cos don't want to get in line standing, so basically chatting and all the payment stuff are the basic function of Wechat, like shopping, eating, paying daily bills, and buying tickets, even my parents are using them a lot.

All very true but you forgot a few. Wechat can turn on your camera and microphone without your knowledge, search your pictures for known faces/locations, of course records all your messages and best of all it's acceptable by the government or anyone with the cash. I use a dummy phone for Wechat only, the camera is blocked, gps is disabled along with the mic. Just some things to keep in mind, especially if you're feeling lonely and try that shake trick

Best way is not to use wechat . WhatsApp is blocked in China because is not muniterinised by Chinese government. What means they can trace every chat in Europe or USA. And Chinese government loves that. And it's a copy of WhatsApp with plus. And a copy of tinder with stupid shaking options

WeChat has blocked me for no damn reason. No damn reason at all. Funny enough, I am not the only one who has been experiencing this. A lot of my friends (who are also Americans and some Canadians or Mexican I.E; North Americans) have been blocked for "suspicious activity" after signing off and back in. Just weird.
