Review of Giwil folding automatic umbrella

This umbrella arrived just in time for the forecast of prolonged heavy rain making it the ideal time for thorough testing..
It is well made, feels sturdy and operation is simple. Press the up arrow on the non-slip moulded hand grip and the umbrella shoots up creating a 105cm canopy of protection from the rain for one or two users and is supported by 10 ribs sturdy rather than the usual 8-ribs found on most similar brollies in this price range.
It has proven effective in sheltering me from the heavy, driving rain we encounter rather too often on the Welsh borders and has stood up to gusty wind although I haven't yet been able to test it in stronger gales, but certainly it performs as well as any other umbrella I've used, including those at more than twice the price of this Giwil model.It's compact for carrying measuring a mere 30 x 5cm and weighs 465 grams. Thanks to its Teflon coating, rain tends to bead and run off the fabric rather than soak into it making it quick-drying. I wish all umbrellas were like this to avoid the need for overnight drying and airing in the bath...
A lined case is also included so following use it can be given a quick shake to remove the beads of rainwater then popped into a bag or briefcase while at work without drenching the bag's contents.
Taking down the umbrella involves simply pressing the down-arrow button then pushing the body of the umbrella towards the hand grip until it clicks securely into place.
I can't fault the umbrella and feel it offers good value for its £9.99 price.
