  • Following years of manual winching, we bit the bullet and ordered this portable powered winch mostly for hauling saturated logs from our stream up a steep bank and uphill across a 2 acre meadow. It has made very light work of every task it's been used for, including also hauling a vehicle out of a roadside ditch. It is about five times as fast as manual winching and involves minimal user effort and, although expensive, it has paid for itself several times over in firewood alone. Build quality is excellent along with reliability due to its Honda GXH50 CC 4-stroke engine, but keep on top of oil changes. Couldn't recommend it more highly for woodworking and forestry applications combined with the skidding cone shown in the video and of course a few snatch blocks.

What's the capacity on the eye hook on the winch?

Would the winch have been able to pull that last log up on a single part of line? I’m considering buying one but I want to make sure it has enough snot to do the work. I’m primarily interested in single line capacity where it is working hard but not in danger of stalling. Thanks a million!

It has just winched about 2 tonnes of logs up a 45 degree bank. It's brilliant!

@@klwsproductreviews6148 I've since bought one and it's done a lot of work. Definitely a must have piece of kit!

You can get a vevor 3 ton lever hoist and weld a socket onto the drive part and use a dewalt 60volt right angle drill to power it,the chains come at a max length of 20ft and they will scull drag a medium size truck with all wheels locked single line of chain and the lever blocks cost about $200,you need to pull the back case off and grease the gears up as the drill spins it all very fast,iv had one for 4 years now and have used it in my tree Buisness flat out I reckon it pulls more than 3 Ton to be honest

What happens when you over load the winch will the rope slip on the drum or can you break the unit. I just had my Lewis winch snap two gears because it was overloaded with no safety!!

In my limited experience (I have used mine twice) the unit simply stalls when you overload it. It is going to take a little practice to determine its capabilities but so far I am pleased with it.

If mine gets overloaded, it bogs down.
