- We’ve put our wheel time in on the Traxxas TRX-4 and of course had the camera recording as we went trail hopping looking for different terrain to test our truck on. We took the TRX-4 on a scenic adventure on the top of a mountain in a beautiful part in CT, then for a stroll through some fields, followed by a splash session in a creek and finally we… well you’ll have to see what our last challenge for the TRX-4 was in the video. This video is more than just action, we wrap it up with our overall impressions of the trail truck that many are saying is the best release of 2017. It is? Nice review. I would have liked you spend more time talking about the diff lock options. It makes this truck unique. Driving open diff is so cool. Attacking obstacle with it is so challenging. You appreciate to be able to switch to locked diff on a click on the remote controler. Like driving a 1:1 Rubicon or other full equipped truck.
Also the frame is very rigid and well designed. Turning ration is great. Portal axles are a luxury option in real world and it is included in the package here in this Traxxas!
We got plenty for our money in this truck.

I have the 2s lipos and I was getting 8 miles per hour on my TRX 4. I don't have the 3 cell lipo so I have no idea at that point. I also love this freaking truck!
I have the axiel Wraith Spawn,build it your self kit. I saw this at the hobby shop,and its still on my list to buy. I like the crawlers,a good excuse to get out and walk.

This is the Xmas present to myself for 2018. I just want to paint it Land Rover traditional green color and hook up a homemade overlander teardrop trailer for trailblazing realism. I might make it my flagship ride of the collection.

Starting to think I might enjoy one of these. I'm not sure I'd use the 2-speed or unlocking diffs too often, but it does seem like a good scale platform to build off of. Good review!

This is the first review of yours that I watched and I loved it. These other comments about sounding like a paid review/promotion for Traxxas sound like idiots to me but I will add that maybe the music could be a little lower on the volume but overall it was excellent and you hit the points clearly and honestly in my opinion. You mentioned what you get for you money but didn't mention the cost of this setup which would be nice to know. Thanks for doing this review and I subscribed because of this video too. Oh how does some mud?

Great video. Was the first location at lovers leap in new Milford? The other location I noticed was happy landings in Brookfield which I live near by. I will be taking mine and my brothers trx4's very soon to these trails. The river down rt. 7 is also really nice.

Traxxas does have some other less expensive models and they are water resistant.
Just wondering how you are holding the camera on the selfie pod and still able to use the remote controller. I've been trying to come up with ways to make it easier for me. Any tips?

I was watching your other videos, what do you prefer the trx4 or the scx10ii? I'll be making a purchase in this next week or so between the two.
It's hard to pick a favorite. The TRX4 is great for all around RC fun. It tends to be a bit top heavy so keep it in mind if you do get it and go crawling. The SCX10II is built for serious trail driving and works great right out of the box. There is lots of aftermarket support for the SCXII and its improving quickly for the TRX4.
RCDriver_Online Yeah I just want to play with something fun, I'm new to the hobby. Does the axial have automatic locking differentials like the TRX4? And throttle adjustment? I'm not really looking for the ultimate crawler, just turn on and miniature 4x4.

I've seen some of your videos. Your really helpful. My gf and I are about to buy a home and I'll finally have space to buy one of these and get into it. I've always been a fan. I do have a couple questions. I'm going road because I'll be mainly on street or parking lots. What brand or model would you recommend? Is there different style of body's u can attach to these cars or they come set with one? Also, I've seen a video where u recommend electric for beginners. So I know it'll be electric just curious on brands. Thank you!!
Great you are getting into the hobby! The new Traxxas 4-Tec 2.0 is a pretty cool on-road machine. They also offer a Rally car if you want both on-road performance or flat off-road/dirt fun.

looks like a good trail run but I had to skip .the music ruined it why is there any need to play music .for me it's about the rig n it's performance.ton of vids where I turn volume down .but I rather hear the rig in motion thats music to my ears ..

What's the battery life like on these rcs I had a Kyosho Optima 4wd, chain drive back in 1990 and the battery lasted like 5 minutes
Oh, we're way past the old school 5 minute run days. Many cars can run 15,20, 30 minutes on a LiPo pack. Some trail trucks can run for hours.

I got a 7650 and I cant run it out! Not running all day, but makes an awesome change from the old days when (whatever the mah was..) the bastard would run out in 10mins. Still, I loved that old Tamiya Grasshopper. After that was one of the first Traxxas buggies :)
Play at half speed, looks so much better and closer to real.
Except for when the dude is starting talking again, then he just sounds drunk... :-P

What gear was you crawling in?
I was messing around with all of the gear and differential settings while driving it in this video.
RCDriver_Online cool but as an expert what would be best?
It all depends on what you are driving on. Open flat terrain, unlock the diffs and use high gear. For rough crawling, lock the diffs and use low gear. It's all selectable on the fly so you can adjust the truck as you go.

If they Had done there research they would have known people who like scale trucks do not like stick on windows and for the price of a weeks wages they could have masked them before painting but then they would not sell a few thousand extra clear shells I guess?

shorty 1995 mine does wheelies with the Titian 12t but like the 25t can do donuts but slow enough to still crawl for a fraction of the price of any Traxxas

That truck looks cool.... but it is way to slow. My Axel Yetti can do the same thing and is 100X faster.

I have over 30 RC's I'm a sponcered racer for hobbywing and Team Associated. Also have the new by far best basher the Redcat tr-MT8E Be6s way funner then my Xmaxx. When it comes to crawling it's more about just chillin with your friend out camping or compition and making it your own. So don't knock till you try it cause I thought I would hate it clear back before they made short course truck's in to racing circuit. It's actually super cool to just hang drink some beer and hang with your friends and crawl around. Also I don't have to roll my 3 real Jeep's to just enjoy check out Axialfest 2017 in Lake Tahoe my home town crawling is great. Oh By the way I have the Losi Rock Rey that would tear both your trucks a new one one on 3s

This really seemed like a sponsored review from traxxas wether it was or wasn't you should disclose that in your video the fact that you didn't makes me believe it was sponsored people want to see unbiased reviews listing true pros and cons the only con you made was about the body , how about this truck has 4 that's rite 4 servos blacked out windows which gives you no opportunity to add an interior, a two gear trans that is over kill and will never be used unlockable diffs who wants that its a completely useless feature (it helps you turn sharper ) bravo here's two extra servos for that . I personally think the trucks nice but you really sounded very biased in this review and need to be honest with consumers that are counting on you to provide a review that will sway their decision on a very expensive purchase
Agreed bad review please be REAL use your own thought when reviewing the part of the video where you RISKED breaking the truck by submerging it under water. You only risked it because you were given the rig for free from Traxxas to give them a positive review. Thumbs down
Hi Fabio, Traxxas did not pay for this review. The truck was given to us, and was made known in some other videos we've done on the truck and TH-cam Cards were placed in this video directed to those other videos. But the review here is unbiased and I'm guessing that the 294 likes vs 16 dislikes at the time of this response back up the credibility of the review. I address other cons within this review, they were the limits of the servo, the pricing and the high CG and I even showed the truck having problems with the servo and CG. The thing here is I am reviewing the product for its intended buyer. With over 20 years of reviewing products under my belt and being a part of the RC industry, I understand the target audience of products. Traxxas spends millions of dollars a year at Nascar events, drag events, moto-cross events and so on. All to get the new person into the hobby. This new person wants "neat features" and general useability and the locking diffs offer that versatility. Is it unnecessary for the experienced trail truck driver? Yes. But the focus for Traxxas is getting people into RC with a good experience wherever they use their RC so they can continue in the hobby. We took that into consideration when choosing the direction of this review. All of our reviews; Tamiya, ProLine, Arrma, Duratrax, Losi... are positioned to speak to the intended buyer of the product. We have more plans for the TRX-4 including modifying the truck for use within the hands of the experienced hobbiest and will will address the removal of parts we feel are unnecessary at that time. When it comes down to it, I'm a fan of the truck as is. Again, with over 20 years in reviewing products and having a website over 14 years old, getting free products means nothing to us. But providing valuable information for viewers and readers is and is really what allows us to keep doing what we do. If you don't like our style, I'm not offended and I do appreciate you taking the time to share your opinion. TH-cam is full of great creators that may speak better to your specific RC needs. Agreed. I still think that the RC4WD Landrover Defender 110 is the best scale RC model.
There should be a clear disclaimer in the beginning or in the text under the video that you didn't pay for the rig.
Did you drive this rig? I do. And I enjoy most of it with unlocked diffs! It is so more manoeuvrable ! Also makes obstacles more challenging, locking the diffs as a last resources only. It transforms any trail in a more action scale trail.
