To be honest, toru is a pretty talented driver, he only flipped his car doing that because his car had hard suspension while the AE86 has a soft suspension. Just look at the tires as thry pull off the move and you can see it.

weight distribution is a huge thing too if you don't place your weight right you will crash like this guy on top of that, all vehicles are not in theory capable of this due to their size weight power Etc.
Also the AE86 has a very high revving racing engine at this point of the show, which allows it to distribute more force to the rear wheels at higher rev ranges than the miata engine can even dream of doing, which in turn would make the front wheels have less force in those ranges, there's probably more detail to it than that, but that's the edge the AE86 has with its racing engine vs the miata to be able to do these techniques.
Welp. There's your explanation. Nothing more can be said that'd actually be important as to why the miata couldn't do what the AE86 did. It's not even a skill gap, tbh. Their cars are just setup really differently, and Bunta is literally a GOD of motorsports tuning and handling. 🤷♂️

Theres this technique on where you(specifically your front inner wheel) can glide over gaps mid drift if youve got enough speed.
