- Chinese fans has thousand years of history. Master Wang Jian is the representative transmitter of UN intangible cultural heritage in the field of handmade fans. We had opportunity to see the process of fan making art.

I have always had a fascination with fans!
wow this is fascinating! i've never really given much thought to fan art before.. but wow this really opened my mind! thanks! how do you guys always do/see such amazing things?!
Wang's fan has now a new meaning.
Here I am, thinking there were only something like 2 kinds of fans, and this man blows my mind with just the first fan he shows. He's like Willy Wonka or something
Thank you for this amazing experience! The artwork was so delicate and the information about fan making was fascinating. Thank your for sharing.
Thank you! Very interesting and informative video!
Wonderful!
长知识了,原来有这么多花样的扇子,谢谢上传
I would have thought the fans were painted before being folded. I wish we had seen the painting and folding of the fans.
Some are painted before folded. But mostly are not.

How to buy a Wang fan? Are they sold online or does one need to visit him in China?
Wang Jian王健 is not a prolific artist. There are only 10 pro-famous fans each year, and the design of each fan needs to be considered for a long time. Having been doing the art for more than 30 years, his own satisfactory works are only about 100.
In recent years, the price of the Suzhou folding fan made by Wang Jian has reached a new high in the auctions, the highest has exceeded 200,000 yuan.
@@blueheronarts yes it's a lot of money. So his new fans are always sold at auction in China?
@@malthus101 I think so. Here is a book about him in Chinese on Amazon amzn.to/2C2PqTl
I would like to know what kind of paper did they use for folding fans, if it is a traditional or a modern one. Has it laid and chain like in calligraphy paper?
.Traditional Chinese rice paper. Not sure about your second question.
I go to the local art store where they sell many papers , various designs, many textures , different thicknesses . I want to make a fan from papyrus once I get better skilled .
Fans are fun to make.!
Chinese are so practical
Aaah! ...... mmmmm!
6:36 holy shit shouldn't y'all wearin a pair of gloves for that
