Last visit there 1960is got a ride to London road (Piccadilly) station in cab of either royal Scot or Scot’s guardsmen ! The “real” days of train spotting 😀

Wow. Thanks for sharing that wonderful memory. I only remember it from the late 70s but it was pretty good then too. Thanks for watching 👀

The last time I saw most of those places at Longsight MPD was in steam days, back in about 1960. I tried to envisage where the turntable was, without success, and the coaling plant. The silent rows of carriages in the sidings between Hyde Road and the sheds themselves. I remember the first shed being erected for the new AC electrics, and being invited in to see the first brand new electric loco, E3001, delivered that day. Thanks for the journey down memory lane - the shed's still there but nothing remains. Even the approach with its row of terraced houses has gone.

Remember visits late 70s: 82s and 83s outside electric shed. There were 40s and 25s by diesel depot and 86s and 87s by carriage sheds. Always interesting things to see

@@miniature-airlines i was a great fun hobby then. Can't imagine it being so now. There's no variety, theres so few locomotives even. It's all units.

I work here now. Ten years on the Railway, five of them at Longsight. Interesting aspect. I was showing this to my child who had just asked "dad, where do you work?"
Might I suggest Crewe Electric Depot (opposite side of the Chester line to the Old Main Works, now Bombardier) for more variety?
    Thanks!

It's awesome that you can show your child where you work from the air !! , by the way, I already have a crewe electric video from earlier in the year, along with crewe diesel , gresty and Basford Hall

Missed quite a bit. I worked there.

Yeah I know. Its a difficult place to fly over as hardly any public places to stand where you can maintain line of sight on the drone

I remember visiting that depot 60-odd years ago when it was home to steam locos. My neighbour took me on a visit and we were in the cab of a Britannia class loco on shed. Fabulous.

Great memories Tony. Last time I visited Longsight was 1981 on a school trip as our woodwork teacher was a spotter and organised a permit for us all. If only we had a time machine. Thanks for watching.

Impressive drone footage. Not a lot of variety on site. Last time I was round the depot was the late eighties and there was then, loads of variety.

Yes, I remember it in the 80s too. Shame the glory days had to end. Thanks for watching 👀

Yes, my late father would run me over here when we visited family in the mid 70’s then cut across to Reddish for the 76’s, then guide bridge and Newton Heath to finish. Lots of Locos and no problems wandering around, apart from guide bridge- no chance!.

Reddish was one of my favourite depots when I started in 1978. Loved seeing the 76s and 501 EMUs on there. Sadly no photos of the visits tho. Happy memories. Thanks for watching

Love the videos, excellent work but not sure how the music enhances it personally, but I do have a volume button to be fair.
