Stat cards are SUCH a nice addition. IMO every tabletop wargame SHOULD have unit cards, especially with pictures. I'm a new player (my first product is going to be the Sandtrap+Rules+Corsair bundle!), and I would absolutely be happy to buy/print a unit card deck for the armies I'm interested in.
I agree, they're amazing for new players! Note that the book in the Sandtrap bundle ISN'T rules, it's only lore. If you want rules, you'll need the Quick Start Rules which you can download for free here: downloads.corvusbelli.com/infinity/rules/qsr-n5-en.pdf The full N5 rules drop mid-November, and will come as a book AND be available for free as a download too.
@@thedicegodswg Ahh, good to know! I saw some places labeling it as a lore book, but it was under the "Rules" section on the Corvus Belli shop page, so I was a little confused about that. I've watched your primer for N4 and read through the quick start guide, so I'll be on the lookout for the PDF next month!
It really is a very smart move as a company, and will be way easier to get new people in the game. I think doing a demo day at a lgs you've coordinated with beforehand so they have a few copies of this on hand could really help boost ones local scene while helping out your local shop. In fact I think this is exactly what I plan to do.
As a new player that has been a bit intimidated and been stalled getting into Infinity with N3 and N4. This finally looks like my at long last getting into Infinity. I'm hoping this will get me to a point where not only I can finally enjoy the game but demo it and bring others into the game.
Since I run a lot of Demo games this appeals to me. The stat cards are nice for new players. However, I’m for a print option on Army builder for future stat cards. I’m against selling them as a separate entity. Infinity often has rapid updates which would make purchased cards useless quickly.
As someone who taught themselves Infinity using Code One, going from C1 to N4 wasn't actually that much of a jump - it was a logical progression. However, having made the move to N4 then going back to C1 to try and teach others I found that the gap in that direction was significantly larger which is where I think it's bad rep came from: as an on ramp for the first half dozen games C1 was good but as a tool for experienced players to onboard new players it didn't work. This looks a lot better on both fronts.
Yes this was my experience as well. N4 was overwhelming for me when i tried to get into it but C1 was much more helpful to get to grips with it. But once Id moved to N4 going back to C1 trying to teach others wasnt always the easiest
Agreed, Essentials does look better than C1. My experience of bringing players from C1 to N4 was this... you know how to play, you know your options... but you really don't. You now have all of THIS to consider, plus how those interact with what you already know, in ways you haven't thought of.. and, and, and... It was like jumping from checkers to chess. Same board, but a LOT more going on. The preconception of Infinity that C1 gave was more jarring to lose than "Here's N4, but we'll take it slow" for the folks I worked with.
@@thedicegodswg If you weren't that deep into C1 you hadn't learned enough specifics that needed unlearning for N4 but if you had properly got into it as a system then, yeah, the transition was harder. As you were an N3/4 player before you looked at C1 that's why it seemed way more different to you than it did to those of us going the other way.
Thanks for doing an unboxing of this - as someone who organizes a local little infinity community I tend to run a lot of demos and this is something I've been as curious about as Sandtrap since I want to be able to introduce new players with N5 :)
You're welcome. We're going to do a more detailed review in the coming weeks too, and talk about our thoughts on using and expanding this. Both for community leaders like you and for newbies.
Based on all of your videos and recommendations I picked up this box through an online retailer that delivers to my region of the US. Waiting patiently for that Christmas time delivery.
To be fair, there's a lot of people that would like to fire me into space... BUT, that said, my experience is that Infinity has a reputation of being a LOT scarier than the new players I work with expereince. So, yes, don't worry, it's a game, and you'll be fine.
Those older minis may not be quite as nice as the ones in Sandtrap, but sculpts that have been out of print like those Icestorm fusiliers and orc trooper are pretty attractive to collectors and players who are heavily invested in the game.
Just found your channel, thanks for this. I've only played a handful of Code One, but my buddy and I are lookimg forward to Sandtrap and N5. Will the points disparity in this affect gameplay at all? Seems the JSA have an edge there with the "apply him to something you don't want to be there" CC guy.
Welcome to the channel and thanks for joining! With the minis in the Start Here box, and only using the Quick Start Rules, you'll be fine. The Shikami's points include skills and abilities which are NOT in the QSRs, so, without them, you'll be fine. When you start adding in more abilities, then the disaparity will show. But, by that point, you will need more minis anyway. We're going to do an Essentials series which, time permitting, will including everything from building the minis, to painting, first games and beyond... So, watch this space!
So is there anything new coming besides Sandtrap and this essentials kit. Trying to figure out if I get into the game and waiting to see remotes and big armour units which are a key attraction for me to this game
Well, we have the TAGs (big armour) for the Sandtrap armies with the new Tikbalang and Mechazoid which both released in the summer. There are releases for Infinity every month, so there are certainly new toys coming. Essentials will be expanded after launch as well. So, it's a great time to dive in. Probably start with Essentials if you've never played before unless you have a local Warcor who can support.
Im totaly new to Infinity, just happened to see some models online and thought wow they look amazing. I then read that its a complicated game. I was going to go with sandtrap when it launches but as it doesnt come with physical rules its now put me off it. I think this will be my starting point and see how it goes. I am baffled about the so many different factions and theres so many models out there I really dont know what i should be picking up to be honest
Then you should get Essentials. Infinity is deep, not complicated. You have a load of options in forces, units ans whilst playing. Essentials will help you learn the game, what you can do, then you can move to other factions understanding what they mean and how they work. The great thing is all armies have common abilities and weapons. So when you learn what a combi rifle does, it's the same every time you see it. That helps a lot!
Having always been Infinity adjacent and struggled with various barriers to entry this product is an amazing step toward accessibility and seems like a bargain
Ive decided to pick up this set when it launches but have a few newbie questions for someone if thats ok. 1. Ive just read that the new full n5 rules are going to be digital only, no physical copies. When I google N5 rule book loads of online shop are showing a physical hard book for about £45, whats that about? 2. Ive bought some Military Orders figures as i like the sculpts. Where would I find the stats for these to use in the game? 3. In the basic rules online it says that if you take damage upto your vitality count you become unconscious but doesnt say how you get them back up Sorry for the newbness but would love to play
Always happy to help, so any questions, fire away! 1. The N5 book that you can buy now is pure lore. All the story and background. There will, I believe, be a physical rulebook, but the full rules will be available from Corvus Belli (CB) for free as a PDF around the 18th of November. 2. The stats for those are available in Infinity Army, the army builder app. This is currently N4, but will update to N5 over the next few months, starting 18th of November. 3. You'll be needing a Doctor or Paramedic to help you back up. Those are available to various units, for example, the Military orders Knight Hospitaler has a Doctor profile in N4. As I say, ask away!
@thedicegodswg Many thanks, helps a lot , great channel so subbed. I've downloaded the simple quick start rules and seems straight forward. Not sure now whether to get the essentials set or the main set with more scenery and figures as can't afford to buy both at the mo, dilemmas lol
@@thedicegodswg Having a read through N4, iassume you can mix troops in a combat group? as in a knight of Santiago in same group as Tuetonic knight and hospitallor as long as they don't exceed the Ava of that particular type of model?. So Santiago with Ava 3 you can have a max of 3 of them in that group or is it in total of the army? Also to keep track of who's who do people write their names on the bases or something? Sorry for the newbness
@benavery703 okay, info dump. Your army will have combat groups of up to ten troopers. These can be any minis that you can take in the list. So, yes, a Santiago with Hospitaller etc is fine. Within your army you may also form fireteams, think of these as a squad operating together. These have rules about who can go with whom, but I don't think that the new combos for N5 are out for Military Orders. In practice, this means that a mox of knights in your combat group is fine, but that it's not necessarily possible for some or all of those knights to form a fireteam. Does that make sense?
Excited to get my hands on this box and start demoing the game to some friends/wide local wargaming community. Out of curiosity, what is the size of the game mat that comes with this box? Want to grab some MDF or Canva board to mount it on.
The game mat is 55 x 41cms ish. Maybe a few mm smaller. Good call on mounting it, that's a genius idea. And go you for getting ready to demo. I hope it goes really well for you. :)
No, I don't see that happening. They're doing it with Warcrow, granted, but it's a lot more work and liable to go out of date really fast, unfortunately.
Great idea, just not fully executed unfortunately. Those basic rules are so basic they don‘t cover the full scope of the box. They also take the format of the older quick start intros and refer to a model combination not in the box. As a single box new start this is well an incomplete and slightly confusing experience. The cards are great, but unless the other essentials boxes have them too it’s so limited and creates false expectations.
Okay, in reverse order, I am not sure that they will. I THINK I've heard that they will, but can't be 100%. There is a little bit of confusion coming from the cards, but overall, I think this is a big step forward. The basic rules don't cover the rules of the minis in the box, no. But, if they did, the JSA would have a noticeable advantage. Losing the CC/ Mimetism skills from the Shikami keeps things in more balance.
I'd love to see the army builder generate stat cards as a new check box option
Now, that would be cool!
