I've been playing TableTop for 5 years now (mostly Warhammer 40k). A few months ago i met 2 guys who showed me how to play Infinity. And man, i love it! I'm collecting Svalarheima's Winter Force (200 pts) and Tunguska Nomads (600 pts). Last month i finished my Szalamandra TAG :D What i can recommend is; try to find someone who can show you how to play Infinity. Or start with a friend and share those Starterboxes! After all, you can't play just by yourself. Heve fun guys! Greetings from Germany :D
Absolutely true. If you can't find a friend to assist, then see if there's a local warcor who can help. Welcome to the game and very good choice of first armies!
As a new player wanting to start playing Infinity with this new edition, I couldn't be happier with your plans for future videos! Thanks for this review, super helpful 👌
I got into Infinity about 2 weeks before N5 was announced, so I've been kind of in a holding pattern since then. I really appreciate this video. It is -- unsurprisingly -- much more informative than the 56-second-long video about Essentials that Corvus Belli released this week. I do somewhat question their strategy of waiting a month after launch to release a starter set, but I'll be onboard. I already pre-ordered the Sandtrap bundle before I knew about Essentials, but that's ok. Excited to get playing! Looking forward to Nomads Essentials!
A fellow Nomad player? I see you have taste! You're most welcome for the video and I am glad you found it helpful. It was an odd one from CB! Lots more to come for Essentials, so watch this space...
Look forward to the new tutorials, and fully agree having played a few games now, the basics are straightforward for the core loop, having a progression for people to work through sounds super helpful. I struggled w how to expand my old o-12 action pack
I realize this video is a month old, but after watching more stuff on N5, I am beginning to feel the tug to get back in. In this video when talking about the roadmap, there is mention of YJ action pack and Nomad action pack....will there also be a new operation box featuring these two armies? I missed any CB announcement or reveal about this.
Literally bought the USARF box because they looked so freaken cool lol. Never intended on playing Infinity but now I guess I will xD. Heard they were meh in N4 so hopefully they get love in 5.
Well, welcome to the game and nice choice of army. They were in a weird spot in N4, no idea what will happen in N5, but I would expect improvements, for sure.
My guess is that Yu Jing are gonna be ISS and Nomads are gonna be Tunguska, cause they were saying that both of those factions are getting new minis. Seems like a nice way to add them.
In killteam, you have to activate all your units, which gives structure to each turn... I'm glad they simplified killteam because it's a great ruleset for a beginner, but I'm equally glad infinity isn't. It's a goal to work towards.
Waiting on my pre-order for the essentials. new to Corvus Belli, but did they give a timeframe for the other boxes? Will we have to wait months for more models to paint and play?
CB release new minis on a monthly basis, so I would expect a regular release for Essentials. We'll hear what's coming out for Janaury in mid-December, but if there isn't a new Essentials box in that set, there you can bet on new toys for February. Welcome to the game and the community!
I bought sandtrap, always wanted to start in JSA and excited aboit the new kestral forces. Wife bought essentials, she runs our local toirnaments and wants a copy to demo with.
The reason I find it difficult to get into infinity playing infinity, in spite of having a rather large and painted collection of the models, is that it seems to be built around "Gotchas" which demoralise me so incredibly fast. Every game there's something that just shuts you down with no way out, so you just end up losing immediately without ever even having a chance to make a game of it. It feels like you have to know everything to do anything. I hope to try again with N5, see if now is the time I finally break into the game and play with my collection 🍻
@thedicegodswg Thank you for the response! Yeah the introductory stuff is alright, you can get your head around the main game loop easily enough. it's whenever I try to get into the full game and you start running into walls constantly, because it really does feel like you have to know every special rule and every unit in order to even start making a game of it. And when every "lesson" is a four hours of feeling completely helpless, it's just super hard learn.
The packs do seem very close to just being code one packs. For nomads, lose 3 minis (which arent in generic n5) add the expansion beta and everything else could just be as it was for code one. Which does make me wonder if thats the way it'll go, seems an easy option
I'm looking to dive into Infinity properly for the first time. Have noticed a niche that doesn't appear to be covered on youtube. A quick 15-20 minute overview of the factions. A "which army to pick" type of video. Any recommendations on somewhere to look for this?
There are a few out there, BUT they're all N4. So, with all the changes coming up in N5 (which units go where, for example), I'd take most of them with a grain of salt right now. I'd expect to see a flurry of new videos on this after the release of the new rules and lists on the 18th of November. Hope that helps and welcome to the game!
Are the add-ons going to be new sculpts or repackaged figure sets that are already available? Also will they come with stat cards for the figures in each box do you know?. If they come with the cards I'd rather hang fire on buying the figures till these sets come out
Good video. I played Infinity back in 2018-2020. Stopped because of the world stopping. Thought about getting back in but, to be honest, I am not a fan of metal minis. The sculpts are great but I wish CB would offer all of their minis in some form of plastic. (Siocast maybe).
Lately I've been the opposite. Every time I sand or cut plastic I keep thinking of the microplastics I'm putting into the world. I'd rather it was the metal,
I agree with you I love the game but I wish their models will be in plastic. Especially because often you have to put than on the top of buildings and they fall. I have to glue stuff during a game. Then when we talk about plastic, it can be PLA made of vegetal (cellulose).
Why didn't CB have the beginner Essentials box with 3 minis from the Sandtrap box instead of old stock 🤔 Then, the Sandtap box could have been the Beyond box, so to speak, including the upcoming beyond Sandtrap miniatures, plus advanced rules to complement the Essentials box. The miniatures in the Essentials box are old stock. Don't get me wrong, the miniatures are gorgeous, but i'm getting a GW vibe re marketing 🤔 I've never played a game, but collect CB miniatures & occasionally list build
I have played infinity since the beginning of N3. It was the first game I ever played myself (outside of demos at shows). I cut my teeth on this game. This game is complex. I don't own another game (60 other game systems owned) that I need to break down into multiple games to ensure the principles are clear. There's no other game where I need to explain over a unit profile, what it does and why it works. Infinity is complex. That's not a negative. It needs to be sold as a positive. The game is complex because it is giving you an opportunity to grow within the rules and become better. Also, CB are working harder than any other miniatures company to create a complete beginners experience which I adore
I fundamentally disagree. Complex is 40K, lots of different, one-off special rules to units within armies which, themselves, have one-off special rules. Concepts within concepts, ideas within ideas. Infinity, a combi is a combi is a combi. A multi is a combi with ammo types. Close combat is shooting in base-to-base, hacking is shooting at 8". The core concepts are simple. What you can DO with them? There you have a lot of choice, which can be overwhelming. But, at it's core, Infinity has some simple ideas; it's blackjack with resource management. However, on Essentials? We are in complete agreement.
@thedicegodswg thank you for the reply. This is an excellent way to look at it and I need to digest it more. I agree with the ideas you've stated but I do think infinity is complex. Perhaps it's a community perception of 'complex' that is the problem in my statement. I suppose a distinction is Infinity may be complex but it has substance. Infinity interacts with it's rules and it's 'best' profiles are the ones that possess the ability to interact efficiently. Games such as 40k are complex due to bloat. The best profiles for 40k are the ones that break/ circumvent rules. That's an incredibly important distinction. One encourages calculated decisions where consequences may not be immediately evident. The other encourages gameplay that rewards 'gotcha' plays and finding ways to stretch a rule past it's intended use. Does any of that even make sense? 🤣
Thx a lot for the video and your thoughts about Infinity Essentials! However I don't fully agree with you on for who this set is suited. New players who want to get into wargaming? Yes, absolutely! Players new to Infinity (but having experience in other wargaming systems) and veteran Infinity players giving demo games to new players? Nope, sorry but I'd recommend CodeOne to them without hesitation. Why? Bc CodeOne offers much more options than Essentials without having to buy more packs. You also start easy using the most basic rules only. But with every game after the first one you add more depth and show more and more of Infinity's possibilities. With Essentials these possibilities are only hinted at. And another impression I get is - pls correct me if I'm wrong about that - that beginning with Essentials there are super basic quick-start rules and the "big hammer" of N5's complete ruleset. CodeOne imho offers an in-between solution - a mid-level ruleset neither too basic nor too complex and therefore well suited for casual players which are not dedicating their entire game-time to playing Infinity and nothing else beside that. Btw - I'm intentionally not talking about the price here - what's expensive for one is a bargain for someone else. The decision about what's a good price/value ratio must be made by everyone individually.
Only one big problem, Code One is discontinued and won't be supported. So, no updated profiles, losing the army builder and no profiles for new minis. Essentials replaces Code One completely in the range.
as someone that has build and painted 2 full forces for friends (combined army and torchlight) i can tell that the hardest part of infinity is working with the material. working with metal is absolute aweful. sio is not the greatest either. iam in this hobby for over 25 years now and it took me way more affort then working with plastic or resin and whem iam honest iam not willing to this for me again. so i will proxy every mini with plastic oder resin ones and thats a shame, coz i generaly like the style of the infinity minis
Interesting. The metal vs. plastic debate has been going on as long as I've been in the game. For me? I really don't remotely share your experience. I find metal as easy to work with as plastic, easier than some resin minis, too. I guess it's what you're used to. I don't see CB changing to all plastic in the immediate future, and if they did, I think a lot of existing players would be frustrated. With proxying, just be aware that, according to tournament rules, you can only proxy with CB minis if you go to a tournament. So it is best to check with the TO if you do plan to play competitively.
This box is too small, and the miniatures old and are repeated, so for a person who would definitely like to collect Infinity, this box is useless (не пришей кобыле хвост). It would be better if the miniatures for the Essentials boxes were with an exclusive design, as it was in the Vallejo Model Color Set: Infinity
That would fundamentally miss the point of the box's design. To be a cheap, simple entry into the game. If you want to dive in, get Sandtrap. This is a much more approachable, cost-effective route. If you add in more minis, new or exclusive ones, up goes the price.
Greatly appreciate your channel and your content. Now and I hate to admit it, Ive been looking at Infinity ever since N3. I bought Operation Coldfront as we went into N4 and Codeone. Apart from a handful of games and very basic I would hardly call myself a veteran of the game infact definitely falling into he complete newbie camp. Ive built and painted the two factions that came off Coldfront so both Ariadna Tartart army and Aleph. I got the Beyond set and then some extras for Tartary list. Ive built a good collection of the thick cardboard scenery so its most definitely a game I want to focus on over the other games. infinity depth I like but as you mention is the intimidation factor, and i just havent properly got off the fence. With N5 Im determined to change that. Now after all that waffle Id greatly appreciate your advice on this one. Im thinking Essentials and the Roadmap feels for me the best option. But i love the look of Sandtrap. I apologise if I missed this in the video I was wondering how Sandtrap would bolt onto Essentials or does it eve do so. Looking forward to all the N5 content and a terrific channel
First of all... you're most welcome and thanks for spending your time on the channel. Second, YES, you REALLY need to start playing! :D As to your questions, we have a video arriving tomorrow evening that should answer that. It's out for members now and drops for free for everyone else from 8pm CET here: th-cam.com/video/fX7fCxJVDd4/w-d-xo.html Hope it help, if you have any more questions, put them on that one. :)

Makes sense to me!

Sooooooon!!
Thanks for this video! I am finally jumping into Infinity with Sandtrap, and this helps.
Good job and welcome!
Look forward to the new tutorials, and fully agree having played a few games now, the basics are straightforward for the core loop, having a progression for people to work through sounds super helpful. I struggled w how to expand my old o-12 action pack

All good, thanks for watching. And no, they will get their own individual 10-trooper starter box. At least according to the CB road map.

I think that, with care, Infinity can be easily accessible. Essentials is certainly the right way to start that!
Waiting on my pre-order for the essentials. new to Corvus Belli, but did they give a timeframe for the other boxes? Will we have to wait months for more models to paint and play?

It's a good call for demos, have to say. My wife took the free Corsair mini!
The reason I find it difficult to get into infinity playing infinity, in spite of having a rather large and painted collection of the models, is that it seems to be built around "Gotchas" which demoralise me so incredibly fast. I hope so too. Have you been playing with cut down rules or diving in with full rules?
@thedicegodswg
Thank you for the response!
Will those upcomaing boxes contain Vanilla or Sectorial models? Hopefully both?
I'd imagine generic forces that can be used in sectorials.
Gnna watch the guide vids TY!
Thank you! They're coming...

Very much so. The concept of Code One was good, but I think this is a better execution.
I'm looking to dive into Infinity properly for the first time. Have noticed a niche that doesn't appear to be covered on youtube. A quick 15-20 minute overview of the factions. A "which army to pick" type of video.

Repacks of older figures and yup, 100% coming with cards.
@thedicegodswg Excellent, just pre ordered the essentials, can't wait.

Fair point, well made.
I agree with you I love the game but I wish their models will be in plastic. Especially because often you have to put than on the top of buildings and they fall. I have to glue stuff during a game. Then when we talk about plastic, it can be PLA made of vegetal (cellulose).
I would be for plastic only if they get the detail of metal. Until then I'm metal 🤟
For the algorithm!!!

Simply to keep costs down. That's why Essentials is so cheap. Additionally, they're products aimed at different markets.
hello there, i´m gona get that box for xmas , is my present from me to me :D
This seems like a great idea to me!
You know it.

Wait, is that the new roadmap? Didn't we get all these things fairly recently? Are they just rereleases?
The Essentials sets with the cards etc are existing minis, rereleased as a way for new players to get into the game.
Complex, not complicated, that's what I say now to people :)
Ooooh I like it!
Thx a lot for the video and your thoughts about Infinity Essentials! However I don't fully agree with you on for who this set is suited.
