  • In what was supposed to be a smooth and exciting travel day to Europe, we find ourselves navigating a series of unexpected twists and turns. Flight cancellations and delays throw a wrench into our well-laid plans, leading to seemingly endless layovers and frustrating waits at airports. The lack of sleep only adds to the fatigue and challenges we face along the way. However, like true adventurers, we persevere through the hurdles, determined to make it to our final destination - the enchanting city of Krakow, Poland! Thank you so much for watching - Cheers 🍻

      @@BrianandCarrie happy to hear it! A couple of things. Gdansk may be as pretty as Krakow, and during non peak season it will be cheaper I think to stay. You can’t swim in the water during peak season anyway. Something to keep in mind in the future. Also should you ever decide on Czech I’d transition through Wroclaw. Especially the southern suburbs there. We also have friends from Bulgaria and their economy is catching up to Romania the same way Poland is catching up to the UK, but the power of the dollar should be higher in Bulgaria. Lithuania is the nicest country on the Baltic that is Eastern Europe so your money should be good there for some nice experiences too. Finally a question to you….with our American credit cards we can never get them to work contactless in Poland, like say on the bus. And in many public transits they don’t have chip reader inserts so we can’t use them. Have you tried contactless on your American credit or debit cards and do they work? If so which ones! Keep up the great content. I’ve never been anywhere in the Asian countries but China and I hated it there. I wanted to visit Taiwan and S Korea but was unsure of some of the others. Your videos make us want to see Vietnam and the Philippines!

      Oh no, so sorry to hear that! Frankfurt is the airport that keeps going and going. It's honestly shocking sometimes how far you have to travel to make a connection. Even more shocking is that when booking a ticket they give you a 45 min layover to make that connection. Hope you made it to your destination without too much grief. Cheers 🍻

      Thank you! We talk often about how we are so much more relaxed now with long travel days or when things just don't go as planned. We think this has so much to do with experience and having the time to not have to stress over it. As for lounges, we are so new to this and only get a few free passes a year. We do hope we become more experienced/experts in this and would absolutely share our experience. Cheers 🍻

    Hey there! Have y'all looked into Google Fi? We just started traveling internationally last year - Ecuador, Spain, and Portugal, but it works effortlessly in many countries. We use it here in the US as our regular service and then when we go overseas we bump up our plan temporarily in case we need to use the phones for hot spots since we work while we're traveling. It's been great. Pretty affordable and no need to worry about sim cards. We've been watching your channel for a while and couldn't help but finally comment and share this. We really love your videos and they help us figure out where we'll go next!

Thank you so much for the suggestion, it is a great option for many. Cheers 🍻

    I was in UK same time as you! But, my LGW flight got changed to a LHR flight, so different airport last minute. I thought LGW looked more than a bit run-down when I was over there in April. I just went through LHR, and they did not allow any liquids on international flights. I flew USA-LHR and LHR-Germany. Flight attendant told me to CARRY luggage as if it's a big bag. But that being said, I've not had an issue with getting my bag when they've done that. Was just in Austria. Got sick, and admitted to hospital. so much fun.

    Hi Guys, Nice to see you made it back to Europe even though it took you longer than expected. My guess is that your canceled flight was with easyJet and that you flew with Lufthansa to Krakow with a connection in Frankfurt. Welcome to air travel in the 2020s. In my years of travel, I have never seen so many cancelled or delayed flights by airlines. It is truly remarkable. I am all for safety of the passengers and crew, but this seems to be a scheduling challenge more than a safety one. There is painful lack of explanation from the airline industry too on what is impacting them. Good note about refusing to check the carry on bag. It is odd to me when I carry a proper dimension bag, and then the metal checker at the gate is smaller and they refuse to allow the bag in the overhead bins. Just annoying. How frustrating to have a three-leg trip with Florida - Gatwick - Frankfurt and then Krakow. Safe travels. Enjoy Europe. Sorry about Austria, but it can wait.

    • @BrianandCarrie
      @BrianandCarrie  ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely, It is crazy how much flying has changed. We expect some changes as so many more people are traveling. But the high number of cancelations and just down right rudeness we've experienced makes travel days all the more daunting. One reason that as soon as we are on the ground and bus and train is an option, that's what we pick - so much easier even if it takes a little bit longer. Cheers 🍻

    This is our first time using an eSim for our phone, and it works pretty smoothly! If all you need is data (no calling, unless you use WhatsApp etc.), then Airalo is worth checking out. You basically turn off your main line when you leave home, and turn on your Airalo when you land at destination.

    • @BrianandCarrie

      We've looked into esim as it would be a nice option, but unfortunately won't work with either of our phones. Which is apparently common with phones purchased in the US. Sorry about your cancelled flight to bad you didn’t fly straight to Frankfurt. Long flights, long layovers are no fun and early flights that are long are no fun as a hotel isn’t worth it. The only way to pass long times at an airport is either in a lounge or in one of those sleep pods for a few hours. Good luck in Poland I am surprised it isn’t expensive with all the refugees there.

    Hi, you mentioned Heathrow running a trial of not restricting liquids to 100ml or taking them out the bags. British airports are rolling out new scanners that allow this to happen by next year. London city has them now. They are so big and gravy some airports need the floor reinforcing! Problem is that on the way back if you come through an airport that doesn’t have these scanners you still need max 100ml and take out the bag

    • @BrianandCarrie
      @BrianandCarrie  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, we use TSA approved liquid bags. It is nice that something may change in the near future.

    I’m so excited to see this. I’m actually taking the same trip in 2weeks. Yes, Krakow but I kept Vienna and Hungry on my trip. It’s super busy due to holiday mid Aug they celebrate. Can’t wait to see your adventures. Can you mention which atm that did not charge fees.

      @BrianandCarrie  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! We look forward to making it to Hungry next year. Sorry, I don't recall the name of the ATM. I do know it was right in the old town center and at a bank (we always try to use ones at a bank as we feel they are a bit more secure). Safe travels to you!!

    Glad you had a fairly nice trip considering. About the lounges. What kind of deal have you got there for getting Lounge access? Heck, it would be worth it as just a place to chill, have a meal and a few beers for such a long layover...Thanks! Welcome back to Europe!

      Hi! We each use our Capital One Venture card, which gives us two free lounge passes a year. We have also paid for lounge access while on a 11hr layover in Tokyo.... That was $43 (each) well spent.

    We recently had a an absolute NIGHTMARE experience at Frankfurt airport. Dealt with one of the rudest airline customers service employees we ever met..and that airport in general sucks to travel through. It's massive.

      Frankfurt is a huge airport that's for sure. This trip we sure seemed to experience more rudeness than usual. Could have to due with being right in the middle of tourist season, but still no excuse. We aren't making it to Hungry this time around, but plan to make it there next year. Thanks so much for watching - Cheers 🍻

    Hello! To clarify you book 2 separate flights. Maybe with 2 airlines. 1 into the region and 1 with a local airline? Do you just pay change fees or a charge for a new ticket if first flight throws off second flight? Thx!!

    • @BrianandCarrie
      @BrianandCarrie  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It really depends, but in this case it was two separate tickets. We try to allow plenty of time in between connections for delays, and this has worked well for us.

    When u were planning ur trip 2 Poland did u look / consider flying 2 Berlin with Norse Air as its close 2 Poland ?
    Sim cards with the EU
    countries I use an Irish sim card linked 2 WhatsApp and its free of charge as long as I'm in a EU country.
    Enjoying ur vlogs thx
    Christy 🇮🇪/🇵🇹 👍Update on using a sim card with WhatsApp
    If u decide 2 try it -
    U can't have a 2nd WhatsApp on the 1 phone
    ( most smartphones hold 2 sims )
    So u would need to use another phone.
    All the best .

    What card are you using that gives you lounge access?
    You mentioned London is doing a trial on allowing liquids more than 100ml. With travelling only with carry on luggages, do you have space for bigger bottles/containers and what will happen when you fly from an airport/country that still requires the 100ml limit?

    • @BrianandCarrie
      @BrianandCarrie  ปีที่แล้ว

      The process hasn't started yet so we don't know all the details. Once you land in a country you don't go back through security so you will be fine. We use Capital One Venture cards for lounge access. You get two per year. Thank you for watching!

    Easyjet are always unreliable , dreadful airline cant depend on them , if they cancelled less than 14 days in advance don't forget your compensation claim -retained EU regs apply. Personally I'd have gone MIA > DUB for the greater choice of onward flights...

    First time I've ever heard anyone say an extra 9 hours at Gatwick is 'an opportunity'!! I hate Gatwick, once had to wait 14 hours to get to Spain - also nightmare trains, escalators fail, unhelpful staff... awful place! Oh and Easyjet can be terrible with unpleasant staff too!

      Haha, opportunity was our positive attitude spin on it for sure 😊. easyJet was the cacti cancelled flight we had. I've never heard great things about them but was trying to risk it cause had it worked we would have arrived at 3pm instead of 1:30am. Can't win them all I guess.
