I'm curious how you found your places to stay for a month at a time? Did you just contact certain Airbnb ers to see if they had a monthly availability? Seems like If so, there could be a "cut rate" price?
I am Croatian born, living in the US. This is really good information for people wanting to travel to Croatia. My family is on Brac and the cost of accommodation, dining and entertainment is very reasonable there. Your journeys were to the more expensive and highest cost tourist cities. Going off the beaten path, you’ll find all of your costs will be greatly reduced.
We spent 27 days in Croatia and respectfully attempted the language everywhere. We ran into ONE Croat in all 27 days to not know English. It felt easy and we drove all over Croatia. You really missed out if you didn't see much outside of Split. Split was excellent but our least favorite. Croatia is just so amazing.
Croatia did the world's first digital nomad visa , both of you would easily qualify as vloggers , but it's not just for vloggers , Amazon resellers would qualify or laptop based remote workers .
Dubrovnik - I have found over the years that during the tourist season the old city has turned into a giant al fresco restaurant. All the promenades are covered with tables, serving food of varying digrees of quality. Perhaps for this reason the taile nd of season is the best time to visit.
As a Croatian I'm quite impressed with your pronunciation of our towns, I know that our language is a bit awkward for English speakers so I'm really glad you got most of it correct, Trogir being the mistake that I completely understand, it'd be read as tro- (ex. trope) gi- (example in gif not jif) and -r ( the same as the English suffix of -r) I really recommend you see some of the more inland places cuz even though they're not as picturesque as our coastline we do have some amazing stuff, especially Slavonian food. Great video in any case, and I'm glad you had fun in my homeland 😊
Thank you so much. It is difficult sometimes to get all the pronunciations correct. Thank you for understanding!! 😀 We will be back soon and visit Zagreb and more of the inland territory. Thank you again!! Cheers!!!🍻
@@BrianandCarrie Do not travel outside of Zagreb, the only thing you are going to se is poor places with pigs in the yards. In my case I was driving motorcycle from Zagreb to Nuva Gradiska and I was in shock that places like this exist in the European Union at the same time couple % of people are very rich until 90% fighting to survive. No good memories about this country I can tell about. EU must look closer on those criminal politicians who grabing contributions from the EU and robs his own people....
As far as a cost of living, starting January 2023 after Croatia switched to Euro as an official currency, prices went up significantly! All prices are rounded up to the closest higher number in Euros, so if conversion rate was 7, 54301kn for 1 Euro, per say, prices that were 10-12kn were rounded to 2 Euros. Bottom line is that people in Croatia ( not tourists who come to Croatia from countries with higher GDP ) are gonna be struggling. I use to live in the States and was making over $100k, in Croatia I make minimum wage as, for some reason none of my skills and school I've acquired state side is not recognized and appreciated here in Croatia. Minimum wage is just raised to about 560 Euros a month, roughly 600 USD. Try living off of that, right? Croatia is beautiful, people are great but government and politicians are way too corrupt for making Croatia a great place to live. Visit for sure!
I'm sure that is such a struggle for those living in Croatia. It's always a different view coming in as a tourist and we try to understand that those that are living there experience a whole different way of living and struggles. Thank you for the insight and thank you so much for watching!
Po tvojoj prici bi se reklo da sama sirotinja zivi na Jadranu, a standard je kao u Italiji. Ti mozda radis za minimalac koji je 800e danas, ali si manjina od 10% koji rade ta tu lovu.
@@europljanin9080 and according to your nick name and point of view I’d say you work in Germany or some other EU country with higher standard and income. So to correct you, as of May of 2024 minimum wage in Croatia is 668 Euros net, 840€ bruto. And yes, I owe my own business so I do pay myself minimum wage and my employees get twice my salary and all the benefits, Christmas bonus and all everything else I can give them legally. ( cca. 2600 Euros annually ). And also, in Croatia 10% of the people have a nice life and incomes, rest is struggling. If you live in Croatia and in touch with reality you would know.
You will be amazed how many places that cost the same to rent for a month, that they do for a week if you ask.. Specially if you are outside the hollyday season, it is very easy to find those prices.. A longer stay is deffently one of the best ways to get more out of the money.. Most places only have day or week prices, and if you talk to the owner about a longer period in the small places, they will 9 out of 10 times give a good price I did that more then 1 time..
Great video ! Thanks! Our family just returned from a day-10 action packed adventure in Croatia ----- Dubronvik 3 nights center of beautiful city, then a gorgeous home rental in wine country exploring many wineries, then onto Split 4 nights where son-in-law was admitted to the hospital sadly. I LOVED Croatia - fast boat tours to 4 islands, ferry to a couple of places, and I walked miles every day, up and down massive steps in the old town and levels of steps in the airbnbs so if you have knee problems, keep this in mind I arrived home and dropped 5 lbs in 10 days depsite all the amazing food and drinks ---- why the drop ? Again, high energy going every day many miles with the steps etc.. I am senior 66 solo back in NY and I want to return to Croatia for a couple of months as it will be great for my health (since my return a few days ago, I feel sluggish again and gained amost 3 lbs ) Eating healthy but not exercising as it is the same old hikes and done with them - life is short and I want to move on ...... good idea to go for solo female 66 ?
Just FYI - Split to Hvar has a ferry ride (2 hrs) and a catamaran ride (50 minutes). Ferry costs 5-7euro, depending on the season and catamaran is 18E flat. If you have time and want to enjoy some boat ride and nice views of the archipelago = cheap ferry. If you want to be there fast in a stuffy speedboat = expensive catamaran. If you are taking a car - then catamaran is off the table and youll pay an extra 50ish E for the car to come along each way on the ferry...
Thanks for your informative review of Croatia. A couple months ago I started my Croatian Citizenship By Descent. My mother’s parents and ancestors are from Croatia and I found out I qualify. I hired an immigration legal firm. The process takes a while and we just began. I plan to go in April and hope to meet other retirees there once I figure out how to find them. I won’t be working, of course, so not concerned with making money or getting a paycheck. It seems like an ideal place to me if you are retired.
We have been watching you two from the very beginning, planning on doing what you all are doing!!! Well, it's finally here!! We leave from San Antonio, TX to Portugal for the month of January!!! All the information you all have given through your videos has been invaluable to us and is helping pave the way in the decision making process of where and when. We have a question......how far out do you book your stays? Thanks and hope to meet you sometime in the future! Jeff and Patricia
This is so exciting!! Portugal is a perfect place to start! We usually book out three months ahead of time, however, we do watch to see when places start booking in our next planned destination. We don't want to miss out on the best spots. We would love to meet someday!! Thank you for the kind words and for watching our channel! Cheers!!🍻
you can take a ferry jadrolinija from split for like 6 euros to hvar max, you are talking about the katamaran ship its a faster option but more expensive
Dubrowniki is trerrible in august been there 2 years ago.. in summer day or evening in streets there insane stream of people like in rock concert.. i no recomend it for familys.
Excellent Video. Glad you touched on the cost of living. Inflation and the change to the Euro on Jan 1/23 is really impacting the locals. Bangkok in 18 days for us, looking forward to SE Asia as well. Merry Christmas and best wishes for a Happy and Healthy 2023!
Great video and solid information on your time on your time in Croatia 👍 I always enjoy your videos, you both are so easy going and I must say, I get an absolute kick out of your “beer thirsty” calls so cheers friends, happy holidays and can’t wait for your adventures in SE Asia 👏🏻👍🙏🤙✌️🍻🍻
Cool video , I'm a Croatian , if you plan to come back and especially if you plan to spend a larger quantity of time again I'd suggest you stay in the Istra and Kvarner area (Istra , Krk , Cres) There are plenty of more places to visit , a much better food to eat , ALOT more of inland exploring , ALOT of hiking if you wish , amasing towns such as Pula , Rovinj etc, and island of Krk and Cres are top noch to visit. I'd also say you'd go cheaper and an a bonus is you're really close to capital by car/bus which i would suggest you visit. Sretna putovanja !
Thank you for the suggestions Matko. We do plan on coming back to Croatia someday and will be visiting more of the islands and also spending time in Zagreb. Thank you again!! Cheers!!🍻
Thanks for the great summary, my wife and I discussed our plans for Croatia as we watched, very helpful. Can you do a video on planning for your SE Asia travel? (Entrance requirements, visas - I didn’t know you needed additional vaccinations!) Thanks!
It took me a while to realize what you were refering to when you said ‘Trogir’. The ‘g’ in the middle is pronounced as ‘g’ in the verb ‘get’ in Croatian. Other than that I liked your video. You are very lucky to be able to live this lifestyle:-).
If I understand correctly as of January 01 2023 Croatia is officially part of the Schengen area. Merry Christmas, enjoy and cheers to your new adventures. We spent 3 weeks in Malta there is a lot to see if it ever comes down to searching for a place to visit.
I'm 73 years old so when I think of the old Soviet Union group of countries, I think "industrial," "grey," "polluted," "bureaucratic." I'd forgotten that some of these countries are part of the Mediterranean complex. I've been following my sister and brother-in-law via TH-cam video walking tours, etc. on their 10-day Mediterranean tour. When I saw a walking tour of Split (they're going into Split tomorrow, June 30, 2024) and I saw a video beforehand, I was stunned. I told my sister that if she loved Corfu, Split will knock her socks off. What an absolutely beautiful place. The costs are sure a heck of a lot lower than here in St. George, UT!!
@@damirblazevic4823 Yugoslavia was one of the Soviet bloc countries though under Marshall Tito, it was run differently. It's simply an observation made by someone in United States whose image of Communist countries was heavily colored by U. S. propaganda. I didn't mean to "babble." I'm well-read, well-traveled, and well-educated (University of California at Berkeley). My apologies. Croatia is absolutely beautiful.
Fantastic! As always. Because we hang on your every word (yes -- you're like the Walter Cronkite's of TH-cam!) our ears perked up when we noticed at one point you buried the lead! You got shots for Southeast Asia. Wait. What? I know you'll cover in another video but what kind of shots? It must be maddening that people notice everything you say and how you say it. It's like you're living in "The Truman Show" and we all want to know what Brian and Carrie are doing now. Anyway, thanks, as always.
Thank you for your video. I am so disappointed to find out that Croatia is joining the EU. I have been planning a trip for my family of 5 to go there in May 2024 but now I may reconsider since prices will be much higher. I was trying to decide between Croatia and Greece and picked Croatia because it didn't use EUROs. Now I may reconsider.
It should be interesting to see how it all turns out in Croatia moving forward. From what we have heard is that prices have gone up unexpectedly. It is unfortunate, the average income isn't as high as it is in other western Schengen countries.
Being half Croatian myself , I would never say that it's worth it. if you go to the coast or the islands if you want peace then it is worth it . Croatia has low paychecks and the prices of nearly everything are as high as in the rest of the EU where it's double paychesck for the same job. So why would you do that to yourself. You can always visit Croatia. It's sad as it is like that as it's a beautiful country with corrupt politics .
Loving your videos! Would love to see a video of what you do as soon as you arrive in a new Airbnb location- what do you look for, e.g. kitchen supplies, security, electrical points, clothes drying space, etc. In other words, how do you get settled in and feeling at home as quickly as possible without wasting time looking for a frying pan or where you put your charger?
Thank you, Roma! We did an Airbnb video a few months back that may answer some of your questions. We also show our Airbnb in the first video of a new location. Thank you for watching!! Cheers!!🍻
Another great video guys! Shame they are joining the Shengen as it was going to be a an “out of Shengen” country on our upcoming planned trip. Croatia looks absolutely stunning, can’t wait to get there. Looking forward to your upcoming travel to SE Asia, when do you start your travels there?
What’s the problem with Croqtia joining Schengen? It is already EU country so this is even easier for travellers, also euro is currency from 1st of January 2023. Besides that almost everybody speaks English or German and Italian so it’s easy to get along with the locals. And Bosnia and Herzegovina is quite close for your “out of Schengen” tour.
Really enjoyed this video and love seeing you guys as always. Crazy that buying Brian’s inhaler is so much cheaper in another country! Hope you’re enjoying the time with your families and we’ll be watching for the SE Asia content. 😊
So, what’s the strategy for a long stay in Croatia as a retiree? Please do a research and tell us how can you retire there for longer than 1 year! Thanks
I know many people are looking to know what it Costs monthly to live in the places you're traveling to. My husband and I are more interested in slow traveling full time. I'd love it if you guys could include the cost of getting to the country you're in from wherever you were and also include the cost of travel to where you go to next.
That is a great question! Our Saturday video this week is all about our yearly travel costs including all airfare and other travel expenses not included in our monthly cost of living videos. 😀
HA!! You are right!! A 16 oz. 4-pack of a local lager was about $4.00. Heineken was about $5.00 on sale!! I'll do better next Cost of Living video!! 😀 Cheers!!!🍻
Great video! Due to Brian health conditions or to your overall health, do you guys also take in consideration the level of stress when you travel? Also do you research about clinics/hospitals when you choose a destination?
We don't take health care into consideration at this point when picking a location. If we were to permanently settle down, we would research health care a bit further. Our health is actually very good besides the occasional use of an inhaler. Thank you for watching our channel!! Cheers!!🍻
I think that you should change the name of the video from COST OF LIVING IN CROATIA to DALMATIA because it is very diferent to live in region of Dalmatia and anything north in continent, first of all because the climate is diferent,Dalmatia is Mediteran and as soon as you pass the mountins it is continent and climate is similar in continent croatia or Austria or Hungary. relaxed way of living is typical for Dalmatia or all adriatic coastline countries. if you visit Italy you will find out that wery small amount of people speak english, diference here in croatia is that english laguage is learned in school from start to end of education ,thats way everybody speak and understand english. ferrys are expensive for visitors, not for residents,if you live on islands the price is simbolic. hospitals for croats and for tourists is almost free,if you have a job your employe pays for your healthcare ,they have to because its the law. prices of evrithing on the coastline is high because of tourism, and because of the climate, easy way of life, and low prices ,lot of foreginers buy houses and apartments in dalmatia and istria ,and because of that prices become too mutch for locals.and sad thing is hapening to local people ,young people have to migrate to western europe or north america because they cant buy a flat or apartment even if they can live two times, and in a few years locals literarly disapear and foren people replaced them. once again every time when you use word "affordable"it is for people from western europe or north america.trust me for locals it is not. one more thing, the cost of medications are not small ,they cost that mutch to produce, but in USA you pay fortunes for medications,Iknow people who send medications to their relatives or friends in USA and if you add cost of airtransport from here to USA its still cheaper
We believe with our plan we get up to six months a year. We will only be in the states for about 3 to 4 months in 2023. Thank you for watching!! Cheers!!🍻
I guess you misssed out on seeing Korcula/Vela Luka/Lumbarda.....Great, if you're looking for peace and quiet, great coves, beaches, food...Less tourists and less expensive than Split, Hvar and Dubrovnik....
We did miss out on many locations that we wish we had the time and resources to experience. We will be back someday soon, so we appreciate the suggestions!! Thank you! Cheers!! 🍻
thanks for nice video again. Could you compare/estimate prices in eating and drinking out in Romania to Croatia? How much cheaper in % is Romania? Yeah I know you were not eating that much out in CRO
Hi, Karel. We didn't eat out much but going out for a beverage it didn't seem to be any more expensive than Romania. If it is more, it wouldn't be by much, maybe 10% probably more in Zagreb.
The reason they have so many pharmacies is because pensioners cannot afford simple drugs like ibruprohene or aspirin , in the UK you can buy these at Lidl Aldi or Tesco for 30cents . So because of this 25% of the healthcare budget is wasted on basic medicine , opticians are also everywhere because all pensioners can afford to do is watch state TV which as we know makes eye muscles lazy at a constant fixed field of vision . Some friends only get €170 a month pension after having 2 children , widowed and worked 25 years . Hidden Croatia that nobody talks about . Great videos guys , cheers .
Hey thanks for the very informative video. We're contemplating a similar stay in the Fall of 2023. You mentioned there are no longer term visas that are easy to get - did you look into the Digital Nomad Visa for Croatia? I realize your stay would not have required it. Greece and Spain (in Jan) appear to have something similar.
Greetings from Miami, and thank you for another great video! A couple of months ago you ranked Portugal, Romania and Spain as your top three destinations at the time. Now that you visited Serbia and Croatia, is Portugal still your number one in Europe? It seems to me that the cost of living is similar in all these countries, except maybe Spain being slightly more expensive, so it should not be a major factor in choosing the right one for a long term stay.. Looking forward to your videos from South East Asia, and Happy Holidays!
We would still rank Portugal as our #1 spot. We really like the beaches, food, climate, and people. Thank you for the kind words and for watching. Cheers!!!🍻
I’m confused about the shots that you got for your trip to Southeast Asia. I just visited Thailand and didn’t need anything and I’m headed to Vietnam in February but I don’t see anything required.
Hi, James. You are correct, nothing is required. These shots are just suggested, we decided to get them for our wellbeing. We just returned from SE Asia and Vietnam is amazing!! Safe travels! Cheers!!🍻
That is a difficult question. One is on the coast and the other, for the most part, is not. We loved Romania and need to explore more of Croatia more than we were able to.
@@BrianandCarrie have you been to Indonesia? My wife and I have a month booked in Thailand, a month in Vietnam, and trying to decide on Indonesia or fly back to Thailand. This all starts January 1st. I’m not sure how bad the air quality is in Thailand in march so looking for options on affordable destinations.
Dear you two! @BrianandCarrie i have binge watched all of your videos. did i miss it or you haven't posted that what phone app or software you use to keep track of your money spending? Quicken is not good because it require me to pay yearly. :(
Croatia is great to visit , BUT the prices have skyrocketed the last 5-7 years. It used to be less expensive but overall since adopting the Euro last year, it's really the same price of Slovenia and Northern Italy now, so the pull to go there has dropped significantly. I don't know how the locals have adopted to these increases. Plitvice Lakes is a must see park, don't go mid summer, but no where like it and worth the out of the way visit.
Another great video guys. I was going to go to Croatia next (from Portugal) but I understand they are going Schengen on 1/1/23 and my 90 days will be up. Is that what you can confirm as well?
We have been doing the same thing you have been doing for 2 1/2 years so far. We take pride in being cheap, but eating out once in 2 months? Y'all get the gold medal. Weren't y'all tempted to try some local cuisine? $2000 a month is amazing!! I think I am going to make our goal $2000 a month next year. Right now we are at about $3000.
We had just spent 3 months in the Balkans and were looking forward to some home-cooked meals!! 😀 From what we have heard the cost of living in Croatia has gone up since they entered the Schengen last year. We have gone over that budget in our more recent videos but got back on course here in Turkey. Thank you for watching and safe travels. Cheers!!🍻
Hi Guys, Great video as usual. Good idea to get your vaccinations in Croatia. I use a VPN here in Spain all the time to watch shows on BBC iplayer and 7play in Australia. I just read recently that Croatia has been approved to join Schenghen so no longer an alternative for the 90 day rule. Have a nice Christmas and New Year with your families and I can't wait to see the vids from Southeast Asia.
@@BrianandCarrie If you feel up to it, some videos of where you are from would make good viewing. I have never been to the Pacific Northwest but am under the impression that it rains alot.

We did not get the DJI Pocket 2. I was waiting for the Pocket 3 but as you know it has yet to be released. I went ahead and got the GoPro 11 and think it will work really well.
Hey guys. Did you ever look into ObamaCare for your needs at home and getting cheaper insurance for international. Just curious. We will be slow traveling exactly like you guys and I am looking into this option. Thanks
We have not but are always open to anything that is less expensive and offers what we are currently getting. We will look into it! Thank you! Cheers!!🍻
You guys are going to Thailand next? We would love it if you could take note if the places you rent allow dogs. We'd be traveling with our two small ones and have no clue what Thailand is like for renting with dogs.
Honest opinion! We need to go back to Croatia. We don't feel like we did our best exploring that country. We had just spent 2 months traveling through Romania and needed downtime to work on editing videos. When we go back, we will do the boat cruise from Dubrovnik to Split. Spain is an amazing country that has everything that you look for, food, beaches, history, etc. The people were not the most hospitable, however. Thank you for watching and asking the question. Cheers!!🍻
Thanks Brian and Carrie for great overview videos! One thing we have done when planning a day trip to places like Dubrovnik, Split, Malaga, Gibraltar, and pretty much any place with a port in Europe is to look up the cruise ship schedules and pick the days when only 1 or no ships will be in port. The low ship days do exist almost every week and are key to a more enjoyable visit!! Did you make it into Plitvice and Krka national parks? Fabulous places! Lots of wonderful areas if you have a car. Safe travels and looking forward to your SE Asia vi ds!! Cliff
That is great advice Cliff!! We actually did that before our day trip to Hvar and something that we will be doing more of in the future. Thank you for the comment and for watching our channel!! Cheers!!🍻
Wery honest observation guys....only you're wrong abouth Dubrovnik....on whole med theres 3 towns you must see...Venezia-Dubrovnik-Athens ....If you realy want to explore Dubrovnik / untill yesterday Split was workers-army town...there's 3 pearls in med ....any way thanks
One of the things I love when we arrive in a new country is exploring the grocery store. It is fun to see all the different foods. I could spend way more time going through the aisles than Brian, not sure he enjoys it as much as me 😂.
How does it feel that people all around the world are making major life decisions based on your experience? Pretty, pretty powerful, I imagine. So here's one teeny thing I'd like you to "consider" adding as you finalize your summary: After all is said and done, based on your experience, what is "the one" place you'd call home if -- IF -- you chose to relocate permanently to each country you visit. You're like the Siskel and Ebert (when they were alive) of travel. You disagree on some things, you tell us like it is, no BS, and your followers can take your advice to the bank. Well anyway... When it's all said and done, that one place to call home in Croatia as relocating Expats, would be.... (and that's all I have to say on this topic. Many thanks.)
That is a great idea! We will be a "yearly travel cost' video here in a couple weeks and may include some of our favorite locations as well. Thank you for all the kind words!! Cheers!!🍻

Yes, however, we did do extensive research on both Split and Croatia. We also believed that our Airbnb would at the very least suit us for 2 months. There is always a risk when you slow travel and stay for at least a month at a time.

A weird question: Why do you keep saying "more affordable" rather then "cheaper". For example, you can say that buses are cheaper then ferries, nothing wrong with that, but you always say its more affordable.

Especially, In A Country As Beautiful As Croatia. The Following Croatian Landmarks, Cities And Island Pronunciations Are Facts: 1) "Marijan"= Mariyan (The "J" Is Always A "Y" Sound In Croatian!) 2) Trogir Is A Very Historical And Precious Croatian Island! Not A French One! But, Thank You Nonetheless! "Trogir"=Is Pronounced "TRO- GIR" With A Soft "T" And Soft "G,g"! (Almost Like "TRO-GEAR", Just A Little Shorter On The "Gear" Part! *Remember Actor Richard! The "G,g's" In Croatian Are Always A True Soft "G" Sound Like In The Word "Good"! Thusly, TROGIR = TRO-GIR! 3) Hvar=Pronounced HVar! (Please Remember There Is Only One (1) "A" In HVar! Certainly Not Two (2) "A's"! * It's Exactly Like Pronouncing America=AMerica, Or England =ENGland! 4) Dubrovnik=Pronounced Du Brove Neek! Always A Long "O" Sound! (When Pronouncing "Dubrovnik", Please Remember The "O" Is Always, Always A Long Vowel "O"! It Rhymes With Du "Grove + Neek= Only Du Brove Neek="Dubrovnik"! Remember The "Brov" Rhymes With "Grove" In Dubrovnik, Long "O" Sound! 5) Split=SPLEET, Long "E" Vowel! (Please Don't Split My City!) lol. Otherwise, Thank You For The Excellent Review Of Our Croatia!

Dubrovnik - I have found over the years that during the tourist season the old city has turned into a giant al fresco restaurant. All the promenades are covered with tables, serving food of varying digrees of quality.
Perhaps for this reason the taile nd of season is the best time to visit.
100% October is amazing. Still very sunny and warm most of the time, lower prices and waaaay less people.
I loved my time in Croatia, would definately be coming back
We will be heading back someday as well!!
As a Croatian I'm quite impressed with your pronunciation of our towns, I know that our language is a bit awkward for English speakers so I'm really glad you got most of it correct, Trogir being the mistake that I completely understand, it'd be read as tro- (ex. trope) gi- (example in gif not jif) and -r ( the same as the English suffix of -r)
I really recommend you see some of the more inland places cuz even though they're not as picturesque as our coastline we do have some amazing stuff, especially Slavonian food.
I’m slavonian so l have to agree 😊
Hahahaha
Nice! My wife & I spent 1-2 weeks in Croatia every summer and what you have spent per month we spend per week…good to know👍🇭🇷
You will be amazed how many places that cost the same to rent for a month, that they do for a week if you ask..
Specially if you are outside the hollyday season, it is very easy to find those prices..
A longer stay is deffently one of the best ways to get more out of the money..
Most places only have day or week prices, and if you talk to the owner about a longer period in the small places, they will 9 out of 10 times give a good price
I did that more then 1 time..
Every place we have traveled would be safe for a solo female. Just be aware and smart about your surroundings.
Thank you. Nicely shared. I am heading there this week and this gives a good flavour.
Thank you for the information!!!
Cheers 🍻
Thanks for your informative review of Croatia. A couple months ago I started my Croatian Citizenship By Descent. My mother’s parents and ancestors are from Croatia and I found out I qualify. I hired an immigration legal firm. The process takes a while and we just began. I plan to go in April and hope to meet other retirees there once I figure out how to find them. I won’t be working, of course, so not concerned with making money or getting a paycheck. It seems like an ideal place to me if you are retired.
That is awesome! Congratulations and thank you for watching, best of luck!

Cool video , I'm a Croatian , if you plan to come back and especially if you plan to spend a larger quantity of time again I'd suggest you stay in the Istra and Kvarner area (Istra , Krk , Cres)
There are plenty of more places to visit , a much better food to eat , ALOT more of inland exploring , ALOT of hiking if you wish , amasing towns such as Pula , Rovinj etc, and island of Krk and Cres are top noch to visit.

Matko gave you a great advice (Dubrovnik and islands Hvar, Brac, Vis) are super expansive. Next time try to fokus on Zadar area and towards Istra.
Thanks for the great summary, my wife and I discussed our plans for Croatia as we watched, very helpful. Can you do a video on planning for your SE Asia travel? (Entrance requirements, visas - I didn’t know you needed additional vaccinations!) Thanks!
Hi, Eric. We will be doing a video on preparing for SE Asia in the next couple of weeks. Thank you for watching!!

It took me a while to realize what you were refering to when you said ‘Trogir’. The ‘g’ in the middle is pronounced as ‘g’ in the verb ‘get’ in Croatian. Other than that I liked your video. You are very lucky to be able to live this lifestyle:-).
Thank you for the correction. We really appreciate the kind words and for watching our channel!

Great video by grown ups - a stark diffidence to mostly froth mostly on offer elsewhere
If I understand correctly as of January 01 2023 Croatia is officially part of the Schengen area. Merry Christmas, enjoy and cheers to your new adventures. We spent 3 weeks in Malta there is a lot to see if it ever comes down to searching for a place to visit.
Yes, Croatia is now a part of the Schengen! Thank you for watching and Happy holidays!!
What the hell does Croatia have with the "Soviet group of countries"? What are you babling about?

You should've visited Šibenik, it's a real gem!
Good to know! We will be back soon! Thank you for watching!

No, it isn't. It's a cesspool. A purger shithole.
And why is that dissapointing for you?
Being half Croatian myself , I would never say that it's worth it. if you go to the coast or the islands if you want peace then it is worth it . Croatia has low paychecks and the prices of nearly everything are as high as in the rest of the EU where it's double paychesck for the same job. So why would you do that to yourself. You can always visit Croatia. It's sad as it is like that as it's a beautiful country with corrupt politics .
Perfect description, I can confirm everything written down.
:(
Um, I doubt they work Croatian jobs.
Well, not every1 in Croatia have low wages. If ur one of the ppl that are earning good than is Great place to live.
Sooooo true!

Another great video guys! Shame they are joining the Shengen as it was going to be a an “out of Shengen” country on our upcoming planned trip. Croatia looks absolutely stunning, can’t wait to get there. Looking forward to your upcoming travel to SE Asia, when do you start your travels there?
Hi, Annette! We will leave for Bangkok the first week of January. Thank you for watching!!
Thanks, you two!! Safe travels!!

Note that Croatia is joining Schengen on Jan 1st 2023. Bulgaria & Romania were black balled by Austria.
So, what’s the strategy for a long stay in Croatia as a retiree? Please do a research and tell us how can you retire there for longer than 1 year! Thanks
Very good question - if we ever decide this is a place we would like to retire then we will do that research and put a video out covering it. Cheers!!
@@BrianandCarrie I can't wait!
Brian you didn't mention how much a 6 or 12 pack of beer cost 😔

Great video! Due to Brian health conditions or to your overall health, do you guys also take in consideration the level of stress when you travel? Also do you research about clinics/hospitals when you choose a destination?
We don't take health care into consideration at this point when picking a location. If we were to permanently settle down, we would research health care a bit further. Our health is actually very good besides the occasional use of an inhaler. Thank you for watching our channel!!

Hvar is an island, Hvar is just1 of many beautiful towns, on that island.
TROGIR and Mastrinka is better than split 5 min from airport..i am staying two years in row there.. and less turisty
Thanks guys - I love how informative and fun your videos are. Quick question: how long does your insurance allow you to stay in the US?
We believe with our plan we get up to six months a year. We will only be in the states for about 3 to 4 months in 2023. Thank you for watching!!
Cheers!!🍻
I guess you misssed out on seeing Korcula/Vela Luka/Lumbarda.....Great, if you're looking for peace and quiet, great coves, beaches, food...Less tourists and less expensive than Split, Hvar and Dubrovnik....
We did miss out on many locations that we wish we had the time and resources to experience. We will be back someday soon, so we appreciate the suggestions!! Thank you!

thanks for nice video again.
Bullshit. Why are you lying?
do you happen to have a website for that tourist medical office? yhanks
We do not. It is about a half mile from the old town center. It shouldn't be too hard to Google map it.
visit Zagreb and Osijek. Especially in Osijek you will find the best food in Croatia, since it is located in Slavonia:)
Thanks for the tips!
Don't be ridiculous
Hey thanks for the very informative video. We're contemplating a similar stay in the Fall of 2023. You mentioned there are no longer term visas that are easy to get - did you look into the Digital Nomad Visa for Croatia? I realize your stay would not have required it. Greece and Spain (in Jan) appear to have something similar.
Yes, we covered that in the video.
Thank you for the kind words and for watching.

nahhh croatia is much better than Portugal. Portugal has very evil people living in it...pedophiles. Research this. @@BrianandCarrie

Quick question, Romania or Croatia? If you had to choose.
That is a difficult question. One is on the coast and the other, for the most part, is not. We loved Romania and need to explore more of Croatia more than we were able to.

We've heard the prices have gone up. Unfortunately, we are seeing this most places we travel. Hard for the locals for sure 😞

Another great video guys. I was going to go to Croatia next (from Portugal) but I understand they are going Schengen on 1/1/23 and my 90 days will be up. Is that what you can confirm as well?
Yes, Croatia will be joining the Schengen starting Jan. 1 2023.
Ready for some more videos, to distract me from my soul-sucking career!

Grocery store shopping in any foreign country is a great experience, isn't it?😁
One of the things I love when we arrive in a new country is exploring the grocery store.
Cheers!!🍻
19:23 Pharmacy store that sold you those inhalers earns 35,000$ a month after taxes, when all is payed owner gets 35,000 on his hands and he has about dozen of them. I know this first hand.
How much owner of US pharmacy store earns a month? Please numbers someone?
Where did you Airbnb if I may ask
The last that we checked it was no longer available.
I made port calls in Split and Dubrovnik when I was in the Navy. LOVED them both, and look forward to slow-traveling there again.
Also, were you as surprised as I was by how TALL Croatians tend to be? I am not short in America, but I felt a little short there!
We look forward to going back as well. There is a lot there to explore that we didn't get to. Thank you for watching and safe travels!
Cheers 🍻
Ha! We didn't notice! 😆
@@BrianandCarrie I think that must mean that either Croatians have gotten shorter in the past 20+ years or that you two are on the tall side.
By the way, your videos are very helpful as I plan my escape. Oops, I mean plan my future travels. 😆
Thank you so much for the kind words and for watching our channel. The support is appreciated!
Thanks!
Thank you James! We really appreciate it. Happy Holidays!
What shots did you get for SEA?
Hi, Scott! That video will be out in a couple of weeks!!! 😀
Cheers!!!🍻
Would you recommend Croatia or Romania for a vacation in September?
The climate is really nice in Croatia that time of year. We prefer a beach vacation, but we did love our time in Romania.
Thanks
trying not to complain... but I wish that we Americans didn't completely destroy the pronunciation when we visit other countries: Tro-Gear for Trogir
🙄
Croatia is beautiful...4 grand for two month is wery affordable here in NYC borough of queen that will be just enough for one rent in single bedroom apartmant.....enjoy it. !
They could have gone even cheaper for sure but as tourists, they did it quite okay.
How far in advance did you book that Airbnb? And did you book it 1 month at a time?
For this Airbnb we booked last spring, we usually book out about three months in advance depending on the time of year. 🍻
@@BrianandCarrie Weren't you guys worried that you might be struck there for 2 months if the place wasn't what you were expecting?
Yes, however, we did do extensive research on both Split and Croatia. We also believed that our Airbnb would at the very least suit us for 2 months. There is always a risk when you slow travel and stay for at least a month at a time.
@@BrianandCarrie I've watched so many of your videos and I don't remember if you've covered this topic already about how to find the best Airbnb. I'll rewatch again if there is one.
Here is a link to a video that we did a few months back.

What B&B did you stay at in Split?
For many reasons one being owner request, we no longer give that information.
Trogir: g is not like in "gin" but like in "gone".
did u try burek sa sirom?
Unfortunately we did not. ☹
Wow you said medical care is really good...that is first time i heard this.. i would say our medical care is beyond horrible
A weird question:
Why do you keep saying "more affordable" rather then "cheaper".
For example, you can say that buses are cheaper then ferries, nothing wrong with that, but you always say its more affordable.
We have been called out many times for using the term "cheaper" so we say " affordable" instead. Just trying to keep everyone happy 😊
Cheers 🍻
Hello From Toronto, Canada
Thank You For Truly Lovely Overview Of My Beautiful Ancestoral Homeland, Croatia!
I Honestly Enjoyed Your Candid Overview Of Croatia!
If I May Add The Following, Please.....
Correct Pronunciations Of Countries, Cities And Islands etc. Are Absolutely Imperative, Especially After An Extended Two (2) Month Stay!
Especially, In A Country As Beautiful As Croatia.
The Following Croatian Landmarks, Cities And Island Pronunciations Are Facts:
1) "Marijan"= Mariyan
(The "J" Is Always A "Y" Sound In Croatian!)
2) Trogir Is A Very Historical And Precious Croatian Island! Not A French One!
But, Thank You Nonetheless!
"Trogir"=Is Pronounced
"TRO- GIR" With A Soft "T" And Soft "G,g"!
* It's Exactly Like Pronouncing America=AMerica,
Or
England =ENGland!
4) Dubrovnik=Pronounced
Du Brove Neek!
Croatia is expensive! I would never have guessed that! I was in Yugoslavia in 1983 ✌️😎. 40 bucks rt hvaar 😱😱😱. Ok.. Croatia is off my retirement list. Mexico is still hard to beat
It was more than we anticipated, that is for sure. Still many lower price options out there. We need to make it to Mexico still.
@@BrianandCarrie I've traveled to 40 countries...lived in 7. Mexico is hard to beat. Yes.. It CAN be dangerous. However riding the normal mode of transportation here in Thailand.. It WILL be dangerous. Every day! Too stressful here when using transport.
You said your health plan was $600 for 2 months?
Yes, we each pay $150 a month.
Split a big city?
Yes, bigger than we prefer.
Cheers 🍻
you guys need a website? 😉
It's nothing we're interested in having at this point. Maybe someday.
You guys pay so much for health insurance. Private medical 21:16 care is not that expensive in Croatia. You can get a complete health check in the private clinic is €175.
The US has very expensive health care!! We are paying less than we would be if we lived there full-time. 😠 Thank you for watching!!
Cheers!!🍻
You seem to “absolutely love” your time in any country, especially where there’s beer!😂
We for sure have our favorite areas....and beer does help, no doubt. Cheers 🍻
