Party-of-5 gopros quality is better. They have a trade up price. You trade in any old camera that retailed for atleast $100 in any condition and you get it for only $300

I always tell people just to get what fits best for them. Too many people get caught up in the sensationalism of "brand wars" and "rivalries" rather than just the devices.
    Apple vs. Android
    iOS vs. Windows
    Playstation vs. Xbox
People make these exaggerated videos about which one is "better" but what I like about this video is how you break down the devices side by side and allow the viewer to make their own conclusion--you aren't leading the jury. I always tell people to look at functionality, realistic usage, and budget whenever looking for equipment. Functionality because not everyone is a cinematographer and some people don't like a laundry list of features or settings because they just want to go from cam to computer or social media as fast as possible, meanwhile others are like me and do full-on production, and need the settings for specific shots.
Realistic usage is how often and in what way a consumer intends to use the camera; GoPro often separates their camera tiers by White (Basic/Entry Level) Silver (Moderate to Semi-Professional) and Black (Professional Videographer) in order to cover the market on all angles of realistic use. Not everyone uses these cameras the same way or for the same purposes, so each consumer's reason for purchasing one is not always the same--some want the waterproof option because they want to be able to take great beach videos or photos without worrying about their cameras, while others want at least six different aspect ratios, color balance settings, apertures, exposures, and built-in stabilization for motion picture style filming--once again, it depends on what the user wants.
Lastly, budget--GoPro handles this with their three tiers at three different starting prices, and being that DJI is just now breaking into the action camera market with the OSMO Pocket and now the OSMO Action, it might be their next move to create tiers for their cameras (or not, depending on their starting pricing and features). At the end of the day, it comes down to a combination of what a person is willing to pay for the ideal settings and features that best complements what they wish to get out of their action camera experience. I commend this review for not doing the stereotypical rivalry and lining up the cameras like it's Fight Night for the UFC like some of the videos I've been seeing.
You presented the product, showcased the details, and allowed the viewer to make their own mind up. You got a sub from me.

I think I prefer the quality with the GoPro, especially when you're on selfie mode: GoPro gives the right proportion of foreground/background and seems less saturated. On the other hand, the rock solid stabilization with the Osmo action looks amazing (my only concern being the 22% crop). I hoped the osmo action would be a game changer but it isn't IMO. Not sure which one I would pick!

    • @sdushdiu

If only selfie mode was worth it - why look art some Bozo's face instead of that which they are describing??? Screw the self-centered vlogging style and show that which is the subject of the dialog instead.

I actually use a gopro session 5 for filming windsurfing footage.
There is one big problem with the camera. It's the level of
intensity of the beeps that inform you that the camera is on or off.
I only film the important moments to save the batterie and the
sd memorie card. In high Winds it's very difficult to hear these
beeps. Wich beeps are the loudest ? DJI's beeps or Gopro's
beeps? Your answer could make me choose one or the over.
    Thanks

Will the Osmo action work with gimbals designed for GoPro cameras? If they are similar size and weight they should. Nice to know for sure. I guess Dji will bring out their own gimbal soon enough. Any idea on the price of extra batteries?

Nice review as always guys. Peter Mckinnon did a comparison and the EIS seems much better on the OSMO. What is your take on the EIS and will DJI likely add hyperlapse in the future as it is their style to add things months after release! I have an OSMO Pocket and wondering if I should replace with an OSMO Action. Thoughts?

    • @WeTalkUAV
      @WeTalkUAV  5 ปีที่แล้ว

EIS in the Osmo is called Rocksteady and is a bit better than Gopro's Eis (called Hypersmooth) don't worry about fancy names. Eis is eis, and is better in Osmo. Osmo Pocket has mechanical gimbal stabilization, doesn't need EIS.

As a FPV pilot All I really look for is Durability, need to be able to take a good bashing, crashing, tumbles etc. Gopro Hero 7 is the weakest fpv action camera I've used the back screen breaks so easy as does the lens. Also not a fan of the price tag. DJI if you are reading this comment this is what FPV pilots want something with strength. From watching this video I prefer the colours on the Osmo over the gopro but that just a personal opinion. New to your channel and liking what I see. Awesome job :-)

I think I like the standard colors of the DJI camera. I also already have a few drones so I think I would be more comfortable with the osmo action in an app. Although with the front screen, I think the app wouldn't be as necessary as it is with a GoPro.

I recently enter the action camera gig, cause i wanted to incorporate another point of view to my videos. I really dont think what DJI OSMO ACTION is offering is worth jumping from the Hero Black 7. If you have no action camera or you have an older version of gopro, they both offer good options, but i'll probably go with the OSMO Action just because is new. Either way both are great options for filmmakers looking for another camera for their bag.

You have your side-by-side shot camera names swapped. The DJI Osmo Actioncam is the one I am seeing on the RIGHT viewing side of my screen but you have it labelled as the Gopro. I figured this out due to the fact that your handlebar has the Osmo on the right side as it faces away from you. PLUS, the colour on the Osmo, in my view, is a bit lighter, especially when you look at someone's face.

  • @AbstractFilms
    @AbstractFilms 5 ปีที่แล้ว

If the Osmo Action had Hyperlapse I'd buy it TODAY. It would be an amazing feature to add into my real estate videos. I know it's a bit gimmicky but it's so much easier than shooting a time-lapse with a DSLR on a gimbal, color grading all the pictures in Lightroom, then converting everything to video through Photoshop or After Effects. I prefer the Osmo Action's colors/HDR video features and I want to hold off on the GoPro Hero 7. Hopefully TimeWarp makes its debut in a future firmware update, but until then I'm saving my money.

Stabilisation better on Gopro you can see how it shakes more with Osmo. Audio seems a bit better than GoPro but that's the only thing plus the selfie screen, good idea but wondering as well on batteries duration... who wins it? The gopros stabilization was still better and its colors are more pleasing to the eye 80% of the time compared to the dji. But the price in the dji for having a front screen for bloggers is phenomenal.

Color science and roll-off is miles ahead on the Osmo in comparison to the GoPro despite its stronger saturation.
    Stabilization is also way better.
    Kudos to DJI.

To me, not having a timelapse/timewarp/hyperlapse function is a dealbreaker when the two cams are so close in specs. Shame since DJI seems to have the timelapse/hyperlapse algorithm down pat with the mavics and pocket.

Interesting thanks for this review. I would love to see it mounted on a quadcopter that has a little vibrations as I've seen videos of the OSMO ACTION having very big jello issue with some vibrations. The Hero7 excels at killing Jello "rolling shutter". Without a new firmware solving this I won't buy the OSMO for my freestyle quadcopter. It would be great to have 2 level of stabilization available 1 croping 10% and one 20% so that we can chose depending on the activity, 20% crop like OSMO is useless for most of my shootings and it is reducing FOV and image resolution, it's just a waste of usefull pixels in my opinion.

So Chinese Technology particularly Drone and Action Camera overtakes now American Technology? How about the quality.. I dont usually prefer chinese brands because of a quality issues.. Is it worth the risk to buy this one interms of quality? Because before I always ended up disappointed with chinese brands as they can only be used in 1-2 years..

I think it would be better two times the same scene. Not left scene DJI and right scene GoPro. Would be better to compare.
Maybe even both cams above each other.
