This is an epidemic at Walmart for almost everything. People are constantly doing it with things like Marvel Legends by removing the BaF part, and often the figure and replace it with some old Toy Biz garbage.
One of the more recent problems is the 50 dollar G1 Optimus reissue being returned with a 6 dollar, non transforming die cast vehicle in its place.
I know a lot of people, hell probably most people, don't give a crap about Walmart "losing money" but when you're actually stealing from and screwing over your fellow fans, that's just pure shit.

I work at a Walmart and the marvel legends thing is a big issue. Recently people have been taking the UPC codes off of booster packs and legos and using them to make it look like they are ringing up bigger, more expensive items on the self checkout machines. It's very upsetting as a magic player and collector of all things nerdy, but management cant do much to stop it.

People do this crap with all kinds of products. I once bought a 2TB SATA hard drive at Best Buy and when I got home and opened it, I found an old IDE drive in the box instead. I drove back to the store to do something about it. They were very skeptical of me. My saving grace was when we opened another box from the shelf right there at the customer service counter and it had the same thing. The third box from the shelf happened to have the proper drive.

When I first got back into collecting hockey cards I didn't know any of this sort of thing, and one day found that Walmart had booster boxes from (at the time) three previous seasons ago (2010) for 39.99. The rookie class had Taylor Hall, Tyler Seguin, Evgeny Kuznetsov, Vladimir Tarasenko and several other extremely valuable cards so I thought why not and bought like 7 on pay day (like an absolute dummy). I found out later these were "redistributed" from a secondary source WITHOUT DISCLOSURE OF THIS after the distributor implemented certain measures to determine these boxes as completely worthless. And the combined value of the 14 autographed rookie pulls was a whopping 4 bucks...

This was before steam or anything like that, so without the disc it was useless. Someone bought it, removed the DVD, then resealed it and returned it. I still remember how betrayed I felt.

When I was new to MTG, I unwittingly purchased something like this. Of course when I opened it, the culprit left the booster pack (ripped open like a pack of wolves ate it), took all the rares, and the promo card (I didn't know what that was at the time). However, I was smart enough to know that this wasn't right and took it back. Walmart refunded me, but could care less that someone tampered with the box. Didn't even question if it was me or not. I now buy from local card shops.

  • @WickedDealer

The second products like this are bought and leave the store it shouldn't matter if there "open" or not it should be a No Returns policy, Walmart does it with Ammo, it should be the same with sealed card product as you never know if the returner is trying to scam other people.

    • @airbomb34

I never liked the idea of any big box store carrying specialty gaming products. It takes away from the LGS that actually build a community and causes shit like this cause the big box store doesnt give enough of a shit. Exception was ONE store, Toys R Us. Toys actually ran MTG/Pokemon/and YugiOh tournaments in their stores and fostered the community. Walmart/Target/and Amazon do nothing to actually expand the game, all they care about is the sale of the product and thats it.

This is a long problem. I've bought single packs as a splurge. Had four. Each individual pack was resealed and trash cards with no rares. Also boxing I was in a hurry I didnt check the pack inside from the outside. The packs inside the dominaria sleeves were from rivals and ixalan....
Not dominaria. I went to reexamine all the packs and damn near everyone was tampered with. I swear it. Do NOT go to Wal-Mart. For the love of God save yourself the time and money

I knew something was off when I looked at it, but if it wasn't for this video I watched beforehand I probably wouldn't have truly notice that im dealing with an resealed product. Thanks to this, my purchace hasn't been touched and I can return it and get my moneys back.

I wish I saw this video prior to buying a planeswalker deck for my son from Walmart. They only had one box, which is the one that I bought. The box was seal in a plastic wrap so I though... it was sealed. But I was wrong, when my son opened the box we realised that it had been tempered with. We had 90 card totals, but it was 45 mountains and 45 island. I am not quite sure why someone would go through that much troubles. The way I understand this, there is not much value in the planeswalker deck.. As you can imagine, Walmart doesn't want to take this product back, since we opened it...! @Alpha Investments, I love your videos!

it's a problem at all big box stores. Most workers don't really know what the product is supposed to look like when someone returns it, because the vendors handle all the merchandising. Wal-mart is the worst place not only to buy TCG things but video games with serial codes and even time cards. My son bought a few boxes for WoW TCG some years back and he opened them all the cards where lose in the box when they should have been in packs. Lucky, my X girlfriend was a manager there and she let us exchange them. one of her CSR notices the bottoms were torn a bit and saw what look like super glue on the bottoms. things like that are either workers stealing or Wal-mart is buying f 2nd hand crap shipped in from a China company. our local store sells everything from Pokemon to magic cards and you can buy like 100 cards in a clear box" none in closed packs" pretty much trash cards lol

I stopped after buying 5 of the mega YuGiOh packs for $30 each and found that they had all been resealed with all the cards that were worth a damn removed or replaced with junk. After complaining to the manager and showing them the obvious tampering (really obvious super glue reseal on the box), he said there was nothing he could do. As someone who has worked retail, this is what you're told to do. The customer isn't wrong. He clearly tampered with the packaging, but they tell you to give him his money back and take the quarter of a product back, repackage it, and sell it for full price. Not every location does this, sometimes they throw it in the bargain bin area where fucked up packaging items and stuff goes to sit for a discount. But not every Walmart does this. They know it's tampered, but for some bizarre reason they find that screwing over someone else who might buy it is better than losing the customer who is scamming them. Makes 0 sense.
