- A contagious variant of mpox disease has been reported for the first time outside Africa, in Sweden. The World Health Organisation has now declared it an emergency outbreak.

The disease - previously known as monkeypox - has been largely contained in the Democratic Republic of Congo where it's endemic. It now appears to have spread through Eastern Africa and into Scandinavia.

No, there's nothing to fear in developed countries as we have the resources to easily and quickly get this treated and under control. We already have the vaccine and treatments for it. It's only an issue in sub Saharan Africa, where healthcare is lacking

It obviously looks yucky...but the fatality rate for the disease is generally around 3% and that obviously applies to ppl with existing medical conditions and comes from countries with extremely basic health services...if any
