ive been making logos in blender for years now, and this turotial has saved me so much time. can't believe i havent seen it sooner. thanks you so so so much
svg is not the only vector based file you can import in blender in fact you can use .dxf wich also exports from illustrator and other vector based softwares. dxf ofers the ability to import the files with a unit of 1 wich in illustrator you can set as 1mm but blender will read it as 1, this is important because it doesn't alter any mesurments along the way, so if you want to 3D print a logo it will be at the correct scale you had set in illustrator. theres is also another way to clean up the mesh wayyyy faster by using a decimate modifier and select the planar option and applying it, any imperfections just do the process described in the video.
is there a point in the timecode where you do the converting of the center circle on the left into 2 ngones? I feel like those steps are missing...or I am missing something. BTW great video. Thanks for putting it up.
Definitely a faster option! If your shape has a hole in it, you'll still want at least 2 ngons to keep the hole to avoid issues when insetting to create a nicer bevel.
That is a much faster solution, though you’ll still run into issues if you want to bevel the shapes, depending on how clean or messy the vector files is
First time using blender and Missing some Big steps like how do you scale your size.. and how do you Get an over view? how do you Rename your parts of the logo in the right hand bar. right click does not give you any rename options. for beginners this video is to vague to make any real progress with my Limited experience with this program. how ever if i was experienced in this program this is exactly what i would be looking for to resolve this kid of issue.
Yeah my apologies, I created this assuming users already had a working knowledge of Blender to easily navigate around, but in the future I will try to make sure to show how I do things for newer users.

Hey Tom, I'm not sure exactly which moment you're referring to, as that timecode seems off, but in general you can select the faces you'd like to convert to an ngon and press 'f'. Let me know if that isn't what you are asking about and I'd be happy to clarify.
It doesn't work for me either as far as cleaning up the vertices and pressing "F" to make it a single ngon. I'm working on Blender version 3.4.1@@BlenderTutor
I believe that this specific vector file is possibly just messy before being imported, so maybe a better first step would be cleaning up in a vector program before importing. Also, it might be easier to redraw for simpler shapes, but for more complex logos, that would be pretty inefficient (either way this process feels like it could/should be smoother)
How can you add a logo to an existing 3 model to print flat on the model surface? For instance, putting a logo on a baseball hat or a logo on a football helmet?
Good day. Please, need help. Whenever I import my logo in svg format into blender, it removes the original colour of the file and turns it to black. What may I do to have the original logo colour back?
In Illustrator, Save as > SVG > (open automatically the window) SVG options > Advanced Options > CSS Properties > choose the option "Style Elements". This solved my colour problem. Also, make sure that, in Blender, you choose the option File>Import>Scalable Vector Graphic (.svg) and NOT "SVG as Grease Pencil".

@@BlenderTutor nevermind, i figure it out, there now two options to import svg "SVG as grease pencil" and "Scalable Vector Graphics" that's the one used in the video, don't know why there are two but that was it
2:35 This has nothing to do with the quality of the SVG file. Getting a really messy mesh is just the expectable result of turning an organic, smooth vector graphic into a body of stiff and edgy polygons.

I like the speed of the storytelling. Very easy to understand, for me as a German,

If I import my SVG in Blender I only got a black material and not colors, why?
Why the long cleaning of triangles? In mesh, edit mode, "select all" (A) then press F!
Definitely a faster option! If your shape has a hole in it, you'll still want at least 2 ngons to keep the hole to avoid issues when insetting to create a nicer bevel.
The best tutorial so far
...or instead of cleaning it manually for a few hours, you could just use decimate modifier and set it to planar.

I got a way faster than both of you guys. Thanks to 1 million tutorials I figured out the best method. 🤗

sad that the vector file is so damaged on import. Almost faster to just redraw it or trace it with splines - no ?
exactly lol

May i know the lighting setup and how do you make the color accurate to the svg
What about ones with art, like a poster or billboard

Think “shrink wrap” and find a video on that.
When I import a custom SVG I am getting a transperant wireframe type image...
When I go to add the solidify moddifer I have some parts that go the other way. How do I fix this?
blender need clean topology modifier like 3dsmax
Agreed!
It is very hard to understand what happens when there is a circle inside the characters, before fusion or merging... I could not get it.
