@@crobeastness Jehova’s Witnesses officially teach - as far as I am concerned - “sola scriptura”, even using the Protestant canon (the 66 books of Protestant bibles). That’s how far you can go in that path if it is up to you to interpret your own doctrines.
@@crobeastness I think this would be Seventh Day Adventist sect, that understands the writings of Ellen White are officially God-breathed and inspired directly by the Holy Spirit. But I am not entirely sure, my friend.
@b0ng Thanks for the help, my friend! It is really a thing that I should understand more adequately, as I said. But as I understood them (I do not want to be unfair, of course), there is this wide range on what they mean by “inspiration” - from God-breathed just as inerrant Scripture to the simple gift of profecy - but it is almost as certain as “de fide” that those writings were inspired according to their official teachings. The SDA are insanely anti-Catholic, yeah, but their theology is very systematic - they affirm “sola scriptura” emphatically, meaning “Bible alone” - and to a point even to make a consistent theory, not that solid as any of “sola scriptura” tradition. - although consistent in grave errors and bizarre interpretations (from a Catholic point of view).

Thank you Fr. Mike for supporting the Novus Ordo Mass. I belong to a very reverent Novus Ordo parish and we are ridiculed a lot by traditionalists. It bothers me a lot. I must pray everyday to remain charitable to these traditionalists. God help me.

In minute 31, I would interpret the "passing it" as being translating and passing it along to others. Even though I don't know Arabic, I wish more Catholic resources would be available in Arabic for a few reasons. For one, the Christians in the Holy Land tend to know Arabic. Secondly, Muslims learn Arabic because that's their religion's official language, regardless of whatever their native language might be. The more resources that are available in Arabic that can be accessed electronically, the more we can tap into a very large number of people who aren't Catholic. Some Muslims are just curious, especially while COVID limits many other interactions, and some of them have dreams or other things that draw them to the faith.
Here in Staten Island NY. we have Coptic Orthodox churches...services are in English Arabic and Coptic. I love their liturgies and long prayer services...I do have some Qurans...one has beautifull Arabic calligraphy with notes.
I wish I had Fr Schmitz in the seminary..he may had convinced not to discontinue my studies for the RC priesthood..he seems to be a happy person.

@@mitchellc4, I understand that a person of faith should want to guide people to the truth, but when you post this kind of thing in everyone's comments, it doesn't come across well. It looks like an inconsiderate invasion of someone else's page/video, since you end up posting more than everyone else combined.
As for what you said, we need to consider HOW people communicated various things in the Bible. Some things are said outright. In that respect, did Jesus ever say, "I am God"? I don't think so. But there are other ways people said things. When he speaks of coming on the clouds, he appealed to his divinity. When he spoke the several "I AM" statements, troubling those who didn't like the way he invoked a form of God's name. When people would ask who but God can forgive sin, but he did, there are countless examples like these that keep pointing to Jesus as God. And that's even before we get to things like "I and my Father are one", or "he who sees me has seen him", etc.
Just as the word trinity and many other things we believe aren't explicitly stated, the concepts, meanings, and intents are clearly there. Between the Bible, intense personal experiences, and what I've learned over the years, it would be extremely challenging to convince me not only that Jesus isn't God, but it would be hard to convince me that Jesus/God isn't in the Eucharist. I wish more people, including Catholics would recognize the reality of that Truth. I will forever cherish a special Eucharistic moment God allowed me to experience.
The fact that Fr. Mike’s catholic podcast is currently number 1 on the charts at the same as mass de platforming of non left orgs and individuals is such a sign that God is in all of this. Praying for your channel Matt. And anyone else who’s livelihood lies in the land of tech.

I love the Bible in a Year! As a cradle Catholic, I also felt guilty that my Bibles were bright and shiny and never read. I am now on day 16. I look forward to it each and ever day. I have recommended it to my friends, and they are now listening daily! Thank you so much!

My husband and I started listening to the Bible in a year for lent and will continue because it is so great!!! We are learning sooo much!!! We also just saw a series called “the Bible series” here on TH-cam for free (it came out many years ago) but it all makes sense to me now how it all connects. That podcast opened our curiosity and now we want to learn more. I think I will now order the Bible that he uses from Aucension presents to read along and highlight...etc. Also I agree with Matt when he explained why we sometimes don’t read the Bible, that was exactly me before the podcast, but now I want to read it again and again. I think I just needed some guidance.
Thank you Fr Mike for responding to The Lord’s call to do this podcast, the bible in a year. It is truly anointed. Several of my family members are also listening to it.

We have been listening to the podcast as a family every night at bedtime. It’s been amazing. Sure the kids sometimes don’t listen and act like kids do but they are still hearing the word of God before they sleep every night and I’m very thankful. Love you both!

Matt has been pretty-openly pro-Trump and right-wing. He interviewed Michael Knowles of the Daily Wire, the largest independent conservative media site, and did a whole hour long episode on refuting Catholic objections to voting for Trump. Trust me, even if the don't eventually come after people merely for expressing traditional religious values like pro-life and pro-traditional sexuality, they could get him for the Trump crap. This censorship tsunami is coming for everyone.

@Fr Mike, the format that the Jerusalem Bible is called a Readers Edition. While more are being released in that format., not many are Catholic Bibles.

It's great to see two people you love get along so well.
I think you guys are really nice guys. One of the few things I thought about was when you (Father Mike) mentioned how those with psychiatric disorders spend so much time denying and avoiding the realities of their issues. I think anyone whether they are mentally ill or not can struggle in avoiding realities in their life. To me there is a huge amount of ableist thinking within us and in society still today. I think we need more support in creating a safe and accommodating environment where everyone is supported based on their specific needs and not just for those who are neurotypical. I know for me I was in denial of my Schizoaffective disorder but that wasn't my fault either because that is part of my illness. But I was given so much support thank God and I have been able to move forward in my life. We need advocates for those who are in denial not based on how they are at fault for what they are doing but based on the care they need for their illness. People who are in denial with a psychiatric illness like mine need to feel safe so that they do feel comfortable sharing their struggles and getting the help they need. And I try to be an example to people in my life who actually don't have a psychiatric illness (but may have a personality disorder ) who are in denial by the way they treat others and themselves. Thats what really matters the most. I see myself back when I was ill and I wasn't doing anything to hurt people. I was just delusional so like Jesus said "Forgive them Father for they know not what they do". For those with personality disorders they do have some more awareness of what they are doing and how it's hurting others. But they still don't know to the fullest extent how they are hurting themselves by hurting others. With people like that you can't convince them to stop. You have to lovingly detach and live your life in the most loving and positive way. And sometimes God let's them see that and they make a choice to address why they aren't that way of positivity. By sharing our light in the world we heal the world from hate, and the seperation from God and others. Hopefully this was understandable. God Bless.

Listening to the Bible in a Year podcast has been a beautiful way to commute 20 minutes to work. More than once I’ve been moved to tears by the time I pull into the parking lot. Fr. Mike’s reading style brings the story to life. It’s full of emotion. And his comments are very insightful. So meaningful.

I love reading most of the Bible. It's great. But then I have always enjoyed ancient writing. The only parts I get bored with are the laws, the plans for the temple and the epistles.

When you say "Latin Mass" do you mean that everything is spoken in latin? Thanks
More or less, yes. The Kyrie is in Greek, the readings and Gospels are read in Latin but typically read again in English, and the homily is also in English. Usually, Latin Mass churches have little red books that help people follow along. Honestly, its a little intimidating the first couple times but after that its beautiful and frankly, life changing

so you guys are watching sit coms and i sit here enjoying watching multiple episodes of you guys.lol. but my comment ok i was born in 48. so that grew me up in the latin mass. i am very glad about that. i have my aunt's old missal from 1916. the referencing helps. but i frequent the mass all over the world. i watch fr mikes, i watch the pope's,, i watch the one from lourdes, i watch several from france. my french is wobbly but i can understand what they are saying. i am trying really hard to stick with the spanish because in california that is a plus. my puzzlement is that some of the french are in a combo of both french and latin and they frequently recite the confiteor in the beginning of the mass. i think i am realizing that there is not just one format anymore, so i have to be cognizant of which format i am watching. there is a great commonality to all, the old and the new. and i believe there is a great benefit to be familiar with all the formats in as many languages as possible. where the latin did use to be the universal language of the mass, the eucharistic narrative is the commonality, no matter what language, the substance remains. i think this is one of the goal's that pope francis has in mind. we are a multicultural world in all its colors and definitions, where the formats of the mass may vary , the message is beautiful and eternal. thank you both.
