I've seen a few builds here and there and basically the conclusion is that it wouldn't get much farther than the boosted 4 cylinders they already had on tap.

Bought an outback with the 3.6 as the family hauler and it's worked great in that role, but it bugged me the otherwise unique sounding engine is muted most of the time, and even when it's a bit louder after 3.5K revs, it's still too darn quiet. The replacement family hauler we got (an Odyssey with a J35 V6) is actually louder when revs climb, which I find hilarious. I do love the EZ36, it's very smooth and it fits the character of the outback really well. Going from a frenetic manual hot hatch daily driver to this is exactly what I wanted for being stuck in and dealing with city traffic.
Now relieved of it's family hauling duties and just being the dad car, I have no intention of tuning it, but am looking for an excuse to give it a slightly less muted exhaust. Those pulls you filmed from the inside of the car where helpful in confirming the idea of what I want.

Blue + bronze, so classic. Unfortunately just as Subaru figured out how to build a good engine that doesn't blow up they went to the CVT dark side. Imagine if, starting 15 years ago, Subaru leaned more into their rally heritage and made sporty models of their cars (and gave the WRX the attention its been lacking). This car would really wake up with a dual-clutch and some tight suspension. Subaru's 3.6 six and various turbo models have a cult following because it's so easy to get power out of them and they drive decently well. Subaru missed their chance.

    • @Xaluber

Missed their chance at what exactly? Their sales exploded since they switched to CVTs. The average person cares way more about fuel economy than what the transmission feels like, and the fake shifts are convincing enough for most. Get a manual if you want something sporty.

What mid pipe did he use, from the Raptor Headers, to the catback, eg between the headers and Catback, it’s a twin mid pipe out from the headers to the catback exhaust, I’m having trouble finding a replacement, on my EZ30R, I currently run Raptor headers (stainless) to a steel custom made mid pipes (CL deletes) as could t find an option, that then mates to the stainless catback (XF) and I hate it, it’s raspy and loud as fck, car needs a retune. The Raptor headers def add more torque look great and are well made. But the mid pipe and I can’t find a a Subi 6 cylinder option on Nameless site, let alone a dual mid pipe option from anyone. Any help guys would be appreciated cheers.
This 3.6R is what I’d like mine to be more like in terms of sound loudness, mine seriously gives STI drivers and V8 drivers the cringe it’s more like a full on track race car sound but has a raspyness I hate, just not that smooth sound ya get from an Invidia or this Nameless

I dunno man. I've been itching to line up my 14 3.6R Limited Legacy and out 17 WRX 6MT that's stage 2+ tuned. I'm sure the WRX is quicker as it puts down about 300whp, but the 3.6R pulls and is no slouch. This Legacy doesn't feel like I'm reaming it out to get up to 80 pretty quick, where the FA20 DIT does feel like you're just pushing it hard to do the same thing. But that's the difference between a small displacement turbo vs a large displacement N/A motor.

Anyway, it's when you enable ACC, are fully stopped and set a cruise speed. Hold mode engages which allows you to get off the brake pedal because the car is holding the brake for you. You can now hover over the throttle pedal and instantly mash it when the light turns green while your opponent has to waste time getting off the brake pedal and then onto the throttle.
Thus, a poor man's launch control.

@@jamesg8246 I completely agree. I just sold my 2005 GT wagon(manual), I had bored the block and decked heads, bigger pistons(putting more low end, and higher compression), still stock turbo location, anyway, full pro tune and made 330whp, 325ftlbs, the car ripped. My wife has a 2017 outback 3.6r. The outback feels like an absolute tank in corners, handling, but man off the line, and 35mph-80mph its pretty damn quick! Honestly impressive for stock I feel.

@@sleeper.simulant7327 Yeah, just surprising it sounds so much like a V6 when Subaru’s flat 4s sound nothing like an inline 4. I’ve driven a stock 3.6R Outback and the induction noise inside the cabin was distinctly more flat 6 sounding than this car from what I remember.
