    I just added Uber eats to my door dash work. I used it Thursday and Friday and Saturday 4:30-8:30 and only accepted one order for the three days. Reason was doordash kept me really busy all 3 days and uberceats orders weren’t that good. So I only have one order under my belt. Then when I finished the 1 run my total tip was only half of what it was supposed to be. So I got right on support. In several hours I had the full amount.

    • @gigworkmama
      @gigworkmama  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Wow, hopefully it picks up for you. But that's great that DoorDash keeps you busy in your area.
      Also, good for you for calling support about the tip bait. That's a major flaw with Uber Eats.

    Biggest tip: no strategy will overcome a bad market.
    I'm in the military and the town where I'm stationed at, to put it bluntly, sucks. Low income, nothing but fast food and the market is probably oversatured.
    On the flipside, whenever I go home for leave I make much better money because its the exact opposite: middle class with some rich pockets and more sit down restaurants.

    • @gigworkmama
      @gigworkmama  ปีที่แล้ว

      You do make a great point. Some markets are just not worth it. If someone sees that they're not making money while implementing good strategies, they need to pivot.

    Hi: Almost two years ago I did Uber eats for 10 days and I was averaging about $90 total per day . Since two weeks ago I have been doing Uber eats in Toronto and my total per day is between $55 and $80 total and it cost me $30 for gas. The tips I get is between $4 and $14 per day. I am usually on the road between 7 to 8 hours and I am on the app about 6 hours. There is a big difference between what I am making now and what I earned two years ago. Two years I was getting a fair amount of tips but hardly any these days. In Toronto I sometimes face traffic issues and a number of times I have to deliver in apartment buildings which take more time. I try to be careful on the road so I don't drive as crazy as some other drivers. I just started about two weeks ago so probably things may improve as I make some adjustments. Your feedback would be appreciated.

    • @gigworkmama
      @gigworkmama  ปีที่แล้ว

      The problem with Toronto is that it's so big and there's ALWAYS traffic (I lived there before). Do you stick to a specific area? Do you decline the bad orders? Are you multi apping?

    • @stevenfrancis9153
      @stevenfrancis9153 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Today I declined a number of $3 and $4 and $5 orders. I usually start at Wilson and Keele and today the trips were short and they were mostly concentrated between Wilson and Eglinton and Keele and Bathurst.I did 7 deliveries in that area including a pickup at Yorkdale Mall which took me about half hour to get it from the Food Court. There is a blogger that says we should try to do 4 deliveries per hour but that is not possible in Toronto. Later in the day I was just tired of being in the concrete Jungle so I went up to Highway 7 AND Weston Road and I got a double order to deliver from that area, ist delivery was at Bass Pro Mills and Second was at King Road in King City, about 17 km for a sum which when you consider the gas to go there did not amount to much. I have insurance specific to include Uber Eats so If I did other apps I would not have adequate insurance. Your comment would be appreciated. Today I earned $62 total for about 8 1/2 hrs work. It is just totally ridiculous.Your suggestion would be appreciated.@@gigworkmama

    • @gigworkmama
      @gigworkmama  ปีที่แล้ว

      I've been thinking about this for a bit because I feel really really bad that you did so many hours but didn't make a lot.
      I don't get 4 orders in an hr. That's a high amount of orders. I'm assuming their territory is small.
      I wouldn't pick up in any malls in Toronto. The time spent to navigate inside the mall would be high.
      17 km in Toronto is such a time killer. That would take forever.
      Can you inquire about having the insurance that covers the other apps? I don't know how that works there.

  • @ksd33
    @ksd33 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Also, as someone who has ordered from both DD and UE, the latter explicitly gives an opportunity to increase the tip after delivery, so it makes sense that they often DO increase it. That’s another reason it’s superior because DD makes it hard and definitely doesn’t suggest increasing the tip!

    • @gigworkmama
      @gigworkmama  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Surprisingly, DD now has the option to add to your tip after delivery. I heard it's super easy now.
      But the initial suggested tip is always lower on DD.

    • @TraciHoman
      @TraciHoman ปีที่แล้ว +2

      the drawback with UE is the customer can also decrease the tip after delivery. I think that option should be removed. Several times I've had the tip go away after I delivered, but no complaint so I can only assume they click baited me.

    • @gigworkmama
      @gigworkmama  ปีที่แล้ว

    Question how do I know if the order is coming with hidden tips . When I check is just give me the total for the trip with estimated tip

    • @gigworkmama
      @gigworkmama  ปีที่แล้ว

      This is def not an exact science and may fluctuate but, in general, if the order is a short distance away (like 3 km or less) and it comes in at 11$, there is a big chance that there's a hidden tip. Uber generally hides tips over 8$ and 5he base pay is usually 3$. If the order is about 5km away, then it might come in at 11.something or 12$. That might be a hidden tip as well since Uber pays more the further you go out.
      For shop and deliver, I haven't found a number yet to indicate a hidden tip. The base seems to fluctuate between 12 and 15$. So 8$ above that would be an indicator.
      But as I said, Uber is the company that fluctuates our base pay the most. So, always take an order at face value and if there's a hidden tip.... Yay 🎉

    I drive with Uber eats and the other day I had my plus card declined and even my regular card on my Google pay declined when I had the funds for some reason and I had to use my physical card to pay and I called the Uber eats customer support and I still need to call customer support back for my refund but I have no clue why it declined my Uber eats plus card and when I called Uber support they said that they had happened to others as well for some reason? So why is the acceptable if this is a card provided by Uber to the driver's who want to pick up shop orders? Makes me feel uneasy picking up more shop pay orders as I am worried about my darn Uber eats plus card getting declined and having to cover the costs that could be greater than I can afford?!

    • @gigworkmama
      @gigworkmama  ปีที่แล้ว

      That's so weird that it declined on you. The Rep wasn't able to load the card? Or they said it was loaded but it still declined? That's so annoying especially if they didn't pay you back yet. I saw another person on TH-cam mention that they pay out of pocket often but gets reimbursed quickly.

      DD now has 13 million drivers on the road. They definitely push the AR. I recently took the AR reset they offered. I haven't driven as many hours DD as I have started UE. My AR reset gave me 100% starting Aug 1. Yet just in a short 3 weeks my AR is back down in the 40% to 50% range. DD does not stop sending bad orders to higher priority drivers. There is just such volume of trash orders. I am not taking 2, 3, 4 dollar orders. Four dollars for 2 miles may be a high paying order according to DD, but it still takes minimum of 15 minutes to complete. If I do 4 of those in an hour yeah that is 16 dollars but I am trying to do MORE than 20 dollars in an hour. Some companies like Panda Express in my area are starting new employees at $15/hr. I get a crap ton of shop and pay orders on DD that will take minimum 1/2 hour time. DD is offering me 5 or 6 dollars sometimes less that for that time. It's a bad trade. DD says you can have Dash anytime by completing so many shop and pays with certain accuracy. At the same time, if there is an out of stock/substitution problem, it takes even longer.
      As for UberEats, I have had an offer for $1.66 there is just no way I am taking that. Most of the shop and pay orders I get from UE are also 30 to 45 minutes time paying 5 or 6 or 7 dollars. I just decline and go on to the next. I actually had UE send me the same S&P order like 5 times. The only way the offer changed was to go LOWER because another order I was on took me closer to that store.
      It should not be on the customer to tip more than a reasonable percentage of their order to get a driver to want it and take it. It should be on DD and Uber to fix their base pay model so that drivers want to take the orders. As quickly as DD and Uber have grown, they can certainly afford to do it.

    • @gigworkmama
      @gigworkmama  ปีที่แล้ว

      You are 💯 on that last part. They should def fix their base pay. However, that's not the case so we have to make the decisions that are right for our business.
      I cringe everytime I get those low shop and pays. Like..... Really.... You want me to shop and only make that much.
      There are definitely a lot of shortcomings when it comes to DD and Uber Eats. The food thing is that we still get to choose which offer is right for us. 🙂

    Uber eats is just superior. The thing that bugs me the most with DD is their "prioritizing" high acceptance rate drivers. In other words, it is unprioritizing all the rest of us.
    I log in every day for an hour, and maybe take 2 orders a week. I have a 2% acceptance rate and haven't seen a $2 a mile offer in months. It will take me 20 hours of driving basically for free just to get an acceptance rate that doesn't unprioritize me...
    Or I can log in to Uber and start getting good paying orders immediately. Like what is DD thinking? Am I gonna drive 50 cent a mile orders taking me miles outside my zone for half a week? Or am I just going work with Uber?
    Then DD has the pay per hour feature. Which might sound good, until one realizes how DD is doing it... keep all tips, except they just non-stop offer no tip orders and 40 item no tip shop and pay. I did an entire shift just to see; 25 deliveries, 165 miles and $14 in total tips for $0.62 per mile... a $6 an hour day after expenses. Just nuts.

    • @gigworkmama
      @gigworkmama  ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh my goodness Eric. That DD hour pay shift was HORRIBLE. It's not in my market yet but I've seen other TH-camrs do it. Some have a good experience, others, not so much.
      And yes, DD is really prioritizing high acceptance rate people most. But I feel like I still see a decent order every now and then. But they are def far and few in between.

    I wish Uber eats was busier in my market… doordash is king here but I prefer Uber Eats partly because base pay tends to be better and partly because of some of your points here (schedule, AR, etc). Although my app currently tells me my AR is lower than average in my area and I can’t get it off my screen!

    • @gigworkmama
      @gigworkmama  ปีที่แล้ว

      That's really weird that it doesn't come off your screen. I don't know what my average is. That'll be a cool stat to see actually. Wouldn't impact my decisions to complete an order or not but still good to know.

  • @MrFreeze79
    @MrFreeze79 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I definitely prefer uber eats to any other app. No scheduling is perfect for just starting anywhere you want, anytime you want. With doordash I always get orders that take me out of my area and then I have to drive back. 😢

    • @gigworkmama
      @gigworkmama  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Exactly. The fact that you don't have to schedule is AMAZING! DoorDash is always trying to pull people away and send them really far. Then, with the hidden tips, you don't know if it's actually worth it.

    Dudett i’m sorry to break it to you and to many other people this is not your business. This is just a 1099 contract and you can be terminated at any given time which y’all know is deactivation therefore it is not your business you can cause some thing through your business when it’s your own product your mark your own seal, your own label and nobody can deactivate you or blacklist you. That’s the truth.

    • @gigworkmama
      @gigworkmama  ปีที่แล้ว

      You are 100% right. We can be deactivated at any time. But I have to disagree that this is not our business. We can decide which contract we fulfill, we have expenses that we can claim, etc. With your definition, any 1099 person doesn't actually own a business.
      In this case, my contract is with the apps. Meaning I choose to not go against the terms of the contract. I still have the choice.
      I also have my own business that is my own product. I have contracts with my clients. If either of us break the terms and conditions that we signed on, we have broken said contract. My client can "deactivate" me if I break the terms. Same with these apps.
      The problem is that a lot of people put all of their eggs in one basket and still have an employee mindset while dealing with these apps.

      Wow, that's exactly what I used to do when I was driving very often. I would do about 3 hrs at night (some evenings) but then all day on the weekends.

    @gigworkmama Im asian. I feel like customers hate me for being asian. Please give me more info and ive learnt that I should have gone and stayed where are the busiest area at so I can get more orders for a shit customer. Im trying to reach 270 trips so I will have completed my ubereats offers

      I'm sorry you feel that way. I don't think customers tip based on ethnicity. They don't see the driver that's assigned until after the order is placed.
      I would suggest studying your market. Know which restaurants has good offers. Know which area the customers tip well. Stick to a certain threshold for what you want to make per distance or time. For example, I won't do less that 1$/km when it's slow. When it's busy, that goes up.
