Joe have you heard of the Race chip programming chips for the Mavericks, gas mileage and horse power gains to be had? I thought if it interested you, you would review it and tell us if it worked. Thanks 👊🏽😁
Yeah I've actually been in touch with David Buschur of Buschur racing. They already have an intake, catch can and oil separator out for the maverick and he has an exhaust and tune that he's been working on. He's seeing great gains from the tune, exhaust and intake. Once he finishes the tune he expects the gas mileage and performance to be a nice bump with the intake and exhaust.
Nice truck. I like the maverick and wouldn't be opposed to buying one for myself or my wife but I would have to put conditions on the purchase. If I am going to spend money on lift/tires/and other offroad goodies then I really have lost the point of the maverick and should just buy a ranger and be more capable from the start. What is attractive about the maverick is the escape platform ride quality, the mpg, and the price while still keeping utility.
All I did was add a 2 inch lift and tires and now its perfect for what I need. The only think I can see myself doing to it past what is already done is a small bull bar. I still spent significantly less than if I were to get a ranger with the FX4 package.
@@AverageJoeTexas On fords site a Maverick XLT with fx4 and tow package msrp is $29270. If you added tires and wheels you add another $1k plus the lift kit plus alignment after lift plus you lose mpg unless you went the same size tires. A Ranger XL supercab (not the full cab) with tow package and 101a comfort package starts at $31250 msrp and probably has more ground clearance and being full frame is tougher overall. The maverick doesn't gain a rear locker in fx4 trim so arguable the ranger probably still will perform better. If you need the full four doors and need the full xlt package then a ranger fx4 with tow and supercrew is about $38K but for the $6k difference you get a real truck with higher tow capacity, rear locker, skid plates, and more power. All I am saying is the mavericks strengths are its price, size, ride, mpg, but if you lose the mpg and start raising the price with addons and such there may be other options that are within reach that make more sense. Just depends on how you plan to use the vehicle. The sad part is they had the tech for additional rear traction in the bronco sport with its twin clutch rear drive. They should have made that unit as part of the mavericks fx4 package since they share the same platform. I'm sure this was how they planned to keep price down. The target for the maverick is to compete with the santa cruz and compete with small suv options as well. I think its going to be a top seller especially the way inflation is going to hit us in the next couple of years.
@@spyder000069 tires were 800, lift kit I installed myself and cost me 525 and the alignment was free. And yes I would need 4 doors. So I'm happy saving the money I did and this truck with how I have it now does everything I need it to. I don't need the extra towing and hauling ability. And even a few thousand bucks is enough to make payments not manageable for an average guy like me. So if you have the ability to spend the extra cash for the ranger then I say go for it. I did, but I knew I wouldn't fully utilize everything I'd get for the money. So I got this, did the two mods I've done to it and am good with it. Technically speaking you're right. But clearly you look at a few grand as marginal where as to others it could be the very reason they couldn't afford the vehicle.
I ordered a Maverick because if I’m in the mid 30s after mods at least I have a truck that I made my own way. If I just buy a ranger for that price I wouldn’t have money for mods

Mine are 245s and its already on the edge of looking too small so I would say yes. I went with this brand because I've known too many people who have had issues with other brands and always ended up with a lift from fordrangerlifts. The parts just seem better quality, better welds and there is an actual person you can get in contact with if you ever need assistance.
@Average Joe Could you take some pics of the rear suspension? I'm looking to add the awd rear suspension to my hybrid. I like the design of the awd better even if it doesn't get me awd.
I have 2 3rd gen tacomas and was thinking to maybe trade one in for a maverick since my gf doesn't need a lifted 4x4 truck to go to the beach but it wouldn't put much money in my pocket so I guess I'll just keep my tacomas. Awesome little truck though. I haven't seen one in person but I like how it looks in your video. Also I live in Hawaii so it would probably cost a little more than 30k
Like your video and mod. Question? Are you aware of the 2023 Tremor Maverick supposedly being introduced? I am new to off-roading, and was wondering if you thought it would be quite capable? I've seen a bunch of different youtubers post reviews and opinions on the Bronco Sport Badlands, and I'm starting to believe this new, proposed Maverick Tremor will be very similar. Love to hear your thoughts since you have what you have, and have lifted it and have the AWD Ecoboost. Thanks ahead of time :-)
I would have ordered the tremor, but they did not offer it with 4k tow. I am installing the same lift from fordrangerlifts on my maverick and putting on the same size tires as this vid
I wonder why not go with the Ranger 4x4? The Ranger is an off-road beast and can be a lot better with the right parts and mods because it's actually a truck, the Maverick is not really an off-road 4x4 truck to start with. It's a uni-body car with very light-duty parts made for max fuel economy. Seems fine if you just want the looks of a 4x4 truck. js
Go look at the price difference for what you just listed. Also I do not need more capable off roader. The extent of my off roading is only when I'm hunting. And this maverick does what I need it to and then some. And that gas mileage is real nice on the drives to and from hunting. I'm happy with this truck all the way around. If someone wants to spend another 8 grand to get an xlt 4x4 ranger because it's an "actual truck" then go for it. I'm good with what I have and happy with how it performs.
@@AverageJoeTexas I was just asking. I like the Maverick, I'm probably going to buy one soon. I do a lot of weekend traveling (all highway) and have very little (maybe 400lbs of) gear to haul. I want maximum mpg so I will go with the FWD Hybrid. Probably an XL and have the cruise control added aftermarket. My thought was if I needed a 4x4 I'd find a used Ranger FX4 for about the same or less money $$.
The FWD has a totally different rear suspension than the AWD version. The FWD 2 wheel drive gets a twist beam trailing arm rear suspension where the AWD gets a fully independent multilingual rear suspension. The motor and transmissions are also very different between the two. The FX-4 option also gets some more body structure welded into the body to accommodate the front recovery or tow hooks. The FWD has only a 2000 max tow rating with the 4 pin connector, the AWD gets the 4,000 max tow rating with both the 4 pin and 7 pin connector plus the trailer brake controller mounted on the lower left side of the dash board.
What did you end up putting in the cubby next to the screen?😆 (not the tissue paper part) Also what are your thoughts on leveling kits and possibly adding it to the front of your maverick ?
This is still my daily driver. All I wanted was a little more clearance when I'm out hunting. 2 inches is more than enough. The only "off roading" i do is work in my hunting area or to retrieve an animal in my hunting area. Now this does that more than comfortably.
I wanted a neutral color that doesn't stick out when I'm hunting. Idk about everyone else. That and I live in Texas so having dark colored cars is hell in the summer.
They do come in Black, metallic blue, metallic silver, that Area51 blue, a dark grey metallic, metallic dark red and white. They also have a metallic orange/yellow color.
Not at all. Because I would have to spend 20k more on a bigger truck I really don't need when this does everything I need. I had 2011 ranger sport (last year of the old body style) and loved that truck to death. Only reason I got rid of it is because in Texas, good trucks that are 4x4 and in great condition are always at a premium and someone offered me way too much for it. This truck is what I was hoping the ranger would come back as when it came back to the states. So I'm good with what I have.
I do not and I have no plans on getting one. I just personally don't feel that I've ever needed one or had a use for one on this truck or any of my past trucks.
Ive talked to ford coorprate. They told me if I adjust the truck in anyway it will void the manufactures warranty. Thats just want Ford coorprate told me.

Could you put something like this on the hybrid?
This kit no. The suspension is different.
How's the ride quality now?
And did you feel a change in the steering?
Feels exactly the same and not at all.
I feel like this is what I needed to see in order to finally make up my mind on buying a Maverick! Thank you kind sir! That’s one badass truck
Much appreciated good sir!
beauty !
Thanks!
With the lift, why not just get a ranger? Same mpg?
That would be an extra 8 grand for the comparable spec'd ranger, more truck than I need, and worse gas mileage.
@@AverageJoeTexas gotcha
How's it been affecting ur mpg?
I talk about it in the video!
Do you have a bed cover/tono? (curious about that for mpg)
I do not and I have no plans on getting one. I just personally don't feel that I've ever needed one or had a use for one on this truck or any of my past trucks.
I don’t know if you mentioned it in the video, but what size tire are you using?
I do. 245/65R17
@@AverageJoeTexas thanks. It’s a great looking truck.
@@nealmcgarry5283 thanks! I'm really loving it so far! Just passed 7000 miles yesterday
Would this work with the hybrid Powertrain?
No they have a different suspension set up.
How much to install the lift kit?
Did it myself.
The Maverick needs the lift i think Factory its not enough and to me is more like a car.
I agree, but more of a car with a truckish feel is what they were going for. Now that I have the 2 inch lift on I think it's great
What tires are these?
will this lift kit work with the Hybrid model as well?
No. The suspension is different on front wheel drive models
Is this the hybrid or Ecoboost?
Hybrids don't come with the FX4 package
How much did it cost to lift it or did you do it yourself?
I did it myself. The lift cost me $525
Does it void the warranty?
Nope
Ive talked to ford coorprate. They told me if I adjust the truck in anyway it will void the manufactures warranty. Thats just want Ford coorprate told me.
@@JifferRiffic I talked to a dealer. They allow lifts on rangers and f150s and they didn't see any issue with the lift on the maverick. This was from the service department of 5 star ford I bought it from.
@@AverageJoeTexas that’s what I thought Ford where gonna say as well, but they told me because it’s not a body on frame, technically it would destroy the warranty. They told is the same thing with My wife’s Bronco sport too. Maybe this place is losing their minds…
@@JifferRiffic took it in for an oil change two days after I did the lift. Some workers complimented me on it after the oil change so idk 🤷♂️
How much does a lift affect mpg
I talk about it in the video!
This really hammers home just how tall the front end of the Nissan is. That nose is WAY too big for a "mid size pickup". Capability of mid-size, visibility of a full size, worst of both worlds!
You would think they would of made at least the "offroad" package like this.
