    I had a little acne during my mid teen years, but nothing that really affected my self esteem. Now, as a young adult, my acne is suddenly much worse. It’s to the point that I don’t like looking in the mirror, feeling the texture of my face, or even going outside of my house. I’ve no idea why it’s gotten so bad so quickly. Like you, I don’t want to go the route of intense antibiotic treatment or chemical ointments. I just don’t think they’ll help me in the long run, nor do I like the possibility of adverse side effects. I have considered seeking holistic help, and your video has really solidified that desire. Thank you so much for sharing your journey and giving such helpful advice!💕

    Just came across your video today. It’s been a very hard day! My daughter is struggling with acne and this whole day I’ve been asking God for wisdom on what to do. I too believe in holistic methods and eat organic. Watching your video today gave us the answers we’re looking for. Gonna book an appointment with a natropath doc on Monday. I don’t believe in traditional western medicine anymore and haven’t in a while. Thank you so much for sharing your story and I pray one day my daughter will also share hers. I love how you didn't take any heavy medication or any skincare because as you said during acne our skin is already so irritated and I have realised that it gets worse after applying skincare or any harsh product .
    I've had acne from the past 2-3 months and i tried medication and different ointments but it only made it worse. I stopped applying anything, I didn't even wash my face with face wash, just Clear water and it started getting better and I still have some on my forehead but I know it will go away . I think it's all about trusting the process ! But it definitely can take a toll on your mental health 💔

      @@Xoprettycam Hi Cam! My skin is still doing so much better! I have noticed some acne will come up if I'm not paying attention to my diet or not keeping up with my lymphatic drainage. Usually too much sugar is when I'll notice some pimples pop up, but then I just adjust my diet accordingly and make sure I'm being mindful of my diet :) I also will celery juice occasionally if I see any pimples. Now that I understand more of WHY it's showing up, it's a lot easier to manage and quickly resolve any acne if it comes up! But in general, it's still so much better! I'm about a full year out from when I cleared up my skin perfectly, and I think doing a routine heavy metal detox once a year might be what I start doing as sort of a maintenance, but we'll see! 😊

    I know you said many times the diet didn’t clear up your acne it was the supplements but then around 19:00 mins you said that they found ingredients linked to your heavy metals in your system that were found in pesticides, so eating organic was important to you. I’m not shaming you in any way I’m just trying to educate you from someone who grew up on a farm and is getting their masters in Agronomy, those same ingredients are found in organic pesticides as well and it actually takes more pesticides to raise a organic crop than it does conventional crops so please don’t fall for the marketing scam of non gmo or organic is better for your health because it’s 100% not. The less processed Foods are better for you absolutely but it’s not non organic that would ever cause any issues with health. I came here to hear your acne story as I too have acne and just thought I would tell you that as someone who grew up with it and works in science

    • @bethanymcenaney
      @bethanymcenaney  2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Hey Cassie! I actually grew up on a farm too and still work on our family farm full-time. I don’t know if you’ve watched all the videos in my Health Journey playlist but I had a lot of other tough issues going on alongside the acne and some of the biggest ones were leaky gut, worsening asthma and newly developed food sensitivities. I definitely know that some pesticides are still used on organic crops, but in my case with my health journey, eating organic fruits and vegetables drastically helped my asthma decrease and my reactions to fruits went way down. Everyone’s different so what helps one person might not help the next, but it’s definitely worth trying out organic if someone is struggling with their health and is looking for answers. There are lot of harsh chemicals used in agriculture, a lot of which make it into our food, so I want to promote organic because in my case it helped my asthma and food sensitivities a lot. Eating organic could most definitely help someone so I always want to share that as an option for people to play around with just incase it helps them. It’s true that I couldn’t tell a direct link between my acne and gluten-free dairy-free, but I 10000% felt the connection between diet, my asthma and food sensitivities.

    I'm in the same boat now!! I had clear skin my whole life. Grew up in The Bahamas, no issues. As soon as I moved to the US, my skin went nuts and different things started happening to me health-wise that were out of sight and I truly believe it was the food. I was exposed to foods that were processed and just grown/harvested differently to what I was used to. Also had no idea about detoxing or anything like that so I was completely clueless. I've been on my acne journey since late 2019/early 2020 I'd say. Tried Curology and other popular skin care products, nothing worked. The acne kept coming back and got worse.
    In the past 3 weeks or so I've JUST managed to figure out how to stop my breakouts. Personally for me, I started washing my face once a day only in the evening after my workouts and using my current acne medication every other night (which I will completely stop after it's used up). I heavily dialed down the use of treatments on my face and it's now balanced in terms of oil production and moisture so that's helped. I no longer have oily skin to where I have an oil slick at the end of the day and my pores are no longer clogged with oil and whatever else so now I have a fighting chance at clear skin. Prior to that, I switched to clean eating and have been taking a daily cleanse supplement by HUM. All of that has worked for me thus far. Cutting out garbage ingredients in your food that lead to inflammation, leaky gut etc + detoxifying makes a world of difference across the board!
    This video has really prompted me to see a naturopath so I can discover the root cause of my acne though. I'm not 100% certain it's food/toxins but I have a very good feeling it is. Can't wait to seek out a naturopath real soon and find out everything that's going on. Thanks for sharing your journey and I'm so stoked for you!!! I've finally gotten pass the stage of looking in the mirror and crying or hating myself for how I looked because my breakouts have now subsided. Totally get the feeling of desperation to just have your skin clear up! Next stop is targeting these dark spots + ensuring everything's jiving internally. SO happy for you and thank you for this

      It could be hormonal such as too high estrogen, which means you should avoid processed foods. It could also be caused by too high androgens, which in that case means you should take zinc supplements. Foods like milk that contain growth hormone can cause it too. Pay attention to skin care and hair care products since those can also clog pores.

    This was such a great video! Congrats on beating your acne! I'm really sorry for what you went through. I know how it feels because I've had acne for a very long time. I'm in my forties and I finally figured out what was actually causing my acne. It had to do more with what I was and was not eating. That affected what was happening in my body and caused me to break out. For me, it was my gut. I noticed that I would get acne whenever I was constipated, which I thought was strange. Once I started eating a high fiber diet, my constipation went away. And guess what, so has my acne. I also try to eat as little or no sugar as possible. The only sugar I use is coconut sugar or fruits like berries. I drink lots of water. As for dairy, I switched to lactose free milk. That helped ALOT. I am a big cheese lover so I also make sure to only eat cheese that doesn't have any hormones, same with my chicken. So yes, what is going on in your body has ALOT to do with your acne. I hope this helps someone.❤

    I've had acne now for about 30yrs. I will be 40 in a cpl months. I know my body has something off inside and have been to multiple derms. with just getting prescriptions. They don't ask questions about diet, don't take any test or anything just hand out prescriptions. This last one gave me Sprinaolacone (spelling?) and I had seen other ppl say it worked for them and what not. Basically, it's blood pressure medication that may help with hormonal breakouts. My hormonal breakouts did get better but not my overall acne and I had that all over face, back, shoulders, stomach..... All over and non of that acne cleared at all. Not to mention I had side effects of mussle spasms or twitches in my neck. I would get that a lot to where my boyfriend even saw the twitch/spasm in my neck once. It was a bad one. I stopped taking the meds on my own. And the symptoms went away. When I took it again they came back. So I knew it was from the meds. I recently stopped takening them again and my regular all over acne remains like normal as well as all the big breakouts returning as well. I have not been back to the derm. and have been thinking about going to a naturalpathic doctor. I always thought it was off for my derm to prescribe me something that would help hormonal acne without even doing any hormonal test. I know I need to change what I ear and that is a huge struggle for me since I have are crap my whole life and am terrible at cooking so trying to cook healthy hasn't went so well. I definitely won't be giving up and will continue to try to get to the root cause of mt acne.

      Hi Megan! I did a bioenergetic test, a urine test and a thermography test all at my naturopath’s office. The bioenergetic test found the heavy metals,food sensitivities and vitamin deficiencies mainly (it checks a LOT of things though) and then the urine test tested my adrenals, kidneys, oxidation levels, vitamin C levels and a few other things, and then thermography was a body scan essentially that saw where I had lymphatic blockages!

      Hi there! I personally did not experience purging because my naturopath and I worked on supporting the liver and kidneys a few months before starting the heavy metal detox supplement. Focusing on supporting the body’s detoxing pathways such as the liver, kidneys, sweating is important to do first before trying to detox. Hopefully by doing that you won’t experience as extreme of symptoms. I would highly recommended working with a holistic practitioner to help you during the process!

    • @bethanymcenaney
      @bethanymcenaney  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Lara! Yes! I think in some of my earlier videos I go a little more in depth about the tests I got done but for kidneys it was a urine analysis that also tested for a lot of other things, and then the lymphatic system was a thermography scan, and then heavy metals were mostly from the bioenergetic test. The thermography scan can give recommendations as to what they think is the problem and heavy metals and toxin buildup was also in the thermography! I got all those done through my naturopath! The thermography also indicated that my lower back/kidney area was not responding the way it should on that test. So it was a combination of urine analysis, thermography, and bioenergetic test! The bioenergetic test can also tell you exactly which heavy metals and toxins are in your system as well as like parasites, viruses, food sensitivities and a lot more!

      Hi Lorraine! Truthfully I don’t have any savvy ways of finding a naturopath! I found mine through word-of-mouth, but usually when I’m looking for a more holistic option I Google search like “holistic doctor near me” “functional medicine near me” “naturopath near me” etc, and then from there I just go through everyone’s websites and look for their certification or what kind of practice they are! It can be time consuming but it’s usually worth it for me in the end. I did all of that when looking for a functional dentist!

      @bethanymcenaney  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes! So my naturopath did a bioenergetic test and I think that’s the one that found the heavy metals and food sensitivities, and then I did a urine test that showed my kidney and adrenal stress along with other things, and then I did a thermography test that showed where my blockages were, which showed how blocked up my lymphatic system was especially near my face! So bioenergetic, urine analysis and thermography. My naturopath did all those tests in one appointment, so you might have to find a naturopath that does similar tests. Bioenergetic testing is used a lot in the holistic field I think though so you could probably find somewhere that at least does the bioenergetic testing!

      @bethanymcenaney  ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m so sorry to hear this! Our body’s ability to detox properly is very important to overall health. I would personally recommend seeing a nutritional therapy practitioner that specializes in detoxing. We detox through sweat, our liver, our kidneys, our lungs. When my lymphatic system was backed up I would do hot epsom salt baths to try and sweat as much as I could. I went to saunas, I would do dry brushing to get the lymphatic system flowing again. Walking/exercise can also help get things flowing. One thing I learned with my toxin-induced acne was the importance of supporting my liver, kidneys and trying to sweat so that my lymphatic system isn’t having to work as hard. supporting the other ways our body detoxes can be a big help too. Go to caitcrowell.com if you’re interested in working with a practitioner who could run some testing. Her team specializes in detoxing/root cause issues!

There are some different teas that support your liver and kidneys, which could also be an option when starting out. Dandelion tea and milk thistle tea are good for liver detoxification, and nettle leaf tea can be good for kidney support.

    • @bethanymcenaney
      @bethanymcenaney  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey there! Heavy metals are in a lot of things so it can be hard to pinpoint exactly where they came from, but some of the specific ones that we found for me are commonly found in pesticides, herbicides and fungicides. I grew up on a produce farm that used those so I was probably exposed a lot more than the average person, so I personally started switching to organic produce and packaged foods as one step. I don’t eat a lot of fish so I don’t think that was part of it for me personally. Aluminum was also a common one they found so I switched deodorants and stopped using aluminum foil when cooking. It’s impossible to avoid all toxins, heavy metals, etc but I try my best to make simple swaps and then support my body’s natural detox pathways like the liver and kidneys the best I can❤️ Hope that helps!

      Hi Sandra! Ok this was a few years ago so I’m going off memory some haha I don’t recall taking a specific supplement for my adrenals, but I believe my kidney supplement had some herbs like ashwaganda and some others that were also good for my adrenals so it was a supplement that supported both. I also drank Holy Basil tea morning and night that’s another herb that supports adrenal function. I also tried implementing stress-reducing lifestyle practices like relaxing baths, breath work, prayer/meditation and things like that! Essentially anything that calms or relaxes the body can support adrenal function. Your adrenals are what produces cortisol, the stress hormone, so Holy Basil, Ashwaganda, Magnesium and some other herbs can be helpful in calming down the adrenals.

I started the kidney support maybe 3 months before I started the heavy metal detox supplement in efforts to prepare my kidneys to help detox. Hi Miki! First of all I’m so sorry your daughter is struggling! I know it can be such a hard and discouraging thing to go through. One thing I’d also mention is there is a difference between a food sensitivity test which is the IgG testing, and an actual food allergy test which is an IgE test that an allergist would conduct. It might be worth also doing a food allergy test and getting an IgE test done along with the IgG test she got done. I know my eczema will flare if I use poor quality topical products that are more toxic and not as clean. I love using the EWG website and products guide! They have a ton of research and data on ingredients and can tell you what brands are super clean and pass their standards!

    Hello! How much did you pay for all your tests/appointments for the naturopath? Can you give an approx number?
    Our story is….well no-not our story exactly but like the way you FELT about your acne was/is EXACTLY how I feel about mine. I’ve looked into naturopaths but I’m like…. I can’t bite the bullet for the naturopath. I’m afraid to drop a bunch of money and have it not work. I’ve already spent money on a regular derm and it hasn’t helped.

    • @bethanymcenaney
      @bethanymcenaney  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Valerie! I believe my initial testing (3 tests), consultation AND leaving the office with all my supplements was around $700. From there on I saw her about every 3 months in the beginning and I think follow up appointments were around $120/$150, not including any supplements I needed to restock. Obviously everyone’s office and naturopath will be different in cost. To me their offerings were way cheaper than I expected because I had spent $400 on just ONE food sensitivity test at a nutritionists office before I found my naturopath, so having all the answers, 3 tests and leaving with all the supplements, a plan and peace of mind was priceless for me personally! I had also spent a lot of money at allergists, pulmonologists, etc before finding a naturopath so I completely understand not wanting to spend more money! It’s a very hard position to be in. My acne was also just one part of many other symptoms I was facing like increased asthma, developing food sensitivities, hair loss, etc so I was desperate and willing to pay anything! Everyone’s situation is different but that’s about what my stuff cost to give you an estimate! Hope that helps!!❤️

    Hi Bethany, thx for your video. I’m currently seeing a naturopath / functional medicine practitioner and I just had a question if that’s ok... you said your naturopath tested the supplements would work for you, and I was wondering how? Mine is prescribing all kinds of supplements for me and I don’t know if all are working for me. Was it a muscle test / or a blood test or a machine measuring the electric current type of thing ? Also, did she re-test your kidney function to check it was where it needed to be before giving the metal synergy, or was it that you just gave the kidney an appropriate amount of time on the kidney support supplement? Thx so much x

    • @bethanymcenaney
      @bethanymcenaney  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Emma! Thanks for watching my video! I’m happy to answer questions😊 Regarding testing the supplements, my naturopath used a bioenergetic machine. The bioenergetic test was what found the heavy metals, food sensitivities, vitamin deficiencies, and it can find a lot more like parasites and viruses. Since that same machine can find a lot of what’s going on, it’s able to test what vitamins would work specifically for you. I’ve told a handful of people to maybe Google “bioenergetic testing near me” to see if they can find a naturopath or holistic practitioner near them that uses that if they’re interested! I don’t think we re-tested my kidneys (that was a urine test and I don’t remember doing it again), but I was on my kidney supplement for 3 months before I started the metal x-synergy! Let me know if you have any other questions!

    Does diet clear acne ??

    • @bethanymcenaney
      @bethanymcenaney  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      It absolutely can! Sugar and dairy are two of the top foods that can cause acne, but sometimes people have other food sensitivities that can cause acne! Another big cause of acne is hormone imbalance. For me I got some tests done and found that I had a lot of heavy metal toxins in my body which was causing my acne, but I change my diet a lot too. If you’re looking for a place to start on your acne journey I would recommend cutting out certain food groups one at a time and see if it makes a difference, or you could also get your hormones checked to see if there’s any imbalances there!

    • @bethanymcenaney
      @bethanymcenaney  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      For me, it was about 6 months of true dedication to the diet changes. But for some people I’ve heard it’s maybe 2-3 months, and if your acne is really severe, or there’s other underlying issues going on like vitamin deficiencies it can take up to a year for your body to really heal.

    • @bethanymcenaney

      I actually think heavy metals are used in them but I’m not sure how much. I believe heavy metals are often times used as a binder in vaccines but I’m not 100% sure on that! Would definitely be something to look into though!!

    • @bethanymcenaney
      @bethanymcenaney  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah that is interesting! I mean the gut can definitely cause issues with the skin like acne, eczema, etc, but yeah the bioenergetic test is what found the heavy metals in my system which ended up being the main cause of my acne! Once I started to detox my skin started to clear up! And then the thermography test was kind of like a body scan and you could see where my lymphatic system was really backed up near my face and neck, so those heavy metal toxins were stuck right near my face, causing the acne.
