Hi Kim! I'm going to work on my wearable muslin today. I'm a little nervous because the size is a much smaller size than I'm used to making (I'm following Whitney's size picking recommendation). But I trust her so I'm sure it will work out. Thanks for the congrats!! I hope to see you in the class community page!
OMG, I love the April dress and I love it on you! I think the style is very appropriate for a wedding. Hope your refitting project goes well this weekend. Nothing like a looming deadline to get us going….
Dogs are the best way to meet your neighbors. The hard part, is remembering the humans names. For the longest time, I couldn't remember one of my neighbors names. Just that she was "insert dog's name" mom.
I really need to get some electric scissors because I have rheumatoid arthritis and cutting fabric is, I think, the least favorite part for most of the sewists I know. But scissors and rotary cutters are hard on my hands.
Oh how I wish I had done a fit muslin for the Elodie - I too planned to wear it to a wedding next weekend! Beautiful fabric purchased, cut out - made bodice realized I needed to add to the length of bodice ( as I always do, but got a bit excited!) purchased more fabric, completed dress, put it on and felt like a house - or like I was wearing a robe! Le sigh. I agree with your assessment about it being problematic for us busty gals! I was pretty discouraged! Unlike you I don't have any options in my closet, so have purchased a ready to wear, that I feel good in (except when I think about the cost for a VERY simple POLYESTER!! dress) 😔 Look forward to seeing the refashions - I love the pink and orange!! : )
Oh what a bummer Heather! I'm sorry it didn't work out for you but kinda glad to hear it's not just me giving up too soon LOL! I'm getting a lot of love for the pink and orange dress! Thanks so much and I hope you have a blast at the wedding!!
Agree about the rotary cutter giving a quicker precise cut. I love your color choices always. Happy to see you smiling about meeting new friends& neighbors. Sure hope you get your dress for the wedding all figured out. Let us know how the fitting techniques work? I generally stick with stretch fabrics because wovens are so difficult to tweak the fit. Great video.
Great idea for the fitting course to use a pattern you've already sewn. You'll also have the garments to compare to. You can focus on the fit, and the actual sewing will go faster. I like the rotary for large pieces and scissors for smaller pieces. But I'm definitely curious about electric scissors. I'm making the Ralph Pink Audrey dress this weekend. Thanks for the Elodie review! That orange and pink April makes me want to go off my neutral palette. 😅
I'll have to look up the Audrey dress - I love to hear about new patterns and pattern designers! Thanks for sharing. That April dress is getting a lot of love in the comments! Thanks so much!
@@MichelleSewsAgainMost pattern companies probably have an Audrey dress 😂 I should do an Audrey challenge and make a bunch of different ones. 😅 Can't wait to see the wedding guest dress! ❤
Good luck with the re-fitting of those dresses - they are gorgeous! But I think having the Charlie as a back-up plan is a good idea. That dress looks amazing on you and I’m sure in a beautiful flowy rayon, it’ll be perfect for a wedding! Can’t wait to see what you end up making! 💞
Well, the wrap dress is a no go and the April will take more effort than just taking in the sides so it'll have to wait for another day. I'm cutting out the Charlie today and am looking forward to whipping it up between tonight and tomorrow night!
Good to know on the elodie, and thanks for giving precise reasons so I can look out for the sleeves wrap combo. They keep recommending wraps or people with weight changes, but if you don't feel good in it, what does it matter that you can cinch the waist
I feel the same way - I keep hearing that wrap dresses are flattering on every body type. I haven't found a wrap style that works for me yet - but I'm still lookiing!!
I appreciate the feedback. The wrap dress already has several waist darts on both the front and the back so there's no room for fisheye darts. It might be a good option for the April dress though. Thanks for the suggestion! 😍
Hi Michelle, congrats on the weight loss. I know how difficult that journey is. You look great either way. I hope you feel great too. I am left-handed which means that scissors even left-handed scissors are not really built for me. I have discovered Martinelli rotary cutters. They have a completely different shape and the hand placement is different. Looking forward to seeing your little girl dresses. Happy sewing.❤🧵🧵
What a bummer re the Elodie! Thank goodness you have back-ups and I can't wait to see which you decide on, because they're both beautiful. If I had to pick a fave, it'd be the Wildwood mainly because of the fabric, but also because it's still in alignment with your original vision of a wrap dress for the wedding. Regardless, both options are so lovely! I'm team rotary cutter! Those electric scissors scare me! I love that you're meeting your neighbours! I struggle with that kind of thing but sounds like everyone's new so you're not trying to break into an already established group...so high school! haha. Have fun!!!
I wouldn't even have thought about the electric scissors if I wasn't having so much pain in my wrist - we will see - I'll let you know how it goes! Yes, the fact that the entire neighborhood was new was actually one of the selling features for us. We felt like everyone would be getting to know each other at the same time and it wouldn't be so hard to "break in" LOL.
I love the print on your top. I'm excited to see the outcomes of the adjustments and possible new make. There are different types of rotary cutters that might work better for you if that's your preference. The electric Scissors scare me and I've watch a few bloggers that use them and I don't think the cut is as clean.
Thanks Barbara! Although I knew there were different types of rotary cutters, I never considered that a different type might be better for my hands. THANK YOU for suggesting that - now I need to test some new ones out! I played with my new electric scissors. They are powerful and FAST so they would definitely take some practice before I feel comfortable using them for good fabric!!
Enjoying your videos. My sewing is usually machine embroidery projects. I am currently making a game for some kids in the family. I need to get bigger magnets to enclose in the game pieces though. Hoping they won’t be too difficult to find. If they are, I’ll have to try a different idea, I guess.🤭 Can’t wait to see your dress a girl dresses and your remakes as well as the dress for the wedding. Good luck with it all.🚀🕊️
Nailed it! I was saying Charlie Caftan before you did! 😂I love that Forget Me Not dress but I think the wrap dress just outclasses it by a mile. Honestly I hope you just go with the Charlie because it really is a fabulous look on you. You know what, my rotary cutter is the one jinking around. Sharp blade, level surface and still the paper bubbles/crimps up on me as I go. I'm going to try my old 1960's electrics and see how I fare. Glad to know your thumb is better! Lunch/something soon. xoxoxoxox
Thanks Jen! I am going to work on the refittings today - so we'll see if either of them work. If not - Charlie all the way!! Definitely lunch/something soon 😊
such a bummer about finding the right dress for the wedding! hopefully one of your refashions will do the trick. i have never been drawn to Elodie myself b/c of the sleeves. such a fine line but it does seem to cross over into bathrobe territory for me.
Oh I'm glad you did a video on the Elodie! I can't do dropped sleeve or Kimono sleeves they just add so much weight to my biceps which are already huge. I wonder if you make the sleeve much shorter like a cap sleeve? You would at least salvage the top of what you've already made. I love my Charlie Caftan! You could trace the sleeve from it to your Elodie!
Thanks for some great suggestions Cecile! I might have to try the cap sleeve suggestion at some point. I need some distance from the Elodie before I try it again - I'm sour on it right now LOL!
I love the April dress! It's possible the sleeves on the Elodie dress add visual width at a spot you don't want it. My dad and uncle used to get together and buy the same thing for my mom and aunt for Christmas back in the '60s and '70s, and one year the gift was electric scissors, which scared the heck out of my mother because they seemed to take off on their own - she was never comfortable with them and they gathered dust, next to the Buttoneer from the year before (this shot plastic fasteners through the holes of a button so you wouldn't have to hand-sew them on - there's a reason they're not sold anymore, as what could look worse on a handmade garment than a cheap plastic plug holding your buttons on?!?) Good luck getting your dress ready!
Yes, I think that was exactly the issue - the visual width was just way too much! Good to know about the electric scissors. I have to cut something out today so I'm going to give them a try for the first time. Wish me luck! The plastic button attacher sounds interesting - too bad they couldn't figure out how to do it with a nicer product!
I bet electric scissors today are far better than 50 years ago! And turns out they do still make the Buttoneer, with nicer fasteners according to Google :)
I will be trying an electric scissors due to major arthritis in my thumbs. I love Gingher scissors, but am having more issues using them due to the thumbs. I will be interested to see how you like your electric scissors.

News flash: As you lose weight different styles will look and feel better. Time to start thinking about a set in sleeve. I’m plus size and I find grown on bat wing and raglans are not a flattering look. I’ve been trying to download PDF patterns for project sew a girl with no success.🥴
I think the issue with the grown on sleeve in this pattern is because it's combined with the wrap dress. I do not believe that busty, plus size women cannot wear grown on, bat wing or raglan sleeves (personal preference 😊). Bummer about your issue with downloading the free patterns! There are so many of them! I hope you are able to find something that works!!
I finally got my laptop to talk to the printer. I downloaded windows 11 and it's been an adventure. I find dolman sleeves uncomfortable and they look messy on me. All that extra fabric flapping around my underarms.🤣
Congrats on your health journey love what your making cant wait to see what you make
Thanks so much Robyn!!

Lots of people love knits for the same reason! Thanks for watching 😍
I too love the rotary cutter always more precise than scissors. For notches or hand issues try the Fiscars with the spring hinges, very comfortable.
