    I’m coming back to quilting after 24 year hiatus and not interested in traditional blocks and a whole lot of perfect. I planning on collage, and art quilts for placemats using Ankara remnants . I’m drawn to improvisational quilting. I’m a former rule follower turned rule breaker in garment sewing 🪡 and quilting now😮. But great to see you again. Sometimes we need breaks even from the hobbies we love. And, I love your dress. I make those as well.

    Def give the business a try, and see how it goes! I wonder if “Hand-dyed” would bring more traffic than “Ice-dyed”, since it’s a more broad description? 🤔 I cannot imagine weeding all that vinyl for the cruise shirts! 😱 You are AMAZEBALLS! 💗

    • @MichelleSewsAgain
      @MichelleSewsAgain 20 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I definitely think I need to use "hand-dyed" rather than "ice-dyed" - I'm sure most people wouldn't know what that is! The weeding took 15 minutes for each logo! Good thing I started early and was able to knock out a handful at a time over the course of a few weeks. Which is a shocker, I'm never ahead of the game 🤣🤣🤣

    Hi Michelle. I'd love to buy some of your ice dyed fabric! All the pieces you've shown have been gorgeous. If you're at the concept stage, I'm not sure if you want any details yet. But others have already mentioned fabric bases, so I'll offer my preferences. My favorite fabric is jersey knit of 95% pima cotton with 5% spandex. That mix seems to be the most dependably soft cotton-spandex fabric. The softness is what makes me want to buy more of what's on offer along with rich wonderful colors and patterns. Same with rayon wovens -- the ones that are soft are the most appealing to me. That even applies to woven cotton fabric for me -- the softer ones like cotton lawn are often more appealing to me for garments. I make quilts too. For those projects, I'm usually looking for light but densely woven cotton fabrics with beautiful prints or colors; to me softness is nice but not essential for that use. I think it's exciting that you might create a business and hope it could be structured to result in a decent income for you and all the time you invest in creating the fabric. Wishing you the best as you think about possibilities and jump into researching and learning and expanding horizons, Antonia

    • @MichelleSewsAgain
      @MichelleSewsAgain 20 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thank you so much for your input on the fabric bases - that's definitely helpful! Since I don't really sew with knits much, it's good to know what people prefer. I probably won't do a lot of quilting cottons because that seems to be available on Etsy from many different sellers. I'm trying to offer something that isn't already "out there". Thank you for your support! I'll definitely keep all of you updated on the progress (or lack thereof haha) of the business idea.

      @MichelleSewsAgain 27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi Carmen! I think I'll stick to fabric for my business - the tee shirt market is heavily saturated and a lot of people undervalue their work - so it doesn't leave much room to charge what I think my time would be worth. But I love making tees for my friends and family 😊💕

    I don’t recall if you have a serger or not. You could run the towels for your swatches through the serger and it would cut them and finish one edge of the fabric. You’d have to run the opposite edge(s) through serger separately. Just an idea if your pinking rotary blade doesn’t work well. I have one and dislike it.

    • @MichelleSewsAgain
      @MichelleSewsAgain 27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes, I have a serger 😊. I thought about doing that but I have so many to do - I just didn't want to use up my thread on this project, you know? Plus - once these have gone through the dryer - they won't be at risk of fraying anymore. I used the pinking rotary blade and I love it! So much easier than the shears - at least for me 😊. I appreciate the suggestion!! 💕

    Hi Cuz! I love all the pretty fabrics! I've never sewn with scuba, is it easy to work with? The idea of being able to buy ice dyed fabric sounds great to me.. I would definitely be a customer.

      Hi Cuz! The scuba was SO easy to work with! It's a super stable knit fabric. Thanks for the feedback on the fabric!!

    I would be interested in purchasing your ice-dyed fabric by the yard. I’ve made a number of ice-dyed t-shirts but don’t have the room for setting up to do yardage. Yours are so beautiful!

    Oh my gosh.... I've got a zigzag blade in my set of refills for the rotary cutter. Never thought to actually use it as pinking sheers.... Like a big DUHHHH😵‍💫 I have wrist problems too and those pinking sheers are just useless for me.

      I received the blade on Friday and used it immediately - it worked like a charm! Aren't those duh moments fun 🤣🤣🤣

    Hi Michele, great to see you again! 😁 I love love your LoDo Dress! I really need to give that pattern another look. Kelly is local here in Denver, and we refer to the older downtown area as LoDo , for Lower Downtown. That may be what this pattern is named for? 🤔 Your work on all those Tee shirts is fantastic! One of my sons was gifted a Cricut a few years ago by his wife, and he does some wonderful things with it. One at a time haha.

      Hi Lynn! Thanks for the info on the Lodo dress! That's so interesting - I'll have to dig in and see if that's the case. I LOVE the dress and definitely plan on making more of them!! The Cricut is fun but yes, it's a one at a time machine haha! I timed it all for the cousin shirts - it took 8 minutes for the Cricut to cut each one then 15 minutes for me to weed each one, then about 2 minutes to correctly center and iron on each one. I did it over the course of a few weeks since I had 30 of them to do! 😩

    CUt the middle and take in a seam so you don't have to pick out the fringe.. Just an idea

    Gorgeous dresses!! I agree with the folks who said to cut that blanket/towel down the middle and then remove some of that extra width that way. I absolutely love ice-died fabric and it looks amazing on people, but it’s just not me. Have fun with the girls!! 💞

      Yep - definitely going to do it the easier way that everyone is suggesting! Thanks Izzy 😊

      Thanks Sara! I'm actually always surprised when I like that style - but I agree, it's a good silhouette for me. Thanks 💕

    Elodie is French. It’s my daughters name so I spend a lot of time teaching people how to pronounce so A as in the A in Ate Low, Dee 😊 Love all your makes. Thanks for sharing.

      One of my ancestors was Elodie 💕 - it's such a beautiful name! The dress pattern is actually Lodo though (I thought it was Lodi).
