    Roof Moss Removal By Pressure Washing On Low Pressure, Then Soft Washing.
    This was a roof cleaning job carried out for a local business owner in Cambridge that we've done a lot of work for in the past.
    They were told that the roof on this office building needed replacing because of all the moss and growth covering a large percentage of the whole roof.
    Having had their own maintenance team check the roof battens and felt underlay from in inside the building, they weren't convinced that, that was necessary, as from inside the building the it all looked in excellent condition, with no leaks, no rot and no damage. They felt all that was needed was the moss to be removed, and for any damaged or cracked tiles to be replaced, which they would carry out themselves using their own maintenance team and their own cherry picker.
    Having cleaned a few roofs for this business owner in the past, and being very happy with the results, they called us in to remove the moss and growth from the roof and treat it.
    While the end result wasn't perfect, and and least 10% of the tiles needed replacing, you can see from the end results, it was a drastic improvement, and the roof is now completely clean, enabling their maintenance team to see exactly what tiles need replacing.
    Once they've completed that work, the whole roof will be in excellent working condition, costing them a fraction of what it would cost to re-tile the whole roof, and saving them thousands.

    That was so impressive Nick and you earned every single penny they paid you for that job. All those years in the building game certainly helped in assessing a job I don’t think many would have had the confidence to take on and goes to show that pressure is ok on tiles, if you know what you are doing. 1st class 👍👏🏻

      Indeed, there are some newer roofing materials and building techniques that are moss-friendly that are meant to catch that "natural" aesthetic and tap into the benefits of having a living organism on top of your house (from what I hear it serves as an excellent insulator and is great for roof irrigation that reduces the need for gutters for starters) but currently it's expensive and difficult to install on most residential buildings.

    • @Roguefem76
      @Roguefem76 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I agree, the moss did add a certain Hobbiton-esque charm. What a shame it also damages the roof! I can't imagine having those tiles break and fall on one's gead would be pleasant.
      It's cool to know there is a moss-friendly alternative, even if it's not very practical right now!

    Greetings from Tennessee, USA. I’ve done a bit of pressure washing and am still mesmerized by the transition, from old and tired to new and shiny. It’s obvious that you have done a lot of this as the results speak for themselves. As I was watching, I thought how interesting it would be if your drone was stationary above the roof for a brief while so we could see a time lapse of the transformation from above. I know that’s a lot of hovering but it would be an interesting perspective. Great job. Great video. Thank you.

Even though the day is cloudy the go pro can heat up from the sun and once them get over heated the go pro will turn off or stop recording until it cools off again. So the umbrella will help with this issue. Plus you can record in nasty weather as well. Anyways I hope this helps out.

      Waheeey, nice one Sid, top man. I got lucky on this job, they were happy for me to chuck all the moss into the grass and hedge borders right next to where I was working, so saved me a lot of time, but still a bit of a pain in the arse though having to brush it all up and lob it over 😁

    This is what I need on my house in the Spring; long-lance cleaning, rather than the Clodhopper Bros trampling all over the tiles like they seem to do. It's not the tiles, the house is only ten years old, but the tiles have been fitted to 'storm spec', every one twice-fixed with nails and clips and removing just one cracked tile would be a real pain. The ridge tiles fared the worst, a 'new' coated tile, which attracted the moss and algae within months. It needs putting back to its New look.

      Moss growth is a consequence of global warming (warmer and wetter) AND lack of coal burining (the sulphur/ soot is no longer in the air, preventing some lichens etc from growth)

    Did you clean the gutters after or do anything to prevent the moss getting in the down pipe? I have cleaned my gutters 3 times this year because of moss getting wedged in the downpipe. Next year i think il have the gutters down and replaced.

    • @PrestigeExternalCleaning
      @PrestigeExternalCleaning  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The gutter down pipes are disconnected at the top, so the moss and debris doesn’t enter the drains, and all gutters cleared and washed out, it’s standard practice for this type of work, or is at least for us.

    Quite nice. I am just wondering if you intercept the nasty biocide from the downspouts for proper disposal, or whether it ends up in nature? Here in Sweden, it would go to a recycle center.
    But I was very glad to see you used a decent mask to protect your lungs. 👍x10.

      It’s sodium hypochlorite, and yes it goes into the drainage, but not into nature, it goes to be treated by one of the seven water treatment companies here in England. And guess what they then treat that water with to make it safe - sodium hypochlorite

    You make it seem very easy! I'm looking to do my own roof, which does have moss on, but not too much, rather mostly the tiles are just dirty and covered in lichen and algi. I am buying a tower to clean the roof, but also for other purposes so don't mind the outlay for that, and had been thinking about buying a couple of roof ladders to scale the roof and use brushes to get the moss and other stuff off, before applying the SH with a backpack pump. But having seen many videos, it seems to me most professionals (which of course I am not) use a scraper and/or jet wash (like you have, I believe using a rotor attachment?). Bearing in mind I don't have too much moss on my roof, how would you suggest I do it? I don't mind spending a fair bit on the equipment, with a view to selling it on to recoup most of my outlay, but I've got confused about what I would need to buy? It seems whichever way I do it, I would probably need a long telescopic pole, scrapers (possibly) and some type of water feed facility with the pole in order to apply the SH. Can you advise the minimum type of equipment I should get to do the job, with the relevant names of the items so I can research them? I have a bungalow with a high pitched roof. I've seen equal numbers of professionals using either just a biocide, or SH, but not that often both. I have concrete flat tiles around 60 years old, so am just concerned if using SH will damage them in any way, which I have read is a possibility. Any help would very much be appreciated. Cheers.

    Thanks for the slow (normal) speed close-up. I was wondering how much pressure you were using to be so effective but I was able to see that you use a "wobbly" spray nozzle which is more effective than a standard fixed nozzle. Nice job.
