      Actually it will only hold moisture and in doing so keep the roof material cold . Hence heat transfer of the cold through into roof .

      @@22KingRancher No idea what your problem is, but I do find loads to watch, disabled from a work accident and at risk due to illness I watch loads of strange stuff. TheBoatGuy, Nekkid Watchmaker, ProducerMicheal, DTTV studios, World of Tanks, Car repair channel like Chris Fix.
      Someone took the time to record a process and did a good job I made a short simple comment, to show it was good as I watched the whole thing, if you dont like it dont watch.

      The biocides treatment acts as a preventative and even improves the roof in the months to come. But I have been pressure washing roofs more recently instead of this scraping method.😃👍🏼

      If I was the custy I would have wanted a pressure wash. But that's why you make a contract and hire someone worthwhile, or you can rent a pressure washer and do it right yourself, and drink beer or liquor while doing it.

      And in the winter it will hold water and risk cracking the tiles when it freezes. Good to get it cleaned.😃👍🏼

    I am curious ~ why did you not pressure wash the roof before applying the biocide? ~ I can only guess that the price you quoted the customer did not allow to do this.

      It’s usually scraping or pressure washing for me, depending on the tiles and the situation. It would be a lot of work to do both.😃👍🏼

    Awesome job on the roof. Another solution as a biocide is putting zinc sheeting along the roof line. In the USA they sell a zinc product that is nailed in right below the ridge cap.

    Bits of moss falls off my neighbours roof every week and everytime it rains. I cleaned the roof on my neighbours bungalow with a long pole with a wire brush attached on the end, bleach mixed with water and a hose pipe. It's been 3 yrs now since i cleaned it and none of it has come back.

      R083RTB SH can potentially be damaging to the roof as well as surrounding areas. Algo Clear or a similar biocide is generally considered to be a more appropriate approach.😃👍🏼

      @@aemackintosh I understand it can be hazardous. I've seen the Americans using it pre soaking surrounding area with water and rinsing afterwards. What would you use if your customer wanted to see some more instant results? Is there anything that you could use maybe using a stiff old wfp brush to apply or similar, then rinsing with 100* fan jets or something?
      I'm just thinking that someone looking to sell their house would want more instant results. Thanks again.

      I think if you apply using fan jets and a brush to work it in a little, then come back in a week or so and repeat, then come back in a few days and rinse, it can be possible to hurry things along. I haven’t experimented much with this myself though.😃👍🏼

    I remember a person bought a mid sixties bungalow in England. They changed the concrete roof tiles to slate. Never had to clean them.

    Hi Ash, I was just thinking if you could please do a video perhaps on how to repair a tile after roof cleaning? It hasn't happened to me yet, but I'm dreading a tile breaks and I have to DIY a repair. Especially on roofs where I can't get to the tile.

    Good work again Ashley, , with a roof tile being so pourus I would be giving 2 more spray follow up treatments, first after a decent rain , then a week after that I would spray and soft wash off at low pressure .. 👍👍

    Ive done over 1000 roofs now in Sussex, using the scraping method, however we use hook ladders, trowels and brushes, get the job done and customers always happy,

      It adds an extra process with extra equipment. So it’s either scrape and biocide or pressure wash, depending on the situation.😃👍🏼

      Ali Elder Yes, you could use a brush with fan jets is quite good, especially if you want to agitate the surface a bit. But the spray nozzle from DA Components that I use is especially designed to foam up the solution as you spray.😃👍🏼

      Ashley John I’m using my diy pump setup to spray the chemical. I should really have a pump that delivers a greater flow rate but I’m just using my old window cleaning setup and it works fine.       That’s a whole different set of kit! It’s either one or the other for me. I’ve been USA pressure washing method for roofs more recently.😃👍🏼

    Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere but I can’t seem to find any info... what do you do with the moss once removed? Take it away with you? Hire a skip? Leave it in a pile and ask the customer to deal with it? Would appreciate any suggestions.

      Usually I ask the customer if they have a compost heap, or there is a particular flower bed where we can dispose of it, or under a bush?😃👍🏼

    Does the skyscraper blades fit on SkyVac atom poles or do you need to buy the skyscraper poles for the blades to fit ?

      Marc Walker You need a specific pole for the scraper, but it’s always best to check directly with Spina Clean so you get the right setup.😃👍🏼

    What biocide are you using? Would it not be advisable to have a form of PPE using the biocide to protect eyesight and airways?

      I use AlgoClear Biocide and yes you should use a P3R standard mask.😃👍🏼

    What's the best advice to find a professional moss cleaner for tiled roof. Will they be part of Trading standard, trying to avoid cowboys??

      It’s a shame that it’s a very unregulated industry with very little guidance out there. Best thing is to meet your contractor to build confidence that they have knowledge and experience, pick someone local, and check their reviews and website etc to see their past work examples.

      Thanks. Biocide won’t harm the surface at all, it just reacts with organic growth. So just be careful how you apply it, wear ppe, and don’t spray it on surrounding areas.👍🏼

    What is the product that you spray on the roofs to stop moss from growing back? And is it aloud to be drained down into a soak away?

      The biocide I use is AlgoClear and it is biodegradable.😃👍🏼

    I know we wouldn't watch you do this straight through. But it would be nice to know how long it did take you to scrape that much moss and debris off.
    I also like the two scraper design. With the the depression blades a little longer it looks to make getting into the crevices easier.

      mark eggleton I prefer using the Marshall Pro sprayer when spraying from the ground. It can be a bit awkward using it from the ladder, so I’m using the nozzle from DA Components. There is a link in the description to a video about this setup.😃👍🏼

    Where did you get the long pole from 6:38? Had one from Wickes £10, but was cheap and flimsy so took back. Looking to buy a new one as need doing again. Is it solid or wobbly when using?

      You could set up a little trolley and the nozzle from DA Components much cheaper and it would basically do the same job.😃👍🏼

I do window cleaning too and I've found myself using it for the rears of terrace houses or jobs that don't have rear access to pole wash. Obviously if I've used it for spraying something I always make sure it's well rinsed out with water

      Yeah, I’m not sure that’s a great idea. I use AlgoClear which doesn’t get such instant results but it won’t damage the surface you are treating in any way.😃👍🏼

      Indeed, and it would hold the moisture against the tiles which can cause damage in the long run, especially when it freezes in winter. Worth keeping it clean.😃👍🏼

      Thanks! I’m glad you find the channel useful. I use AlgoClear biocide. You can get a spray nozzle from DA Components, or quite often I will use an old water fed pole brush with fan jets, works a treat.😃👍🏼

    What are the roofing materials? That moss could add about 1000 lbs to the roof weight onto the walls.

    So, is it a viable option to just leave the organic stuff on the roof or will it eventually seriously damage the roof? (I live in the desert and we never have these problems so I am curious.)

      It can cause damage, and block gutters. Over winter especially, residual moisture held near the surface of the tiles can cause them to crack.😬👎🏼

    Some comments mention using a pressure washer. I wonder if that is a good idea. First, we don't know what condition the roof is in under the moss. Water might leak through damaged areas.
    Second, washing the moss down into the gutters might cause a backup of water into the house.

    Was the singles wood or ceramic and how old was the roof? I was thinking once you scraped you would pressure wash it. it turned out very good with just the scraping. Do you pressure wash one of the roofs you clean. Thanks for a very outstanding video. (Mississippi Gulf Coast, USA)

      They were clay tiles. It was treated with a biocide after scraping, so that should kill off any remaining organic growth.😃👍🏼

    Hey great info videos, helping me a lot, can I ask please what you use to apply chemical treatment from the ground, I will be using the sky vac elite poles with the scraper, but am looking for a sprayer that can extend to around 7m or more?

    I've lived my whole life in aparment complex so this is a genuine question: why is it bad to let your roof be covered in moss and leaves? it looks kinda cool tbh x'D please don't kill me I just really wanna know

      The moss can cause blockages in the gutter which in turn can cause water to overflow and get into areas of the building it’s not meant to, causing damage. The weight of wet moss like this will put additional strain on the roof. And when the wet moss freezes in winter it can cause tiles to crack. So it’s quite important to have it removed to prevent damage to the building.😃👍🏼

      You shouldn't jet wash a tiled roof pal it will damage it, the correct way to do it is exactly how this man is doing this one.

      Yeah gotta agree with the video, the biocide is the key here, a far better approach than just pressure washing the roof. I used a product called Roof Clear on my Bungalow, it did an incredible job and nothing has grown back for 2 years since doing it (I had more lichen than moss)
