  • I disassemble this CANON EOS-1 D mark II n, because it has a broken / wornout shutter, but only one shutter blade was broken in one bearing. The camera actually works fine except for the shutter.
    But maybe this 3 parts videoclip can help other repairer people, when disassemble this type of camera.

    The most remarkable thing about this video ist that someone who obviously memorizes where all the tiny little screws have to go when reassembling it puts down a note of the order of a few colour-marked wires...

    Hey, I watched 3 parts of fixing the shutter on the Canon EOS 1D mark II. This is like a great thriller, it was hard to believe the number of layers and screws you had to get through. It was really amazing! But I want to see the reassembly, it's the exciting conclusion. Can you do it and will it work?

      Hi David
      I have got this camera for free, so i think it would be a good experince in finding the failure. But it was not possible to fix, well, there was the problem with the shutter (worn out shutter blade)...., later i found out that there was something wrong with the aperture system. Part of the system was really NOT good. So i deside that it would ending up to beeing spareparts, also because I need some broken screws and small springs for another camera..

      With the amount of assembly involved in these cameras, I better appreciate the value/price.

    Good evening. I own this camera (bought 2nd hand) and noticed some back focus. As you know, there is no micro adjustment for this model. The image is perfectly in focus in the viewfinder, however, BACKFOCUSED in the digital image.
    I made some research on the web and figured out that considering the image is in focus in the viewfinder, the sensor may be in bad position, closer than it should be from the lens. Do you think that increasing the distance of the sensor related to the lend by fractions of milimiters will solve this issue? After all, the focus before taking the shot is perfect in the viewfinder, which means the phase detection is working perfectly.
    Best regards from Brazil!

      Hello Rodrigo, Ihaven't found the service manual for this camera, but i'm sure that it would have the adjustment info. I am also thinking that increasing the distance of the sensor related to the lend by fractions of milimiters will solve this issue, because the sensor circuit board is hold in place by 3 screws and springs. If the camera has been dropped on hard surface, it can be out of alignment and need some adjustment.
      Cheers

    My EOS 1 had a broken shutter several years ago. I found parts and was willing to send the parts and the camera to a place in Florida. They man said he'd be happy to repair since I had the parts to do so but he really didn't want to make the repairs. He got out of it by telling me the repairs would cost $150 and hour with a two hour minimum. I politely said no.
    When they get too old its time to upgrade.

    Hi. Nice job. What can happen if i replace a 4mpx on a Canon 1d with a 16mpx sensor also full frame? Regards

      @mikeno62  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Don't get me wrong, I can see your idea but I would guess it would'nt work because the mother board would not work with the sensor (different connection, different processer).
      But if it works, it would be interesting to see..., so you should give it a try..

    Hi, thanks for video! I have made the same with my Canon 1D II. But the new shutter won't work - when I pressing the shutter release button the mirror is opening and locking, shutter is not opening and the camera is freeze until I remove the battery. Do you know what the problem is that? Thanks again

      Darryl SuttonAs you, i could't find any service manual for this camera, i only found the parts manual, but it was okay just for disassemble the camera.And i just continue with the disassemble, just to show others how it look's inside because it sometimes also is a good "informative service manual" when seeing a movie about it.cheers KenDarryl Sutton

    Can you tell me the correct name for the silver mount on the body where you attach your lens to got a camera where that bit is broken on the body but can't find a replacement ring to screw back on? Not sure of the name of the ring?

    • @mikeno62
      @mikeno62  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      rnorgatephoto As I understand it, it must be the bajonet, but in the parts manual it has the name: MOUNT, BODY. with parts number CA1-7777-000.
      Behind the bajonet, there is a thin metal ring that's called a SPRING, MOUNT. with parts number CS2-7205000.
      It could also be the lock pin on side of the bajonet that has break off, which is call a LOCK PIN UNIT with parts number CF1-3063-000
      Hope it can help you.
      Cheers

      Lovely to see your work on this camera seeing I own one, however soon I will pass the 200.000 shutters and don't know if it will stop then or just carry on. Next to that seeing the low megapixels of this model do you think by putting a different canon sensor its possible to upgrade this camera? Haha a sort of camera chop-shop like some Leica,s this days. any way thanks for sharing your repairs on line
