George Coldham Lol my friend took apart the top half of my cracked sigma lens and after putting it back together the camera sensor started malfunctioning and couldn't sense the lens. 🙃👍🏽 #RIP
@Temur In america at least the warranty void stickers or void because of oppening isn't legal (from what I learned watching pc component reviews/tests/news channel). So canon they wouldn't be able to say anything.
When you say "that's the image sensor" i think it's not the sensor yet. Looks like it's a heatsink with a heatpipe connected to it. So probably there must be the processors under it. Looks like it aims to transfer to heat towards the battery compartment, which can be a useful thing in winter. It's really amazing how these things are put together.
yeah, the piece he calls the image sensor is actually a metal shield put over the processor to contain the RF and signal noise processors emit. But yeah the heat sink is something canon canon does.

Interesting video Peter. Every time I buy a new Canon DSLR for astrophotography the first thing I have to do is open it up and remove the red cut filter from in front of the sensor, thus voiding the warranty on the brand new expensive camera. Not for the faint of heart, one minor slip & the camera is a kayak anchor.
Why, exactly, do you do this? Does it really distort colors to that degree? Is there a filter you could put on the camera lens to correct for whatever color distortion there might be?
@@Anon54387 he is removing the filter because it might be filtering out infrared and in astrophotography, infrared gives some of the color in the photos
I had bad experience removing IR filter from a INR 500 action cam! The camera is now starting but recording cant be stopped and when battery removed the recording is corrupted!!!
Might make a cool video if one of your friends from Canon could set you up with a technician to teach us how the camera functions internally. I’d find it fascinating not sure about the rest of your audience.

iglyduckling Panasonic's color science is actually really nice also, the GH5 shoots lovely 4k footage. Arguably easier to color grade than Sony's. Surely it can't be that hard. Maybe the a7s III will improve it.

In the US at least, it's a legal right to repair one's own gear without voiding warranties. As long as he doesn't break anything by taking it apart, the warranty is intact. Some companies will fight you though, and you may need to spend lots of money on lawyers to get them to repair the gear you've opened, even though the laws exist. I watched this video last week, which made me go pull some old cameras out of my trunk (I was going to sell/donate but nobody would take it), and I disassembled it cleaned it from the inside out, reassembled it and now it works and I have a new camera :D thank you!!
this is why i love Peter, he took apart this camera for the pure curiosity of wanting to know how this camera was built, and he felt bad about it. Casey, however, USED AXES AND TREATS HIS STUFF LIKE CRAP with no second thought. Peter is awesome because this was productive and was pure of heart. If you're of the mind to take your camera apart, be very careful. Especially around the image sensor. It's been aligned to the camera body to achieve the correct focal adjustment for the flange depth of the frame. If you put it back together badly you can misalign it and screw up part or all of the focal distance to the flange, leaving you with a camera which will never focus accurately. The good news is there are lots of things you can fix in a broken camera which won't require you to move the sensor at all, but if you have to have to move the sensor it's probably best to have it fixed by a proper workshop.

If he's paying for repair outside warranty it wouldn't matter. Canon are pretty good about fixing things out of warranty.
He's pretty tight with Canon, so he can basically do what he wants I'm sure. Wouldn't be surprised if this was "staged".
