House's brainstorming with the janitor is a fantastic example of using simple analogy to explain a complex problem. As a teacher, I live for these moments that can come together in a classroom to reach kids at their level.
For many things we "know" its something you think you know 100% but having to explain it fresh to someone in terms they understand helps you reorder what you think in a new way that opens up your mind. and is also one sure way to know whether you truly do know something as well as you think you do because if you can not explain it coherently then you don't really know it.
Imagine in one of the latest seasons: - Who's that Janitor? - Your senior. - My senior? but he's a Janitor, are you mocking me? - Maybe I should ask you if YOU are mocking him, since he was part of my team (albeit temporally) way before you even finish med school. *Scene ends with the new member staring at the Janitor*
what they should have done is have the janitor playfully antagonize house for several years. house being something of a plaything for his weird, custodial whims. maybe he's friends with the hilariously pathetic, hospital lawyer. loose change based comedy. i dont know, i'm just spitballing here. (no, foreman is NOT turk. wilson is turk!)
If I remember this correctly it comes down to that the patient has been misidentified from the retrieved people and bodies from the collapsed building. The boyfriend and mother of the patient were in fact never the boyfriend and mother. They might have been right about the person they were talking about, but House was also right about the person in the hospital bed.
House : "I can't take the case, I don't have a team." Cuddy: "So hire a team." House : "What for? I don't have a case." That's some HOUSEplaining right there!!
There was a twist at the end of this episode. It turns out that the woman they thought was that guy’s girlfriend was actually so disfigured that they didn’t realize it was actually the other gentleman‘s girlfriend so they were going off the wrong information from the get-go. It’s actually really heartbreaking at the end.
I appreciated the fact that they let ordinary 'normals' show that they're just as creative and capable of problem solving as doctors that crammed their brain with knowledge they'll likely never need. The show can bridge on being condescending at times, which I know is House' character, but the times that they show not only the academic elite are worthy of being right or inventive help balance it out.
@@geoffoldread7684 I would argue that those shown exemplary through academic rote learning are more likely to think outside the box than someone who's first third of their life hasn't been dictated by the stress of revision and constant, exanimated learning. I understand in House's team, they're (or at least are led by) extraordinary geniuses who's ability to blaze through academia doesn't stop their creativity. It's always worth remembering that people who's experiences have been dominated by academia can be some of the most naive and least worldly out there. I've more than one med student friend, and they'll admit they can be borderline retarded because of the limitations of their experiences.
This episode was awesome. Usually House just delegates the “leg work,” for lack of a better term, to his lackeys while he does whatever he wants. But with no team to fall back on we actually got to see House do the investigating on his own, like breaking into the patient’s home. It was a refreshing change, even if it was short lived.
The janitor is a missed opportunity, imagine he just overhears stuff sometimes and makes an occasional appearance and says something that always gives House a nudge into the right direction. That would be really funny and wholesome.
I work in the engineering dept of an ISP. So many calls from field techs or plant techs where they have the knowledge to solve the issue. They just call in to have their ideas bounce off someone else before they implement their fix.
Think I remember this one. SPOILER 🚨🚨 Basically Megan (the girl who died that morning) and patient girl got mixed up. Patient girl is Megan and the one who passed was who we thought was patient girl if that makes sense. So the history was completely useless since it was for the wrong girl.
Eeeek! So, the guy sitting there will find out that his girl is alive and the guy that walked away has the wrong impression of his dead lover? Like I said, Eeeeeek!
And even though all the intermediate diagnoses were correct, it demonstrated that House needed a team since it took him way longer to figure it out because there was no way Cameron would have accepted that the boyfriend didn't know his girlfriend well enough to have missed so many things, Foreman wouldn't have accepted the scattered multiple diagnoses and worked to prove House wrong, and Chase would have forced a confirmation trying to prove House right.
The mom looks like the actress Kay Lenz. I used to enjoy seeing her in movies and TV shows. Haven’t seen her in years, almost didn’t recognize her. Glad she is still acting.
Always loved that the Boyfriend Stayed at the Hospital, even after being told that his 'Girlfriend' was Dead. It's like he knew, that he needed to stay there. Poor Liz.
Nah thats just the shows twisted way of telling a story. The series just became a way of playing with the audience. It became too clever for itself. Much like House himself.
Wish they had of made the janitor recurring. He could have identified fungal spores or identified bleach stains showing that the areas was cleaned but not before it infected the patient.
House just committed a HIPPA violation. Even if its her fiance/boyfriend unless he is legally authorized to see her medical stuff, house can not share that info.
