@@anvl618 We got a Speed Queen 5 years ago and are very satisfied. The TC5 looks the same as ours except for the styling of the panel under the knobs. The dryer is excellent too, the best I have ever used.
Absolutely YES. I got rid of my "eco" friendly top load because it did not clean my clothes. My SQ gets the job one in 28 minutes instead of almost two hours. I never thought I'd be saying I love a washing machine --- I Love my Speed Queen.
You buy a washer to get your clothes clean not to text you when it's done. Keep it simple.

I bought a no frills AWN412SP washer in 2012 and it is the best washer I've ever had in my adult life. The only problem we have ever had is wearing a a few knobs and those were replaced. I always recommend Speed Queen to others. When I went to shop for it, after our cheaper previous washer failed in only 3 years, my husband asked me to "not cheap out" on this one. Glad I listened to him. At the time I paid around $700 for this basic washer, when other brands were less than $500. It was so worth the investment, and has been going strong for almost 10 years now.
Yep, I just purchased a Speed Queen washer and dryer. I want simple and dependable. Had my last set 22 years. This new set will probably outlive me 😊

We bought Speed Queen set about 5 years ago. Had a Maytag set about 11 years old so we did our research, we knew we wanted old school, no bells and whistles, just a Workhorse that is dependable that lasts. And we definitely got that. We love it. If only they made other appliances lol.

My next washing machine will be a speed Queen or an old school Kenmore or Kitchen-aid belt drive! I had a Kenmore growing up and that machine was awesome!!!
Two years ago I bought the 'retail' version of Speed Queen's laudermat washing machine. It looks exactly like those at the laundermat, just no coin receptacles. Minimal cycles, minimal electronics and other cleaning options, but its a workhorse. I also like the 'pause' function so I can soak clothes for 10-30 minutes to allow the soapy water to work on the grimey stuff rather than beat the dirt out of the clothes with an aggressive wash. Cost was $750, $250 more than the 'efficiency' machines, but worth every penny.

Had a maytag front loader, with all the bells and whistles. It lasted 3 years It smelled musty and cracked the motherboard during it's off balance extraction cycles. I went the exact opposite direction. I order a top loading Speed Queen, that was all mechanical. I told the sale person over the phone, " I want one just like Bob Barker gave away on the Price is right.". That was 14 years ago. The best money I ever spent. The thing is a workhorse. Put clothes in the come out clean. That is what I want a washing machine to do.

@@jameslong1644 It's not mechanical, it only looks like it, there is still a control board underneath. They haven't made mechanical controls for a while now. The TR series also changed the way it agitates clothes and it performs poorly in every test I've seen.
@@jameslong1644 TC5003WN, they do have control board behind the knobs, but much better than the TC7 with all the touchpad.
Great review! Just one issue, WiFi on an appliance is not a feature. It is a serious security threat to your privacy and home network and should never be used unless it can be given it's own VLAN (with any nother IOT Devices) on your network.

These Speed Queens still usa a control board underneath those knobs. My 2013 AWN432 was still going strong in 2020 when I gave it to a collector because I was moving. Was a great workhorse.
True! The Speed Queens do rely less on digital controls and menus overall, which some people prefer.
Hey The AWN432 series model was excellent sought after machine. It changed after 2016. Not sure if Speed Queen revised it after the last years of government EPA infiltration.
@@josephpuchel6497 The TC5 is basically the AWN432 series with some minor modifications so that it technically meets the EPA standards on the Normal/Eco setting. It's still basically the same other than that one cycle.
I bought a TC5 in May, 2021. It was great for about for about 5 weeks, then it developed a tapping sound, most noticeable during agitation. Then came a whine to go with it. It literally sounds like a train going by. Tappa tappa tappa tappa wooo. Tappa tappa tappa tappa wooo. I called Speed Queen and they recommended a service call. So, we got a service call. The tech replaced the gearbox. No change. But he also messed up a seal and it started leaking. So, they had to redo the seal. Now, we have a machine the doesn't leak, but still sounds like a train going by. On top of that, when it goes into spin cycle, now, it sounds like a jet is hovering over the house. It is so loud you can barely be in the same room with it. It is now August, we've had techs out here 4 times and we still have a machine that isn't right. This is not the reason I dropped over a grand on a machine that Consumer Reports rated the most reliable.
I love my Speed Queen pair so much I bought a second set for my newly built garage. So I have two par, one pair in the house that’s been the best washer dryer pair I’ve ever owned and a new set out in my new garage. Wash days are easy with two washers & two dryers...both Speed Queen. I’ll never go back.

Hi.I bought a Speed Queen a few days ago.What I noticed is that the water is running only when the lid is closed when I open the lid the water is not running like they are showing in all the u tube videos.Any advice would be appreciated.Thank you🌺

@@anvl618they bypass it. To do this they use a wooden clothes pin(like ones to hang clothes up to dry) on the back of the machine...in the middle of the upper lid there's a button area under the lip that has to be pushed in. If you do this it'll bypass it and can be opened while it continues to wash.
Bought a SQ back in 2013 have never had one problem no electronics. After having a bad experience with newer washers leaving stinky water and electronic control board failure.

Any company that "makes them like they used to" gets my money. I'm not opposed to progress, but who wants a moldy washer? When my old Amana set goes, it will be well worth the money to get solidly built appliances.
Or who wants to go backwards and that’s a lot of laundry tech now days.
I currently own a Maytag washer and dryer set from 1991. Only replaced the lid switch on the washer and belt on dryer. It's a shame the manufacturers decided to cheapen their products to last 5-10 years including Maytag. I have done my research and will be buying Speed Queen TR7 for my next and final set of machines.
I had an old 1990 whirlpool it lasted many years until the tub rusted out they use steel tubs with ceramic coatings. I replaced it in 2013 with a Speed Queen which has a stainless tub.

Noooooo. Do not get the TR series. Make sure you get the TC series. The TR series' middle post is attached to the drum and does not agitate the clothes. Many online posts (complaints) about how the TR series leaves soap and fabric softener residue on clothes. That is why speed queen returned to the classic agitator with the TC series. Also, in the video, he mentions the pump / drain issue, that was on the TR series. Hope you went with the TC series.

After purchasing 2 front loader sets, both got moldy regardless of how clean I kept them. A salesman turned me onto Speed queen and I have never regretted my decision. I don't need all the bells and whistles. My speed queen washes and cleans my clothes way better than any front loader I ever had. I will never purchase any other brand. I am committed to Speed queen. ❤

I have been told that the TC5 is too rough for residential use...more for work clothes etc. and the best one would be TR5 for home use...thoughts on this please.
@@larryt5700 Because these machines (TC5) have been around for years with the same washing mechanism, and tearing clothes up was never a problem before, I think that whole thing is just a marketing ploy. The TC5 has a gentle cycle, and if you ask any grandma or mom if it tore up her clothes, she'd probably look at you funny. Another one is that because the tub is smaller in the Spead Queen brand, people assume it's inferior, when the larger capacity washers don't fill up all the way with water like a Spead Queen can.
Bought one several months ago. Not one regret!

I prefer a top loader simply because I don't want to bend over anymore. Speed Queen is worth the extra money. When I saw cutaways in a showroom of a few of the top selling brands and a Speed Queen, I bought we bought a Speed Queen without hesitation.
I wish the appliance companies would make a basic no bells and whistles fridge with a quality commercial compressor and other parts. With all the problems with the fancy fridges nowadays, I think there's a lot of people who would want to go back to basics, simplicity and quality.
Simple doesn't mean more reliable.....

I just purchased a SQ TC5 and it is built with many of the same parts that Speed Queen was using 35 years ago when I was selling and installing them. A few cosmetic upgrades and they have gone away from the old mechanical timers but the controls seem to be in line with today's commercial equipment. The CT5 type washers are essentially the same as the coinops and the one's used in apartments, collages, assisted living, jails and prisons. Basically, people don't care how hard they are on machines that they don't have to pay for. Yet these things last a long time and are easily and economically repairable when something finally does ware out. I paid $1250. And I believe it is the best value available to me. Thanks

I got the TC5 and DC5 washer/dryer set last June and am perfectly happy with them. I should have bought them a few years ago when they were less than $1k each. As it was they were $1,284.00 each but at my age I expect them to still be around after I'm gone. I bought them locally from a well known dealer (Billy Martin's Store, Martinsburg, Indiana) who services what they sell should I have a problem with them.
We got our Speed Queen washer and dryer in 2016 and they cost $1500. Now they cost about $2400! That increase is way more than inflation, but the product hasn't changed and all the engineering costs were offset years ago. To me that indicates Speed Queen knows that their competitor's modern washers are garbage that doesn't last and they can get away with jacking up the price. Speed Queen knows that educated consumers don't have a choice any longer. Maytag also recognizes this and now offers a "commercial-grade" washer to try and get a piece of the dependable washer action.

No other washer on the market is worth consideration! The Speed Queen TC5 "CLASSIC-CLEAN" washer is the ONLY washer worth purchasing!
I own a TC5 is 8yrs old and rock solid
Last time I worked on a speed queen, there was a single drive belt under the cabinet. The pump was alloy, and a torque converter was used in place of a clutch. Ironically, the new plastic pumps hold up better than alloy. I like my whirlpool design2000 washer, but the build is a lot less substantial than speed queen.
The old Direct Drive Whirlpools were perhaps the best washers ever made. Reliable, affordable, relatively cheap and easy to fix. These Speed Queens are not in the same class regardless of component quality. Sure they look simple but behind the knobs there is an electronic control panel like anything else today. The Speed Queen agitators do not turn over the clothes very well and on the TR series they turn the entire drum with the agitator which is not as effective and I can't imagine it is good for longevity.
Just purchased a SQ 5003 and haven’t had any issues with the drain but I took the deal off the line that curves the drain hose and shoved the line deep into the drain stand. Only thing I don’t like or maybe just haven’t figured it out yet is running a single cycle like just the rinse if let clothes sit a few hours after washing and want to rinse without completely washing them again
You could wash them without adding detergent and then push the button to pause it but hold for 3 seconds and it will cancel it, drain etc so it's basically like a rinse.
I know my Amana NTW4516FW3 isn't a Speed Queen but I would highly recommend it. Had the machine for 9 months and it would be the best top load agitator machine for those on a budget. Washes great and spins great.

I owned one of those Amanas for five years. I just sold it with the house. It lasted without a repair. My only problem with it is the springs aren’t that good. If you overload it, it will dance around the room.
I had a amana that died on me but was about 15yo...miss that washer..I got fancy one and I've moved to one that actually washes clothes..the TC5 from Speed Queen
i purchased my speed queen tc5andi love it i had a newer mytag and it really sucked

I bought the TC5000WN on 11 May, 2019 because my LG top-loader came apart.
The SQ is a bit noisy, but my clothes are cleaner and my water bill is lower, even with the extra rinse on every load.

@@YaleAppliance1 Somewhat disappointed that the machine stopped while filling, with a flash pattern on the display indicating a problem with the pressure sensor. Long wait for part and service, even under warranty.
So I’m waiting for delivery on a TR7003WN. I’m wondering how the electric display panel will serve me, knowing simple dials on the other models won’t have that issue.
The story of Maytag is sad and can be looked up on the internet. I was born in Newton and the Maytag family is rolling in their graves for what happened to Maytag, Maytag Farms and Newton itself.

We replaced a cheap old whirlpool washer with a speed queen 4 years ago. The whirlpool lasted about 8 years. Its been a horrible experience. The washer is not nearly as good, clothes are not as clean and you have to do more loads because of the small size. After only 4 years there is a load moaning noise that sounds like a whale and it kills during the spin cycle. The warranty was only 3 years. Wish i didnt fall for the 25 year expectation. Steer clear of these things and go for a better warranty with trusted manufacturers. Something changed with these machines a few years back and I should have heeded the warning.

Maytag needs to copy more the Speed Queen TC 5000 Series Washers and also allow you to get straight hot water in the normal cycle not just the heavy duty cycle.
..yes, if Maytag was still an independent company that focused on quality, that would be the route they should take...sadly, however, they are just a subsidiary of Whirlpool now, which, itself doesn't make appliances like they used too...Maytag isn't a high-end, top quality product anymore, just cheaply made junk like 99.9% of the rest... :(
After extensive research online, watching tons of videos, even more reviews and then talking to repairmen in the field I came to the conclusion that Speed Queen is the best and most reliable washer made. I purchased the TC5003WN about 2 weeks ago and its a beast and built like a tank. Yes you do pay more, but quality comes at a price and not having to worry about buying another washer for 20-25 years is peace of mind. I read some negative reviews, but the positive reviews far out numbered the negative which says a lot. Commercial Heavy Duty says it all, do your research and you will agree Speed Queen is the washer to have.

What about the Speed Queen SF7 though? They cost nearly as much as 3-4 of the lower cost units. I almost always go with reliable but in this case it seems like it might make more sense to just get new ones if they break down. What do you think?
Not a fan of that series. Less capacity and the reliability is not as good as the others.
How about the Speed Queen Commercial grade washers like the LWN432SP115TW01? It seems like the commercial grade will last longer.
We don't sell commercial products but the residential products come off the same line as their commercial units. The only difference is they add a coin op machine to the commercial units. Commercial usually means more metal and less plastic so they "should" be a better overall product. That doesn't mean its going to last longer however. Electronic boards have a lot to say about the lifespan of a unit.
I don't understand why Speed Queen can't make a 5.2 tub?

I think it's because of all the regulations the govt has. If they have a larger tub they wouldn't be able to allow it to fill up because of the water regulations put into place and it just wouldn't wash well...and they'd like to keep their name brand going strong.
I am more Intrested in the demonstration of the top load washers. Agitation water control level manual operation. Most machines don’t let you manually stop and start. They are horrible

Does anyone know about the draining issue! I've had a problem when the water ejects seems so forceful. I asked my retailer and was told the ejector pump is not adjustable
Suggest talking to Speed Queen service if there is an issue with the water ejection.
The repair statistics are useful but I don't think they tell the whole story.
When you buy an expensive washer, especially if you choose it because of it's *durablity & easy to repair* (like a Speed Queen) you're more likely to actually have it repaired, instead of replacing it.
With a less durable machine, you don't want to spend too much on any repair because it's just a matter of time till something else will malfunction & it makes more sense to look for a new washer. But a workhorse like a Speed Queen is worth fixing. A typical residential washer (eg Whirlpool) not so much.

Had a Maytag commercial top load,in 5 yrs,spent $350. On my Speed Queen commercial top load 12 yrs old zero service out of pocket. Just a little rusty on the seams.
Exactly, when you think about it, it really makes no sense to overpay for a washer like this. The only reason I would overpay for a washer is if there was a night and day difference in performance AND a damn near guarantee that it will never break. You can buy other washers that still clean just as well so that's a non factor. All washers are built like shit nowadays, so might as well just get a cheap one that gets the job done and buy a 5 year extended warranty. That's really the only way to go IMO.
The draining issues you mentioned wouldn’t happen to be suds and foam during the final spin cycle would it? My tc5 has been doing it since day one even with brand new clothes and very very little high efficiency detergent. The final spin whips up foam like crazy and sends it out the drain hose which of course causes the standpipe to overflow because there is no water left to force the suds down the pipe. Its absurd to see such a problem and speed queen won’t assist whatsoever.
If it's sudsing then they wouldn't as they are probably chalking that up to user error. My advice would be to run your next cycle without any detergent and see if the problem corrects. If so then there was too much detergent trapped in the machine and you should be good to go.
@@YaleAppliance1 I’ve already done that multiple times, and perhaps you missed where I noted that it’s been a problem since the very first load. Then when I do a load of laundry and add just a LITTLE TINY BIT of detergent it goes back to doing this. It’s a malfunction for sure and they won’t do anything about it.
@@Matthew-ip6xl they say to put one once of white vinegar with the soap at the beginning of your wash I saw that in a video with the same problems of soap and the gentleman said that he always puts one once of white vinegar in his washer for every wash!
@@Matthew-ip6xlthey recommend doing a wash load with no soap but 2 cups of vinegar to wash out all the excess soap that's built up in the machine. Then you can use vinegar or liquid softner with your clothes and this is supposed to subside the suds.
Im a filthy landscaper but my wife works in an office. My dealer really keeps twisting my arm into a tr5. I wonder why? I feel like they dont want to sell me the more expensive tc5. Weird. I have to buy a washer dryer this week. People are so divided on the tc5/tr5 im kinda going nuts. Maybe I just flip a coin
TC5 would be better. The TR just uses the water to move the agitator

I just got my TC5 today. I like the water level and am happy with the reduced time it takes to do a load. However, my clothes aren't spun as dry as my previous washer from Maytag. Does this washer not spin clothes very dry, or am I doing something wrong? I did not overload any of the loads I did, which were about 5 so far. Thanks.
It spins well for a top load, but front loads spin faster.....I dont think you are doing anything wrong
There's a separate spin option you can spin it more if you don't feel it's adequate.
Yes, my SQ washer/dryer is 5 mos old. 1st week, the light fell out of the dryer and blew a breaker….after waiting 4/5 mos for replacement, I now see bleach stains on my washer ..inside a d outside on the porcelain…..never, never has that happened on any of my appliances….these cost a $1,000 ea 🤷♀️. WHY
I own both the Speed Queen TC5000 and TC5003. Can someone tell me the difference between the two. I believe maybe they slowed the water discharge rate on the newer TC5003. Anything else? Can anyone confirm that?
No, there are no significant changes for the 5000 to the 5003.

I can't speak on the tc model but I had the tr7 and that thing does not clean laundry. I sent that thing back after 4 loads

You can. Honestly you would get a better wash on it with a larger capacity also because this unit is tied to the motor it may be a little harder on the comforter in terms of fabric care.

@@anvl618 You can leave it open during the fill portion of the cycle to add but I am not aware of any machine you can leave the lid open for an entire cycle. I'm having trouble finding a reason why one would want to?
@@YaleAppliance1 You are right .There is no reason why anyone would want to leave the lid open for the whole cycle.I just mentioned it to emphasize that mine during the fill portion of the cycle the water is not running when the lid is open.When I close the lid it starts running and If I open it right away it stops.Should I worry that there is something wrong that has to be fixed?Thank you.
You buy these for reliability which seems good, biggest knock is they just don't clean very well compared to modern front loader
Does the Agitator work? It is not the traditional swirl design.
The TC is more like the old grinding style of agitator. It's a bit harder on clothes than the newer TR series.
What do you need wifi on a washer for what's wrong with a good old fashion buzzer? Just look at a watch know when it will be done.
@blastman8888 If you have wifi on your washer you can check the status of your wash load while you're out shopping, visiting friends, at work, etc. It comes in handy on other appliances as well. The two are very similar but the TC5 is a half horsepower 2-speed motor while the TR motor is a 1 horsepower with variable speeds (allows for a higher overall spin speed... less time in dryer).

@@poolahpotI’m willing to bet spending $5500+ on a white front-loader pair without the dazzling, stylish looks of the Korean (LG/Samsung) brands is hurting their sales. Maybe with the introduction of the new black models, some customers will float to the FF7/DF7. If I were in the market, with deeper pockets, I’d certainly choose those black versions. They are sexier with BETTER QUALITY than most other brands.
How is the TC5003WN different from the one you review?
I would like to know the answer to this as well.
The units are virtually the same except the TC5003WN comes with a 5-year warranty instead of a 3-year warranty.

Good question...certainly better parts, but really more aggressive cleaning action and a better warranty.
@Brian Howell As one of the other commenters pointed out, when a SQ washer breaks down people are more likely to have it repaired because they like their SQ and they know that it should last a long time after the repair is made. People are more likely to replace other brands of washers when they break down because other brands aren't built to last and often the cost of having it repaired is more than it would cost to replace it with a new one.
I know this slightly sarcastic sounding question is a year old but it does seem weird to give these points. Let me explain this: the Speed Queen TC5000 and TC5003 are classic big motor with metal transmissions like quality old school equipment. It's basic because it doesn't have wifi, or a myriad of fancy sounding cycles which usually add to unreliability. Most new machines start "thinking" and you can listen to them as they contemplate how much water to use, they adjust the temperature, and usually spray rinse. This old school washer fills with whatever temperature YOU pick, all the way to the top on deep fill, and starts work immediately agitating your clothes beating the sweat, blood, skidmarks, and deodorant out of your dirty clothes. It takes 30 minutes not an hour and a half. I don't need an employee (washer) who can think how to save me water or electricity, I need a piece of equipment that does what I demand of it, nothing more!!! Thank you Speed Queen for building a machine that does what it's told!!! Most reliability issues with these have been a water discharge impeller that created foam when emptying. That was on TC5000, I believe it was fixed on the TC5003. I have and love my TC5003 so much I bought another plus dryer. I will update this if anything changes. Yes, your HOT water doesn't equal my HOT water unless you own a Speed Queen. Research it.

Nope!! Bought a speed queen been having issues with it, do t like it at all!. So called heavy duty and can only wash very small loads otherwise will not spin!

DO NOT listen to all the "look at all these features it doesnt have" crap. The big bix stores are FULL of appliances that have lots of pretty lights and buttons that nobody needs or uses. This SQ washer washes as much laundry as the 4.5 cf washers BECAUSE... it fills up to 100% with the deep fill option. It uses 100% of its capacity,not 75% for so long we have let these companies tell US what we need. Buy what YOU need not what they say you need. Steam? Who needs it? I can tell you i just got rid of one of those BEAUTIFUL washers with the racecar shiny finish and pretty 'acrylic' windows to watch the load with ALL the bells and whistles, clocking in at over 4k$. Ive put up with it for 10 years, and I'm DONE. please bring back no-nonsense appliances we actually use.

Top loaders are just as filthy as a front loader...you just can't see it.
