      Do not start to knit socks. They are really hard for beginners. I recommend starting off with using large needles and chunky yarn to knit a scarf.

    I just bought this pattern. I’ve been practicing knitting for a couple months now with the goal of eventually making myself some socks and this is the first pattern I’ve come across that seems feasible to me at this stage in my journey. Thank you so much for showing this technique!

    I started knitting in January of this year, thanks to your easy baby beanie video. I've progressed through all sorts of hats, baby sweaters and I've wanted to tackle socks but found the fine yarns intimidating. Thank you for this video on a worsted weight sock, I'm so excited to give it a try in this KAL. So grateful!

    I looked over your printed pattern online and saw the gauge for the medium worsted wool. But I'm still curious about the gauge for fine sock wool. I do have a math question: how do you determine the number of stitches required, based on the circumference and length of the foot? This would be good to know in the event I would like to make children socks or socks for men who have large feet.

    Loving the sock pattern and tutorial. I love knitting socks! Thank you for a fun summer KAL. I am knitting the size small sock, my foot length is 5”. Do I measure from the toe or after the toe for the foot length? I can’t wait to learn the heel method. I know what everyone is getting in their Christmas stockings this year!!

      I'm glad you're loving it! I'm totally making everyone socks for Christmas this year too 😆 If I'm understanding correctly, you're talking about measuring the actual sock itself, right? If so, I aligned my ruler with the edge of the toe when it was laying flat. Does that answer your question?

    I knitted a pair of socks two years ago, toe up, two at a time usung medium worsted yarn. It was my first pair ever and they came out a bit large. I want perfect fitting socks every time so I am wondering if I should do a gauge. My two questions are: should the gauge swatch be in the round or flat and how many stitches should I have per inch for medium worsted yarn and for finer sock yarn?
    By the way, I love your method if teaching. You take your time and explain each step well, taking the fear out of knitting socks! :0)

    So I should use size 4 yarn with size 3 needles? The yarn I bought is a size 4 but on the label says to use a size 7 needle. Great video so far, can’t wait to start!

    • @bhookedcrochet
      @bhookedcrochet  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, make sure you follow the supplies listed in the pattern rather than the yarn label. That will give you a different gauge and make the sock sizing inaccurate 👌

    I've never made socks before but I use magic loop all the time and normally find it quite easy but I started looking at your video and I've never been so confused by the method you use. The cast on looks so awkward and I was taught to knit the stitches on the front needle first - not the back ones. Somehow the way you pull the needle through looks so difficult. I wonder if anyone new to magic loop could make it out at all. I'm sorry to sound so critical because I really appreciate anyone who posts up a helpful video and I really want to learn how to make socks - I just didn't get your method at all.

    I’m not sure if you check the messages on here or not but I have a question about the first round of stitches , on needle 2 of row one you say knit across but the stitches on needle two are twisted except for the first one. Shouldn’t we knit them from the back? And the cast on stitches for the small size 20 stitches on each needle makes them way to big for me then to do the increases also. I bought your pattern because I thought maybe I was hearing wrong on the video but it says the same. I sure hope you check the comments soon at least before your next kal which I’m looking forward too.

    Whenever I pull the needle out to put the stitches on the cord so I can knit, when I start my first stitch of the round the tension on the yarn tightens the last loop around the cord (which is MUCH thinner than the needle). This makes it kind of impossible to put the loops back on the needle after the round :(( how do I fix this??

    I want to knit a pair of socks as a present for my friend who often gets very cold feet during winter, but I don't want to ask her to measure her feet for the pattern as it will spoil the surprise. I know her shoe size (Eur: 37/UK: 4), which is on the smaller side. Should I just try knitting these in the small size and hope that they fit? Does anyone know to what shoe sizes the small, medium and large socks in the pattern correspond? I'd appreciate any advice.

    I have a question, I followed link through to pattern and did the measurements I have a large foot so do I cast on 28 stitches on each needle or 20? I only ask because the chart on the pattern says 28 but in an earlier comment you say 20 stitches for a large foot. It’s unclear to me, thanks for the great video!

    • @bhookedcrochet
      @bhookedcrochet  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you have a look at the foot "circumference/total sts each needle" chart in the pattern, you'll want to match up your foot circumference with a value in that table to get the number of stitches to cast on. For example, if your foot circumference is 9" you'll cast on 28 stitches each needle 👍

    • @davekelly5678
      @davekelly5678 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      my foot circumference I'd 9.5 and I initially casted on 16 sts per needle and increase to 28 per needle. is this correct?

  • @emilymle34
    @emilymle34 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Is this an unusual size for the circular needles. I cant seem to find them anywhere. I'm wary of ordering them on amazon since the photo they have of the needles says they're 16in and not 36in.

    • @bhookedcrochet
      @bhookedcrochet  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Any length longer than 24" will work just find for magic loop. I wouldn't get the 16" though, that won't really be enough slack and it'll be a little tough to work with.

    Doesn't magic loop normally go back needle to work front side, it's confusing going opposite direction

      Usually, but it's a little different for the toe. Once you work past it and the sock grows, you'll see me work it in the usual way.

    Hello! Thank you for the video. Do you think 3.5mm and 60 cm circular needles will be ok? or I have to have 80 cm needles?

    • @bhookedcrochet
      @bhookedcrochet  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey there! That's such a subtle difference in the needle size (3.25 mm to a 3.5mm) I'm inclined to say it will *probably* be okay. However, there's a chance the gauge will be different. With slightly larger needle, you'll probably measure more stitches per inch than the gauge but with it being so close, it's definitely worth a try if you can't get your hands on a 3.5mm needle. As far as the length goes, 60 cm will most likely work just find. The extra cord loop will be a little smaller than you see in the demo here, but you should still be able to knit with it 👍

    Can I try on acrylic yarn since I have a lot of them at home? Will it turn out into shape of a sock?

    • @bumpingrasshoe3663
      @bumpingrasshoe3663 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it should be fine, but as explained early in the video it doesnt stretch or breathe well, so i think thats the main reason people avoid it, it should still turn out as a sock, but it may not be a great sock in terms of "function"

    Why do you do Judy’s magic cast on differently than everyone else including Judy Becker (the original inventor of this method)?

      This method worked just fine for me. That’s all that really matters.

    Once you have measured your foot how do you know how many stitches to cast on?? Why isn’t this obvious, is it me??

    • @bhookedcrochet
      @bhookedcrochet  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm sure it's not just you! You'll want to look at the "finished size" section in the pattern and identify if your foot measurements are small, medium or large. When you know that you're good to go! The pattern will have the cast on numbers written like this - 12(16, 20), where 12 is small, 16 is medium and 20 is large 👍

    • @bhookedcrochet
      @bhookedcrochet  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Technically yes, but the pattern doesn't give specific instructions to knit on DPN’s like you would normally see for a sock pattern with DPN's. I decided to go with magic loop for this KAL because it's a little easier for new sock knitters but if you're already familiar knitting socks with them, go for it!

    Kinda following the pattern, kinda not though because the size isn't for an adult. Baby yarn and extra small needles seem to do the trick, just not for gauge. 🤣

    • @bhookedcrochet

      These socks are adult sizes 🙃 Definitely sounds like something is going on with the gauge!

      @@bhookedcrochet Ah, sorry, I meant my own project isn't for an adult. 😅 The pattern actually stills works, just with smaller everything. What I have for the first sock so far does look like the video. Thanks for the tutorial, it's very easy to follow. 💙
