After a few years of small trips and gaining some experience and confidence in traveling solo, I started traveling to countries with cultures vastly different to my own, fell in love with solo travel and never looked back. To be honest the WIFI in Egypt is not great anywhere, I have even spoken to people that stayed at nice hotels that said their WIFI was slow, losing connection, etc. But of the two hostels, who has the best internet? Holy Sheet, easily. It's still not the best or what you might get in Europe or other parts of the world, but it works. Dahab Hostel I usually gave up trying to use their WIFI😅 I typically buy SIM cards when I am travelling in a country so I would use my own data whenever the WIFI was spotty at Holy Sheet, but at Dahab Hostel I was on my data plan with my SIM card almost the entire time since their WIFI seemed to have a lot of issues
I will agree with you, the Holly Sheet looks best out of the two, the second one would be best if you want more privacy. And yes the chicken looked amazing :)
I'm not sure what you mean by best means of transportation, as it completely depends on how many people you are talking about and where you're going. Best means of transportation from airport? Taxi (Uber, in my opinion, because of fair prices, but the parking lot where they pick you up can be a bit hectic and you will have to look for their license plate, which is in Arabic numerals (١ one, ٢ two, ٣ three, ٤ four, ٥ five, ٦ six, ٧ seven, ٨ eight, ٩ nine, ١٠ ten. ). I prefer taking uber motorbikes around the city in Cairo, but some people are afraid of riding on the back of motorcycles in Egypt's traffic. There is also the metro (train) but it doesn't go everywhere. Buses are good for traveling to other cities, as well as trains (depending on what city, the trains may or may not go there). Flying to other cities is another option as well if you are short on time or prefer faster but more expensive travel). There are also microbuses, the cheapest option for traveling around, but that takes a lot more effort to navigate and understand, are very crowded as it is the most common means of local transportation, and you should know some Arabic if you want to do this easily. Holy Sheet Hostel is in downtown Cairo, one block away from Talaat Harb and about 10 minutes walking from Tahrir Square. I would google the hostel name if I were you so you can see it on the maps.
Oh I just saw this comment now. I have never gotten a private room at a hostel in Cairo, but I know they are quite a bit more expensive than a dorm room. Dahab Hostel in downtown Cairo (showed in this video) actually has affordable private rooms, though the facilities are quite basic. I am planning to make a new video about several hostels here in Cairo again, with updated prices and also mentioning private rooms. Thanks for watching!
I had a private room in a hostel 500m removed from the sphinx and an amazing rooftop view of the pyramids. Depending on which room and how long you stayed it was between $10 and $15 a night.
@@360ODYSY Really, a hostel by the pyramids? When was this, or what is the name of the hostel? As far as I am aware there are no hostels down near the pyramids, and I know people that work down there and also people that work in hostels so they know the industry. I am going to check and see if this hostel you stayed at still exists because I am very curious about it! It would be something I would recommend to people that want to stay by the pyramids for a night or two. Private rooms are usually not too expensive down there, at many hotels outside of the Pyramids main gate you can find a private room for $20-$25 a night, but I have never heard of any hostel down there. Curiosity spiked 😆 I do think staying in downtown is better anyway, at least for the majority of ones stay. Not only because most of the other sites (Islamic Cairo, Coptic Cairo, markets, museums) people want to see in Cairo are closer to downtown Cairo and not way out in Giza near the pyramids, but also because there are more food options and things to do in downtown, both during the day and at night. But a night or two by the pyramids is alright, the views from the rooftops where people have breakfast is always very nice.
GVentures That's a nice style. Valuable information. Do you have a tour in the Arab countries? I advise you to Tunisia is a beautiful country. How about we share a travel to this country? My greetings to you. I am from Libya, next to your welcome wherever you want.
What about the food, is there a kitchen that you can use for free at room price or it costs extra and your clothes do you wash it yourself and how? Or can you wash your clothes by some one else ?
Yes there is a kitchen (I believe I did show it in the video and said you can use it to cook food, people are doing it all the time), and yes you can use the kitchen for free when you are staying at the hostel. For laundry, you can wash it yourself if you want but it would be by hand in the sink or in the shower, if you are willing to spend a very small amount of money the hostel will wash it for you, they charge by weight and you receive it the next day (depending on the weather, as it needs to air dry).
@@Gventures while in Egypt (Hurgada), I had laundry done. I had white shirt with a really old stain. They actually got the stain out! I was completely shocked! Better and brighter than new! Not sure what they used, but it was amazing!
@DonLau Bent Ahaha that is surprising! They must use a lot of bleach or something!😂 I guess because they are used to doing laundry for massive amounts of guests and have to have things in great condition they might be using some very strong detergent
I stayed in this hostel 2 months (in a dorm) before deciding to stay and live in Cairo and finding my own apartment. But there are many options and I guess it's going to be up to your comfort/luxury level on where you decide to stay. I made an updated video recently with my top 5 favorite hostels in Cairo (shout out to Madina Hostel because they have really nice facilities), I'll leave the link: th-cam.com/video/zRG8qvqFNrc/w-d-xo.html I think it is best to book ahead of time, to be honest, because the hostels have been filling up faster than when I first arrived. I normally don't book in advance and when I first got to Egypt I just showed up at Holy Sheet and asked for a room. However these days, anytime I call one of the hostels shown in the video link I left above, they seem to be fully booked, so better to be safe than sorry.
Thanks G ✨🤩 Bow because of your TH-cam work I will travel to Cairo this week and made reservations at one of the places. Thanks a lot your videos help a lot 🥰
Hi thank you so much for your video! It's really helpful. Can I ask, are the cats in both hostels and if so are they in the rooms too? I want to stay at one of these hostels but I have terrible allergies and asthma on top, so I could end up in the hospital. I would really appreciate your reply. Thank you
Hey Cassie, no problem, and thanks so much for watching, I'm glad you found this helpful! I would recommend you to stay in Holy Sheet if you are allergic to cats, as they aren't allowed on the premises of the hostel itself, so there are just a few wandering around in the building but not inside the hostel, and definitely not allowed inside any of the rooms (private rooms or the dorms-not allowed). Dahab hostel has a lot of cats, I am pretty sure they aren't allowed in the rooms either but they might sneak in sometimes, and they hang out in the common area as well so their dander is probably all over the furniture if you wanted to hang out in the common area, so I wouldn't recommend Dahab hostel if you're really allergic to cats. Might I also suggest Heritage hostel? It's not in the video but I have stayed there as well, it's a little more expensive than the two mentioned in this video but it's also a good hostel, and no cats. Heritage Hostel (I think it might be called Heritage Hotel on some sites) is also in downtown (located right outside the Egyptian Museum and near Tahrir Square in downtown Cairo) and is only about a 5-10 minute walk from the other two hostels I mentioned in the video, so essentially in the same area.
i can't stop watching your videos, i had a project in Luxor last year, I spend 45 days at Akhenaton hotel it was very Cheap and very dirty for 6 USD per night and I see this hostel are more beautiful, dose they accept Egyptian there or only for foreigners for dorm, and if you know hostels like this in Aswan or Luxor let me know, Thanks
Unfortunately Luxor has a limited supply of hostels compared to Cairo (of course). However there are a few, you've probably heard of Bob Marley Hostel in Luxor or New Everest Hotel in Luxor. In regards to the hostels here in Cairo, I discovered since making this video that Egyptians can't stay in a dorm at Holy Sheet. Hence if you asked me now, I would recommend Dahab Hostel or Madina Hostel. Thanks for watching Karim! 😊
Lol, AWESOME! Glad my videos can be of help! Thanks Summer! ❤ I dunno if you're solo traveling or not, but if you're in Cairo for awhile and feel like linking up, hit me up! I've met a few subs now, always cool to meet people this way 😅😁
Hey Gisselle...very cool! Just curious..what month was the second hostel portion recorded in? Looks very warm outside when recorded. 😊😊 Also, are there non-coed hostel rooms also?
Haha, yes the 2nd hostel (Dahab Hostel) was filmed in an earlier month than the 1st hostel (Holy Sheet), so the weather was warmer, very observant of you! I filmed at the 2nd hostel in October, and I filmed at the first hostel in the months of November and again in December, to declare the winner. It has gotten quite a bit colder in Egypt since I first arrived in October, definitely jacket weather! As for as the dorm rooms go, yes there are female only dorms in Holy Sheet and possibly in Dahab Hostel as well, though you will have to check their website to confirm that for certain. Most hostels have mixed (coed) dorms and female-only dorms available, all over the world. I don't think I haver ever seen a male-only dorm.
@@Gventures I was in Egypt in October, so I was wondering about the weather 😉 it's below freezing here in the Midwest, USA. 😪 And so many people are sick. Always refreshing to watch your videos!💜
@DonLau Bent Oh that is awesome! I actually arrived to Egypt in October as well (been here ever since)! The weather has dropped a lot since then, but it is still nothing compared to the Midwest (I'm from MN). Where in the Midwest are you from? I do not miss the winters there lol! But I have acclimated to the temperature here, and it was really warm in October, I was hot when I first arrived! Now that it has cooled a bit I am cold😂The temperature can drop to 46F at night, but during the day it is usually around 50-55, so not bad at all😂. But there is also no heating in the buildings (or at least not in my apartment!) so I am actually quite cold now, I had to buy several pairs of pants and some hoodies and a jacket since then. But I know it's actually not cold at all. Something about the desert climate though makes it feel colder than what the temperature says it is😅 Actually a lot of people have been sick here in Cairo too, myself included. I think it is because I am constantly cold. But probably the new covid variant is spreading quickly since almost nobody wears masks? Who really knows. I just got over being quite sick with fever myself, but all good now, thankfully. Thanks so much for watching, commenting and supporting my channel! I love that you enjoy them ❤️
It's fine, usually there are plenty of young people in hostels, I met plenty of 18 and 19 year olds in hostels in Cairo. I'm always the older one in hostels 😅
Thanks so much. I have booked 5 nights in Dahab hostel (private room). Hope it's not a compromise. Watching this video I tried to cancel Dahab and book Holy Sheet. But I am late as all rooms are booked this month 🙃
Oh, Dahab Hostel is still nice! I go there often and hang out actually. I just had a slight preference to Holy Sheet because of the social aspect, but they are both good hostels and both have social environments, some of the best options in my opinion for downtown Cairo. Don't be disappointed with your booking, both are good hostels and only like 3 blocks away from each other, so same area anyway. Thanks for supporting my channel by watching, I appreciate it! 😁
@@Bb1987ty Mate there are tons of good hostels, let the man make his own decision, I wouldn't tell anyone to unbook and go to one specific place. Holy Sheet is good, Dahab is good, Heritage is good, Madina is good. Have you stayed at all of these places? I have. They are all fine
@@Bb1987ty I'm somehow doubting you have stayed all the hostels that I just mentioned. Seems very unlikely. The reason I have been to all of these places is I have friends that work there and have been living in Egypt over a year now. But you can say what you want to say. Are you also living in Egypt? If not, how long were you here for?
Well I can really only talk about Cairo since that is where I am living now, but...to be honest I don't see all that many tourists in general, not when compared to the Egyptians. There are definitely tourists here, but with a population of almost 22 million like Cairo has, the Egyptians massively outweigh any tourists visiting, so you see them, but scattered. But I mean, most of us tourists will stick out, it's just a part of being a foreigner in a foreign land. We don't look Egyptian. We don't speak their language. I stick out, I have red hair, after all. My Polish friend is tall, fair skinned and blond, she sticks out. People I've met from hostels from all over the world stick out (whether they are from Korea or Germany, France or Canada, England or Colombia), and the Egyptians can spot us. If not by our physical appearance, then by the way we dress. If not by our clothes, then by the way we move through traffic, if not by our movements, then they will hear it when we begin to speak. There's nothing wrong with that though. I've been to 6 out of 7 continents and usually stick out in the places I've been. It's just the way it is with travel sometimes 😊 By the way there are more touristic cities than Cairo, like Sharm el Sheikh, for example. It's a big resort town on the Red Sea and I personally hate it, but some people like it, and there are tons of tourists there. If I am on the Red Sea I prefer Dahab, a small hippy beach town. I'm not a hippy by any means, but the vibes and crowd are definitely a better fit for me than the resort crowd in Sharm
last year when I went to Egypt I stayed in hotels my 23 days in different places ( Cairo, Alexandria, Luxor, Aswan and Hurghada), I am not for hostels, but I am wondering if I rent an apartment, do you know how it is work? I am asking because I want to invite friends for a dinner or get togethers...( local people).
Rent an apartment? For how long? Usually the minimum time you can find an apartment for rent is AT LEAST 3 months but that is hard to find, typically 6 months to a year is the requirement. I am renting an apartment here and had to sign for a year. Not a problem since I wanted to live here anyway but if you want less time you're better off looking on Airbnb
Actually yes I visited Alexandria in October and made a few videos about it! I made a video about the catacombs, did a walking tour of a neighborhood in Alexandria and also visited the fisherman's market, which was an amazing time and honestly one of my favorite recording days for the channel! Also made a video about a fish restaurant I visited while there where you can pick out your own fish and they cook it there for you. I also visited the citadel of Quaitbay and went to the Biblioteca Alexandria, but I didn't film in the library and though I filmed at the citadel I haven't edited the video or uploaded. Maybe I should? Haha. Very beautiful city, Alexandria. Have you been?
My pleasure! I always was happy when other TH-camrs made videos about hostels in countries I was planning to visit, just so I could get a better idea of prices and conditions. Thanks for watching, and enjoy Egypt!
It is certainly a play on words, I met the owner and of course it was intentional. Lots of guests find it funny, in fact it played a part on why people chose this hostel, as I heard guests themselves saying that it was part of the reason they chose the hostel, they liked the humor.
Haha, yeah Holy Sheet Hostel is awesome and the name is very creative, I love when people play with words. Hope you can make it to Egypt soon, it's such a beautiful country!

Hostels generally have a younger crowd but there are older people on occasion. I think I can give a typical age range for people at a hostel to be from 18-25, somewhere around there. But I'm 34 and stay in them all the time, and often meet people that are around my age or a little younger (maybe 27, 30, something like that). Also sometimes older than me, though not as often. I've also met people that are 45, 50 staying in hostels, and the oldest man I've met that stayed in a hostel was 60. That was in Laos, I remember he was from Argentina and a very quirky fellow, I had some great conversations with him.
@@Gventures Thank you 🙏 I am 46 but look 35 but think the hostels wouldn’t be right for me so would probably have to do an airbnb or something as I might look odd going to a hostel now. It’s a shame but I would have done it in my younger years, God I sound like an old woman!! I hope to visit again and stay for lengths of time mainly in the winter in Europe so just trying to find the cheapest way to do this.
@@sarahwhite5621 Nah you could totally stay at a hostel! I mean do whatever is most comfortable for you, but you definitely could. I forgot to mention many hostels have private rooms and lots of "older" travelers will stay in hostels but be in the private rooms, whereas the younger ones usually stay in the dorms. I stay in dorms because I am a cheap ass 😆 and also like meeting people, but plenty of people in their late 30's to early 50's stay in private rooms and I will see them in the common room hanging out. But hostel dorms are the cheapest...😉
Ahaha, don't say that! I don't know your age but I have met 60 year old people in hostels before, it is not as common of course but it is not entirely uncommon to run into someone of that age either. 😁
@@TheJamesPopoola Ha ha, thank you! I think I will get myself an avocado smoothie. There are many juice shops here in Cairo, my favorite is called Sindbad. Thanks for watching my channel!
Yes. Actually, in many hostels in Egypt, only non-Arabs are allowed to stay in the dorms (whether they are male or female). This has to do with the laws in Egypt and hostels simply making their lives and business easier by not allowing Arab nationalities to stay in the dorms. Private rooms are okay for Arab nationalities to stay in but most hostels I have seen do not allow Arab nationalities to stay in the dorms. It sucks that it's that way, but the government and the laws here are really to blame for that situation.
There are women only dorms (dorm = sharing room) and also mixed dorms (mixed = men and women). So there are two options for dorms, male and female mixed dorms, and the other option is female only dorms
The best hostel in downtown Cairo is Tahrir Square Hostel 8 USD for a bed in a dorm with a balcony with superb views overlooking Tahrir Square . The hostels in your videos the holy sheet and Dahab hostel look kinda depressing and views from the hostel are not nice either , the dorms seem like small with not much room at all. You need to try Tahrir Square hostel it is 10 times better then those prison looking ones u are staying in .
Not sure what you are talking about, Dahab hostel has an awesome rooftop and it's not super loud with traffic like hostels near Tahrir Square. Do you work at Tahrir Square Hostel or something? This is the 2nd comment you've made now regarding that hostel 🤣Maybe you should start a TH-cam channel and make a review yourself, then you can recommend that hostel. There are tons of good hostels in downtown Cairo and I have stayed at many. Cheers, Australian, Madina Hostel (I really like, good views into Tahrir Square, nice rooftop, awesome staff) also Heritage Hostel (good views into Tahrir Square from balconies as well) and of course Dahab Hostel and Holy Sheet. I personally prefer the ones not in Tahrir Square because there is a little more action and restaurants/stores where Dahab Hostel and Holy Sheet are located, although all of these hostels are relatively close to each other. Some people also prefer the hostels a bit further from Tahrir Square because there is a bit less noise from traffic (I've heard this complaint from people staying in hostels near there). Like I said in the video, I also really enjoyed the staff at Holy Sheet, and the social aspect. I stayed there 2 months and enjoyed my time there, but there are many good options in downtown Cairo.
@@Gventures ofcourse i dont work at that hostel , i am just a traveller like yourself who loves Egypt :) dont take it the wrong way I just think Dahab and holy sheet look a bit drab but thats just my opinion

I never tell anyone what to do, just share my opinion and let them do what they will do with the information I provide. Have you ever stayed at Dahab or Holy Sheet? If you've never stayed at either and only saw them through this video, maybe don't judge a book by it's cover. Perhaps they seem a bit drab in the video but they are actually both very warm and inviting places with great staff and other fun travelers. The beds are comfortable in my opinion and the view from the balconies are nice. There's two restaurants right across the street, a liquor store half a block away, juice shops, cig shops, convenience stores, coffee shops, shopping, and a whole lot more all within a block from the hostel. It's a good location and I've never really heard complaints from people staying there, during the 2 months I stayed there.

Also of course, Molakia the soup! Actually it makes a short appearance in this hostel video! Near the end when I talk about the staff and them cooking, I show a short clip of Alex pouring the Molakia he made into a bowl :) I love Egyptian food, seriously underrated or unknown in the US and maybe many parts of the world, but so delicious!

Curiosity spiked 😆
I do think staying in downtown is better anyway, at least for the majority of ones stay.
Great video, thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
So if I wanna stay a month in Cairo.
Where is it best to book room? Website or just show up?
Nice video 🤩
I stayed in this hostel 2 months (in a dorm) before deciding to stay and live in Cairo and finding my own apartment. But there are many options and I guess it's going to be up to your comfort/luxury level on where you decide to stay. I made an updated video recently with my top 5 favorite hostels in Cairo (shout out to Madina Hostel because they have really nice facilities), I'll leave the link: th-cam.com/video/zRG8qvqFNrc/w-d-xo.html
I think it is best to book ahead of time, to be honest, because the hostels have been filling up faster than when I first arrived. I normally don't book in advance and when I first got to Egypt I just showed up at Holy Sheet and asked for a room. However these days, anytime I call one of the hostels shown in the video link I left above, they seem to be fully booked, so better to be safe than sorry.
Thanks G ✨🤩
Bow because of your TH-cam work I will travel to Cairo this week and made reservations at one of the places.
Thanks a lot your videos help a lot 🥰
@@minikdam4617 Awesome man, thanks so much, I'm always happy to help! 😎
@@Gventures Thanks so much for your reply! This is so helpful as I'm heading there in just a couple weeks. Your channel is a God send. Thanks!!
i can't stop watching your videos, i had a project in Luxor last year, I spend 45 days at Akhenaton hotel it was very Cheap and very dirty for 6 USD per night and I see this hostel are more beautiful, dose they accept Egyptian there or only for foreigners for dorm, and if you know hostels like this in Aswan or Luxor let me know, Thanks
Great video, I know where I'm staying next week. New SUb
Lol, AWESOME! Glad my videos can be of help! Thanks Summer! ❤ I dunno if you're solo traveling or not, but if you're in Cairo for awhile and feel like linking up, hit me up! I've met a few subs now, always cool to meet people this way 😅😁
I was.. to this video.. thanks 🎉
I love that you enjoy them ❤️
What about our luggage? It is safe there? Or we have separate cupboard?
I think I'm going to go with holy sheet hostel (coming sept 2024) but I'm an 18M so I hope it won't be awkard for me .-.
It's fine, usually there are plenty of young people in hostels, I met plenty of 18 and 19 year olds in hostels in Cairo. I'm always the older one in hostels 😅
@@Gventures Phew!! Appreciate your reply and can't wait to visit egypt. P.S your videos are really helpful - many thanks 😊😊

Thanks so much. I have booked 5 nights in Dahab hostel (private room). Hope it's not a compromise. Watching this video I tried to cancel Dahab and book Holy Sheet. But I am late as all rooms are booked this month 🙃
Unbook and go to tahrir square hostel it is much much better
@@Gventures yes I have stayed at them that is why i gave my opinion 😎
@@Bb1987ty I'm somehow doubting you have stayed all the hostels that I just mentioned. Seems very unlikely. The reason I have been to all of these places is I have friends that work there and have been living in Egypt over a year now. But you can say what you want to say. Are you also living in Egypt? If not, how long were you here for?
Hey… I’m from England… do you see many British girls in Egypt? I stick out like a pale sore thumb.
@@Gventures thank you..yes..I am looking for Airbnb...at least in Cairo..
@@CarlosCruz-vm3di Yeah probably your best bet
So cool will you visit Alexandria?
Thank you for this! I would be planning to travel solo . So looking for a clean, an affordable and hospitable hostel.
My pleasure! I always was happy when other TH-camrs made videos about hostels in countries I was planning to visit, just so I could get a better idea of prices and conditions. Thanks for watching, and enjoy Egypt!
Holy Sheet?!? Is that a deliberate play on words? Does the proprietor of the hotel understand how that sounds to English speakers?
It is certainly a play on words, I met the owner and of course it was intentional. Lots of guests find it funny, in fact it played a part on why people chose this hostel, as I heard guests themselves saying that it was part of the reason they chose the hostel, they liked the humor.
the name of that hostile had really made me laugh lol
Haha, yeah Holy Sheet Hostel is awesome and the name is very creative, I love when people play with words. Hope you can make it to Egypt soon, it's such a beautiful country!

Do you have to know the rest of the people you stay with?or each came separately
No I just met them there, I travel alone. Most were solo travelers but there were a few people who came in friend groups traveling together
What are the age groups? I see mainly very young but do you get any more middle aged people too? 😊
Very interesting! I wish I had taken the initiative to travel more when I was younger...now I'm just old and decrepit 🥴
Ahaha, don't say that! I don't know your age but I have met 60 year old people in hostels before, it is not as common of course but it is not entirely uncommon to run into someone of that age either. 😁

is 6 bed female dormiratory room is also for non arab nationalities ? 😢
I am staying in the one you stayed in
Haha, awesome!!! Holy Sheet is the best. Also has an awesome name 😁
Hi man and women this r sharing rooms or only for women different sharing room
There are women only dorms (dorm = sharing room) and also mixed dorms (mixed = men and women). So there are two options for dorms, male and female mixed dorms, and the other option is female only dorms
Holy sheet that's cheap!😂
🤣 Yes it is 😎
The best hostel in downtown Cairo is Tahrir Square Hostel 8 USD for a bed in a dorm with a balcony with superb views overlooking Tahrir Square .
@@Bb1987ty I think it was just you telling someone else commenting on the channel to cancel their reservation to Dahab and change it to Tahrir Hostel that had me reacting that way.
Informative, liked the hostel and the elevator.
Haha yeah, very old school. The elevator when I first saw it made me feel like I was in 1920's NYC or something
Egypt is known for great food you must have tasted Molakia and falafel
@@shortvideolive666 Oh yes, I love falafel and eat it all the time! Actually I mean to make a video about falafel as well, I know it is not the most strange street food to eat but it is so popular here and I would love to share it with others abroad that may not be aware of how popular it is in Egypt.
