Okay sorry just a couple minutes in but I feel like you need to frame your daughter's notes on knitting and put it in your craft room for the next 60 years. That is my DREAM
About half way through I realized you really irritate me BECAUSE YOU ARE ME.... Only I never tell on myself...lol! WIP ON, GIRL! WIP ON!!!! *NEW SUBSCRIBER* ❤️❤️❤️
So cool that your daughter is knitting. My daughter lives in a small town in Alberta and they are having a learn to knit night at their library. One Mom came with her 2 daughters, the youngest (6) was having trouble trying to hold the needles. The teacher was showing them English style. My daughter asked the little one to come sit beside her and showed her how she does continental, the little girl caught on right away and is doing great. Continental is much easier for left handed knitters which both my daughter and this little girl are. She’s really enjoying helping such a young one to learn to enjoy and really love knitting.
Clean needles for 2025! Love it!!! My suggestion for the neckline for Instant Crush: using a small circular needle, run through one leg of each stitch, almost as if you were picking up stitches, and knit up from there. Later you can carefully cut away excess old fabric.
Thank you for the WIP parade :) i also noticed that I tend to have too many WIPs in periods of my life when I'm feeling tired/overwhelmed - I guess we have no mental space for organizing our craft when we already have so much on our plate. Loved your color choices, especially the Kaleidoscope cardigan!
Pauline, this is SUCH a helpful reminder--you are totally right I was definitely at a place of "just too much" and I think they overwhelmed me! Feels really good to start streamlining and getting back on track. Thanks for the kind words and happy knitting!
For you Instant Crush, if you can see the loops on the previous knit stitches you could use a crochet hoof and pass each loop over the next to neaten and flatten that selvedge edge, secure the last stitch by stitching it down with a scrap of yarn. Another option would be to sew a narrow bias or twill tape over the selvedge which will prevent snags and maybe ease any potential neck irritation. You might find a spare yard in your art handler’s or conservator’s supplies.
Hi. It was nice to meet you at Rhinebeck. I was the one wearing the dress. As far as your crush sweater goes I would do a fold over collar to enclose the raw edges. Once those stitches are picked up and enclosed they will be safe for washing. All the best.
YES! I just need to stick with what I know and knit it down. And THANK YOU for saying hello, it was such a joy to meet you and I completely remember the dress! Big hugs, Lily
Hope you got your sweater done. Just thought you should know that I started a knitting podcast when I got home from Rhinebeck. I have 3 episodes. Still figuring it out.
Love your WIP parade so much. It made me so feel better about my own pile of WIPs, although I probably have more and fewer that are as close to completion as yours. Your comments about not being able to wear super warm sweaters made me laugh. I live across the Bay from you and have realized that since I don't live in Canada or Norway, I need to come to terms with my climate and knit lighter weight sweaters or sweaters without sleeves if I want to wear my knits. Love your podcast. I'm so glad that you started it!
Hi neighbor! 👋 Thank you so much for your kind words! I love sharing this craft and I will say that my 4 days in Portland I was delighted to wear 2 sweaters per day 😂 Next cold snap, we should get all the knitters together to hang out in the chill! Thanks again!
@@Lily_curatorial_knits That would be so fun (and funny). "Hey Bay Area Knitters - It's really cold out, lets celebrate by wearing our woolly knits and knitting together!" Also, sounds like I need to plan a trip to Portland.
I truly enjoyed this video! Thank you for sharing! I have a Stanley knock off tumbler that keeps my cold drinks icey, I kid you not, for 36 hrs. I need a camping mug like yours. I am adjusting to empty nest syndrome and I still feel like I've never have enjoyed a full mug of steaming coffee.....37 years and counting.....
Your daughter’s explanation of gauge is perfect! Thank you for sharing her notes - that was great. I also appreciate that you shared some positive thoughts about a frustrating experience. I’m rooting for you to finish these WIPs!
Thank you for sharing Lily! It was so lovely to watch and reminisce over the long weekend! And congratulations on passing your knitting skills along to your kiddo. Your daughter's show notes, my heart! 🥰 Appreciated your comments about the joy of creative collaboration with friends - it really is the best. Good luck on the WIPs! Your Fleur shawl is STUNNING!
We sat outside yesterday and knit together and I honestly thought my heart was going to burst--just the best! Happy early Thanksgiving and hope you're well!
Hi I love your channel and always look forward to your new videos! I wanted to make a suggestion on your coffee cup, I’m also a mom and I’ve found the ember mug! It was life changing💕
Thank you Lily for today. I love the sticks on you. So fun to see the WIPs…. The dream knitting. All of it! The low down on the NY festival is dark and dreary and not one I would bother to attend. I have listened to so many -- reviews are sad. Thank you for your honesty. Think I will stay away. Glad you had the positives and your friends. Happy Holidays! Safe travels to your brother and family. 🥰
Oh thank YOU, Cindy! I just love sharing this craft with our community and your word mean so much. Wool&Folk was a indeed rough, but NY sheep and wool was over all amazing and I do still recommend going at some point because it is so inspiring to see so many knitter IRL. Thank you again and I hope our paths cross in person some day soon!
I am watching you for the first time and this has been so much fun. I love your fleur shawl and the yarn you selected. Could you please let me know the yarn and colors. I was not able to learn enough information from the video. Looking forward to seeing more of you videos.
Hi Michelle! Yes, absolutely! I used the Grace base in the color Tadoussac and Halo in the color, Bonjour/Hi all from Sonder Yarn Co. They were a joy to knit! Thank you so much for your kind words and welcome to the commuknity!
I love your color combinations! my color pallet is the same as yours. I do wish there were pictures up in the corner of your knits so it is easier to know what you are referring to. LOVE your podcast.
Lily, you're sooo gorgeous and hilarious! I also need a support group for some of my knitting. I'm sad for your Instant Crush mishap. :( A possible option to help remedy this- why don't you knit your beautiful blue collar double and basically sew-down the inside of the collar (over top of the brown cut collar? This way the new collar sandwiches your old one, hiding it. Wishing you the best of luck because your sweater is super beautiful!
Ok, this is seriously a “how did I not think of that?!” Moment! I have some extra yarn and it means that I don’t have to futz with sewing-I’m a totally scaredy cat of anything approaching 🧵 🪡! Brilliant, you are such a star!
Love this podcast episode❤ do not matter the light or the cuts, love the caos, love the knittrain❤🎉 i see you got good advice for your sweater neck 👍 looking forward to see how you fix it 😍 have a Great november and hope you pod soon❤🎉
Could you make the stria cardigan into some sort of dress-like wearable blanket for your daughter? Or, failing that cut it and sew it - either into a small blanket, or a skirt etc for your daughter?
Spending time with you was an absolute highlight of Rhinebeck weekend Lily! Great to see you back on the 'tube❤. So many gorgeous projects and inspiration!
Hi Lily! For your Instant Crush, at this point I would try sewing down the brown to the body just so it stays secure. Hope whatever you do ends up working out!
Yes! Thank you, OK I"m going to do just that. I actually stayed up WAY too late watching a British mystery series and finished the thing last night, I have just the tiniest bit of my MC left and I think that whip stitching it down is the perfect solution! Thanks a million and appreciate your kind words and support!
Hi glad you had a good time at Rhinebeck it was my first time going and I had the best time!!what was the pattern for the vest made with the bohlayers yarn if you don’t mind me asking
I truly should have frogged earlier, I feel such a lightness about it now, like, maybe I'll make it and really love it another time . . . but for now it was the right call. I you love it keep going a couple rows at a time--you've GOT THIS! Thanks so much for the kind words!
I started out thinking, she's young ... she won't have many wips... By the time you hit 9, I was thinking, 'wow!!!! I only have a few!!!!! I feel great🎉🎉🎉🤭🤭🤭
You may have a lot of wips but they are all spectacular!!! I ordered yarn to make the Stick Season sweater. I have made two of the hats already. They fit so nice.
I CANNOT WAIT to do the hat, definitely on my list. And thank you so much for the kind comments! You will love the Stick Season Sweater--I'm actually wearing it again today as I type :)
Resisting the urge to cast on new things is my goal now as well. I have a fingering weight sweater and a fingering weight cardigan going and I want to finish them this winter and wear them at least once before it gets warm again! I have a few accessories going as well, but don't plan to cast on anything else until at least one sweater is finished. (Except the Moonstruck Knits Artus shawl for a KAL in January... by the way I'd love to see what colors you would choose if you made one! I'm sure it would be stunning). Always look forward to your episodes. 😊
You are reading my MIND about the Artus shawl, I am absolutely in love with it. Thank you so much for your kind words, and solidarity in our loving restraint of the new, for the joy of what we can finish!
Did you say your grey colorwork is Finn sheep wool? Do they grow Finn sheep there?? That's so interesting, I didn't know. :) I'm from Finland and not all wool is Finn sheep wool, but even other Finnish sheep breed's wool or mixture of different Finnish sheep's wool is special, so warm and somehow rustic&soft at the same time.
Yes! The farm yarn I used for my Sonder sweater is 100% Finn sheep wool from the stunning Boondoggle Farm in Vermont. They have the most lustrous and bouncy flock! www.boondogglefarm.com/finnsheep Thank you for your kind words and for sharing the love!
I just love your podcast and always look forward to it! Have you tried freezing your instant crush? I personally haven't tried it, but I've heard it really helps for unpicking mohair type yarns.
Hi Lily, I have been thinking about your problem collar. I like the suggestions about using ribbon. As a “triathlete” (I sew, crochet, and knit) I had first thought of using bias tape but using ribbon is prettier. Reminds me of the classic, preppy cardigans that had ribbons along the button band back in the day. But then I thought of knitting a strip in the same yarn as what you want to cover up and sewing it down over the frays? Maybe 6 stitches wide and however long? Love your knitting!
Oh wow, Amy! You are a "triple threat!" I admire your expertise so very much. Thanks for the good ideas, I am definitely going to play with the ribbon idea, but I really appreciate your thoughts on just knitting a strip! That way I can also keep it nice and soft there as well. Thank so much!
I love your version of Stick Season! Did you have trouble getting gauge with the yarn that you used? I love what the tweedy bits added to the overall look.
OK, so I got spot on gauge when I swatched, but I do think my stitches loosened up a bunch when I knit the piece, that said, I LOVE the combo of the pattern and yarn and heartily recommend them both 🤗
Not sure but couldn't you just pick up from the cut end, unwind a bit and then use that end of yarn (or a new piece) to cast off? It's knitting in the wrong direction but you wouldn't see it because it's under the new collar.
Great thought! The difficulty is that the yarn just won’t unknit! 😂 refusing to be frogged, I think I need a sewing solution! Thanks so much for the advice and good thoughts! 🤗
If the collar needs anything (I'm guessing it won't ever come apart), you might cover the join with grosgrain ribbon like on a steeked cardigan. Lots o'WIPs, but such great ones. 💙🤎💛

Hi! I'm always looking for mohair alternatives. What is 'Alpaca pure'. I can't find it on the Sandnes website. Thanks x
Ok, so it’s called “Alpaca Følgetråd” and it is lace weight. I found it at Mother Knitter-such a great resource!
You might want to rethink knitting the collar on your Felix before you can knit the button bands . Unless you want it to look different
Good call, I’m just a bit nervous at how wide it is . . . I’m also contemplating a frog on this one and trying out the Tulip instead. . .
