Hi Lily, I love your podcast, ums and all! I love that podcasters are just other knitters being brave enough to put themselves out there talking about what we love, inspiring and helping others. You be you as you’re never gonna please everyone so you might as just well enjoy doing it as you are.
Hi Lilly, thank you for another fun episode. Sorry for your negative “um” comment you received. I love a podcaster that feels like we are talking in the same room knitting away. Also love the crinkle sound😂. Your blue Lento…What if you color blocked the bottom 1/4 in the dark blue. It could look really cool. Congrats again in your marathon. Agree you can learn so much about yourself. If you get a chance. Try a race that runs over the Golden Gate. Truly awesome feeling running the trails on the other side. Once you cross the bridge. The view is truly empowering.
Oh, ABSOLUTELY! I did a 10k across the bridge while I was pregnant with my sweet gal and it is one of my favorite memories, ever. Simply stunning. Thanks so much for watching and for your super sweet note!
Great podcast. Don’t worry about the filler words. We all do that. As far as your sweater that you are playing yarn chicken with I like your idea I’d making it a cropped sweater with shorter sleeves.
@@Lily_curatorial_knits I know you have a commitment to avoiding online yarn purchases. I'm in Berkeley, and I think I have a skein of Wandering Flock that would complete your project. If you might want to buy it and pick up locally, I could go hunt it down.
You have so much good content, who is sitting around counting how many ummms you say🤔, everyone does it. Love the knits and your color choices are really good. The Azucena a is gorgeous. The goals are so fun, what a special and lovely gift.
Love the colorful Lento. I’m trying to stash down full fingering weight skeins. That would be perfect. Also love the hat. It will be on my needles soon 😊❤. Lovely podcast.
Ahh I love your yarns again! That light blue Lento would be so pretty in one colour! My option would be a straight colour block in hem with like a light grey colour or a bit darker blue or even something peachy but nothing too bright or dark. 🤔
I just found your podcast and enjoyed it very much. Thank you for just being a real human and don’t worry about the umms although I didn’t notice any anyways. My favourite part of your podcast is not just your makes but the way you share your thoughts on the creative process. The “driving at night” analogy from Anne Lamott really resonated with me also. I have a tendency to become overwhelmed and that’s a great way to approach big projects. Take care - Pamela
Hi Lilly, for your lento yarn 🐔 I would go like this: knit the sleeves first and do some striping there (I have a striped sleeve sweater on my to knit list since forever!) and then just knit the body until I run out of the light blue. Loved the podcast - as always!
You could do a low contrast colour ribbing at both the hem and the sleeves for your Lento. That way it's very subtle, but still has a little something :)
Congrats on your marathon! I realize how much time that takes to train especially with kids and a full time job! The most I have run is a 5k! Love your podcast!
Twigs has been in my cue for like the past 3 years! I've chickened out a few times but hearing you talk about it has rekindled the motivation for it. I'm also turning 40 this year! so I may just have to jump on to the twigs at 40 train.😀
Hi Lily, another great hour spent with you, thank you! Really like your knits and your thoughts. For your Lento sweater, I'm really drawn to a solution of using a slightly lighter hue of same colour as a single large colour block at the bottom of the body and smaller blocks at the bottom of the sleeves. ...or I also love the idea of an intarsia graphic using the dark blue or other colour(s), large simple daisy flower? or inspired by some art you love? It would save you using a lot if your 3 skeins and still get the length you are looking for. Looking forward to seeing whatwver your Lento outcome is, and also to your next decade of "can" and possibilities.
Good lord. People don’t have too much to worry about if that “um” is the thing they focus on. What a troll. I never even noticed the um. Just ignore the nonsense. So happy you mentioned that Sandnes garn book. I found Anna’s TH-cam bc I was looking for places to buy it. I’m obsessed with the patterns in there and plan to make quite a few this year. I’m also going to be doing the gurnsey sweater. Btw stumbling onto Anna’s TH-cam than yours made me realize I really love watching TH-cams on knitting. Instagram just wasn’t given me enough content or I was wanting more in-depth content. Great job and I really enjoy watching them.
Hi Lily! Love your podcast. For the Lento, have you considered seeing if you can find more of the same yarn - either by buying new or from someone's destash? While deciding what to do, you could stop the body for now and work on the sleeves. Once you finish the sleeves, then you could make a more informed decision on the body.
Can't wait to see how you do with the zipper, if you succeed, tips PLEASE. I have had the Zipper Man sweater by Petite Knit finished since Nov. and have yet to sew in the zipper because its been SUCH A PAIN! And of course on the video she makes it look effortless!
Lol! Yes! All the videos feel like, “here, I know how to do it and it’s very easy!” I’m over here, “easy for you!” 😂 I am loving, loving the fabric and garment, though, so feels worth it! 🤗
Such an amazing time watching another of your podcast episodes. Wow I love your past and current projects and the colors are simply amazing and great inspiration 😍🧶🌈. I really enjoy your podcast and totally understand how hard it is to filter out the filler words (the ones I use all the time are like and anyway lol). I honestly do not notice it in your podcasts though. I'm loving your Lento and I'm super excited to keep catching up on your episodes to see what you decided to do. =)
Hi Lily! You’re in great company with your ums… I’ve received similar comments on my videos - I tend to say “so, um, yeah!” a lot, lol and have received comments about it being distracting/annoying - um, sorry, I do my best! You’re great and just keep on being you!
For the Lento. What if you went right to one sleeve now see what you could get with 40grams? See if you could get 3/4 or bracelet sleeves. Then you will probably feel better about the body. If the sleeves don't wrap up with 40-50 grams for one, you will know if you need to add the navy.
I hope so too! I think I'll just super crop it and block it and worse comes to worse I'll have a trendy top for my 20 something neighbor! :) lol Thanks so much for watching and for your kind comment!

After it being in my queue for years I too have just begun swatching for a TwigI I saw the one Fraoch knits (on youtube, episodes 5 and 6) had made, and was inspired to get cracking. I'm on gauge swatch twelve hundred and ninety so far!! A twig-along is such a great idea. It's a classic pattern isn't it?
No need to fear the zipper :) Pro tip? You will feel more confident if you baste it in with long stitches before you try to do the permanent stitches. It will make you sure that you have it in the right spot, and hold the zipper steady when you do the "for real" stitches. Those few minutes basting are truly worth your time.
Oh my goodness, Ruth, you have no idea how deep my LACK of knowledge is. I'm gonna have to google "baste"! I was thinking of cooking? Is it something like basting a turkey? No joke, I am seriously that backwards on non-knitting fabrics! Yikes!
@@Lily_curatorial_knits Basting is just a temporary stitch. Believe me--it's a heck of a lot easier than learning to cast on, and you figured that out!

Thanks, love all your your choices and colour ascetic. Take care Melissa and 🎉 congratulations on running 🏃♀️ a marathon!
I have a feeling you won’t love the stripes on the Lento. perhaps cropped, as you mention, or a two-coloured version, where a cool-toned cream for the bottom third of body and sleeves.
Love the new name and the content of your podcast. I always love the colors you choose for your projects. Have you worked on any vest or slipover projects? If so, do you have any patterns that you recommend?
You might want to take a page from Cady Jax Saturday shawl…on one of her podcasts (what she knits frequently) she has some banded color ways that are stunning. . . Not stripes. A surprising color band seems like it might be your jam. Ending with a small blue band finale?
@@Lily_curatorial_knits I feel like we are watching you develop your special voice in knitting - color and color mixing. The cowls seem to foretell a new path opening up - and no telling where it will go. Exciting.
Fun podcast. Be careful of a cowl in nutiden - it is super scratchy on the most sensitive part of most peoples’ body - their neck. I knit a ton with nutiden and cannot wear it on my neck…
Great podcast, absolutely love all your knits. What pattern are you using for the cowls? You mentioned the Saturday Shrug and then went into talking cowls so are you using that pattern? I didn’t hear one UM after you mentioned it……UM away Lily.

Love your podcast, ehms and all! So sad that you had the fuzz with the name and someone comment about ehms. I personally love podcasts made by humans so sending you a hug for being a real person ❤
I love the ehms too! They are part of you, please don't change. I find highly edited podcasts much more difficult to watch, I prefer a natural edit, as it feels more companionable. What is it with these people who barge into free content and decide how you should podcast? It's the same when podcasters get told off for showing their purchases isn't it, haven't these people the ability to scroll on by?
@@jhenderson2286 I totally agree. It's so weird how people tell podcasters e.g. that a background sound was so disturbing they can't follow anymore (I didn't even notice it, this was on another podcaster's channel) or that they should or shouldn't do this and that. The only thing I find a bit dull is that many podcasters don't look at the camera but themselves on the screen, but I can relate and understand that it happens so easily and I wouldn't go commenting on that everywhere and "threat" with unfollowing.
I like your videos, but this one with all colour jazz for the cowls was awesome. Your gentle giant looks very cosy and Azucena subtlety knocked me down!😍 Thank you for sharing all your joy with us. It is nice that our community is so versatile and cool! I also have a knitting channel on TH-cam so please come and have a look! I hope you will find it also entertaining! 😊
Great podcast! ❤. The chunky half fisherman’s rip sweater is amazing!! ❤. I know you didn’t want to do the stripes in the lento but you may have to do the stripe. 🤗 nice chunky stripes won’t look bad but if you want to try it in the solid… go for it. The skies the limit 😉 and our knitting should not be limited to what’s safe. 😊
Hi there! I did not find this, but I used the Ravelry version of the pattern, which may have been updated from its first hard copy publication . . . I hope you knit it and love it!
“Umm”, “ugh”, or even moments of complete silence, who cares?Everyone needs an occasional second to think. You’re not having a true back and forth conversation, you’re not a professional public speaker and you’re providing these videos to us for free. My opinion, “umm” as much as you want. I’ll still watch. For your Lento, I bet you’ll be able to finish with what you have. If you’ve already finished the yoke and started the body by using less than 1/2 your available yarn, your golden. You might have to crop the length a bit but I’ve been in similar situations soooooo many times (low key I think I get a thrill out of playing yarn chicken) and it’s always worked out. Besides, bracelet length sleeves and slightly cropped sweaters are in. And look at it this way, when you’re done, you won’t havescraps to add to your stash.
Thank you, you're too kind! And I am usually a "better safe than sorry" yarn quantity person, but them I'm left with ALLLLLL this extra and it feels wasteful and thus the "cowl town" situation lol. Thanks so much for the great suggestion!
You are easy to watch and I don't notice an unusual amount of um's...sheesh you are not giving a TedTalk...I listened to a discussion on NPR yesterday while driving and the pundit being interviewed said "um" so often I noticed....her career involves public speaking , so a wee bit annoying , but when I watch a podcast its the vibe of hanging with friends I am enjoying...you check that box! thank you um yea have a nice day...LOL

Thank you for the lovely note! 🤗 We are all real people and it’s good to keep in mind. Appreciate you!
Thank you so much and I’ll will watch this weekend! 🤗
Vest is an option for your yarn shortage.
Good point!
Don’t worry about the ummms. You’re trying to improve so good for you!!
Ah, thank you, Liz!!! ;)
Oh thank you! What a great comment! Worth taking risks in knitting 🤗
Hei Lily! Thank you for sharing :) I appreciate your thoughts on the changes in the knitting design world and our mental power very much
Thank you, what a helpful and thoughtful comment 🤗 For the logo, it wasn’t exactly intentional, but I do seem to have a color palette 🎨
Zipper hack. Take it to a tailor. They would be expert at it.
Lori, I am seriously considering this move 🪡 🧵
Why not do a colour- blocked Lento. The bottom half could be navy, leaving enough of the light blue for the sleeves!
3/4 sleeve on Lento?
I’m planning on making a lento sweater but I’ve read that there is a problem with the raglan not lining up after the short rows. Have you found this?
Hi there! I did not find this, but I used the Ravelry version of the pattern, which may have been updated from its first hard copy publication . . . I hope you knit it and love it!
What’s your favorite yarn shop in the Bay Area? I also live in the East Bay.
We are really blessed, but I have more to explore! I want to get to Monarch someday soon!
Guess what? I started at the beginning and never noticed 'ums'🤷🏼♀️
Oh thanks so much! And that totally how I like to watch folks “from the beginning as well!”
Ummm, I think that you're, umm, fabulous just the way you are. Big Makers Love from Provence, France, G.
Oh thank you! That's so funny and so kind! Big hugs back! :)
Um, you’re fine😂
UM, I LOVE YOU! 👏
Thank you, Janis! I appreciate the supportive comment, and thanks for watching!
