Hey Alex, I bought a set from you last month and they were installed in my Derek Trucks SG this week. Oh man, awesome pickups. I'm very happy with them. Very 3D sounding, lots of overtones. With the stock pickups (57 classics) my sensation was that I could not hear the acoustic character of the guitar (which in the particular case of my guitar is very beautiful). With your pickups I feel that the acoustic qualities of the guitar are perfectly translated by the pickups and I can hear all that detail when amplified. A work of beauty and a whole new level of tone goodness. I became a fan! Cheers
I have a set of these in a used, 2012 G0 (plain top 1960 reissue sold exclusively by guitar center), with the stock A4 magnets swapped for an alnico 3 in the neck and an unoriented alnico 5 in the bridge. Killer set and this particular swap is highly recommended. Neck with alnico 3 is chimey, woody and full of overtones like a good pre-war dreadnaught, the UOA5 really wakes up the bridge pickup, making it slightly brighter, a tad more chirpy and "smokier"... pretty much Clapton's "Beano" tone through the amp I use.
Hi, I’m just curious if you get this comment I am interested to know where you purchased your magnets and what the specific charge was on the A3 for the net pick up and the unoriented A5 was it a vintage charge are you? Did you buy them just directly and throw them in. I’m just kind of curious because it seems like there’s a priority of charges or levels of charge. They are putting on independent magnets whether it be 56% of the moment or 67% so I’m just a little curious as to if you know exactly what the charge numbers were on the moment she purchased I do want to make that same change, because I have also read and heard Paris played with the magnets, but no one has actually ever given me the magnet specs. If you could give me any clue as to where to shop for those magnets out. Sincerely, appreciate it. Thank you but I love the pick up says they are but you’re right the five would give it a little more balls and clarity higher gain wise and may be a little more beef on the Logan and sustain as well as the L383 Excuse me, I’m dictating the message would certainly help that neck have a little more mid range and still carry on the same sustain. Excellent Kossoff opportunity here I mean, even though they’re not out of phase these pick ups I have enough bottom and you can dial in Fire and water which is a great song I mean so they certainly have the versatility if you could please get back to me about the magnets, I’d appreciate it. Thank you. 6:29
I just installed a set, and felt the same way. I usually use 57 classics. The Wizz pups are more articulate, and sensitive, with more highs, and deep bass. The volume control dials back distortion better. Alex talked me in to using A4 magnets. I'm glad he did.
@@GeoffSweet I'm not sure how he makes that magnet work, because I tried them in a Gibson 60 tribute and it didn't sound good, but neither did A2's in that pickup.
@@qua7771 I dunno either....I tried a handful of other "boutique" makers attempts, with different magnets...and these stood out far and away the best...they absolutely DESTROYED the stock, A3 Custombuckers...as well as other A2 and A4 PAF clones...it boggles the mind....but no other pickup...will ever grace any of my Gibsons going forward...
@@GeoffSweet Mine are in a '59 replica. The Wizz pups don't leave me wanting for anything. I put the 57 classics in an Epiphone LP that I leave out on a stand as a daily practice player. I still like the 57's but they don't have the vintage tone of the Wizz pups. The 57's do handle distortion, and do pinch harmonics well, but are no where near as articulate. The 57's can get muddy when dialing back the tone, or volume control (50's wired). I'm considering getting a set for a third guitar I have (an Orville by Gibson). I'm debating if I really need to guitars that sound alike. Thanks for the input with regards to all of the pickups you have compared them to.
No doubt, fantastic pick ups, almost 3-D tones pouring out of them. I like the idea of doing a magnet swap with these going with a on oriented a five in the bridge and rough cast a four in the neck I think is a perfect match for this wind, and would give it some excellent clarity and a little more bottom and continue to increase the bloom. Wow they sound beautiful though just the way they are without a doubt, but the truth is the sound is in your fingers to pick ups can only be so good by the way, check out the tribute series I just ordered a pair of their tribute Paul Kossoff series. They’re 350 bucks cheaper than the throwback version and more accurate spec wise, and have a better sound and don’t get me wrong I like the throwback pick up so great deal, but these words just have a way of core and honey out of your guitar. It’s amazing great playing as keep up the demos. 6:296:29
Hey have you guys been talking to my wife, she keeps telling me to not spend so much money, but I tell her its not mine, its the Banks, and so far they seem to be very happy.
Doug typically likes the lower output bridge pickups under 8k but honestly I PREFER some more balls in the bridge. The 8.4k bridge is just right. Not too hot, to the point of compressing hard but also has enough winds to thicken the bass notes. That was the thing about 50's Gibsons.... they didn't wind "bridge" and "neck" versions. They were all supposed to be the same.
@@aleksandar.vrhovec Thank You sir that is cool! I really was being humorous sir your pickups are great I was kinda playing on jonesing for them hhaaaaa!!! Now being official, I have these in my double cut and I’ll tell you what I have an ever played a better pick up and I have played some real 59‘s there certainly was not this much detail spent on the real 59 pick ups they used whatever parts they had the PAF tone as one to chase and they all have a good idea of the general town and of course Tom Doyle thinks he has the perfect recipe, but I have to argue and say after using the Kossoff tribute WHIZ and now the standard PAF Alex has the recipe down pat These bitches are banging 5:23
WIZZ are very impressive P.A.F replica pu's. i Like them and a maker named SHED makes a set called "PAF daddies" that are phenomenal sounding! Hard to go wrong with either TBH!
No such thing as Best! Just what you like in the right instrument or it won’t sound best! You got to have the right PU in the right guitar that will accept it, is what I mean. If you want a tight sound and your guitar is eq’d different(Wood wise) it may get you half way there or could be a fail. But a real good PU for the guitar rather than just for your idea of what you want may work to beautify your tone if it is transparent and can simply amplify it without stealing. Sometimes the opposite is true, like a guitar that is really clean sounding (wood), may need a bit of color and sweetness and the right PU and your personal gear may do the job. That has been my experience. Junk is junk like you said crud in crud out.
Best PAF clones ever!
What other pickups have you tried and have you ever played a 50’s Les Paul?
