bro im telling you ive been doing jkd for years now and its one of the best cause it includes punches kicks trapping and grappling thats like mostly what you need
i actually love this guy so much, i could just watch this guy happily talk about fitness for hours knowing full well im not getting off my ass. keep up the good work
Im a karate instructor and studied for just over a decade now. I loved your section on sparring! A lot if people think light or no contact kumite is a lot harder than full contact because the amount of control and situational/positional knowledge and range judgement required to do it. The adage of “punch through something” Is easy to follow, but having the control to punch and kick at speed while moving with an opponent is much more beneficial. The same goes for evading, and blocking. Stepping into full contact with that much of a cognitive advantage as a base does amazing things for your kumite.
One of the reasons light sparring is better than hard sparring is because you can get more rounds in going light. If you're going hard all the time, you're bound to get injured, requiring you to take rest and not be able to spar again. The way you get better in sparring is practice and if you're getting injured, you can't practice. So get out there and train guys :) Btw keep up the good work jax :))
Distance is underrated I run often and I used to hate running. But I soon liked it. Since I'm a big guy well above 200 pounds people don't expect me to run 5 or 6 miles and not be gassed.
BROOO this was really well done as usual!! Great WORK and So True, i've been a martial artist since I was 8 years old and sparring so many different people over the years really helped me so much as a fighter. I'm glad you mentioned how important it is and also that you can spar safely without concussing people lol, Glad Tough like the Toonz is back!
This is the video I've been waiting for! I remember watching your Rock Lee video and instantly subbing to the channel. I was diagnosed with leukemia in January and I lost alot of my muscle from not being able to be physically active. Walking up a single flight of stairs after i was released was such an eye opening moment because I literally couldn't climb them without dragging myself up each step. Im getting to a point I can finally start building myself back up while going through chemotherapy and I plan to use your videos to help. Thanks for the awesome content and great vibes brother. 🤘 can't wait for the next one!!
@@ki7966 Cho doesnt seem to know anything about source material. I don't think he was a good casting in the first place.Spike is also Jewish not Asian.
I lost 19 kilos when I started doing this routine since last year and adapted it to what I can do and added more things to it to become my own daily routine. Add to that the pandemic also turned me into a weeb. Thank you very much JaxBlade!
Started watching you senior year of high school, your videos made me realize how much I love fitness and exercise science. I'm now a college junior working on a Kinesiology degree. Also picked up boxing thanks to Ippo and your vids lmao
Just wanted to say that shadow boxing and kata are very useful. Just the repetition of it has a effect and should you ever need it you wont think. You'll just move... like water. Holy crap! My middle school PE teacher taught us to be water. Now I just need to get back to my highschool shape and Im good. Great video man.
I always love doing these tough like the toons alongside with my swim practice, and have been waiting for this Spike video for so long!! Keep up the great work!!!!
I read all his smaller self defense books ages ago. Very informative. I think they were titled Bruce Lee's fighting method, and they came in numbered volumes. Also used to do Tai Bo workouts.
(I know i’m a year late to this but) Recently I started training as a beginner in kickboxing. While i occasionally went into a muay thai class before, I never fully committed until now. Low and behold, I sprained my ankle on the first day back. While i’ve been trying to recover, using videos like yours that incorporate martial arts that you can do at home has lifted my spirits up. The effort you put into explaining each move and even taking some skills from bruce lee is dope as fuck! Just wanted to say, Thank you man.
Jax I'm a longtime fan of yours. Just wanted to encourage you in what you do! So grateful for it. I've learned a lot from you and it's helped me in a lot of ways! Keep doing you!
Bruce Lee, Cowboy Bebop, AND a Hajime No Ippo reference = GOLD. Definitely gonna do this routine..... See ya space cowboy (Old Folk Blues plays in the background)
Warm up: 3 sets of Speedbags (forwards and reverse) [60secs] Exercise: •3 sets of Isometric Push-ups (45 secs) • [15:00, i'll write this fully after i exercise]

Today was my first day trying this out and man is this a good workout. I find it amazing the amount of work that goes behind all of this. Keep up the awesome work!
At my boxing gym the coach would make people spar very rarely but every. single. day we had to run through our defense drills, with one person punching full speed and full force a predetermined combo with the other person defending with the blocks we already learned, it was pretty great because you don't get punched but you still learn distance and timing in a both offensive and defensive way (I did get punched a few times because I messed up my timing or wasn't fast enough but 3-4 hits in a month? that's not a bad ratio), it obviously wasn't the same as sparring but I always found it super beneficial.
So Bruce Lee said "Be like water." Then to reflect the word water, Tanjiro said "if you are lost, go back to basics." Guys, it helps if you need to be like water to move and be with flow. However, I am a dough. I can be fluid and also solid during the fight. What more I never got into a fight.
