Just throwing my 2 cents in, WILBERS, in my opinion and hours and hours of research, is probably the best overall suspension on the market. They are expensive, but not having to adjust the rears when going 2 up or packing for a long cross country ride is awesome!! Research them and see what ya think! Ride safe Bro and thanks for the video!!
HD SE / OHLINS RESERVOIR SHOCKS vs OHLINS HD044 RESERVOIR SHOCKS. Major difference is that SE shocks have progressive rate springs and the Ohlins HD044 have linear rate springs. The progressive rate springs are a one size fits all as HD does not want to have many different configurations to stock and sell. Progressive springs can stack up if you hit a significant bump and may buck the rear wheel. The linear rate springs give you a more customized ride set up for your weight and riding style. The good news is, Ohlins will swap the progressive rate springs for linear rate springs for about $150 for both sides. In speaking with Ohlins, they stated that there is a minor difference in the shim stack inside the shock body. They went on to say that you absolutely will not be able to tell the difference (after changing to linear rate springs), unless you are racing in the King of the Baggers racing. When I called Joey, (the spokesman that does all the videos for Ohlins), I described them as Ohlins branded SE shocks. He immediately corrected me and stated that they ARE Ohlins, not just branded. Those are the only difference between the two products.
Öhlins got over 60 years of experience and development from F1, World Superbike, Moto Gp, World Motorcross and so much more within car and motorcycle racing. You just can't compete with that knowledge. Öhlins for the win..!! 🤘🏼🔥🇸🇪🔥🤘🏼
I personally brought my SE Ohlins to Ohlins USA to have them dialed in and they swapped out the Harley springs to custom heavy duty one. They told me the only difference between the HD Ohlins and the regular shocks is the springs. They specifically said the internals are the same
Yea that’s pretty much it. I personally love my SE setup it feels great but in the future if anything happens I can always do what you did. Thanks for your feedback my friend
You said it earlier,”anything over stock is a plus.” With that said, I went with Fox RSD and I love ‘em! Mainly because of what you said, Ohlins and Legend are the two biggest players and I wanted to be different. Plus I love that they have the adjustments on the reservoir! Great video!
Over the years, I've run suspension components from Legends, RWD, Progressive, and SE/Ohlins, on both touring & softail chassis Harleys. All were a major improvement over the stock OE suspension when it came to improving ride quality and handling. My preference is RWD for both the front & rear; awesome suspension! '23 Road Glide ST here.
Awesome channel. Love Ohlins shocks, I have a set of rear on my 19 RG Special. One thing I didn’t know is the special has 12” shocks, when you upgrade to aftermarket they recommend going with the 13” to increase cornering and maneuverability. Which definitely did. One drawback to the SE/Ohlins shock is it only has 1 choice of spring which is like the stock range of 150 to 250#. So if your riding 2 up and loaded you have exceeded the shock’s capacity. You cannot adjust rebound or dampening to change that. If you buy from Ohlins you have a choice of different spring rates based on your riding style. Also most riders don’t need the remote reservoir shock, save $500 and buy the same shock with rebound , but without the reservoir. Thanks again for the content.
Ohlins will always be the best option if you have it as an option... simple as that. There is a reason that nearly EVERYBODY uses them for performance bikes.
Nice video. I read the same thing he said about the Legends leaking. I pulled the trigger and purchased Screaming Eagle Ohlins. Can't wait to install them. Cheers
I have two questions. It's 22 fltrxs. I weigh 80kg Sometimes I wear tour packs and do tandem with my wife. My wife weighs 60 kilograms. How can I adjust the suspension? You need two adjustments when you're driving alone and when you're calm. The spring is a step from when the screw is not visible.. How many steps should I release from the bottom dial and reservoir dial when it is hard locked?
So I am changing my suspension was contemplating Wilbur’s, legend, se ohlins . Everyone that changed their suspension loves what they changed to progressive, fox, super shox or the first three. I’m 99% sure I’m going for the se ohlins yes they are 1500 but I’ll install them myself so no labor cost.
My Revo A just blew out after 3 years. Just went to Ohlins and great so far. Just over 1k at Destination Daytona Biketoberfest. Will send Legends in for rebuild, hopefully free of charge and keep as spares. Lol
I run a 2019 FXFB with a SE 128 kit.I have SE Ohlins rear and want to change to SE Ohlins front. Do people think Ohlins as opposed to SE branded front springs are a better option? I abuse the crap out of all my bikes so firmer suspension is better for me.
Biggest difference between screaming eagle ohlins and ohlins is HD gives a pergressive spring where ohlins will spring to your weight and bike set up. Like you said, anything is better than stock. I wish the ST came with screaming eagle ohlins.
Very good review. Have you tried riding a HD tourer fitted with Wilbers suspension? I know this is outside the scope of this video, however, the 'self levelling' feature of the Wilbers coupled with a plush ride they provide could be a game changer for some folks, particularly if one regularly rides with a passenger.
The new ones need twin piston shock overflow, they blow out, that issue fixed now? Originals had single shock one side to absorb, the other fork gets piston to push back to road as well as absorb road bumps, it also aids to push tire back to road quicker for contact, if it hits larger bumps that make bike bounce, skip contact. Stock are toughest hands down, just hard on passengers back, if heavy packed with gear, solo, you will feed it also, Think stock springs are 10 lbs , maybe 12 for legends, online, they need an 11lbs to find easy medium.
Just got rid of my Ohlins SE. I think they are terrible IMO lol. I went with some Progressive Suspension and it feels way better than the Ohlins. Yes I had the ohlins professionally tuned and they just were not for me
@@Marvelkid87 I think they were very offset after I got them since I didnt have the fronts done yet. My fiancee just said they were not comfortable when riding 2up. So we gotta listen to the wife. But she loves the new progressive i got.
Looking at going Progressive front and back as well, between the Ohlins and them. Both look comparable to each other and both are recommended depending on the person. Personnal choice.
Honestly legends are not that great. I get to theyre an American company and they support the industry but their products can’t really compete with other aftermarket options, at least in the premium range. Legends fork carts are way too stiff and offer little to no adjustability(on the fly) , you have to disassemble and change it. The rears are okay, are they better than stock ? Duh. But when you’re spending around $1k+ you might as well get something nice. Ohlins, RWD are the two I would look into
Trash product DO NOT buy. Go with something else. I’ve gone through two sets, both of them had the cables discolor (rust) within a few months. My bike is garage kept and not left in the elements. Trust me, if you work hard for your cash, you do not want to spend it on these shocks. Oh yeah, and Harley and Ohlins told me to kick rocks…
@MarvelKid87 i wanna go stage 2 on my 2023 rg spec. Question is what is better fueling with the 472 cam or a s&s cam chest with a 475 cam?? Since u have the 465 now and had the 475 in your bikes which do u like best? Or do u think the fueling cam chest and a s&s 475 cam is the way to go?? Ive seen people doing that uts my first harley and i'd love the feedback bro!!
hey there i have a 21 ultra and i did fueling reaper 472 and i still have stock camchest and oil pump becasue i was told the 20 and up oil pump is just fine for stage 2 upgrades.. bike made 119hp and 129trw as well

IMO, Wilbers for premium set it and forget it......Ohlins equally premium for those that need or want frequent adjustability. Legends.......never.

475 is going to make a better chop sound and, the 465 I find it to be smoother than the 475. They both are packing a good amount of torque
