I love you reacting to Dan, you really have to say something to his performance. I think, quite a bit of reactors play his stuff because his fan base is so supportive. Some of them have nothing to say and it feels as they do not really listen to the song and do it for a thumbs up. Thank you for your great reactions ❤.

    What a masterpiece from Dan.
The first time I watched it, I was speechless. A metal singer sings Gethsemane and does it so brilliantly.
Sometimes I wonder if Dan knows how good he really is.
The way he sings and presents himself captivates us. You become addicted to watching and listening to him again and again.

Interesting anecdote about the master class - poor guy, but I agree completely with your point. Dan is always present, whether playing a character or singing the words to a song (really singing the words,) and whether he's moving around like a dervish or standing utterly still and inward-facing, he's always totally there. His expressiveness is so breathtaking. I hope you will have a look at The Music of the Night. Another one that would probably interest you is Son of Pain - a very emotional song mixing several styles, one a very classical tenor. The only opera singer I've seen who could sing and cry at the same time was Beverly Sills, but Dan does so in a number of songs, including this one. Thanks so much for your wonderful reactions.

I came accidentally to Dan Vasc "Gethsemane" without knowing "Jesus Christ Superstar". I had just heard Dan´s "Amazing Grace". That was the only Song I knew by him. For one moment I didn´t pay attention and autoplay brought “Gethsemane” on. I was stunned, and his Performance hit me extremely hard. I will never forget this moment.

And I just LOVES the way you explaine every bit of the song. Dan take me on a ride with his songs, and then you came in to my life and take me further on that ride with your emotions, your love for the music and your knowledge to music, preformence and voices.
I’m not good to explaine what I mean in english because I’m Norwegian and lives in Norway, but I hope you understand what I mean.
You are the rainbow over Dan’s music and together everything became so clear. I learn so mutch from you. And sometimes you even say what I have been thinking of. Like the reputation - where you said that you would have liked to see more intesity building up.
When I see that you have reacted to another Dan song - I hide just to be able to sit for my self and enjoy those minuts that goes too fast.
I can’t wait to hear your reaction to Dans Music of the night from Phantom of the opera.

Dan Vasc is so versatile in his singing that I do have difficulty listening to other artists. They are not as exciting for me. I am completely fascinated by his facial expression, his passionate displays, and versatility of voice. He also does a lot of the technical engineering knew his videos. Definitely a self-made artist that has come very far without selling out.
Dan has relayed that he will not do a song to absolute perfect because he wants to keep the passion and the energy that he feels for the song.
I have been waiting for your reaction to this song.

Thank you to the woman who requested this reaction. I really wanted to hear Dan's analysis of it. He did not fail to disappoint. Dan you look like you were just going to leave the planet or spontaneously combust and it was great . I'm Jewish and I've always wondered how this conversation with God went. I love Dan's interpretation because that's how I would have felt. I really appreciate it that you would rewind it and let us listen through it again. That really helps to maintain the flow because for me once you stop the song This is out of my head. Great reaction. I personally think you could just drop him on Broadway and he do just fine. For something light-hearted react to his cover of Bohemian rhapsody. For another performance react to music of the night, I believe that's the name, from Phantom

If you haven't listened to the original performance by Ted Neely in 1970, I would recommend it. I have mad respect for Ted's performance. I remember seeing this rock opera as a young teenager in the 70's. It was truly amazing. Dan's cover of this moment/song is on another level though. For me, he emotes so much more of the emotion and anguish I would expect to see from someone contemplating why they're having to put themselves forward to be tortured and killed. I also prefer Dan's choice to not smooth some of those transitions. The more abrupt changes feel hard like someone anguishing and going back and forth between fighting it and accepting it. The part of the song where he sings "I want to know my God, I want to know my God", may have been improved by changing the intensity, but Dan's version is holding on to how Ian performed it in the original. Although Dan's diction is much better. Ian sang, "I wanna know my God".
Thank you for the great reaction. I hope you keep the Dan reactions coming. He's an amazing artist that I could never get tired of hearing.

If this piece were pure technical singing, or formal operatic construction, your criticism is on point. That being said this is the most passionate moment of a passion play and so some of the choices Dan made are meant to convey a level of anguish rarely seen. Luke says that Jesus' sweat was drops of blood, and Dan may be more interested in the anguish than in the tone of his vibrato.

I really love this nuanced iteration of"Gesthemane." I feel so much love and understanding that Dan has for Jesus in this human moment of fear and the argument that Jesus is having with God about the necessity of hatred, torture, and death as an outcome of His ministry. I sometimes get a little tired of actors playing Jesus as too pious to be the strong character he would have had to be to be the rabbinical leader of a growing rebel faction of Judaism during the Roman occupation of Isreal. I love the combination of strength and anger, pitted against the fear, and sometimes almost childlike pleas of asking God to release him from not only death, but from the possibility of the failure of his mission that God had given him to do. This is a masterful piece of writing. The understanding of the dichotomy of feeling that Dan was able to imbue into his performance is stunning in its clarity of character. I really appreciate your understanding of the depth of Dan's acting ability as well as the stunning vocal he was able to maintain. I really feel that this was a tour de force performance. Thank you for your reaction to one of Dan's finest performances to date.

Thanks for a brilliant analysis of Dan’s performance. I came across Dan by accident while watching a review of my all time favourite singers, John Farnham. Dan is now on that same mantle with John. Both have fabulous voices and amazing stage presence. John is now in his mid 70’s and was still singing as strong (and better)as in his 20’s. If it wasn’t for being diagnosed with mouth cancer a couple of years ago, he would still be on stage. Would love you to review John singing his amazing version of the Beatles hit ‘Help’. Sung with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra! Always watch his live performances. You won’t be disappointed!!!

You want shills, do Son of Pain. There are two characters he takes up in that one, it's all a near death experience. Dan's intensity is on another level, he became Dargor.
P.s. Don't bother with criticism of those choppy, rhythmic moments in Dan's delivery, they're very useful to metal vocalists, providing emphasis on the lyrics no matter what the guitars and drums are doing. Both Eric Adams of Manowar and Noora Louhimo of Battle Beast are also very fond of that trick.

Can't wait to see if you check them out!!!!

    Back for a 2nd listen.
I used to despise this song before I heard Dan's rendition. Now I love it. He captured the "before *i* change *my* mind" just right. It makes a huge difference on whether i either accept or reject the plot of the story being shared. Wow!
(& remarkably enough, he didn't even have to emphasize it for me to get it).
Beautiful analysis of this incredible masterpiece!

An awesome review! I love how you feel the emotions along with Dan. I do too! It is so deep and powerful! The deepest emotions humans can feel are portrayed by Dan.

Danc vasc, is for me only one interpretation over played. Personal opinion. Dan has done classical and is a metalhead. Here, we are in a register where the theatricalization must bring this action of a dramatic character, alive to something, to an event. The emotional dimension comes to the fore thanks to orchestration. Dan is the winner in this absolutely perfect staging. Dan Vasc, knees down! Everything is there. An honor!!! This dramatization is fabulous! It's an explosion when you love opera and theater. This is what I liked about the Canadian “Diane Dufresnes in Belmont Park”. The goddess and the god vasc. ö my god! The interpretation!!!! Thank you Mister.

While I can appreciate your views on technique and understand your points, this is one of those songs that needs emotion rather than technical perfection. The deviation from a cookie cutter rendition allows Dan’s interpretation to be so personal and why it evokes such a visceral reaction. I was too young to have seen the original stage production of the musical, but I have watched the original movie and John Legend’s stage production. Neither of them touched my heart/soul like Dan’s version and that’s what I’m seeking most in music.

This will be an unpopular opinion, I think. Really like his vocal technique. Really like a lot of his sound. Really, really dislike his interpretation of the song. I've seen dozens of interpretations of this song and this character, some great, some not. The singing is great, but on a basic level with the character he is portraying here, I simply don't believe him. I watch this performance, it sounds good, but I'm not feeling anything and I'm not emotionally engaged at all. It seems like he's portraying intensity, not feeling it.
