Jesus Christ Super Star was originally a big musical play, then made into a movie. I saw the play before the movie was released and it had some incredible music but wasn't a Christian play. While based on the story of Jesus and his crucifixion, there will be numerous points of the story that aren't based on Biblical truth. That, in no way, takes away from Dan's unbelievable performance. He brings such passion to his performance that I find myself holding my breath as he displays the suffering of Jesus in the garden of Gethsemane. His voice, range, breath control, training and God given talent are remarkable to see. This man is incredibly gifted. I've been a huge fan since I first heard him do "Amazing Grace" that he released last Easter. There are so many layers to Dan Vasc, the artist. Grateful to have found his music.
You put my thoughts in writing. Couldn't have said it better. I'm not a fan of the musical and how it portrays Jesus especially defiant & unsure in this song which isn't scriptural. However, purely on vocal and theatrical levels, Dan did the best performance of Gethsemane that I can recall. No disrespect intended towards Neeley who played the part for so long, but this was exquisite.
Imagining an inner dialogue is neither truth nor untruth. It simply asks we imagine ourselves in his position. For that matter, for any of the characters. Which part of the musical is not "Christian"? The entire thing is a) from the point of view of Judas and, b) what part of imagination makes it non-Christian? Something which takes a fresh and very original look at an old story is to be celebrated. If it were truly irreverent the plot would be unreconizable. It has the added benefit of reaching and challenging an audience which would never be caught dead in a church.

I have struggled in the past to put words to this…I can’t theologically agree with the flawed message of some of the lyrics of the song but putting that aside, I absolutely love Dan’s performance, both vocally and the way he acts it out…but it’s more than acting. It’s like he becomes the character of what the song is portraying, and he doesn’t just do this in this song. There’s too many to name, and often it’s quite subtle…what he does with his hands or eyes (singing “stars”, he looks up, singing “you” looks directly at the camera, “I close my eyes…”and Dan actually closes his eyes.) Brilliant.
Great reaction. This song is about Jesus in the garden at Gethsemane on the night he would be arrested. Remember, in the garden, Jesus prayed to the Father, "Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me." Luke 22:42 So this is about the doubts and fear that Jesus the man suffered before his ordeal on the cross.

Not many people have such a broad spectrum, Dan has it......and we love that about him. With Dan, you can never be sure how he makes songs his own. Keep being curious...
I saw this show in London in 1971. It was written by Andrew Lloyd Webber (23 yrs old} and Tim Rice (26 yrs}. Until I discovered Dan`s passionate version, I never thought the original starring Paul Nicholas could be beaten. In those far off days it was rare to see passion in live stage performances such as this and Paul Nicholas was a one off. However, Dan comes along and blows my mind. A masterclass. I believe you had your breath taken away somewhat😀😀 Good reaction.
Dan portrayed this scene pretty much as in the movie but with more passion and incredible vocals. When Dan performs any song, he puts everything into it. Another good example is his version of Battle Hymn by Manowar. This one is full throttle and at the end he is sweating from the physicality of the performance. He very well could star on a Broadway stage, but I believe performing heavy metal is his true passion and I think we will continue to see more of that with his newest projects, which is fine by me. All of his over 200 videos have enough variety to give us enjoyment for years to come. I hope you will continue to react to more of his music and even listen to his own compositions such as the song A Tale With No End with his band Fearless. The phrase "nail me to the CROSS and break me" shatters me every time. As you say, both the dramatic intensity and the vocals are superb. I hope you will look at The Music of the Night, another theatrical scene from The Phantom of the Opera. It's perfect. More suggestions: Bring me to Life for another look at the variety of his rock/metal vocal toolkit (you'll be astonished), Loch Lomond or Scarborough Fair for folk, or any Nightwish covers - he often covers female-fronted bands, and sings both the male and female parts, as well as any backing vocals. Usually in the woman's key and octave! You seem musically knowledgeable: If you've ever been in a choir (or even if you haven't) you'll appreciate his one-man choir performance of Handel's Hallelujah Chorus, where he sings all four parts. Yes, he did this in his garage. But he put a lot of work into fixing it up for making videos. It's not like he just pulled his car out and started shooting. His older videos are just in a spare room in the house. It's pretty cool to watch the evolution of both his voice and his production techniques through his videos.
Well 💯….but what I love is that he is able to use a common area to create amazing art, much like many of the home studios do today. These Hollywood Studios and/or commercial grade recording studios charge hundreds of thousands of dollars when creative people can make it happen with far fewer resources.
I believe that this is one of Dan’s best videos! Of course, I’ve never seen a Dan Vasc video which wasn’t fantastic! Dan has an amazing voice and fantastic facial expressions too.
This is such a moving and powerful performance. It takes me a while to recover seeing and hearing and feeling Dan’s version of this. If you look at his eyes, he is totally believable as this character. This is an exceptional performance by Dan.
This is on my playlist with so many other amazing performances. He draws you into the Garden of Gethsemane to experience the conflict of Jesus' humanity and knowing what is to come. Watched and listened so many times, but when Dan hits his knees, my breath and heart crash and the tears come. Go down the "rabbit hole" of Dan's portrayals and outright fun explosive covers. It blows me away that English isn’t Dan Vasc’s first language. People watching Dan for the first time would NEVER guess that he’s from Brazil, with Brazilian Portuguese as his native language. His enunciation is absolutely PERFECT!! Just WOW!!🙌
Loved your reaction. I could never be a reactor because I get caught up in performances like this. Dan puts his own special magic on it. I saw the play when I was young. I used to have the vinyl on this. No one, I mean no one, can hold a candle to Dan's rendition.
Dan actually has many songs on his channel that might be considered Christian or Christian leaning. He even does a colab with guys from Petra! Its outstanding and you can see the pure unbridled Joy in his face as he sings about His Faith. Even though he is a superb actor...you can Feel his commitment and Love of Jesus. It oozes out of his very being.
I am right there with you at acknowledging Dan’s love for Jesus and how happy he shows in his performances when he does covers from Petra and Angra! He is such an impeccable artist of his craft! The perfection he brings to every single creation! I had only heard Number of the Beast once and couldn’t understand the lyrics because of so much screaming so I never listened to the band again. But Dan and Victor blew IT out into the stratosphere and melted 🫠our faces,(his teaser on IG and X)! And who would have expected what Dan and Garrett did with …Heart goes On… and Holy Mother of God it is beyond the stratosphere, into the new 19 galaxies that NASA has just found!! I've seen several versions of Jesus Christ Superstar - this song is supposed to replicate when Jesus prayed in the garden asking God not to send him to the cross. After hearing Dan sing this song all other versions fade in comparison - he did a phenomenal job and was very believable
Dans ability to take us to garden and watch as Jesus asks the Father to spare his fate is gut wrenching and mind blowing and soul crushing! And then accepting, with agony and sadness, anger, and what feels like grief! Dan’s magnificent portrayal and yielding breaks my heart, soul and spirit every time! Superbly portrayed! 😔🙏🏼🫶🏻😢
I would suggest that you find a copy of the full album and listen from the first to the last. The movie is also extremely powerful. There was so much flack because the story ended at the crucifixion and left out the resurrection.
You talked about Dan filming this in his garage. Actually, this particular video was filmed in a tiny room of his house, a mini studio of sorts. It wasn’t till later that he moved his filming setup to his garage where he has more room to make his videos.
I have seen and heard quite a couple of different singers performing this incredible piece of music, and for a long time I thought no one could do it like Ted Neely who touched me so deeply with his performance in the movie. But then I came across Dan's rendition and I never looked back. It is so emotional so powerful as well as painful and I still get the goosebumps whenever I watch him there, just him with his unbelievable voice putting everything of him in this performance or better in his incorporation of the role 🤩🤩🤩 And, yes, it might not be written exactly like that in the bible (which btw isn't a documentary but a religious tale book), but just imagine for a moment that he is still a human being facing a certain and very painful death, so him having doubt even for the shortest of moments is very realistic.
.. sure many have noticed Daniel doesnt need background scenes, dancers, band, or choreography in any video; He Performs with every inch of his mind, body &Soul; He comands ur total attention. I feel every emotion. This is extra special; He isnt only arguying with Father, but makes me feel as if He is talking & pleading 2me 4his life. The original musical is mocking, almost, of Jesus. Overplays Him as a deluded mere human. The musical doesn’t even include His resurrection, though some individual performances add it back in. The music requires talent to perform; I don’t deny that. Dan’s performance here is one of the best ever.

This is the story from the Bible when Jesus went to the Garden of Gethsemane after the Last Supper. This is when Jesus Bargains with God to not have to be crucified. In the Bible story he went to the Garden to pray with Peter James and John but they kept falling asleep. So he walks deeper into the garden and has his conversation with God. In many traditions this is considered the one time that Jesus showed weakness because he didn't want to go through with it.

Many theologians believe that the death was not what he dreaded but taking on the Sin of the world because he knew it meant separation from God the Father. Right up front, I never have cared for or agreed with the way the play was written...BUT...I don't, in any way, disregard the writers' sincerity. I've known the Lord all my life--literally. I also know, from experience and lots of study, that since Jesus is part of the FULL Triune God, who (in His ALL) is "The Great I Am," there is NO WAY that Jesus would have been changing His mind about the whole thing. When I formed my own (third) channel, right before Christmas 2022, I started with my Christmas card for that year, with an article that I wrote for the local newspaper where I lived at the time: Why Did God Send a BABY to Save Us? I do, though, understand that He (on Earth) walked as fully as a member of mankind (created by HIMSELF, by the way), as He did fully as an indivisible member of (part of the BEING of) The Great I AM. I do LOVE the way that Dan presents this "part" as if he were actually in the play on Broadway. I expect nothing less of him, after making my way through his entire catalog (and through all of his guest appearances on other channels) since April 9, 2023. I also know that a HUGE part of him being able to do this, is because he DOES believe in Jesus as Lord. There really is nobody on Earth (that I have ever seen or known in my 74 years, or that I can imagine) who could do this piece anywhere NEAR as well as Dan. Thank you VERY much for your excellent reaction. You guys do a tremendous job with all of the reactions I've seen so far. WONDERFUL! 😀

Dan is a performer for sure! He does this perfectly I don't care for the portrayal though as it isn't what Jesus said and did. Yes, He was afraid, I am sure. He knew what was coming. However, Dan is performing this how the play/movie went and I can't help but watch it. Jesus Christ Superstar was loosely based on Jesus, but it's not that accurate.
It seems to me, that God did have a plan B, but it appears the followers of Christ didn't heed the plea for prayer. God had no choice but to carry out plan A so that the blood thirsty pharisees could find their fake peace they were accustomed to. Just my own opinion, of course, but those religious zealots knew nothing but fear & we all know how/what God says about fear. (Afterall, He did mention it something like 365 times in the Book).

The phrase "nail me to the CROSS and break me" shatters me every time. As you say, both the dramatic intensity and the vocals are superb. I hope you will look at The Music of the Night, another theatrical scene from The Phantom of the Opera. It's perfect. More suggestions: Bring me to Life for another look at the variety of his rock/metal vocal toolkit (you'll be astonished), Loch Lomond or Scarborough Fair for folk, or any Nightwish covers - he often covers female-fronted bands, and sings both the male and female parts, as well as any backing vocals. Usually in the woman's key and octave! You seem musically knowledgeable: If you've ever been in a choir (or even if you haven't) you'll appreciate his one-man choir performance of Handel's Hallelujah Chorus, where he sings all four parts. Yes, he did this in his garage. But he put a lot of work into fixing it up for making videos. It's not like he just pulled his car out and started shooting. His older videos are just in a spare room in the house. It's pretty cool to watch the evolution of both his voice and his production techniques through his videos.
Well 💯….but what I love is that he is able to use a common area to create amazing art, much like many of the home studios do today. These Hollywood Studios and/or commercial grade recording studios charge hundreds of thousands of dollars when creative people can make it happen with far fewer resources.

This is such a moving and powerful performance. It takes me a while to recover seeing and hearing and feeling Dan’s version of this. If you look at his eyes, he is totally believable as this character. This is an exceptional performance by Dan.
This is on my playlist with so many other amazing performances. He draws you into the Garden of Gethsemane to experience the conflict of Jesus' humanity and knowing what is to come. Watched and listened so many times, but when Dan hits his knees, my breath and heart crash and the tears come. Go down the "rabbit hole" of Dan's portrayals and outright fun explosive covers. Dan actually has many songs on his channel that might be considered Christian or Christian leaning. He even does a colab with guys from Petra! Its outstanding and you can see the pure unbridled Joy in his face as he sings about His Faith. Even though he is a superb actor...you can Feel his commitment and Love of Jesus. I am right there with you at acknowledging Dan’s love for Jesus and how happy he shows in his performances when he does covers from Petra and Angra! He is such an impeccable artist of his craft! The perfection he brings to every single creation! I had only heard Number of the Beast once and couldn’t understand the lyrics because of so much screaming so I never listened to the band again. But Dan and Victor blew IT out into the stratosphere and melted 🫠our faces,(his teaser on IG and X)! And who would have expected what Dan and Garrett did with …Heart goes On… and Holy Mother of God it is beyond the stratosphere, into the new 19 galaxies that NASA has just found!! I've seen several versions of Jesus Christ Superstar - this song is supposed to replicate when Jesus prayed in the garden asking God not to send him to the cross. After hearing Dan sing this song all other versions fade in comparison - he did a phenomenal job and was very believable

Dans ability to take us to garden and watch as Jesus asks the Father to spare his fate is gut wrenching and mind blowing and soul crushing! This had more of an emotional impact on me than the movie "Passion of the Christ".
Dan does a great job of conveying emotion!
I would suggest that you find a copy of the full album and listen from the first to the last. The movie is also extremely powerful. There was so much flack because the story ended at the crucifixion and left out the resurrection.

You talked about Dan filming this in his garage. Actually, this particular video was filmed in a tiny room of his house, a mini studio of sorts. It wasn’t till later that he moved his filming setup to his garage where he has more room to make his videos.

I have seen and heard quite a couple of different singers performing this incredible piece of music, and for a long time I thought no one could do it like Ted Neely who touched me so deeply with his performance in the movie. But then I came across Dan's rendition and I never looked back. It is so emotional so powerful as well as painful and I still get the goosebumps whenever I watch him there, just him with his unbelievable voice putting everything of him in this performance or better in his incorporation of the role 🤩🤩🤩
And, yes, it might not be written exactly like that in the bible (which btw isn't a documentary but a religious tale book), but just imagine for a moment that he is still a human being facing a certain and very painful death, so him having doubt even for the shortest of moments is very realistic.

The original musical is mocking, almost, of Jesus. Overplays Him as a deluded mere human. The musical doesn’t even include His resurrection, though some individual performances add it back in. The music requires talent to perform; I don’t deny that. Dan’s performance here is one of the best ever.

This is the story from the Bible when Jesus went to the Garden of Gethsemane after the Last Supper.
This is when Jesus Bargains with God to not have to be crucified.
In the Bible story he went to the Garden to pray with Peter James and John but they kept falling asleep.
So he walks deeper into the garden and has his conversation with God.
In many traditions this is considered the one time that Jesus showed weakness because he didn't want to go through with it.

Many theologians believe that the death was not what he dreaded but taking on the Sin of the world because he knew it meant separation from God the Father. Right up front, I never have cared for or agreed with the way the play was written...BUT...I don't, in any way, disregard the writers' sincerity.
I've known the Lord all my life--literally. I also know, from experience and lots of study, that since Jesus is part of the FULL Triune God, who (in His ALL) is "The Great I Am," there is NO WAY that Jesus would have been changing His mind about the whole thing. When I formed my own (third) channel, right before Christmas 2022, I started with my Christmas card for that year, with an article that I wrote for the local newspaper where I lived at the time: Why Did God Send a BABY to Save Us?
I do, though, understand that He (on Earth) walked as fully as a member of mankind (created by HIMSELF, by the way), as He did fully as an indivisible member of (part of the BEING of) The Great I AM.
I do LOVE the way that Dan presents this "part" as if he were actually in the play on Broadway. I expect nothing less of him, after making my way through his entire catalog (and through all of his guest appearances on other channels) since April 9, 2023. I also know that a HUGE part of him being able to do this, is because he DOES believe in Jesus as Lord.
There really is nobody on Earth (that I have ever seen or known in my 74 years, or that I can imagine) who could do this piece anywhere NEAR as well as Dan.

Dan is a performer for sure! He does this perfectly I don't care for the portrayal though as it isn't what Jesus said and did. Yes, He was afraid, I am sure. He knew what was coming. However, Dan is performing this how the play/movie went and I can't help but watch it. Jesus Christ Superstar was loosely based on Jesus, but it's not that accurate.

It seems to me, that God did have a plan B, but it appears the followers of Christ didn't heed the plea for prayer. God had no choice but to carry out plan A so that the blood thirsty pharisees could find their fake peace they were accustomed to. Just my own opinion, of course, but those religious zealots knew nothing but fear & we all know how/what God says about fear. (Afterall, He did mention it something like 365 times in the Book).
