Im 52, from Romania, and in 1978 the Ceausescu's Communist regime was broadcasting this movie on TV (on bw tv sets of course). Other western series that we had: The Saint, Mannix, The Persuaders, Forsyte Saga, Onedin Line, Long hot summer, Invaders, Rich man poor man, Dallas, Cannon, Toma, Kojak, Columbo, Daktari, Flipper, Fireball XLFive, Gentle Ben, Dennis the menace, Lost in space, Planet of giants....etc etc...... RIP PETER GILMORE.
dont worry we had b&w's in oz too...well until the mid 80's....and the persuaders theme always reminded me of Hungary....the japanese stuff was big here....astro boy, prince planet, shintaro, phantom agents, starman...etc...lol....what daze.
I remember my grandfather used to watch this in the seventies when I was a little girl. I watched the series when I was 15 as they had it as a rerun on swedish tv. It´s one of my favourites.
This was from a time when they made tv programs with substance and merit. There was no need for foul language, sex or nudity to get the point across; just good acting, scripting and production standards.
This beautiful song was played at my mother's and step fathers wedding. My step father is a descendant of Fletcher Christian and he has just sadly passed away from pancreatic cancer. He has requested that this song will be played at his funeral. R.I.P John Christian Halton xxx
Last evening I have listen to this music for the first time in years, brought back to my memory from someone dear. My Mum loved this music and the movie. I remember when she used to call around the house: "The Onedin starts" and she was so delighted...such a beautiful music and movie...❤❤❤
Ah, what beautifully inspiring music. Makes me forget about the challenges of life for just a moment and just reflect upon all that is good in this world of ours.
I remeber this from my childhood. I never saw one chapter cause I always fell asleep during this beautiful theme. And today I use this theme when I put my children to sleep ..
In my boyhood, it was not the show that grabbed me so much as this beautiful soaring theme. Those big ships were Australia's lifeline out of Britain, and vice versa. We adore tall ships down here. Sydney Harbour is still home to many of them.
Took me ages to remember one this brilliant show, I was only a young teen but loved it. I love the romantic music, it's beautiful. Why on earth has this never been repeated in tv since !! One of the best Sunday night programmes I remember watching with my Mum and Dad .
My parents let me stay up a bit later to watch this wonderful programme, and savour the magnificent music. I had a big crush on Anne Stallybrass, too. ❤
The MERE idea of using that Adagio from Spartacus theme for the Onedin Line plus giving the audiences a customized, fuller lush Hollywood-like orchestration deserves already an Oscar. The TV orchestration is even better than the original. It was the spineshiverer of our childhoods. Gooooorgeous!!
Wonderful series and oh the eternal theme tune. For those that have never seen it I highly recommend you do. The lovely Peter Gilmore and all the characters make this a must see. I was 21 when it first aired on BBC1 and now look back on it with very fond memories.
Magnificent music - when I was a kid, this was my favourite theme music on TV, followed by Robinson Crusoe - and, I'm surprised to find myself saying -The Andy Williams show (With Mr William singing the beautiful 'Moon River'). Amazing how effortlessly music takes you back to other places and times. What a delicious feeling!
Thank you for the greetings! My other favorit from this time is DERRICK! My parent's generation was hungry for the freedom, more than other things in their life ever! We wanted this feeling for us, and wish every nations in 80's! I was 16 at this time, and I tryed to understand what happening! It was a sentimental moment of the XX.century's history! I'm was very happy about this gift for the german people!
In the early 1970s my parents took me to Yugoslavia on holiday. We met some peasants up in the mountains who spoke decent English. Dad asked how they learnt it. Their reply? By watching the onedin line. Bizarre!!!
I heard this tonight on classic fm and recognised the theme immediately then Calin Rang I saw your. Comment. It is 4 years old but it touched me. You may never read this but I hope you are well!!
Série vue dans les années 90 ...que j'adorais parce qu'elle me faisait rêver. La BBC à toujours produit de vraies merveilles! Péter Gilmore était parfait....
I recall the single of this ..on Decca BBC records, sabre dance was on the b side .. I haven't got it anymore. So it's great to be able to hear it here ..thanks for the upload 🌹
Same here. Beautiful and exciting show it was. So interesting that across the "iron curtain", in Hungary, I was looking forward to watching the continuing adventures of James and his trusty Baines...
What a magnificent program, not to mention score. When I saw those high masts, rough seas and other challenges, it made me glad that I was watching the program and not living that life. But it was fun to dream.
This reminds me of the summers of my yought. Pure nostalgia. It feels like life was easier. It probably was not but without computers and cell phones people still took the time to talk. Yes, it was nicer.
Me I was young too. Watched this program together with my parents and little sister. Didn't care all that much about either the show or the music. Now I realize both are awesome.
I loved this programme as a boy growing up near clydebank Scotland and the ship's sailing on the clyde it's so nice and peaceful music I can smell the salt air
I spent most of the 2nd half of 1985 in hospital ( result of a huge car accident) and started watching this every morning at 10 am ( I got hooked on it ) even after I was released home to finish my recovery for the next 18 months watched it most mornings 5 days aweek
Epic and transcendent, there is movement, life and experience in this magnificent musical composition of ARAM KACHATURIAN. As for the ONEDIN family, we go on an adventure. Life is a constant struggle and challenge.
Hi guys, The boat used for the Onedin line was my great great grandfather's. It's been in my family for over four generations now. After using it for the Onedin line it was returned to the family without the dome glass that protected it. Years of sitting on a shelf with no TLC left the boat a little rundown and in need of repair. In 2003 that's exactly what it got. The boat now sits in a two and a half foot long tank, made of glass and wood. It has new sails and new paint. (Black & Red)
Emocionante volver a ver estas imágenes y esta música después de 20 años ... casi la olvidé hasta que por pura casualidad la volví a escuchar esta melodía en la era de hielo 2
My God...I was so young and this song, these images will remain in my soul until my last day on this planet.
Me too!
Yes, you've expressed my own emotion exactly.
Me too! :)
Absolutely nothing to equal them these days. Vandervalk, Hawaii 5 O. We were rich.
Same!
Me and my beloved mum Sunday nights 1972 -78 I’m 56 now life stops for no one
Yes, me too.....memories of my mum loving this tune so much, watching the programme avidly....
God bless, you, mum xxx😢
This song was played at my grandad's funeral today (16.03.2020) and It'll alwys remind me of him, rest easy grandad.
A perfect song to be remembered by
God bless him, what a wonderful choice of music x
Sorry to hear about your Grandad. I am glad this brings memories of what your Grandad would have loved.
Fair winds
May he rest in peace!
Beautiful beautiful tune.....reminds me of me Dad.....he loved this programme, the sea and he built boats. He's long gone now....I miss him forever 💗
Yeah, me too. Dad was in the merchant navy for 10 years and loved this show. Gone now since 2016 but will always miss him.
Grew up with this. My dads favourite will play it at my dads funeral on the 8th of Aug 2021.
Just reminds me of a late 70’s Sunday night, songs of praise then onedin line, only 3 channels to choose from
This is the first time I’ve heard this in 30 years, lovely memories of life when I first saw it and people were still here.
I was 14 when the Onedian was being filmed on Exeter Quay. Watched it with my Mum. She loved this music. Listening to it now brings her back.
Lovely

I was not even born then (1971). I will be born in 9 years:)

You can imagine the wind filling the sails listening to this music. I loved this series.
My words it is not enough..I am just looking back at my childhood❤❤❤
Superb serialul, era bucuria zilei de duminica,o incintare ca si alte seriale de atunci!
I remember my grandfather used to watch this in the seventies when I was a little girl. I watched the series when I was 15 as they had it as a rerun on swedish tv. It´s one of my favourites.

That must have been why it was shit then.

I remember loving it. I was a teenager when it was on the television.

Absolutely!

Aram was an Armenian/world genius. Thank you so much for your brilliance.
Coming to Talking Pictures TV in September!
