22.08.2021 Hello everyone, I have just noticed some awful comments from a few people, that I have now removed. I appreciate ALL the lovely comments that have been shared since I uploaded this. IF you are one that likes nothing better to do than upset people, pause, think about what your action will result to & kindly do us ALL a favour & do it somewhere else please
This beautiful song instantly takes me back to my childhood and Sunday teatimes, I’m 51 now and wish I could go back to those days, makes me fill up every time

@@uniauther13 57 here and absolutely right. omg those erstwhile innocent times were just perfect for us kids. not saying life was in the world of Enid Blyton perfect as bad shit still went on but wow, look at todays kids.. mobiles painted faces lashes, no hide n seek and all those wonderful games we played. everyone wants to be grown up, indoctrinated by tv and the Kardashians et al. I thank fuck I'm not a kid now . my eyes well up. when I think of running across fields thru woods playing innocent war games. keep the faith people and never forget how bloody lucky we were. x
Same here. It brings tears to my eyes. This theme with Black
Beauty galloping freely can never be beaten and never will. 70's TV was special, wish we could have it back sometime.
Share your sentiment completely. Such seemingly carefree times looking back on them now. If only there were a portal back to them. The theme tune still retains its magic after all this time.
Bath, Howard’s Way, That’s Life, bed. :)
Still get goosebumps almost 50yrs after watching this as a young lad. Was one of the highlights of the week for me. Beautiful tune
This has to be one of the finest pieces of music ever to grace a TV series. I can see my mum now with tears rolling down her face. A great reminder of when weekend TV was something to relish. Not a trashy reality show in sight
A reality show is only as bad as its producers.
JESUS CHRIST will come very soon!

I played this in my brass band-a very British tradition
When I was a child I loved this programme ,every Sunday night I would watch and very often cried. Would love to revisit those days, I lived for horses. The theme tune is beautiful.😊😢😊
I'm 51 now and life did seem happier and much more simple than today. This wonderful tune reminds me of a Sunday tea time - great memories indeed !

Much better times indeed. I'm 81½ and am constantly reminded how the world as we know it is being destroyed by technology and attitudes. Turn on one's TV today and it won't be too long before you're bombarded with frightful sensationalism featuring self-obsessed morons on programmes like Naked Attraction( grown adults bollock- naked on national TV groveling for dates!) and The Sex Clinic (again grown adults on National TV exposing us all to their rancid STD's and egos out of control!!)
I believe this is what such things as FaceBook has created, monstrous creatures who believe everything about them and their lives is interesting to everyone else. Including their diseased sexual organs!!
🎩
Haha same here in New Zealand !
Same, at my grandparents. Ham salad I always remember. Now I wanna cry a little, lol !
52 me
Same here... Watched it during tea time... . While I was a kid... 😍 sweet memories...
Those booming kettle drums and the brass are just awesome. A fantastic piece of music that takes so many back to a childhood that existed in so much simpler times.
The world is falling apart.
This theme tune came in to my head for some reason and just had to YT it; Can confirm, I did tear up a little. I really don't know why, but deffo memories of Swap Shop, Tiswas, Banana Splits, The Red Hand Gang et al - all the innocence of childhood, all came flooding back. Now surrounded by death and misery. Nevermind - Happy New Year folks :-)

Many years this tune has been removed from youtube!! And now its back😁. The strength is the combi of music AND the images for me.
Thanx!🥰

@@Brian-zl8qj That is nice hear 😃. 🙋♂️
For 15 years of my early life, I basically spent every spare moment drawing horses because of that music and the imagery of black beauty running to the theme. I’m in my 50’s now and now can draw excellently. In art collage I was picked as the best life sketcher in my year of 90 students. My aptitude for muscle and bone structure is all thanks to this fine BBC program. I’m happy to pay my TV licence for all the great memories and even skills there programs ave given me.🥰
That's amazing ❤@@thebee8415

This Soundtrack takes me back to 1973 when I watched the Black Beauty Series on Tele, I am now 56 years old. I just searched TH-cam for this and played it for my 6 year old daughter. She insisted I post a comment. Thanks for sharing. Great Theme Music.
Oh those Sundays. They'll never come back. Absolutely wonderful - the music, the stories, the acting. Just wonderful.
Omg this always makes me tear up even now 😢 at the age of 47 . I loved this program as a child .
It manages to be both melancholy and heroic; it evokes a world that is rich and full of adventure for the taking, but inspite of that there's a sadness running through it all. Which is what life is really.
maybe that's why so many of the comments include tears
Very well said, an excellent description.

It's so heroic! I feel so emboldened! I love you 😍 ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Tears in my eyes..such a beautiful memory of my childhood♡

The days of children's programming when even the quality of the theme tune tells you it's a quality production.
so many wonderful theme tunes - why are they all so awful now??
What an amazing theme tune. It just sends me back to Sunday afternoons as a child in the way that only TV themes can. This is probably the most iconic theme tune in a era full of them.
This is one tune I could happily listen to on a loop forever, it makes me cry with happiness & joy at all those wonderful memories of a long ago childhood. It sends me right back to Sunday evenings, when I was around 8 & I was besotted with Black Beauty. It's making the hairs on the back of my neck stand up as I type. Thank you for posting, & making an old gal very happy. And Black Beauty, you still rock!! :-)
Isn't it just such a wonderful theme, I adore horses and I dreamt of getting one, sadly not to be. But the tune fills me with happiness and sadness for a time long lost.
Narcissisticnobody Thank you I agree, Black Beauty died of a broken heart when Jenny (Stacy Dorning) left to go to New Zealand in the FIRST 1990 Series, try finding that, it will make you cry that I KNOW.
Narcissisticnobody Well said Narciccictienobody #bringbackthe80sand90's
Narcissisticnobody Well said, it had the same effect on me too! There's nothing quite like the memories of your childhood to stir up all those feelings again.
My thoughts exactly. Makes me nostalgic and a little sad...melancholy. Times gone by that we'll never experience again. 😳
I just adore this theme tune. It always brings a tear to my eye as it takes me back to my childhood years on a Sunday afternoon. My Mum and Dad were both still alive and doing parent things as I sat in front of the TV. I lived near to where it was filmed at the time but of course never got the chance to be taken there.
What a shame you never went there, God Bless you.
This has given me goose bumps. I loved this show with a passion. Sunday tea time, crumpets and jam.I'm now 53 and still love it. ❤
The most profoundly stirring piece of music that moves my soul to tears when I hear it. Sunday afternoons in rainy Newfoundland we were transported to paradise on the back of this beautiful black horse.

My sister and I loved horses when we were children so we loved watching this! The theme tune is awesome!
God Bless you, thank you for commenting.
I'm knocking on 50 years old now, I remember this as a lad back in the late 70's early 80's (I was probably watching repeats of it then). I like to think the horse in the credits is really happy and enjoyed the shoot, it looks like it did. I wish I could have stayed as a child in the 70's/80's, life is much simpler when you are young, and those were more simpler basic times than we live in now.
I'm 56 and I'd go back to those days if I could.
Love this tune, I miss the 70sand80s. These times are awful,! So many diseases, and being 54 years old.looking at black beauty and that lovely tune by Denis king, certainly brings so much nostalgia..
I think we all would jump at the chance to go back, I feel really sad thinking about the future for my kids, I just wish they knew the times we all grew up in, such great times.
There were four horses involved but the one thta did the credits and the riding and driving was an American Trotter

I remember this music and show from my childhood. Pure and innocent days in the 70s. I think of my dad who was alive then and where we used to live. Sunday evenings and the days of ATV. I just get all mushy when I hear this. Thank you for posting.
Mushy is the coolest word of the 70s/80s...!!!!! Love it
This takes me back to my childhood. I’m now 54, but just hearing this tune transports me back to the 70s. It feels like a much simpler time back then. Love it!

My wife plays this every time she comes on TH-cam to play some music. She always cries to it as she is a very emotional lady and a very beautiful one with it. Sometimes we even cry together as the music seems to evoke in us some warmth and magic from our childhood, to a time we both hold immensely precious. If you are reading this darling, don't cry, my arms are forever around you, and my lips will forever kiss away your tears. You are the best wife a man could ever wish for and I'm so glad we found each other all those years ago. Love you Angel.

Those emphatic beats on the kettle drum, the free running of that magnificent horse, and the stirring melody: it doesn't get any better than this as far as intros go. So civilised and inspiring. Black Beauty played an integral part in the opening up of my childhood intelligence and ethical world view. A beautiful programme. ❤

I was glued to this every Sunday l didn’t even need reminding what day it was on! That music and that beautiful horse galloping through the water made my day, I adored horses and had an auntie at that time with a horse she wouldn’t let me anywhere near. I was heartbroken as a kid just wanting to be near them. When I was 18 I did a YTS scheme at Foxes Riding School on the Wirral and became a fairly decent flat rider getting to ride 4 times a week! My dream had finally come true but certainly inspired by this TV series…..

So many of the UK produced programmes have tremendous theme music.
I can only reflect what most others say, it was sunday afternoon and early morning summer holidays nostalgia.
I remember 1971 and the coal strikes ,no electricity for four of the days of the week, the snow for three months and reading by candlelight. All that seems easier than life today.
We British know how to do decent music!!

We are the same age.... my sister lives in New Zealand, Swanson near Auckland, glad this also brought back childhood memories for you too x.
Reading the comments here about how many other people "blubbed" when they heard this (myself included) makes me think there is something in the music itself. It had the same effect on me as "Bright Eyes" (Watership Down) which had me running out of the room every time it was on Top of the Pops to avoid me being teased by my brother.
I can really relate to what you said ..I think when I heard bright eyes as a child it was the first time I'd felt sadness ..I probably didn't even know what the feeling was ...but it was so powerful. I think some music is just very emotive and can really move you. Even if I hear that piece of music now it sends a wave of nostalgia and almost heartbreak right through me. Watership down is such a classic! Sorry for the long message ..what you wrote struck a chord!
So true. Amazing how music can move us.
Isn't it incredible how a piece of music can make you feel so emotional? ❤❤❤

Thankyou Mr King for creating this epic. Was very much the theme tune of my early childhood in the 1970s and fully appreciated by me to this day. Thankyou!
I adore this tune. Coming from a gypsy family, this always reminds me of my old grandad who used to gallop (ok, maybe trot!) home on a horse to his caravan in the UK in the mid 70's. I'm 53 and he passed years ago of course. But this tune grabs me by the throat, spins me around and gives goosebumps like I've never had. And the banging of those symbols/drums.... so powerful, it's wow!. So much orchestral work must have gone into putting this together. Thanks Lance for sharing.
This brings back so many good memories, one in particular of my best friend and I galloping around the school playground on our pretend black beauties back in the late 80s. I absolutely loved this programme x
