    Beyond words! I wish I could be more articulate to express how tbk touched my soul when I first read it. Since then emerged in me this love to humanity and the desire to fight this mental war that we all face inside.
    And now this adaptation has added this touch of passion, intensity but also delicacy. I don't think any other production can reach the level of spiritual connection.

    This masterful dramatization makes me want to read the book again. Not having seen the full three-part treatment, I am struck immediately by the inspired casting -- the old Fyodor Karamazov is a superb realization of the old rascal of the novel, and he delivers his lines with utter conviction. Ivan is overly intellectual; Dmitry is a bull; Ivan is innocent. And Smeryakov, Smerdyakov is a perfect snake.

    I just finished watching War and Peace. That is a very different world compared to the one depicted in "The brothers Karamazov". And that difference, in my view, reflects the changes in Russian society. By the time the latter was published, Alexander II had ascended the throne, abolished serfdom in Russia, and reorganized the judicial system, opening the courts to public audiences and, separately, granting greater freedom to the press. All of which were reflected in "The brothers Karamazov".

    In our current, modern era of 20-21 century, in which our civilisation is enjoying the highest of standards of education available in the history of human kind, and almost to everyone in the world.. despite of that fact, our civilisation is declining in almost all of the human qualities, physically and psychologically.. classic literature is the best of witnesses to that fact..

    After reading Notes From Underground, I see more clearly Katerina’s infatuation with Dmitri. She is in ‘love’ because she was insulted, so she needs to get back at him, to subjugate or tyrannise Dmitri so she is the more dominant, the nobler one.
    Good film series, just that foreigners would probably look more at the subtitles than watch the actual picture.

Unfortunately they don’t convey all the richness , depth and elegance of the thoughts and dialogues, please make an effort to learn Russian , that’s the only way to enjoy fully pieces of Russian literature and art, all your efforts will be rewarding. It is one of the great questions of life. "If God does not exist, is everything permitted?". If yes, why and if not, why?

    • @OLEG-gt2yt
      @OLEG-gt2yt 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      Raskolnikov has already answered this question. He could not live normally after the murder of the pawnbroker, although theoretically no worries about this after the crime was not supposed. And this means that there is a God, because there is an inexorable conscience that eats us from the inside, and leads to repentance.

    • @ryleighloughty3307

    • @xelix5358
      @xelix5358 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@OLEG-gt2yt Well, Dostoyevsky is playing with loaded dice (his belief in god and the cult of suffering). Unlike fictional Raskolnikov, many real people commit crimes and unbelievable atrocities and never repent or suffer pangs of conscience, nor feel empathy with another human being. Others will come to repent, and many others will never commit crimes in their lives regardless of presence or absence of belief in higher powers. The question itself as constructed by Dostoyevsky (and everyone who believes in god) is loaded - it already assumes an answer that morality cannot exist without god as its source and it's only due to god that man can know good and evil.

      @xelix5358 Except that you made several assumptions in your comment with nothing to back it up.... There are several examples of legal stuff done in certain countries that will torment the people concerned for years... Yet it is legal. You also assume that conscience comes from believing when it is independent. Why do non-believers care so much about this topic? if they don't believe they should not care at all. Also, why do reprssive regimes and/or reprssive people go after religion first most of the time... In the end, you need to admit or that's not honest, you can't prove anything more than a believer so you are simply wasting your time.^^ Being an agnostic is more honest. A material person without a spirit of some kind is nothing better than an inanimate object. (^^no need to use the sci 'nce has proven this or that when it can't figure out cncer after 90 years of non stop intense research and scnce can still not understand half of what Tesla figured out with magnetic fields and energy etc.) How do you know that Gd doesn't just refer to the intelligence of the universe that is far greater than human understanding?
